  1. I am super excited!!! :04: I was familar with most of the 50s and 60s songs from the JBT, but your posts are making me realize there are a even more songs that I have never heard. Couchie, I agree with you about Suspicious Minds. I think his version of that is fabulous. It's one of my favorites.
  2. WOW! Well now I know what to do when I win the lottery! That site has a sweet 16 party listed as an example of a private event. And to think I was over the moon for a boom box with a cassette player when I turned 16???
  3. Fear, I am really sorry that you don't get to see your grand daughter and about the strained relationship with you DIL, and how that must affect your relationship with your son as well. I know first hand what a good person you are so the whole thing makes me so sad! I am planning to watch AI this season. I don't usually watch the auditions either but may catch some of that as well. I am interested to see the Ellen dynamic on the show, though I do not think AI will ever be what it once was. Kris Allen had a radio interview here the other day which I caught by fluke on my way to work. He was in Las Vegas singing at a computer and electronics convention and I thought that was really odd and kinda sad too. I remember the frenzy around Clay right after Idol ended and here he is singing at a convention in Vegas less than a year after winning. I would have thought he was on or planning a solo tour since his CD recently came out. The DJ had asked something about his fans and Kris more or less implied that he was singing at this convention and the people in the audience were not really "fans." Well, I have had a pretty crappy weekend! On Friday I started not feeling well and have been sick with a cold virus all weekend. The timing really sucks too because I have a busy week at work this week, including two days of annual training. Its going to be awful sitting through training all day tomorrow when my head is pounding. I have been doing the zinc thing since Fri nite so I hope it helps get over this faster. My mom's been fighting it for a couple of weeks...
  4. Sorry I am late, but wanted to give you my Congratulations Luckiest1!! I know how happy (and relieved) you must be!! YAY!! Good for you!
  5. I've never had Pavlova's but they sound yummy! I have made Meringue Cookies which sound along the same lines. I will have to try to make one at some point. I love to cook and bake when I am in the mood, and I have been known to experiment in the kitchen copying restaurant recipes or creating my own. What I don't like is the chore of having to cook when there is something else I need to be doing or when I am tired. Life definately limits the time I spend in the kitchen but when I'm in the mood my favorite thing to make is desserts. I also saw Avatar this weekend and OMG I LOVE THAT MOVIE!! I want to go see it again. The 3D is awesome because its not that cheesy in your face 3D effect that I think of when I hear 3D. But what it did do is enchance the landscape and effects in the movie making it seem very realistic. I loved the story too. Fear, sending prayers that your son gets well soon. FromClaygary, you are an excellent decorator! *g*
  6. Merry Christmas!!! My family has a Christmas tradition which I have ignored for the last 3 years but will be celebrating today. We always go to the movies on Christmas Day so in a little while we are off to see Avatar in 3D! I am so excited to see it. No matter how you are celebrating, I hope you all have a wonderful day!!
  7. ...and Dick works here... http://www.osceolastudios.com/flash/index_flash.html on Boylan Ave, in Raleigh. This morning a friend in Raleigh told me that Dick Hodgin is the one who did LWLHD with Clay.
  8. I am so sorry to hear about Ashes/Joan. I wish I had gotten to know her. Its funny to see all the answers to that Rudolph song question. When I was growing up we said "like Lincoln!" georgiesmybaby, I hope you got my text yesterday and that you had a wonderful birthday! Really missed not being able to celebrate with you in person this year. I could not ask for a better friend than you (((georgiesmybaby))) Happy Birthday, again :-)
  9. Aikim, I love all the WFI stories! In addition to the comments already said, I really think they help fuel the volunteers enthusiasm! I have a short WFI story I'd like to share. On Friday afternoon I had two volunteers scheduled for Borders. The change from one shift to the next happened when I was still at work. Unfortunately, one of the scheduled volunteers did not show up. My other volunteer, Marissa, is hearing impaired and primarily communicates using sign language. I just want to share how very proud I am of her. When the other volunteer did not show up she did not panic. She did not even text me. Instead she had a friend of hers, who is also hearing impared but hears a very small amount and does speak, come help her and translate some. I know this is "technically" against the WFI rules because he had not signed a waiver BUT in this instance I think it was very resourceful of her. The two of them worked the 4-hour shift on their own and communicated quite a bit with the public by writing things down back and forth, pointing at things, etc. At first I felt really horrible that Marissa had been left alone. Not because she was hearing impared but because I don't ever want any volunteer to feel they have been abandoned to work alone. But after I thought about it, I realized all was well. Marissa and her friend may not have been able to desciribe in audiable words what the National Inclusion Project does, but they represented the mission of full inclusion beautifully and they did an awesome job! I am so thankful to have Marissa as a volunteer and I hope her friend will join us officially next year. Luckiest1, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your friend. I did not know her but she sounds like a wonderful person. Preden, Glad your daughter is OK! annabear, Shubert is so cute :-)
  10. Wishing you good luck Luckiest1! I hope you get the job :-) I have been super swamped at my new job and with WFI. Will post a bit after I get through this week and weekend. Scarlett, I think you will do great!
