Ewwww Ick! I thought that was horrible. To this day I can't watch that without cringing. I thought Clay looked uncomfortable. I understand some people thought it was cute, but it was awkward to me. Well, to add to the earlier discussion of memorable Clay double entendres, Clay did say during this recent tour, "ladies, size matters", although I can't remember which city it was and what the context was. To me, that's another piece of possible evidence in the "he so knows" column, although I can see where this could just be normal bawdiness, and catering to a more adult audience. Does anyone know the city and the context? I have mixed feelings about the Kimmel exchange on the shoe size matter. I was somewhat "icked" by the observation, but given that it was made, his, IMO, "knowing" look with Kimmel was very interesting.

Ah, that assumes he knows about the fold. Are you are talking about the Pala WISYS with Flat Clay? My take is I'm not quite clear about what he utters sotto voce (was that ever a "word of the day"?) and what its intended meaning was. It's certainly an intriguing indication that he may know or, as someone noted upthread, maybe he is truly clueless about Waldo, or is just a darn good actor. I have a question about the ATDW CD signing the afternoon before the Kimmel taping last fall. Does anyone have any info (or an opinion for that matter) as to whether the clack of Clay summoning security because of the presumed interloper with the "Aiken for Clay" sign (as it turned out, Jimmy) was staged or filmed as it actually happened. It is hard for me to tell whether Clay is feigning wariness or if it's a joke Jimmy pulled off. IMO, Clay's a pretty good actor. I thought he did a very good job of pretending not to know what Jimmy was talking about until he pulled out the mic during the Valentine's Day candy song.

I did stare at my Ken doll at lot. I couldn't quite figure out the torso demarcations. Couldn't agree more! The visual pleasure of clack is even better than the aural. Thank you for explaining what CMSU means. Left to my own devices, and considering the context, all I could come up with was "crotch material stretched unilaterally". As for continuing the double entendre conversation, I thought he did rather well with "scordatura" when someone in the audience mentioned if he was scoring on this tour. The "sadly, I'm not" comment was priceless. He really does have a comedic gift, so I could quite willingly contemplate the TV show aspirations even though it seems such a waste of his main gift, his voice. I do wonder whether Clay will be brave enough to do other audience participation segments in the future such as "word of the day" and "stump the band"; the latter, in particular, showed how willing he was to fly without a net and WAMLAW is one of my most favorite pieces of clack ever.

I never dreamed that when I made a high falutin' Shakespearean reference about "The Merchant of Venice" that I would be sucked into this morass of smut by association! I kind of like it; I can appreciate the workings of an agile mind independent of its wanderings (I was going to say that I was a straight man for muski but then I discerned where that statement could go, so I thought better of it). I see I must keep my smut shields here on red alert. This result never occurred to me when I high-fived someone for wanting to know the parameters of giving up chocolate for Clay. I am truly in awe! This place is going to be very interesting! Someone else noticed? I do know what DTTL and DTTR means, but what does CMSU mean? Have pity on a newbie. Cuddle Duds rock, so do layers! I like this observation about how well Clay handles his public "mode". I admire the fearlessness that goes into bantering with his audience and how he handles the occasional wandering into some double entendres. I got a kick of how well he used the zipper banter at Verona last year during the Xmas tour. He turned what could have been a very embarrassing episode of being told his zipper was unzipped into a very funny one of telling the woman's husband to be careful because his wife liked him before launching into "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire". I do think he wandered into "be proud of your instrument" also, but he could appreciate the moment. The one time I have seen him ignore the audience was when he said Angela was going to "give it to him later" at Sterling Heights this year, but he was very purposeful in letting the audience know he was going to ignore any ulterior meanings. He really does have very good comedic timing skills that are wonderful to watch. Can anyone else come up with some memorable Clay double entendres? Frozen custard stands are wonderful, too!

Days Mom gets a bath are good days for me too. I can relate. Very good point! Sounds like a "two pounds of flesh" argument. I like the way you think. Maybe we could market chocolate Clays, like the chocolate Hans Solo upthread. Forget pins, this is much better! Small copyright issues, but whatever!

Considering Clay's allergy, this might be the right website! Maybe the next topic could be would you give up chocolate for Clay? I would have to ruminate on that......

Hershey's dark chocolate doesn't do it for me any more. I've reached the point that I need the harder stuff. So I have graduated to Hershey's Cacao Reserve. Thanks for the suggestions! I didn't know that Paul Newman made a chocolate or Sam's Club.

