  1. Seeing people seemed to like CF's audio, I made mp3s of ALAWH and MEAY without the banter, just the songs.

I just noticed your siggy. Kewl quote:

A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.

    Clay mention:

Clay was at West Side Story in Raleigh last night!

    http://kelliebigtodolist.blogspot.com/2009...-with-phil.html

Phil got us tickets to go see West Side Story last night in downtown Raleigh. We arrived with just minutes to spare before the show began and when we went to pick up our tickets at Will Call, we ended up getting majorly upgraded to center stage, 7th row (we originally had upper balcony). Only thing I can figure is they had open seats and figured no one else was buying them at that point so maybe they just reassigned people who were picking up their tickets.

The show was pretty good and it was Phil's first musical - I think he was quite impressed by all the snazzy finger snapping, jazz hands and leaps that the Sharks and Jetts did when they were having street fights During intermission we also discovered that Clay Aiken was sitting right behind us...thought it was pretty interesting cause that was the 1st famous person I've seen out in public and I thought it was funny that we had better seats than he did!

  3. Great recap luckiest. Good thing somebody is good at recaps! YYG did one up too and I was like "How the HECK you remember all of that? And in order non-the-less, lol?"

    My new favorite picture:

    gala150.jpg

It's my favourite too I think. He looks so YOUNG in that one. It seems like it could have been taken in 2003 or 2004. He looks totally different in some other shots. He is such a chameleon, lol.

Here is my other favourite. Cotton PSd out the teleprompter from the original:

canfly, I don't know if anyone answered your question about the naming of linear threads. Yeah, I think the CH is to blame for that. and to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure how or why it happened. All I know is that I kind of like it -- when I go back over old threads, the titles suggest to me what was happening at the time.

Thanks for reminding me to answer. The earliest source I know is Television Without Pity (TWoP), from which CH was born (after they were thrown out for being too fangirlie over Clay). TWoP has a tradition of naming threads for each AI contestant who makes it to the round of finalists (top 12 or 13). You can see some of the old Clay thread titles from there here: About the PRoC - People's Republic of Clay. Back then, TWoP also named new thread titles after 80 pages or so; now there's only one thread that goes on and on. Clay's is called "Clay Aiken VI: The Thing That Wouldn't Die" because it was the 6th thread in the Performer's forum. The VI is misleading, because there were also 17 threads in another forum.

Thanks for the history lesson. I was a fan right from the beginning, but I was a fan in isolation living off of my AI2 VHS tapes because I didn't even have internet until March 2004, so I missed out on all of that early stuff.

    canfly--your audio clack sounds wonderful!

Thanks. I'm glad. That's the main reason that I use a camcorder vs a digital camera. Once Scarlett gets done, hers should be really good too. Her camcorder has a totally different sound than all of the rest and has that big-assed mic boom on it, lol. Spot should have some really good close-up clack.

Thank You everyone for pictures, recaps, clack and just plain sharin'.

:yeahthat: Sharing is good. I like sharing. ;)

  4. 1. Is this person Clay related, family, significant other, or character that Clay has at one time played? No (cheater) :imgtongue:

I know i cheat... but hey
    cheater :imgtongue:

    A Mug !!!!

geeeese..... my smutty mind would never have thought of that in a million years!!!!!

Which is why you and treenuts were havin' such a hard time with it! :lmao:

and for winning ..... you win a Mug !!!! ha ha

I want a nice one, K? Something classy.

My 3 clay related mugs are all sitting on my shelf...over there.... my JBT mug, my JNT "Clay as a woodsman" mug and my Spamalot mug all in a row! Never used... display only, lol.

  5. girlcanuck keeps cheating and asking more than one question per question. :smack:

    22. it's either a toothbrush No

    23. or fork No

    24. or spoon.... No

    25. Is it a thermometer? No

OK, that's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than 21 questions, lol.

Answer: A Spamalot mug but I would have taken "a mug", lol.

I really thought you guys got to substance in it or on it, that you were soooooo close.

See? Sucking? Sort of, you're basically sucking as you're taking a drink. Slurping involves a sucking action. See why that was a tricky question, lol?