  11. Scarlett, I love your enthusiasm! I agree with Couchie you should be an area coordinator next year in Houston! I feel I need to point out that there are procedures in place for having a WFI site and they need to be followed. All the information is on the National Inclusion Website, including the WFI Manual. There is a specific application for area coordinators who are responsible for planning, organizing, paperwork and the money donated, among other things. All volunteers must also sign a release of liability waiver (done online) and there are forms for volunteer sign in, total volunteer hours, daily donations, and instructions for sending in the money raised. There is also an online form to register the WFI site which is required. The Project also sent out banners, take away cards and gift tags to WFI sites earlier this month but there is an electronic version of the banner if you wanted to print something yourself for a last minute site. I do not want to discourage anyone by any means! Just wanted anyone interested to know there are specific procedures set up for the WFI project and all sites need to be coordinated per the WFI Manual and with Aron at the Project. I would be glad to answer any questions also and I am sure georgiesmybaby would as well. BTW, I have volunteers already scheduled for this Sat. in Davis, but may need some help in the evening next Saturday. If anyone is interested, let me know. I LOVED Clay's Blog!! Well Said Clay!!
  12. Scarlett, Couchie & Treenuts...I live in Sacramento which is about two hours from Union City. We don't have a WFI location in the bay area this year. We are doing a couple of weeknights in Sacramento and also Saturday's in Davis (which is about 20 min from downtown Sacramento). So far we have not gotten much in the way of donations but I have volunteers scheduled so we will see how the next couple of weeks go. I hope it improves but given the economy I am concerned. I will be done wrapping in the late afternoon Saturday and then have to meet some other volunteers to pass off some supplies for Monday. Unfortunately, the time it would take me to drive to the bay area and back again with only the weekend off from work would just be too exhausting for me. I have some health issues (Fibromyalgia) that require me to not overdo it and I am already kinda pushing the envelop as it is and have not been feeling very well lately, which is why I have to regretfully pass this time around. I would love to hang with some clay fans but need to rest when I can. I hope you will invite me another time! FromClaygary, meant to thank you yesterday for the pic of Clay in Germany!
  13. Thanks so much for thinking of me Scarlett. You are so sweet. I wish I could join you but unfortunately, its doubtful I will be able to make it because I am committed to "Wrapping for Inclusion" on the weekends until Christmas. Hopefully there will be another gathering after the holidays! luckiest1 & goldarngirl, thank you so much for the JNT05 Best of Vancouver. I have been missing Clay at Christmas! I just got a new TV during the Black Friday sales, my first LCD TV which I LOVE. Its so much clearer than my old tube TV. This weekend I hooked it up to my laptop for the first time using HDMI, so this just might be the first clack I watch on my new TV!
  14. No shopping for me tomorrow as I am working, but I am good with it because I have a bunch of stuff to get caught up & planned for next week, and nobody will be there to interrupt me. So far I love my new job but it is tons of planning and organizing and I want to get ahead of things if I can. BUT--I already did some Black Friday shopping... online... which beats the heck out of the crowds tomorrow! LOVE cybershopping!
