  1. K'andre and Scarlett, sounds like you are having a terrific time...wondering what "exhibitionistic tendancies" is all about...can't wait to find out. I love Clay interviews. Really when you think about how lucky we are with our choice of boyfriend. Yeah, he sings great, but he is so much more. Even his interviews are immensely entertaining. In addition to the ones mentioned (and maybe I missed this) I loved his latest one with Good Day LA. He seemed to absolutely charm them and bring out the best in them as well. I love the interchange when Jillian (?) had her work time duration incorrect and Steve teased her about it and you can hear Clay teasing her off camera suggesting that she cuts out at 9 AM (I think the show goes to 10). Really one of my favorite TV interviews. Just might have to go see that one again. I did enjoy his hosting gig on Regis and Kelly after the opening bit- he seemed to be trying too hard and Kelly was just plain irritating but he settled in beautifully. You know, I didn't even notice that he put his hand over her mouth! Not sure how I missed it because when Clay is on tv I suspend all duties (including bathroom trips, phone call answering, plaintive pleas from children and hubby) in case I miss a moment of fun. I think he looked great dancing, was it with Cheryl? I too can not bring myself to watch it due to Ripa's remarks. A discussion at CV prompted me to post the following and I would like to hear others' views on this: This got me thinking about Clay's recorded music for ATDW and OMWH. I don't get sense of fun or playfulness in any of the songs, something we get in spades when we see him live. Would love to hear others impressions of this. I wonder if this will change now that Clay has a new love in his life; I'm speaking of Parker here. I dug up that TV Guide (deep in my Clay box) from July 24, 2005, where the following paragraph appears: QUOTE Aiken has had to think a lot about love, lately, in choosing new songs for his CD. One songwriter he's reposnding to is Steven Curtis Chapman, a Christian artist who pens love songs to his wife and children. "I don't know that I'm there yet." Aiken says. "I hope I'm in a position some day to love somebody so much that I can write [a love song] or feel that passionate about something. I'm not emotionally barren, but I'm not so adamantly mad about somebody that I have anything to say." Will the feelings that are awakened with having a child have an impact on the music that speaks to him whether he chooses it or pens it himself? Again, would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this. I must credit duckyvee for causing me to wonder about the tone of clay's recordings now that he has Parker. We both agreed that the term "melancholy" sort of fit ATDW. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing
  2. {{{clayzedover}}}} Interesting to read about the Rod Stewat concert. Got to see Bruce Hornesby at the House of Blues in Atlantic City last night. A terrific show but I kept wishing it was Clay on stage. I went with a friend who feels about Bruce the way i feel about Clay. I let her wax on rhapsodic about Bruce for two days - she just loves him. And he is a terrific musician with good stage presence. my friend cracked me up- she said she had seen Bruce (now hold on to your hats, ladies) 8 times in concert!!!! She asked me if thought that was a bit obsessive? No, perfectly normal, i said.
  3. cha cha The opening ceremony was unbelievable. i wish they would re-broadcast it. It was just amazing. I am trying to finish Emma tonight for a bookclub tomorrow. But between the Olympics and another major distraction today, I am too distracted. OMWH is now #377 on Amazon.
  4. OMWH is now #511 on Amazon. Just yesterday is was in the 1,700's. The rank was in the 800s a few hours ago. Wondering what causes the increase in sales on Amazon. Fans celebrating by buying more albums? NJU thinking "Clay Aiken is a father. I just might buy his new cd." I always wonder why non-music news can cause a spike in sales. When Clay used the term "my dear friend" I took it as a signal that is a platonic relationship. But of course it is possible to be a dear friend and lover too, I suppose.
  5. Congratulations Clay and Jaymes and welcome to the world, Parker! Jaymes Foster is the fourth most searched on Yahoo right now.
  6. Enjoying the discussions as always. I am not sure Clay would be lost on stage without Quiana and Angela. He ws superb during the JN06 tour and he played off the orchestra then. He did have jamie do the word thingy but mostly it was Clay, being just amazing. in fact that tour really brought home his versatility as a performer to me. One of my favorite pieces of clack ever was taken by a fan at a KLo concert attended by Clay, Angela, John Dahlstrom, and Quianna. Perhaps there were others but that is all I saw in the video. They are all moving and clapping to the music and then Clay turns to Angela and starts to dance with her in an amazingly sexy way. I have never seen anything like it since, not even in the WDC numbers. Does anyone remember that bit of Clack? It is on an now dead laptop and I would love to have it again.