The eating/food prep question was hard because are drinks considered "food"? I went with no.

Blow ON it? Yes. Blow it? No.

Re: 17. I've never see anybody sucking on a Spamalot mug in public and I've never used mine but I've seen lots of people drinking (which is sort of a sucking action, especially when tea or coffee is involved) out of generic mugs. If Scarlett had left out the AFAYK part, then I would have answered "Yes, I assume so", lol. That was the trickiest question to answer, lol.

Spurting would only happen if somebody tripped while holding their mug of coffee, etc...

    What I win? :Boss:

I guess the dubious honour of starting all over again? Let's make this easier.

    Person

  6. 1. Is it bigger than a breadbasket? No

    2. Does Clay use it? IDK. In general Yes but the specific one I have in mind, IDK but it's quite possible he has one, lol. Can you organize a tour of his house, so I can check?

    3. Does one usually hold it in their hand when in use? Yes

    4. Are batteries involved? No

    5. Do you push buttons when you use it? No

    6. Does one use it on a part of their own body as a rule? No

7a. does it work on electricity... (has to be plugged in) No.

7b. So I guess vibrators are out, huh? yup (not counting this one cuz it was a rhetorical question, lol)

    8. Is it used for grooming? No

    9. Is it used for eating or food prep? No

    10. does it come in contact with his mouth? If he has one and he uses it, then yes!

    11. Can it be made of wood? No (the specific one for sure no. I suppose you could make a generic one out of wood but I've never seen one)

    12. can he eat it? No

    13. or suck on it.... Not in the way you're thinking but kinda yes

    14. Would he blow it? No

    15. will it melt in his mouth? No

    16. Does something spurt out of it? No

    17. Have you (canfly) or any other member of the fandom (afayk of course) ever sucked one in public? No to specific one that I'm thinking of. Yes to a generic version. Once again, don't get misled by the word "sucking".

    18. Is it only for use in the mouth? When in use, yes part of it has to be in your mouth...at least part of the time.

    19. Is it more likely to be used by a child than an adult? No

    20. Is it primarily used with a substance in or on it once it's in your mouth? Yes

    21. Is it a pipe? No

I'll give ya one more guess cuz I split girlcanuck's "can he eat it or suck on it" two questions in one question.

Oh and Scarlett, I just figured out afayk, lol. :hahaha:

  7. Oh, while I'm being semi-sappy (don't get used to it BTW)...

I LOVE that tie that he was wearing at the gala!!! It's gorgeous! I couldn't see it from where we were sitting but I noticed it in a couple of pictures. Iz a vewwy pwitty tie! Iz all shiny 'n stuff....and it actually almost matches his shirt!

    :hahaha:

CanFly loved you post..you crack me up.

Whoah dude. :Imok: I gotta stop doin' that. It's messin' with my middle ear infections.

ETA: I love the profound statement my doc made at the walk-in last night, "You have lots of fluid in both of your ears". Really? No shit? I hadn't noticed" D101.

    A fun, silly clothes poll:

    http://clothespoll.blogspot.com/

You can vote for more than one item. I went with items worn on the lower extremities and the fugly green sweater cuz I feel sorry for it...and it's snuggled with Clay's neck lots.

  8. :curtsie:

Not sick yet huh? At this point I can deny all culpability cuz you've been back working with kids for 3 days! :imgtongue:

I hated to do it but I told them I wasn't coming in yet tomorrow. The girl who is supplying for me is quite happy. She said I sounded worse today. For whatever reason it's more bronchial today and I sound decidedly more froggy. No way I could project to a class without hysterical coughing. She said the kids were asking about me. Awwwwwwwwww... Principal was likely not so happy cuz tomorrow is a big TCLP meeting (don't ask...teaching kids to be critical thinkers) with 4 other schools for half of the day. She said she wasn't sure at what point I needed a doctor's note cuz I've been off 5 days straight but at least she could hear how bad I sounded and agreed it was a good idea to not come and make everybody sick. I think I'm coughing more now cuz I'm not loading myself with 5 times the recommended dose of anti-cough meds now like I was on the weekend, lol.

