Happy Birthday Kareneh.

I forgot to mention this the other day. But when I was at Walgreens I heard WITHOUT YOU by Clay...and then I heard the next song on the CD...and the next heee. They were playing the entire CD!

Oooh how do people survive without health insurance. I had to quit paying my cobra and it's the first time in my life I've been uninsured. I went to pick up my prescription and she looked at me with a straight face and said $149. That was for 1 medication -- 50 pills. I think I choked on my spit. heee. I ended up signing up for their little prescription plan and that lowered it to 38.00. But damn! And here's the rub, nobody will give me health insurance. I tried to purchase some but of my pre-existing conditions they basically told me to go to hell. The good news is that my little part time turned full time life saving gig is now offering me health insurance and it's half as much as COBRA. HALLELUJAH!

Oh my goodness!! Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. It was a pretty low key affair. I made pizza. John made me a cup of tea, for which I had to wait an hour. Apparently, we are going out to dinner on the weekend. I actually got exactly what I wished for this year....sunshine! Three weeks of solid overcast skies (with drizzle) and night time darkness by 4:15 was getting a little wearing. But today was sunny and I think there was still a little glimmer of daylight at 4:20.

I like the sound of "Clay Aiken's new CD" without even hearing a note.....

Okay, I`m going to make a concerted effort to find that blog of mine tomorrow. I sure hope I bookmarked it. :)

Clay Aiken Song Echos ‘Music Within’

Vietnam veteran Richard Pimentel heard the “music within” and played a pivotal role in passing the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act. The movie of his life reflects Clay’s philosophy to “use your voice“ ... “As Long As We’re Here."

The new Carolina On My Mind blog features the parallels between the "Music Within" movie, Clay's "use your voice" mantra, Aspiegirl's montage of ALAWH, and AmazingCA's graphic below:

CouchTomato, awesome news that your parttime went full-time just in time! :04:

Thnx to all who leave comments in the Internet Clay blogs. This helps them compete more favorably on a Google page filled with all kinds of swamp creatures. :)

Have a super week, all! :snoopy:

In answer to your question.....not well. I had the same experience the other day, in the same amount ($140 actually). Unfortunately, there was no such solution for me. I love Canadian healthcare. Or not.

Re the COBRA...which I'm assuming is a health plan? :) :04: :04:

Sorry to have been so invisible the last while....literally...but I still can't remain logged in. I'm here many days...but I'm invisible as one of the "guests".

My part time job has turned into a 40-45 hr a week "part time", as we lost a keyholder and....it's Christmas in retail! I'm feeling very, very old most weeks. :)

Just a reminder:

BTW........has everyone voted on Chase Community Giving?

Simple to do....

1. "Become a Fan" up at the top of the page

2. Click on "Go to application" at the top right...."allow" the application to access your information.

3. Search and vote for the Bubel Aiken Foundation (not the National Inclusion Project, in this case)

You get ONE vote only per charity during this voting period prior to Dec. 11th. PLEASE do not dilute your vote for BAF by voting your other 19 votes (you are given 20 to start).

No dollars to spend....just your voting fingers...what are you waiting for?

Also please don't forget.....

Let's ALL Deck the Halls for Inclusion!

The National Inclusion Project will receive $9 per item for individual orders and $13 per item for bulk orders (8 wreaths shipped to a single address). Bulk orders also save the purchaser $5 per wreath on purchase price.

Purchases must be made from the Project's exclusive Rockdale store in order for the National Inclusion Project to receive funds: http://inclusion.rockdalewreaths.com

Buyer may designate any participating Beta Alpha chapter to receive credit for purchases by including the chapter name in the comment space provided on the order page.

Deadline for online orders is Monday, November 23, 2009. Prices include shipping & handling and the buyer may also select a preferred shipping date.

Please help by purchasing a wreath-or two-or even ten- this holiday season. Share the gift of inclusion. Inclusion works, and it is a gift worth giving.

NB For our Canadian participants in Deck the Halls for Inclusion: we have a separate store set up at Rockdale, in order to facilitate the different shipping.

The link is: http://www.rockdalewreaths.com/shopdisplay...amp;cat=Wreaths

I'm going out on a bit of a limb posting the above link.....sometimes it will work, and sometimes not, depending on your browser. If you do not see the National Inclusion Project come up in the .gif header, PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS LINK.....PM me and I will provide it.

This applies to the Canadian link only

Sorry for all the confusion with our shipping! It was more than Rockdale thought to work it out, but they have been most helpful.

YAY!!!! :04:

Couchie... :yeahthat: That's probably a nice chunk of change. :snoopy:

FromClaygary... COBRA is what you get offered by your old employers after you leave a job. You can use it for 18 months (at least when I used it, it was 18 months) and it is pretty danged expensive. Your employer has to offer the same coverage, but you pay a huge price for the privilege.

Kareneh... I would love to read something on your blog again. I hope you can find it! Congrats on the sunshine... could you send some rain our way, please? This drought Southern California is enduring has been going on way too long! (Like a certain song in a certain play that used to be on Broadway... LOL)

COBRA premiums are whatever the actual premium for your health insurance at work was - your portion PLUS your employer's contribution - PLUS 2% for handling.

Usually the sticker shock is appalling, and just at the time when you can least afford it!

New York State has a lot of problems, but one thing we do have is state-sponsored health insurance for those who can't afford it. As long as you work one day a year, you can join a plan which is about half of most COBRAs. There is a sliding scale based on income and if you have too much, you can't join. It's great for the self-employed or unemployed.

It was created to target working folks who don't have insurance. We also have a prescription plan for seniors that really helps in making medications affordable.

I would like to clarify something concerning the health care system in Canada. First the system was set up to provide basic health care for everybody. So that for instance if you are having a baby, all of the medical costs are covered. The same goes for a broken leg, a triple bypass etc., all necessary hospital stays are covered. My mother, who lives in Ontario, just spent 6 weeks in acute care in a hospital after a stroke. It cost her and our family nothing except for the annual premium she must pay which is less than $500.00. If she had wanted a private room she would have had to pay for that. Because she is a senior her drug costs are covered except for the pharmacists dispensing fee.

We don't have to worry that the provincial government won't cover the costs because of some "pre-existing condition".

I am fortunate in that I have Blue Cross coverage through my pension plan which covers 80% of my drug costs. I would definitely not be able to enjoy some of the extras which give me pleasure in my life if I had to pay the whole shot. And I am fortunate because pharmaceutical companies have been allowed to charge such high prices for drugs and as I understand it those prices are even higher in the U.S.

Our system is not perfect by any standard but no one goes bankrupt because of medical costs. No one is shackled to their job for fear that leaving would mean the loss of their insurance. You may have to wait for an appointment with a specialist for that hip replacement and then wait more, having to deal with the pain and discomfort, before the operation is scheduled but you will get the hip replacement and what it costs is just the annual medical premium if you happen to live in one of the 3 only provinces which charge such premiums. And yes you will have to pay for this through taxes, just as we pay for police and fire departments, for the maintenance of roads, the building of hospitals and schools.

Okay I've got that out of my system. Thank you for allowing discussion of topics not related to Clay.
