  1. I'm working on adrenaline & fumes because I had to get up at 3am this morning to get to a boat dock on an island south of here by 5am, so although I will try not to offend I'm not sure I'll be very successful. By the week of March 6, 2009 we'd pretty much established where most of the members of this board stand with regards to Clay. That week was also characterized by much ribaldry and play-teasing, with merrieeee calling me on my sleeping with half the fandom and then in turn I sent feelers to and got rejected (sob!) by canfly. We talked a lot about whether or not we gave a hoot about some comments that we were starting to be a gay-centric board/fandom (Lol on merrieeee's explanation). So why in the world would someone join us at that time and then today, when most of us have hardly been around all week, get up and leave on a, um, let's just say eye-catching stance? I haven't seen any noteworthy news other than PH getting decked so I'm rather mystified. That said, one of my co-workers rode with me to a team-building event at the ballpark recently and when we got into my car and I started it, BYLM was on. My companion seemed pleasantly surprised and she said it sounded just like her favorite station KSBJ. I didn't recognize it at first (especially since I didn't hear the entire thing) but it turned out to be one of our local CCM stations here. I think people make that connection because one just has to listen to him to hear love and compassion and everything being a Christian is all about (or should be about!) I'm sorry that some can't hear that any longer but it is still there, more than ever, for all who will just stop, open their hearts and minds, and listen once more.
  2. Since it's a slow night let me explain just how friendly people are over here. While driving back, Scarlett's companion thinks of buying a case of bottled water. Scarlet opines: Well... that makes sense since the hotel vending machine charges over a dollar each. A case of them would cost less than $5. Scarlett's companion starts watching for store names while driving. Scarlett's companion: Winn-Dixie? Is that a grocery store? Scarlett: *refrains from rolling her eyes (well ok, maybe they don't have them in Indiana)* Yes, it is. Scarlett's companion pulls over, walks into the store, grabs a case of bottled water and goes to the checkout counter. Cashier looks at him and asks him for his Winn-Dixie card. [Notice that she doesn't ask him if he has one. She just assumes it exists. Maybe it had something to do with the cargo shorts, plaid shirt (blue this time) and flipflops] Scarlett's companion explains that he doesn't have a Winn-Dixie card. Cashier is unfazed. She explains the she just needs a phone number, anyone's phone number. Scarlett's companion patiently explains further that he's not from the area and he doesn't know anyone who lives here. Cashier doesn't see that as an insurmountable problem. She starts asking people around her for a phone number of a valid Winn-Dixie cardholder. She punches them in and finally gets a correct one! Scarlett's companion pays $4 for the case of bottled water and thanks her. Yay!
  3. Mobile Bay itself turned out to be very pleasant and it's not as hot in the Gulf as it is inland. There was a nice breeze today. And the people who work in and around town are some of the friendliest around. I'm just worried that some of the work I'm doing will result in several of them losing their jobs, and many are close to retirement. I wish there were a better way. Couchie, yay for your nephew!!! And best of luck on the final game!!! jazzgirl and aikim, I hope you get your AC back soon!!! Heading out to supper soon... the food has been quite good! Keepingfaith, thanks for the nice pictures! No one can make those clothes looks better!
  4. 103 degrees in Houston is NOT the same as 103 degrees in Alabama. *fans self like someone saying, "Oh, my Lawd!"* And who sent the memo to all 30-something guys? My travel companions are in cargo shorts and plaid shirts (one of them in red). Turns out someone was very fashion-forward! Heading out for supper... I'm sure it will be low-fat, low-calorie... have to think positive! ETA: Wasn't too bad.
  5. Congratulations again, luckiest, to you & your family!!!
  6. I had to switch on the windshield wipers as I went out on an errand but the "rain" was over quickly. I hope everyone had a nice day.
  7. Lotus, our trips are very different. I went to Hongkong knowing that I was going to bring back a lot of stuff since the bargains there are plentiful (shirts for under $5, dress clothes for $16-18, etc). I put my things in a carry-on and put the carry-on into a standard piece of luggage on the way there. Coming back, I took the carry-on out and put the loot in the regular luggage. You'll be travelling by train with many segments. I think you should pack as light as possible and be prepared to take your luggage both up and down plenty of steps. The Rick Steves books are very useful for train-travelling. For a 3-week train trip, I'd take less than I would bring to a weekend concert trip. BTW, the dryers I've used over there are smaller and don't run as hot so things that can be easily washed, hung to dry and re-used are the way to go. If you plan to use a quad-band phone, make sure you're signed up for the right international plan(s) before you leave and that you cancel them the minute you get back, e.g. international texting by the minute is horribly expensive but there are very reasonable monthly text plans you could use instead. Sometimes the phone service people don't tell you these things so you should ask. I was lucky (or probably sounded v. helpless/cute) with the AT&T folks who'd called me to say that I'd used over $300 worth of international data uploads but I could switch to a 1-month $50 plan that would easily cover my data needs for the rest of my stay AND the bandwidth I'd already used up to that point. Not everyone will let you do this, so check & sign up for what you need beforehand.