  7. Greetings from Reno, Nevada. I am visiting my sister and BIL for a week's vacation and have been able to peek in here and there to see what was going on FCA. I am still on Eastern time I think as I get up way before anyone else so gives me a little it of time to say hi. Looks like I am not the only one on vacation. To the epHers...have a terrific time during your get together. Safe travels to all others. I did not bring a copy of OMWH and I regret that. I am in serious OMWH withdrawal. My sister and BIL who are just about perfect in every way just don't get Clay. But they know that he is my "fun" as we call it and that's okay. Although my sister does not understand how I could follow him so close she does think he has an amazing voice but doesn't get following him as closely as I do. In fact a few years ago, she approached the Austin Opera Company (she was on the board of the music school affiliated with opera) about casting Clay in a part in an opera. She thought he could draw new patrons to the opera. She didn't get a response and even I thought she was crazy. I know that some non-trained pop singers, Linda Rondstadt comes to mind, did operetta (Pirates of Penzance?) but if I recall she wasn't very good. Now after seeing Clay in Spamalot, I think he could tackle an operetta. Not saying he would want too, but I love Gilbert and Sullivan. But a regular opera? I don't think so. My sister did bring up that she saw Clay's picture on the cover of People and read the daddy article. She thought he looked like a meterosexual in that pic, the planet hollywood ones, and wondered why he had so much eye make-up on. I explained that he may have had permanent eyeliner on for Spamalot and that those pics were taken at the same time. I told her I actually liked those pics from that photoshoot but many fans did not. My sister thought the article was very good though. Saw Andrew Bird here last week. I was not familiar with his music but he is an amazing violinist, terrific vocals, with a boatload of whimsy. The crowd of mostly twenty year olds were entranced. I even saw some of the look of love on the faces of the woman patrons that I see at Clay concerts. And I heard an audible moan or two from these same patrons when he hit some lovely low notes. For those who live near Reno, Chris Isaak is coming on August 1. I would love to see him perform. I know I missed the Lyle Lovett discussion from last week but I am also a huge fan of his as well. And the person who brought me to these two performers was Clay, believe it or not. I had always been into music in a big way but when my kids were born I switched over to Rafi and Wee sing and pretty much NPR. Clay brought me back to pop music and really music in general. With nothing recorded yet immediately after AI2, I went to the music store looking for other male voices to enjoy. I bought a lot of Lyle Lovett who I continue to enjoy, especially his stuff with his Large Band. I bought the Room for Squares album by John Mayer which I still enjoy as I do several of his songs since then. I even bought a Brookes and Dunn greatest hits album. Except for a song or two, didn't enjoy it that much although their voices are terrific. The point is that Clay brought me back to record buying. Not just him, but other artists as well. And I am sure I was not alone. He sold nearly a million of his single-and that brought people back into record stores and I bet some left with other music. Same with his cd. I wonder if Clay was ever given credit for causing a small boon to record buying, if only temporarily.
  8. I know! OMG GAH on both the baby pic and the smiley pic! couchie, you are sooo right. My oh my oh my.... And that pic with the smiling children....what joy he brings to them...and them to him. He just exudes love and compassion. He looks really, really, really good while exuding all that good stuff.
  9. A couple of days ago I was listening to my local AC station and I heard the dj say "i have two words for you "Artificial Insemination!" Clay Aiken is going to be a daddy using artificial insemination. Here is his new song." An they proceeded to play OMWH. I was so taken aback by the unnecessary introduction that I wrote an email to the station. The first time i have ever responded to disses I have heard or read about Clay. But this hit me. I received an email from the dj (a substitute dj who has said unkind things about Clay in the past) thanking me for my email and proceeded to inform me that it was "factual" that Clay was going to be a daddy and that it was "factual" that he used artificial insemination and that his mention of those facts was "not intended to be rude." But it was, and I let it drop. I'd like to keep this just at this board. I shared this experience because it shows how the stories are being perceived by at least one consumer who unfortunately has a large audience. musikfest, have the happiest of birthdays. I wanted to comment on the picture of your daughter before and forgot. What an amazing picture to treasure and she is quite lovely. I miss the days when i would travel far and wide to watch my kids play sports. Loving the video challenge. I can hardly keep up. Such a wonderful idea right now because it brings back so many wonderful memories. I remember when i first heard Good News at Sewell, NJ. It absolutely blew me away. His gospel voice and tone, just so gorgeous. Another very wonderful thing about Sewell is that I met the lovely duckyvee and her family for the first time. The MAP TITN. My friend and I drove 6 hours to watch Clay sing one song....and it was worth it. We had a blast, met tons of wonderful people some already Clay fans and some Clay fans in the making. ALAWH....to me this is a gorgeously constructed song. I love the bridge to pieces and how it builds to a wonderful finish. Parts of the last verses, how he brings added bang for the buck to "and I'm going to love you" reminds me a bit of the end of TRD. The vocal quality. A really well produced song with amazing vocals from Clay. Can you imagine him singing this live? It will be a soggy mess with all the puddles of goo in the audience. I love lumberjack Clay (the ET piece). He looks downright beefy and in a good way. Could his shoulders be more broad? Edited for assorted flubs.
  10. A question for the ages, desertrose. Let me know when you find the answer. There is a dissertation thesis in this somewhere. rohdy I Melt With You by Modern English...a small classic from the 80's. Raise your hand if you saw Valley Girl (the song was used in that movie) with Nicolas Cage and I believe Deborah Foreman. Ok keep you hands up if you own the film. (much smaller crowd). Loved the movie and the song. I am really far behind but I wanted to mention another chick flick, a kinda chick flick that has guys and girls, and a chick click with pretty much all guys. Love, love, love all of these movies. Persuasian, BBC version with Amanda Root. Just superb, very satisfying. Last Days of Disco, Kate Beckinsdale, Chole Sevigney, assorted men. Very talky (even the guys) and that is why I call it a chick film with guys and gals. Again, very satisfying. Swingers Jon Favereau, Vince Vaughn, Jon Livingston (very cute) Pretty much all guys, very talky, hence the "chick" flick designation. I believe I am the only person in the universe who received this dvd from a son for Mother's Day. It was the perfect gift at the time because I love this film. Ok, back to Clay. (I think he could have played the Jon Livingston part....and maybe, just maybe the Jon Favereau part). What I really want to talk about is Where I Draw the Line Back in the days of the snippets, this was not one of my favorites but when I saw him sing this on QVC I was really drawn to the song. Crack on the "kiss" and all (apologies to duckyvee who can barely watch that song due to the flub). I think this song really, really rocks. The orchestration when he sings "Are you going to rescue me" is so kick ass with the driving guitars. I love when phrases are sung with emphasis on pretty much the same note. (Baby You Can Drive My Car by the Beatles comes to mind) And then followed by the plaintive, achingly sung "Or are you going to be the death of me." Just perfection. Music people, is that is what is known as the bridge of a song, those two lines? I think it is the best bridge on the entire album. Very much adds to the power of the song. I think this song could be enormously popular if heard on the radio. I do not particularly care for his performance of it on the AOL sessions, however. He seems a little flat in the beginning. QVC much better. Just wanted to say I love reading on this board.
  11. Just had to add that my experiences with friends and aquaintences who know of my Clay fandom make typically only neutral or positive comments. My neice who used to be hostile about Clay soon after AI2 ('he shouldn't be getting all the attention because Ruben won' variety) was very complimentary about him when we last talked a few weeks ago, pointing out how much charity work he does. She was very curious about the baby thing but not judgemental. She thinks he is a great guy. Her perceptions of him have changed, and in the positive direction, over the years. I think his charity work has influenced this middle twenties graduate student. Remember those Baltimore station guys interviewing Clay for the OMWH promotion spots he was doing? Their respect for him was very evident. I would expect that they heard the jokes and other stuff but regardless they seemed genuinely impressed with Clay and his accomplishments. WINY I really disliked the Leo Sayer version. His winy is whiny, IMO. And when I heard Clay talk about it as a possible song for MOAM, I thought, NO! But he blew me away with his acoustic version in the IT. It was this song and FOG that caused an epiphany about who Clay was as an artist early in my fandom. it ratcheted it up to another level. I wanted more of that side of Clay. (Does anyone recall that jacob was instrumental in getting him to sing FOG? i will be ever thankful to him for that.) The version of the QVC bonus was a bit underwhelming for me compared to my memories (and download) of the original. But I am still pleased to have it and need to re-listen. couchie, you earned an F in accessing bonus material, I am right behind you at D-. Haven't looked at the videos or listened to other songs on QVC bonus and haven't downloaded my music pass stuff. Still stuck on that pretty picture.
