American Idol 7

More Idol "scandal" and this year it's the unlikeliest of candidates -- David Hernandez. Appears he may have been a stripper -- a lap dancer -- in a male strip club for three years. If they kicked off Frenchie for pictures ... can they keep David? Actually, I thought he had one of the best voices this year. If he goes, the pickings are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Everytime I hear this refrain "the best year ever" I have to laugh. I think it may be one of, if not THE worst ever. In my opinion, they are a sad lot -- and people I know who have watched Idol every single year like a religious practice, just aren't feeling it this year.

Sorry, old news - this has been on IDF since last month. One blogger stated last week that he has the same job as...... Yup, compare specioal ed to stripping. Some people are stupid. Well, attitudes like that kept me from bringing it here.

Sooooo, anyone watching?

SO far Luke sand wake me up before you go go - now taht is a silly song. Will voters take him seriously?

David A next, sang something in paradaise - Simon depimped him gently, as predicted by a lot of people. I thought it was OK, didn't float my boat, no show offness, simple song started at the piano and then walked away. He sang well, but I may have missed the challenge in the song. Simon also predicted he would be in the final 2, so I guess we all know what that means.

They showed Denise Richards in the audience, her reality show will probably run on Fox.

Danny Noreaga sang - didn't impress me much, sort of odd moves. OK, Randy and Paula like him - Oh, Simon.....He thought it ws horrible, aboslutely useless, hated the arrangement, the performance , the vocal...... OOOOOOHHH he fell for the Ryan dig and talked back.

Danny Hernandez next. Very good, but too theatrical for Idol, unless you are among the chosen, and we now know he is not.

Time for the Aussie - singing Come see about me? Something is missing - First note was good, went downhill in life for mer - something is falt, lifeless. Oh goodness, he had to stiop and scream a not - I guess that makes him an authentic rocker. They don't bother with singing.

Picked up a little on the don't you forget about me, picked it up a lot in the end when the song was louder - but it is like he is singing the whoos the ways that real rockers do, not like he is feeling the song.

Dave cook had guitar problems, needed to switch people around, hence Aussie out before his time.

How do I keep losing parts of this post? David Cook sang "Hello" kind of rock like, but had to scream in the middle because isn't that what real rockers do - off key a lot. judges love it want him back next week.

Jason Castro. Hallelueah - I don't think I know this song. Sort of folky with a folksy voice. Not many notes I see, but what do I know. Keeps it low because he knows he does not have a big voice, sings well softly. Randy liked it - Paula has good drugs tonight, she congratulates all guys on being good(goooodd drugssss), and Simon thinks it was brilliant. Jason is happy!!!

Chickezie next - she fills me up - changed it up - he did good, until the end, blew the end joke. Randy and Paula like it, imon decides it is not good because whitney sang it. Claims it is caberet.

Oh I liked it for an hour's TV. Very entertaining if you like musical shows. But no fever, no chills, nothing like that. But I enjoyed it. Some originality--I'm all for that whether it works completely or not. I thought Chikezie's arrangement was daring even if he didn't pull it off 100%. It was good enough to be entertaining instead of cringeworthy. Likewise David Cook. He pulled it off to the point that I enjoyed it. I wouldn't want to buy it, I don't think, because I prefer longer, full and polished versions to these shortie performances (unless its Clay).

Later. Not getting that oh my god I've got to hear it again feeling. But I'd like to see all of the contestants continue to improve--if that happens, I'll keep watching.

I thought they kicked frenchie off because her pictures were on a site that also had kiddie porn. I don't think somebody would kicked off for working in a strip club or doing lap dances. People might not vote for him for that reason though.

Luke's gotta go. His thin, whiney voice irritates the hell outta me...and WTF? "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go?"

I was surprised that the judges (especially Simon) gave Jason props....I LOVE this guy, although I don't think he can or should win. He's just so danged cute and as I've said at least three times already, he reminds me of my college poet boyfriend who wrote the most amazing love poetry and had a similar demeanor that Jason does. Sigh. I LOVE that song--Hallelujah, but mostly know about k.d.lang's version. I'd KILL to hear how Clay would interpret and perform it. :Thud:

Just not turned on otherwise. David A. sang sweetly but didn't rouse any real emotions from me this week.

I thought Chekezie (sp?) did a good job....sounded pretty soulful.