    :hahaha:

A cool mention by lindylo at CV:

I won't do a recap because others do it so much better but I do have a Clay story from Raleigh. On the Friday before the Gala we went shopping at a mall and being a bit of a tech geek I went into the Apple store. I was buying a cover for my iPhone and the 20-something guy waiting on me wanted to put it on my phone. As he was doing so he accidentally turned it on and my screen saver, of course, is guess who. He looked at Clay's picture and without mentioning his name said "he comes in here all the time. He is so nice and so knowledgeable about Apple products and everyone here loves waiting on him." He then said that he didn't know what he had been doing career wise so I told him about Spam and the Decca deal, neither of which he knew about. He said that he hoped he had another CD coming out because he loved his voice and repeated how smart he was and such a great guy.

  9. Is it more likely to be used by a child than an adult?

    No

. OK, big clue time. When in use, yes part of it has to be in your mouth.

here i am confused... if part of it has to be in your mouth... yet it is not held in his hand.... where the heck is the other part!!!!!

Yes, it's held in your hand when using it. Who said it wasn't? Did I eff up somewhere, lol?

ETA: Nope. I didn't eff up:

    3. Does one usually hold it in their hand when in use? Yes

  10. Twitter.....Clay just thanked me for helping win the Cookie challenge

Clay Aiken Thanks to everyone that voted in the Christie Cookie Charity Giveaway. Your votes were enough to put us back in the top spot!! A $10,000 check was presented to the National Inclusion Project last weekend at their annual gala. This would not have b...een possible without you all.

I know it was his team but a girl can dream!

Not sure if this has been posted?

  11. Reading through the last couple of pages, I was thinking..."They're talking about meeeee!" I'm pretty sure that I'm one of "those" bitches that some of ya can't stand...I'm one of the ones who wanna tell Clay what to sing and what not to sing (and how to have his hair and not have his hair, lol). Hopefully, the difference is that I'm not delusional enough to think that he's actually gonna listen to me, lol.

Nothing, absolutely nothing in my past musically would indicate that I would fall in love with Clay Aiken singing songs. I don't have a history with crooners, I mean, Neil Diamond was always too crooner for me. Not a fan of Sinatra, or Elvis either, after he became a crooner. I did enjoy the All Shook Up era when I was a kid watching my teenage cousins bopping around to Elllllllllll-vis. But the balladeer Elvis had me moving up the radio dial. All the Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, swinger singers totally escaped me. When I heard Paula Abdul say that Clay would sing Mack the Knife that night on Idol, I groaned. I really did groan. So, what happened was that he completely kicked my ass with that one. And that one long last note. He owns that note. And it was saloon, but transcendent saloon. He HAD me with that last note. So do I want him to sing I Left My Heart in San Francisco, or Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime? Unh-unh. On one hand, I'm not a fan of the balladeers; on the other hand, I'd lie down in the middle of road for Clay Aiken to record Mack the Knife. So who do I pay for my time on the couch here? Ha! (Maybe I just answered my own question! :tomato: ) I recently read a Paul McCartney interview where he was asked what music he likes to listen to. His answer was Nat Cole. He only recently discovered him and can't get enough. However, I can't imagine Macca singing Ramblin' Rose!!! Okay, enough tangential thinking for me tonight.

While I didn't have the exact same thoughts, I related a lot to your post KF because I sometimes feel like I oughta be paying for couch time but it's easier to just say, "WTF" and hang on for the ride. Admittedly, the ride has been a little "bumpy" at times but I'm here for the duration.

I'll never be in the "he can sing the telephone book" club like many of you are. Wish I was. I'm not. I loved the majority of the OMWH CD, however I fast-forwarded through a lot of the ATDW CD. Sawry. I do have this feeling that OMWH is going to remain my favourite Clay CD, along with my Toronto JBT CD, lol. I'm not going to angst over what's coming on the next CD. This is gonna sound kinda bad but I'm feeling kinda "resigned" that it's going to be a majority of cover ballads. I am feeling a splash of "hopeful" for some variety and maybe 2 or 3 uptempo songs in the mix. I did enjoy both MEAY and MR at the gala but I would not be my preference to have a whole album of just ballads HOWEVER I'm not stupid enough to think that I have any say in the matter, lol. As far as any future concerts go, Clay does seem to enjoy the crowd reactions to "uptempo" "fun stuff" in concerts, so I'm not anticipating that, that will suddenly change. Whatever it is. I'll be there.