"Snowballs in the Hardland". Sounds like a worthy sequel to a "Soft Rock in a Hard Place". Clay does seem to like double entendres, at least, he makes a pause to acknowledge that maybe he walked into one. "All is Well" has been in my car CD deck since it came out. I find it incredibly soothing. I don't care if it's 95 degrees in the shade. Newbie here as this is, I believe, my fourth post. Before I signed up for this board, I sped read through about the past 100 pages or so. What I did like was that I didn't agree with everything and some things I didn't agree with I had never thought of from the poster's perspective. I like having my thinking challenged. I compare this feeling to taking a course in college where you already know the subject matter and you keep thinking, what am I doing here because I'm not learning anything. I haven't found anything here offensive or mean-spirited, just thought-provoking (and sometimes, the thought provoked is that someone needs to vent). I consider posts to be much like the old analogy of buses, men, or Clay's hair (insert whichever one fits) that if you don't like one, you may like the next one that comes along. I often been intrigued by Clay's fanbase and why they are who they are. For instance, the responders in the recent concert survey at the OFC, were very interesting. My estimate is that Clay's fanbase is probably about two-thirds over the age of 40 and about 95% female. Why is this? And why are his fans so protective of him? Is it because they are older and female and are used to being big sisters, mommies, aunts, etc.? Why aren't many willing to let him fight his own battles? Not many seem to be paying attention to one of Clay's more recent blogs where the message was just because they say it's true, doesn't make it so and to let "them" call him what they want, he can take it. I tend to view that as a gentle nudge from a boss who's a hands-off manager. I'm still in the fandom because Clay is one of the few great voices I've heard in a long, long time. My formative years were the 60s and early 70s when it was the normal course that someone who sang had a good voice. What on earth happened? I listened to Kanye on some late night show last night and he's just not my thing, so when Clay appeared on the scene, he was someone I wanted to support because, finally, there was someone I enjoyed hearing (and as it has turned out, I enjoy hearing him independent of whatever genre he is singing). If no one is interested in talking about this, can anyone recommend some "good, dark, chocolate"?

No one else remembers the Rolling Stone quote of: besides me? I agree with the view expressed that Clay may have avoidance issues. I know that quote always stuck with me as one of those Oprah-ish times of when someone is telling you who they are, listen! I also agree that Clay may not be 100% blameless, but I do leave the major brunt of this "unfortunate event" on Kim's lap for literally announcing the wedding when she hadn't heard from the guy for months. I do sympathize with the view that she may have wanted this badly and from what I have observed of her, she is a hard-working girl and has aggressively worked on keeping her name out there, even if it meant taking some strange gigs like the Celebrity Fit Club. As for Kim mouthing off, she did do that with Simon, didn't she, on national TV, no less! I don't think mouthing out there helped her image either. As for Clay not getting in touch with Kim before his second blog, he virtually had the Huns storming at his gate in terms of rather strongly worded responses to his blog, the likes of which he had never before seen. I think he made a conscious decision of putting his fans before his friendship with Kim. I think, in this case, given these circumstances, it was the right choice. Rome was burning and he couldn't afford to fiddle. I can think of one time where Clay did put a friend above his fans and that was with Gregory Ellis and his illness. I think what he did in protecting Gregory's medical issue and his privacy was the right thing there too. And people believe what they want to believe even if you have stated many times the opposite of what they believe (Clay's promo appearances for ATDW on GMA and Larry King come to mind). Hi! This is my first post. I "know" many of you from other boards where I post or lurk, so I don't feel like much of a newbie, which likely explains this post. I still have unresolved thoughts about the past few days and I think some people here may be game for ruminating on my ruminations, so here goes: 1. Why was the idea of a Reunited tour the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back" for so many fans? Was it because some were no longer proud or honored to be a fan of such a "winner"? It may just be my personal quirk, but I have often been unsettled by a cascade of posts that say "we sure backed a winner" or variations of the same, whenever Clay does something generally seen as admirable, just because I can't relate to making that statement; I mean it's nice to back a winner, but it's never been a seemingly non-negotiable condition of my being a fan. Do some people need to back a "winner" and the idea of a "Reunited" tour caused an earthquake-like jolt that Clay was no longer a "winner" and they needed to withdraw their support? Do people derive self-esteem and validation from supporting someone they can put on a pedestal, but they can't let them off a pedestal because it shows the folly of their choices and, thereby, damages their self-image? Why were so many strong feelings simmering below the surface that caused this non-announcement to be a breaking point? Was it leftover frustration from ATDW and its generally perceived non-kick-ass status? And why do many think it is important for Clay to have a kick-ass CD? What's wrong with a non-kick-ass CD that's a nice niche product and maybe earns gold status again? And does a universal definition of "kick-ass" exist? Is it Kanye's or David Foster's? Is the concept of a "kick-ass" CD going to be the same let-down that the ATDW "shock and awe" that never materialized was for some in the fandom, if a certain definition of "kick-ass" isn't met? 2. I have a different take on Clay's second blog than has been voiced by many. I don't subscribe to the "serendipity" theory of the first blog although it could be true. My read is that Clay may have been somewhat aware of the situation and was hoping he could just ignore it as he has ignored many matters in the past. The reaction to the first blog, however, was so strong that he felt mandated (interesting word) to add his "By the way..." addendum. It really doesn't matter if he knew or didn't know, but it seems to me that to some, the supposition that he didn't know of the fan angst before the first blog, is very important, because they can't imagine him knowing and not addressing their angst. He may not have known, but an alternative view is that he knew and was hoping to distract, as distraction (i.e. Britney!, Lindsay!, Paris!) often works in current pop culture; perhaps Clay quickly saw that distraction blogging didn't work and gave an angry audience the mandate they wanted. I don't have a lot of answers, just a lot of leading questions that may reveal my answers. I do hope that Clay maintains his current level of success because it means I can see him in concert as well as several times a year on my TV. Mucho goodo! ETA: While I was writing this, I see Ansamcw had the same thought: So another question: What's wrong with backing a loser or is all this turmoil still vindication of AI2 anomaly night? Does that remain a sore point for many of us if we still have a visceral reaction if Clay isn't the best? And, if so, why? Is all the angst still a carryover from that night, like a repressed memory?