  8. Happy Father's Day to all Dads!!! Hope that all who can share this special day with their Dads/kids do!!!
  9. Aww, does anyone else think it's cute how he signs the number 3?!!
  10. Ooops, double post! ETA: BTW, I owe Clique an apology for frowning at it (virtually) everytime someone jubilantly posted that they got their OFC stuff. Turns out that mine did arrive, I just didn't know what that key in my mailbox meant -- I needed to use it to unlock another (bigger) box that had my loot! Today, I ran into my mailman and asked him what the key meant and he explained all about that then added, "It's been there a while." Clique!
  11. Oh, I went to the Farmer's Market too! I got a surprising amount of stuff for about $15 total. I need to go back soon -- next time I'll remember to swing by an ATM first. Oh, and I saw this while driving out there. Haven't seen one in years (it's more familiar from the front):
  12. I just want to hear him say "Les Misérables" again. Anything more (e.g. a skit) would be icing on the cake.
  13. Your friend will probably like it here. We try to "Keep Austin Weird" so much that we even generated a counter-movement, "Keep Austin Pretentious". This is all about inclusion! Hamsters love Clay, too! That's got to be my favorite! ... off to check out a Farmer's Market. I hope it's not too hot out there!!!
  14. Weren't there pictures or reports that he and Tyra ate at a Houston's sometime? I guess we could open a Raleigh branch but I've never actually eaten there since there are a lot of places around town with great ribs and burgers for less. I checked Google and it seems that this chain gets rave reviews everywhere but here. Maybe we can meet up at the Kirby branch sometime. ETA: Glad you got your power back, aikim; hope all the surge protectors did their jobs!
  15. It's 110 in the Shade and we need a rainmaker but I can't stay away from my plants because they're growing somehow. On topic: I want to join merrieeee and keepingfaith in their 2nd jobs. ROTFL, djs&bottle!!! (keep them coming!)
  16. It's so nice to hear some news and see some pretty pictures! Great birthday presents for couchie who deserves every one!!! Hey couchie, maybe you should declare every day to be your birthday! Didn't turn out too nice for me, though, when an easy training day turned to be an extra long one when I had to swing by the office after class. Hope tomorrow turns out much better!! djs & bottle, I'm loving all the hamster pictures. Does anyone still have the lyrics someone wrote about a pet hamster? And he's made a very interesting choice for his co-writer. I wonder what the book will be like. Can't wait to hear more about it. (lol!) *waves at ansa and tribeca* Hugs to everyone on the gala ticket & flight anxiety! Some suggestions on flight strategies: - use flyer miles if they can be returned for a minimal fee - book a somewhat expensive ticket that can be cancelled. If you find out that you need it, you can watch for a better fare and cancel the previous ticket - there's a pretty good chance of finding a decently-priced airline ticket over a 2-month period - rely on ClayNation to provide; somehow there will be people who will have unexpected events and will need to pass on their tickets; stay positive - just remember, he's so worth it!!!
  17. Wheee, pictures!!! I just knew something would turn up the night I'd be late. or as aikim would say, Love this one! Um, merrieeee... *suddenly concerned* what brand of glasses are those? The sides look rather familiar.
  18. So... those weren't x-ray vision glasses? For a minute there... *Double Rats!*
  19. 'course he could make it very easy to smut by doing one of these...
  20. Lol, treenuts! He could be writing a cookbook, a gardening non-gardening book, a christmas book, a graphic novel, a whodunit, a political manifesto, a collection of poetry, a first-aid book, a parenting guide, a travel book, ... and I bet you'd still find a way to smut every single type.
  21. Oooh a book!!! Wonder how many kinds we'll get? Hardbound, softbound, audible, kindle, ... hee, they all sound yummy! Can we hope for a book tour?
  22. Kimiye, thanks a bunch!!! (can't believe you said ****, though. )
  23. I still have the original avi, if that will help. And I do have a gif around here somewhere (might take months to find it on all these computers...). And it was wonderful seeing you and KAndre last week! So glad you could come over! Also, Mom wants your address or something... Thanks so much for having us! It was so much fun to talk to your Mom. Please send her my addies (snail and e-mail). I would love to hear from her! If you can't find the .gif we can make one off of your avi but maybe it'll turn up? *hopeful look*