I only listen to lyrics when Clay sings. I'm not sure why.

Cuz you can actually understand them? :hahaha:

Seriously, it's something about the way he gets right into the song and sings it from the heart.

Oh crap. I sounded like a sap for a second there!

    :yow:

Because (checks calendar) - it is time for some of the fans to start picking out the songs/eras/styles/etc. that better not be on Clay's next CD.

From here on out, even if Clay is caught humming along to ANYTHING, some fans will speak out against that song immediately and forcefully, to let him know that it should NOT be on that next CD.

Or damn the song with faint praise, or trivialize it with imagined meaning to Clay, while carefully explaining how very very wrong it is.

    :chair:

But do they really expect that if they bitch and moan loud enough that he will finally see the light and sing what they think is marketable? It's been 7 years people, if you don't know Clay Aiken by now...you never will.

Thanks. I now have "If You Don't Know Me By Now" stuck in my head, lol. Unfortunately, I'll never know him. None of us will. One can drive themselves insane trying to figure the man out. Ain't gonna happen, lol.

As for your other question...no, I don't think the complainers really think it will change anything. IMO, it's just to hear themselves. I'm still learning to "tune them out," but that really is the best thing to do. If people stop arguing with them (or for that matter, commenting on them), I'm hoping that some will realize that they are talking in a vacuum.

It's not so much liking to "hear myself" as it is "venting frustrations". Am I getting sucked away soon?

    :Ahh:

You know, we're starting to get close to the end of the thread (finally!). Do we have any suggestions for thread titles?

I kinda like the one we have!

    I'm gonna miss it! :sniff:

All I got right now is: "We'll never, ever know him cuz he's like a box of chocolates with a pickle on the side". :cryingwlaughter:

Silly question. Where did the idea for naming these linear threads come from? CH? I've noticed that with the exception of RHT, all of the boards with linear threads do the same thing. Just curious as to how it all started.

Are the music industry experts in the fandom sharing their expertise as to the path toward his greater success, and is Clay not playing along with their career plan? Is he again ignoring their pronouncements on the songs he should record? If so, it's definitely a :hahaha: for me.

Damn straight he's ignoring me. :hissy:

I certainly wouldn't associate myself with places that censor some speech while giving wide berth to ripping Clay Aiken to shreds, or boring me to tears with faux authoritarianism over his career choices.

    Gee...lemme guess....

There's a difference between expressing honest opinion and grinding the old ax. Oy vey!

Which do I do? I know some feel I do the later. I hope for most that it comes across that I'm doing the former. I try to do my bitching with with a sense of humour.

To be clear, Clay can go on Broadway again, do a talk show, take a recurring role in a TV comedy, record every couple of years and tour occasionally while spending most of his time working with National Inclusion, or blow up to the heighths of all glory with adoring multitudes and paparazzi camped on his front lawn; he can sing classics, new songs, obscure oldies, write all his own material, or never write another song. I'm along for the ride and I appreciate how cool he really is. Not transitory/popular cool, but inner cool. I trust that he knows who he is and what he wants and how to get it. I draw no lines in the sand. I'm not open to disappointments regarding what he does with his singing stardom. I just ask for more recorded music to increase his repertoire and my choices. And I'm going to get it! YAY!!!

You are a sap through and through, lol. Sometimes I think he's cool. Sometimes he frustrates the hell outta me, lol...but I still love him.

There. I've used up my sap quota for the day.

If others have a limit to what they can listen to and enjoy, that's their deal. I just don't know why we all have to suffer through hearing about it over and over and over again.

    Rutrow. :chair:

I don't always like Clay's hair (but mine looks like shit most of the time).

I don't always like his clothes (but I wear sweat pants and t-shirts so who am I to complain?).

I don't always like his song choices (but there is no song God decreeing my personal choices better than Clay's).

I don't ever feel the need to dump all over Clay for any of these totally inconsequential things.

If only some of these raging bitches felt the same.