  12. Haven't quite caught up but I wanted to comment on WOTW. I think from an instrumentation point of view this is one of the best songs on the cd. I love the guitar work throughout. The opening is really catchy and at the end the guitar really wails. I love wailing guitars! I hope that when Clay tours he gets a kick ass guitarist or two, or three...ok don't want to get too greedy here. I think his voice is very expressive on this song and I love how he lets the sounds roll on"feeling cold alone and desparate." His voice is such an instrument. Sensational phrasing. I love the female voices on "unbreakable." That last "carry the weight of the world" just sensational. When he talks/sings "they're right" it has a theatrical touch to me, but not in a bad way for me. I think this song could be a successful single. merimeee...my car veered into a Target parking lot yesterday for no good reason but I was about ten miles away when it started. I wanted to buy a music pass, or two, as gifts to Clay friends who said they needed a sturdy bookmark. I am hoping the introduction of the Music Passes this week helps the bottom line for this cd.
  13. You guys are just so darn interesting, I can't stop reading the posts. i am bone tired but I wanted to post about Something About Us, but I have been busy reading the thoughtful discussion. SAU has fluctuated between my one and two spot since I heard the snippets. After seeing QVC I became enamoured with Where I Draw the Line but that performance of SAU was stellar too. He also did a fabulous job singing that on Sessions. But I love the recorded version too. I love the quality of his voice in this song and the sounds he produces. Claymatron, I am with you on how he sings "fool." The tone in his voice then drives me to distraction. And his delivery of the last phrase "about us" is perfection. The song is a throwback to some of the singers and songs I liked when I was younger. Somehow Jack Jones keeps popping into my head with the intro to a song from 1962, "I Just Can't Stop From Loving You" or something like that. I have been music gaga since forever and even when I was drawn to more beat driven music of rock I always had a place for singers like Sammy Davis Jr. (preferred him to Frank Sinatra when I was younger) and early Barbra Streisand when she did standards-My Name is Barbra and Color Me Barbra, I think were the names of the albums I particularly liked. I never liked her music when she went for a poppier sound. Something was lost for me. So SAU evokes that feeling for me and Clay's performance of that song is amazing. I know at one time he said that this could be his favorite song and I think when he said he wanted to produce a "Clay Aiken" song, he had this in mind. And really, I think this song may turn out to be a standard associated with Clay. This is the song that gets the most positive mentions from people I have gifted the album to. From my hairdresser who lives and breathes country to a colleague to whom I sent the AOL sessions link because it reminded me so much of her and her new hubby, to a very close friend who likes Clay but doesn't follow him. This is the song they talk about. And when my soon to be 85 year old mom gets in my car, she asks for the song about Romeo and Juliet. I am thrilled that it is getting extra exposure in the Obama montage. I have read some of the comments and many of the positive ones do not appear to be clay fans as determined by clicking their name and looking at most watched videos by these posters. I love that Its In Every One of Us montage with all those pictures of clay with children. They just gravitate to him and looks so comfortable and happy in their presence. I had forgotten about some of my favorite pics that were featured. That one when he read to the class in the school in Harlem. The look of glee on those children's faces! And when he was holding that boy during his Unicef trip to Mexico.
  14. Cotton, you aksed yesterday why bother getting a Music Pass especially when you have have quality downloads already and the actual CD? May I humbly suggest that it makes a lovely, durable bookmark. And you can't have too many of those. I love the articles about Clay and what he has to say about Somalia. He strikes a knowledgeable and humble tone at the same time. And the shallow part of me finds his use of the term "effect change" all kinds of hot. Sacrificial Love. I was one of the few, I believe, who adored the snippet of this song. I actually like how the snippet ends without the "that perfect face" ending. It is not so much the words but the musical impact. Although I am not a lyric person, I do pay attention in this album because of possible association with Clay's experiences over the last few years. I remember him saying in an earlier interview that this was one of his favorite songs on the album. Perhaps this has been discussed before, but I find it interesting how Clay has shifted the relevance of the songs as pertaining to this own experience (early in the promotion cycle) to saying it doesn't so much apply to him as to experiences people have generally (this was in the CNN interview). Perhaps he was stung by the scrutiny the songs were given to provide support for his sexual preference. Were there any songs on the album that when you heard them made you think, wow, I bet this really speaks to Clay, no wonder he chose it. For me it was the songs Where I Draw the Line and Lover All Alone. Maybe the latter is caused by the former. ETA Cotton, thank you so much for bringing over that you tube. I had never seen it before. That beginning pic of Clay is him at his most handsome, IMHO.