Michael Johns just bores me. I really don't think he has much of a range. David the guitar player has better vocals, IMO, and I actually liked the arrangement he used, but what's with all the guys having the goat vibrato like Daughtry!!!!!? I'm not a fan of that in anybody.

Danny Noriega CMSU! Entertaining as hell...I'm surprised Simon wasn't more blatant in his comments, actually. I think this kid has cojones and hope he lasts for a while in the competition just for the entertainment value!

The guy who's running from his stripper past :cryingwlaughter: can go anytime...just nothing appealing about him. Nothing special.

I'm with you guys with the 'not feelin' it' car. Even the guys with decent voices and performances---nothing is special. Nothing really memorable or that reaches into me and grabs me like Clay's voice does.

But I'm like jmh re: it being an hour's tv entertainment. My daughters and I like to sit around and react and make comments and have fun with it.

I have to say, though...that at a couple of points I was thinking about how, even with all the added enhancements the contestants now enjoy---live band and backup singers, choice to include own instruments, being able to sing longer snippets, etc.---nobody has reached me, affected me like Clay did five years ago singing alone on stage to a recorded track and corny visuals on a screen behind him. Imagine what he might have done with a live band!

I like Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah, as well as k.d. Lang's, but would definitely like to hear Clay sing it someday.

Da Girls -

I missed the first one - teaches me to clean up after dinner.

Asia'h got judges praise! - wonder what it was like.

kady, sucks. I can't see any of the praise that she is getting, Although I disagree with what Simon is saying. No Sijmon, she should be in trouble.

Eh the dog wanted out, I missed Carly. They never show her husband and his tattooed face/

Eh, I am tired of this show, I am going to go watch wife swap.

All I know is that after watching AI Rewind every weekend I believe that at least five of the finalists in 2003 were better than anything Season 7 has had to offer. I don't see an "idol" in this bunch.

The highlight to me tonight was Brooke. And I somewhat liked the girl who sang the Journey song, Kristy, although she started off with a bang and lost me at the end. The others were forgettable. The Irish singer? Meh. Maybe I cast a doubtful ear to her because the judging is overblown and ridiculous in her case. That girl is not going to set the world on fire.

The rocker chick's performances are annoying me. But then I never thought Joan Jett was particularly "authentic" either.

The judging is a bit freaky this season. Some of the strangest comments I've ever heard. Paula is cracked. Randy is even more boring and repetitive than ever, Simon seems pissed at all times. I find it odd that Simon is fixated on stage presence and personality. He loved Carrie Underwood, didn't he?

keepingfaith....I'm with you on the judges' comments. Very bizarre. I swear Paula needs a serious intervention. Simon all but clamped a hand over her mouth and dragged her off stage more than once.

Randy's warped---don't know what he's hearing that elicits some of his appraisals.

All I could think of when Amanda was singing was "I've heard this before." All of her singing sounds the same. Nothing special. And certainly no hint of any versatility.

Brooke---we'll see. Yeah, she's definitely got the Carol King/Carly Simon vibe down well. Wonder what else she can do?

Are they still voting off two girls and two guys? If so, I vote for Kady to go and then I don't care. I think Carly will be the final girl anyway....the judges have spoken! (And although I think she has a fine, strong voice and she KILLED on Heart's "Crazy on You"...I thought last night she was yelling and not quite nailing the high notes---'pitchy', in other words---or Randy's words.

gag me.

Well, the show started here - Blake Lewis to sing first - The song sounded like it could have been pretty if someone didn't beat box it up - how exactly does that improve a breaking up song?

So sad, they are getting rid of 4.

WHo is in the top 12 - David Cook is in.

Oh, now they are goingto check to see if David Archeltta is in the top 12 - what do we think???? Well, surprise he is in.

Brook White is in

Syeesha - judges believe she goes through - and she does.

Kady Malloy - gets the boot. and deservedly so.

First time in a looooooong time a true moment in AI...I was touched by that last hug...

If I were sentimental, I'd vote for Chekeezie...

unhappily for him, I'm not that sentimental.

I am glad Danny went home. I did not like his voice or his attitude. The girls side I wish Amanda would of gone. To me she can only sign in one style, and not different then most lead singers in a bar.

video released? what video? Who's in it?

I didn't watch until about 8:40 or so....was happy to see Kady gone but I definitely wanted Kristy Cook to go instead of Asia'h...But the tall, busty all-American blonde went through instead. She doesn't have half the talent of Asia'h, IMO...too bad.