    Rutrow again. :chair:

I'm sure I've posted this before, but I'll say it again. Awhile back at TWoP, maybe a year or so ago, a convo started about Clay on one of the threads, and a whole bunch of people posted that he had the best voice ever on AI, but they just didn't like his song choices. Trouble is, when you start reading what people think he should be singing, it runs the gamut. Hardcore fans, or casual fans, or even non-fans, every person seems to have his or her own very definite ideas about what Clay should record, and there's no agreement whatsoever as to what that is. So I think you are right on. What people want from Clay is a true jukebox, where they could just choose the songs he sings. Too bad the cost would be prohibitive, or he could just start an all requests, all the time website.

That sounds cool. Where can I get me one of those? I wanna Jukebox Clay I can stick a quarter in!

  12. So it was fan hype? Pffft. JMO...Clay should not get blamed for failing to deliver on fan hype.

    While we're discussing let's not forget ...

    Upbeat is a mood.

    Uptempo is a speed.

An uptempo song is not necessarily upbeat (WDC)

An upbeat song is not necessarily uptempo (IWCY)

    heeee :04:

OK, so I like a mix of uptempo and upbeat and slower and heart-wrenching songs OK, lol?

I'm sending this to Eva right now but here's a sample (now could you please answer my 20 questions question, please?)

    Moon River mp3 - 7MB

Scarlett -- GAH ... AWESOME ... GAH!!! Thank you ...

    Caro :listen:

Next time, warn a girl when a link isn't to a page with downloads! I left clicked on the link assuming it would open a page where I could right click/save as but wmp opened up and I went eeeeeeeeeek! and closed it faaaast, lol.

Warning! Right click/save as on the link!!!

CF, if you get me sick, I'm seriously gonna hurt you. I will hunt you down.

    :chair:

I don't know if this has been answered yet... but I am working on my photos and Clay is wearing the new National Inclusion Project pin on his lapel.

    Thanks!

Can't believe the level of hate I've been reading (mainly elsewhere) for MEAY. Who knew I had such bad taste in music? :cryingwlaughter:

I just realized what MEAY was lol. Why hate? I haven't re-listened to anything, except for when I was capping cuz I can't hear worth a damn and it's like after you go swimming and get an earful of water, except it won't go away! My speakers aren't the best and I can't stand to wear earbuds and it's freaking driving me nuts. I got a cortisone based nasal spray and another antibiotic at the walk-in tonight. Hopefully in a couple of days, I'll be actually able to hear the songs properly. From what I could hear, I liked all of the songs (cracks aside, a couple of which made cringe slightly that night). From what I could tell, both MEAY (heh) and MR were both swoonworthy. Both are beautiful songs.

I would have liked to have heard one uptempo song (AKA: faster song with a BEAT, lol) but I liked all of the songs and it was a Gala not a concert.

  13. Aw jeez. I hate questions like these. OK, big clue time. When in use, yes part of it has to be in your mouth.

The specific one that I have in mind, has only been used for decorative purposes.

Somebody count questions. I'm going to the Walk-in clinic in 10 or 15 min.

  14. hummmm.... he can suck on it....

    but not blow on it....

    hummmm.....

will it melt in his mouth?

    No.

Does something spurt out of it?

Have you (canfly) or any other member of the fandom (afayk of course) ever sucked one in public?

Re: the spurting: NO, unless you are really uncoordinated or were using it and were having a very bumpy ride! :cryingwlaughter:

Re: the sucking: OK, so don't get mislead by the sucking on it thing OK? You can suck on a pen lid for pete's sake. And it's not something you'd say you were "sucking on" if you were describing what you were doing but I had to give girlcanuck a yes or a no and it was closer to yes than no, OK?

Re: the "sucking in public" question, don't be mislead but YES to a generic version of this item. NO re: canfly sucking in public on the specific one that I'm thinking of but I'm sure YES to public sucking for some people. Yes, re: a generic version of the specific item that I have in mind. I have one and I've never used it and it's been for display purposes only but that's not to say that Clay or any of you don't have the specific one that I'm thinking of and have sucked on yours, lmao.

    Confused yet? :cryingwlaughter:
