  1. Hee! and I call it the Supernova moment. He goes from zero to holy-shit-what-was-that??? in about 5 seconds. Awesome! I just call it orgasmic.
  2. Time for a lesson in etymology. Please scroll at will. I also dislike the current use of the word "fey", but for a very different reason. Fey originally meant "doomed to die" or "at the point of death". From there it morphed to accursed, timid or weak. A very different word "fay" had a bunch of meanings, the primary being "religious faith" or "allegiance", "faith". It also was linked to the world of faerie as in Morgan le Fay. Somewhere in about the 14th century "fey" took on the meaning of "fay" so you had a word that had connotations of death, faith and faerie. Someone who was fey was devout, doomed and otherworldly. Not exactly anything to do with sexual orientation, but then neither was "gay".

  4. After more than a dozen throwbacks, I finally got one seat in the back of the orchestra. Typical TicketB results. On CV someone said front row tix are already on eBay. grumble.. grumble ...grumble.
  5. I am now officially an idiot pushover. I just bought the Sunday NYTimes for $6 because of the picture. I only picked it up to check if it were really there and that sucker jumped into my cart so fast, I had to give it a home. Seriously, I am thrilled that the first really public picture of Clay & Reed together is owned by the NYT. Now none of the sleaze rags or entertainment shows can claim "First" "Exclusive" photos of them. Well they can claim, but it won't be true.
  6. After what Aron (or does he spell it Aaron?) said about Clay producing the Gala, my bet is that Clay is up to his eyeballs in work for the GFI. Producing one of those things is like planning a wedding plus making all the travel & housing arrangements for the bridal party and special guests. Just scheduling all the foursomes and lessons and photo ops and silent auctions and on and on, not to mention being the entertainment for the evening.
  7. Ah, Country Joe. Give me an F Gimme a U gimme a C Well you know the rest...
  8. Keeping - I'd forgotten all those "death songs." I thought they were stupid even when I was a teenager. Don't care to listen to them now to see if I have a different reaction. "Teen Angel" was played over & over & over. Couldn't stand it. I did like Tennessee Ernie's version of "16 Tons". I think it is safe to say that it is one song that's out of Clay's range.
  9. Songs from the 1950s that I really, really, really don't need to hear again - no matter who sings them Davey Crockett Purple People Eaters Splish-Splash Cross Over the Bridge Fascination The Bunny Hop Any other nominations for the worst songs of that decade? All of these songs were at the top of "The Hit Parade" (remember that show??) at one time or another.
  10. '50s & '60s! Hey, That's MY era. I know those songs. That was my favorite part of the JBT. Clay's making his CD just for MMMEEEEEE!!!!!!! I didn't stop listening to pop music until 1970. Ahem, before Clay was born. I'm feeling old now. Chances Are, Heartbreak Hotel, Cry, even the Ballad of Davey Crocket. I want to hear them all.
  11. :04: :balloons: :04: Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I received my NIP flash drive today. It was a thank you from the Gala. It came postage due!
  13. I may be weird, but I loved working Friday nights at the library. It gave me Wed. am off when I could shop without hassles plus on Fridays, the library was almost empty so I could actually get some work done without interruptions. If you stress some of the advantages of working a few "off" hours, you may find that some people really enjoy them. The only thing I didn't like was walking home down Broadway at midnight!
  14. I guess I qualify as an old fart because I did buy Susan's cd. I really like most of it, but a very strange thing happened. I am NOT a fan of religious or inspirational music and there are a couple of hymns on the cd. First time around (yeah, I tend to just let a cd play, I don't skip tracks or randomize) I didn't like them and thought they really dragged, but I found one of the tunes that got totally stuck in my head was "How Great Thou Art". For days, I'd find myself humming it. At the same time that I bought that, I bought Pete Seeger's remastered "Live in '65 Concert". I used to be a folkie back in the day. It includes a lot of Pete's between-song patter and one of the things he talks about is how a good tune never goes away. He sings some examples of the same tune adapted by different musical traditions. Anyway, after listening to three cds full of real tunes and real lyrics it made me focus on why I usually hit the mute button on most vocal performances on TV. And I understand why a hymn that has stood the test of time with an engaging tune can become an earworm.
  15. Thanks, all, for the answers on the Amazon thingy. I figured it was a phantom, but didn't remember anything about it.
  16. Anybody know anything about this listing on Amazon? Have I missed something? Amazon link
  17. New York State has a lot of problems, but one thing we do have is state-sponsored health insurance for those who can't afford it. As long as you work one day a year, you can join a plan which is about half of most COBRAs. There is a sliding scale based on income and if you have too much, you can't join. It's great for the self-employed or unemployed. It was created to target working folks who don't have insurance. We also have a prescription plan for seniors that really helps in making medications affordable.
  18. I think you are right. It looks like a square card. How typical of Clay not to notice or not to care!
  19. I just watched the new video. Great performance, but what is that white blob hanging from his belt? jacket? or something? I kept watching it trying to figure out what it was. It's definitely attached to him somehow, but I don't think it's part of the mike or electronics. Any guesses?
  20. Anyone wanting a ticket, PM me. I'll be away from the board for a while - Have to amuse DGD - but I'll reply ASAP.
  21. I just hope that we all don't have to eat our extra tickets! Can't afford to be quite that generous. ETA Whew! I know it's mean, but I'm glad the Gala is sold out.