  15. Well last year I went to NYC for Thanksgiving and saw Spamalot the day after Thanksgiving so its kinda hard to beat that... but this year its gonna rock too. Wanna know why? Cause I am home and my mama and brothers are doing all the cooking. So far they have made pies, homemade bread, and the cornbread for the stuffing. The only thing I really have to do is show up, eat and socialize. Yep... I think I can handle that. hee My mom is so excited because this is the first Thanksgiving since she retired and now because she doesn't have to work the day before, she is pulling out all the stops. Everything this year is from scratch! Unfortunately, I do have to work on Friday but I think its safe to say I don't need to worry about what to bring for lunch. LOL Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!
  16. Thank You Goldarngirl! I love it!!! I also really love your graphics Cindilu2. I think I am also gonna use them to make a rotating screen saver :-)
  17. Those screencaps are from here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8wktQQhtXQ found it at the CH
  18. OMG I loved it. He cracks me up and he is so cute!
  19. He looks wonderful! Maybe we will get lucky and someone will have taken video. *prays*
  20. I just wanted to post to those looking for work to say, DO NOT GIVE UP!! Keep at it! After 9 months I FINALLY received a really good job offer which I accepted today. When I opened the email and read it, my eyes just welled up. But now, I am so excited! I start on Nov. 16th. I decided to celebrate by making a donation to the National Inclusion Project on the last day of the America's Giving Challenge. It has been killing me not to be able to contribute, but today I was finally able to. Just after that, one of my closest friends sent me a text and when I opened it Clay was singing "On My Way Here" *sniff*
  21. I am so with you on this one. Even though we supposedly gained an hour the time change always makes me feel like crap for a good week. Plus like your dogs, my cats do not tell time. I am still struggling with them because we moved from the east coast to the west coast nine months ago so they want breakfast at 4 or 5 am as it is, and thanks to the time change yesterday they wanted breakfast at 3 am!! OMG.... I had such a headache all day yesterday from the broken sleep. Today was a little better. They didn't bug me until 5 am. And did I mention I AM NOT a morning person and sometimes have trouble falling asleep at night???? Yep, it has been a mess! lol
  22. Oh wow that would be good to know. My Dad is 62 and actually his diabetes doctor has him get the seasonal flu shot twice a year because of concerns about the flu so I guess he isn't there yet. hee
  23. Last December I was extremely ill for nearly 2 weeks with the seasonal flu. I have some health issues including Fibromyalgia and seem to catch the flu every year. I also have small sinuses so anytime I get a virus with congestion issues I go into sinus infections. Last year's flu ended up as both a sinus infection and bronchitis and I was so sick I missed Christmas entirely. The year before that I was sick through New Years. So this year I got the seasonal flu shot two weeks before the gala because I also tend to get sick when I fly, and also when I do not get enough rest. I am happy to report I did not get sick this year! The day I left Raleigh (Monday) I had a very slight sore throat and was achy which lasted about 3 days. Its hard to tell because with me it could have been me fighting a bug or it may have just been been allergies and the Fibro from exhaustion. Either way after getting a lot of sleep both cleared up. I tend to need a lot of sleep otherwise I do feel ill and well I didn't exactly get a lot of sleep during the gala trip. lol The H1N1 vaccine is only available here in the inhaled version which contains the live virus and I won't take any vaccine with a live virus because of my own health issues and because of autoimmune conditions in my genes. If we end up getting the vaccine that is a shot with the dead virus I will likely get that immunization. My brother Rob came home from summer camp in September and was sick with the flu for over a week. He eventually went into a sinus infection and ear infection. Guess that runs in the family! I was not happy with his doctor because he did not test him for H1N1 or give him Tamiflu even though he diagnosed him with the flu. Rob was really sick and we had a hard time getting him to drink for hydration, nevermind eating. Rob has developmental disabilities so its hard for him to understand he needed to swallow even though it hurt. Three weeks after he got back we received notice from the camp that the kids had all been exposed to H1N1 and that several campers had gotten it. Two of Rob's other friends also came back with the flu. We followed protocols recommeded by the CDC including staying away from Rob as much as possible. We gave him hand sanitizer and antibacterial hand wipes which he used each time he coughed, sneezed or blew his nose. We used face masks and anytime anyone cared for him, gave him food/drink/medicine, etc. we immediately washed well. Fortunately nobody else in the household caught what we are pretty sure was H1N1. This was especially important because my dad has Type II Diabetes and my mom has Rhumatoid Arthritis.