  15. Ok, I tried to count but I couldn't decide when one began and one ended. That is, hands down, the thudiest picture ever of Clay. I know msn is the devil but I love him described as dreamy. He certainly is. And I forgot who said it earlier, but I thought they may have frozen his sperm in case it did not take the first time and he was unavailable to make a "deposit." Especially with his packed schedule with Spamalot and what not. I love how Clay says "what not."
  16. www.roseradio.com should be playing OMWH in the next 10 minutes. they stream
  17. I'm not Cotton but that lovely profile is from the Nightline piece last month on ABC.
  18. cha cha trusty, i think the interview that was part of the CNN clip was done in 2003, as that date appears on the screen. I thought he looked terrific in that brief clip where he was singing Invisible.
  19. Bookwhore, your response to my question, reminds me of the GDLA appearance where Dorothy says something to Clay about OMWH, that it was melancholy or somesuch and was she making too much out of it. And Clay looks right at her and deadpans "yes." I laughed outloud at that. Loved that appearance too.
  20. I was reading on CH and someone posted the on line Rachel Ray interviews. I thought I had caught up with all the clack but i had missed this one. He answered three questions. And I making too much out of the first out of the three question he chose to answer? And could he be any cuter? oops, didn't put the link. http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/show/segment...your-questions/
  21. canfly, thank you so much for posting that link. In the clack orgy just a bit ago I missed this interview. Could our collective boyfriend be any more articulate? We can still call him our collective boyfriend can't we? iseeme I watch the Good Morning LA video over and over. It just really is the most fun piece. Clay being articulate and funny, the hosts enjoying the heck out of him, it seems. His interaction just seemed to help them raise their game. He is just so darn charismatic. And handsome. With the exception of a woman in my excercise class who asked me about the situation, no one has said a word to me about it. No phone call, no emails, nada. I don't make a big deal about my clay fandom but people know about it. Their statements are usually neutral or postitive. I went to a wedding two weeks ago and I sat with a young colleague and her new husband at the reception. She asked me what kind of music I like and my tastes are quite eclectic so I went through my litany and mentioned Clay. She said that she really enjoyed his music and just loved "Mark of a Man" and that she played it over and over. She asked her hubby if he knew Clay Aiken and he said "Oh yeah, it is something how that deep voice comes out of that skinny body." I don't think that he has seen him since AI. I told them he filled out since then (I can't help myself, clay factoids just spill out of me sometimes). Neither knew he had a new album out (and neither did the excercise lady and she really likes him). My female colleague said she would definitely buy it. I forwarded to her the AOL sessions as a reminder. I told my sister about the situation and her first words were. "What a kind thing for Clay to do for his friend." I was surprised. My sister loves his voice but is really not that interested in his music. And the fact that I am so devoted to him(and believe me, I do not wear this on my sleeve, but I can't help that ICG, involunary clay grin, I get when i am talking about him) really squicks her out. She just doesn't like it. It has nothing to do with Clay per se. It is just that the level of my devotion for someone I don't know personally is puzzling to her. It just doesn't fit the person she thinks she knows. Geez, it's puzzling to me but I just stopped trying to figure it out. I think this is the issue with many friends, family, co-workers of Clay fans. They see a level of devotion that they just can't understand for someone the fan really has no relationship with. BTW, FCA has been the sanest place to be in my fandom over the last few days. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of the posts and the respect shown to each other.
  22. OMWH coming up on www.roseradio.com Coming up before 1 PM EST. Daughtry newest one is on now. I find this song hard to listen to melodically.
  23. idyjocelyn Thank you so much for keeping us on task last night and tonight. I really loved doing this and learned alot from all the posts. Goos night all! that was supposed to be "good night" . I am that tired.
  24. When I first heard this I figured that the reason this wasn't on the regular album is because it another bad relationship song and that theme was taking over the album. Considering so many people are curious about his love life, such an emphasis is curious. i am thinking they didn't want to go there.
  25. I would say that this song was my least favorite on the cd. But today I found myself humming it all day. It has developed an ear worm. I love the part : "maybe I should" and the line that came before it, that has the great beat. more little catches in his voice. I like that. And the driving instrumentation that comes in. But I don't like the glory note. And the song seems awkward at points. But it is growing on me. \