The right call re: Luke and Danny...I actually enjoyed Danny's personality and thought he'd be a fun addition to the top 20, but vocally he wasn't as good as the others, I don't think. Chikeze seems like a nice guy and I like his voice just fine.

Ho hum.

I missed Blake and ain't missing anything. I never saw the sexy or talented or special about this guy---just.don't.get.it.

I'm still grinning about Hannah's newest compliment about Clay. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

For the love of God I didn't think that David Archuleta was going to make it through that song. The judges were overly generous in their remarks, even when Simon said it was a mess. There's forgetting lyrics, and then there's basically forgetting the whole song and trying to hang on to the back-ups for dear life, and so obviously. Just sad sad sad. If he was anybody else but Little David, he'd be headed home.

But he's saved this week by Kristy Lee Cook with an atrocious, unlistenable version of Eight Days a Week as a country song. That arrangement was a serious sin. And she sang it horribly, with no sense of rhythm whatsoever. I don't think such a dark deed can go unpunished. Seriously that may have been the all time worst performance on the show.

Right in there with the bottom feeders was David Hernandez. I just wanted him to STOP!!! That whole thing was maniacally awful for no good reason. Simon said it looked desperate. It did. Get the hook! Even Paula didn't like it. Talk about butchering a great song!

The ones that were good though, were very, very good. I loved Michael Johns singing Across The Universe. I loved the tone and emotion of his voice - and the connection (because I felt it). The Jai Guru Deva part was blissful. However, my favorite performance of the night was probably David Cook's Eleanor Rigby and I want to hear that again. He got right to the heart of that song and did a today version. He was hea-vey. Now I can't forget Chikezie, who tore it up and set fire to it tonight. She's A Woman was a blast. He wasn't always right on key, but it didn't matter, there was a party going on. Brooke did an affectionate and moving version of Let It Be. At first I thought this could be a groaner, but the girl can sing and she has stage presence. I tend to be liking her a little more every week. However, the tears could get old fast, so I think she should try to keep it together. One big teardrop was okay for being overwhelmed by the experience, but let's not push it. Although I haven't gotten in the Carly groove heretofore, she delivered with Come Together. I give her an official stamp of approval. She did the song proud.

The also-rans: Ramiele and Syesha, I can't remember what they sang. I guess that's probably not good. Jason Castro was sweet but too weak on If I Fell. He's cute, but not cute enough to go very far with that thin voice. Amanda was Amanda on You Can't Do That. It was not so hot in spite of the fact that I really, really liked that song when I was 16 ... or maybe because of it. She should have reworked the chord change for "everybody's green, 'cause I'm the one who won your love." Her beer joint voice didn't fit the tame and dated lyrics of the song -- "if I catch you talking to that boy again, I'm going to put you down and leave you flat." Could you imagine her belting out a gravelly and torrid version of I Want To Hold Your Hand? Maybe that's why she slurred the lyrics, but whatever, it did not work.

All in all, I enjoyed the show tonight. I was entertained.

keepingfaith, I could pretty much WORD your whole post. I would only differ in:

1. Brooke---although I think she's doing fine, I also think she's almost a clone of Carly Simon without anything new to make her own versions unique...getting sorta tired of her, even though I LIKE her.

2. I thought Carly ROCKED on Heart's "Crazy on You"--even more than she did tonight, although I liked her song tonight, too.

I actually thought Michael Johns had his best performance yet. And I haven't been a big fan to date.

And I agree with you, too, that this group does have some very good talent. It was an entertaining group.

Gee, I am not sorry for missing last night - guess I am just a clay slave.

OK, the group sing -I really hate how contestants do one line here, another line there - can't anyone sing a paragraph? Or how about just singing together?

So far, I understand why people are in the bottom 3.

As to the people reported doing the best - Carly sang a song that her band performs regulary so she should have been good at it. Singing a song you knew was sdvice passed on by Clay to Canadian Idols and by Ruben in Rewind and it works.

Dave Cook performed an arrange made popular by a band and he band claims they have a copywrite onthat arrangement, but he did a daughtry and took credit for it when they said he made it his own - actually, he made it some other band's. Hee

David A screwed up because he did not sing this song on Star Search, Guess he never sings Beatles.

Katharine can certainly sing, but this performance is why i am sooo happy Clay is not working with David Foster - DF is too in love with the over wrought. I could have domne without the yodeling.
