I and 3 of my friends here in Tucson are going to the Pala show. Wish I could do more but it's way to costly with airfair, hotel and shuttle. Wish he would come to Phoenix, but thats not gonna happen. Tour3.gif

I'll be at Pala and LA. Maybe Indio, depending on how things work out.

Ah look at this little sad California thread. These concerts are so far away but I'm so excited. It's just hard for me to start planning so soon.

For Indio people -- as you know as soon as the casino learned that Clay Aiken fans were willing to pay to play, they trippled the price of their hotel rooms. So I'm staying down the road at the Holiday Inn Express for $76. Anybody on a budget might want to consider that.

OK so I know that a few of us will be going to portions of these 4 concerts and we may or may not have certain plans with different boards and other Clay fans in various cities... but...

I would love it if we could get all together before the Pala show. Temecula is about 15 miles from Pala and has a winery row. My favorite almond champagne comes from a winery called Willson Creek

We could meet there around noon or 1, enjoy the grounds, do a bit of wine tasting. I'll look into getting a tour -- normally they are open for tours on Mon-Thursday and our concert day is a Friday. However, I may be able to work out something with them or we could tour one of the others on the row. We can also picnic there for lunch on the grounds. I will provide lunch (nothing fancy...sandwiches/salads/drinks/desserts) and we can leave in plenty of time to get to Pala for the concert or even earlier for those that want to gamble before the show.

More details as we get closer.

Muski, Ansa and CG...

do we have any rental car experts around here? I think we can try to work this so we'll only need one car. There's five of us ... Emmasage from the CH will be with us.

the first night - Muski and CG I don't know what you have planned... another option, although I haven't asked yet but don't foresee any problems cuz they love me...is that we all stay at my brother's... then we can do the winery and make it to Pala..my SIL and brother are going to PALA... - the other option is for us to drop you off wherever you are staying in San Diego after the show and come pick you up in the morning... that's ok too...

then of course we'll all go to LA. In LA, Muski and CG you can have the car because I know you're probably have plans with your other friends and Ansa and I can hang with Emmasage. Her husband is coming and renting a car for the day. Then of course we'll all go to Indio...

Getting everybody to the proper airports will be challenging. Emmasage is not going to Indio.

Thoughts?

my SIL and brother are going to PALA...

Do they need tickets? I still have my extra tickets - unless muski got rid of them and didn't tell me!

I see no reason we can't make one car work. It just seems ridiculous to have 2 cars when we're going to all the same places! As far as getting to the airport after Indio - what airport are you all flying from? I will probably fly from Ontario, although I could fly from Palm Springs but its more money. I did promise a friend who would be flying back with me I would get her to the airport, but if we have had 5 people before we should be able to fit her in if we're all going to Ontario. I think the only flight I can get (re: the only one where I don't have to change planes twice....) leaves at 2-ish so as long as I get there in time for that its fine. I guess we just need to find out what airport everyone is flying from after Indio.

As for San Diego - last I heard we might be staying at the Marriott that is right near the venue so if we do that we would be in walking distance, so if you could pick us up in the morning that would work. But I'm easy so check with muski.

LA - I think that is where muski's friends are coming, right? Again, I'm easy and I am sure we can work it all out. Talk to muski and see what's up. I have hotel reservations, but that doesn't mean I know where we're staying!

I can start to look at rental car prices for a pick-up in San Diego and I guess a drop off in Ontario? If anyone is flying from Palm Springs its not that far from Indio so I am sure we can work it all out. But maybe before I do, couchie, ansa, muski - where do you think you will fly from? What size car do you think we need??

Only thing - the car cannot be in my name unless we want to buy their insurance. Right now because of my impending unemployment and since the lease on my car was up. I am driving my father's car so I have no insurance in my name. If we're buying the insurance anyway, it can be in my name.

I'll start looking at rates to get an idea.

ETA:

Ok, I checked quickly and found the best rates seem to be with Dollar Rent-a-Car. The best rate for a 5 passenger vehicle, pick-up San Diego, drop off Ontario, is for a minivan is an estimated total, including taxes and drop charge is $217.97, which is pretty good. The gas will probably cost is more than the car! The next cheapest 5-passenger vehicle was a standard size SUV like a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The estimated total rate for that, with the same inclusions, is $295.31.

I'll poke around and see if I can come up with anything cheaper. I have reserved both of these in muski's name because I don't know anyone elses last name! We can always change the name on the reservation (or cancel them) but I want to confirm the rates so they wouldn't change on us.

I always get the best deals naming my own price at Priceline for rental cars.

I think my friends are planning on renting a car at the Burbank airport Sat and then getting themselves wherever they need to be.

I'm easy. CG---We still have two tix to sell for Pala...I know when I had dinner with Gibby and Reiki4Clay last week in Denver, they were thinking they might try to go there; not sure they'd want our tix or not. I told them we had them.

As for hotel in San Diego---I still have the reservation at the Marriott, although don't we have another option that's cheaper in the works?

I'm all for the winery thingy on Friday...

I haven't made my return plane reservations from Indio yet...need to talk with the family re family vacation that's happening around that time..

If we decide what kind of rental makes sense, I'd be willing to do the Priceline bidding thing.

Muski you can be in charge of the car... Priceline is still around? Who knew! hee. Doing some preliminary looksies it looks like between the 5 of us it should be quite affordable. I think some rental places charge more if you drop off the car at a different location from where you picked it up.

We need something for 5. And I don't mean 5 size 3's k? Since emmasage is leaving after Los Angeles, we'll have room for your peson CG from Indio to the airport.

Ansa and I can leave out of Ontario..they have lots of flights going to the Bay Area.

Did no one see my car info???

I thought they were good prices.. But what the hell do I know. Maybe I just have a different sense of what constitutes a good price.

Priceline? Fine - until they screw you and you have no one to turn to for help! (I hate outfits like that because they are part of the reason I will soon be out of a job and if you ever do have a problem with them you are screwed)

Or maybe I am just being ignored. That's ok too.

Whatever.

I'll show up and as long as Clay does too I'm fine.
