  1. Help! My Farmville animals are reading George Orwell!!! -- you want to change the way people see things, can't you also be open to other possibilities? -- i'm lucky that the idiotic things that i'm selfish about are aligned with his, well for the most part; otherwise i could be called one too -- everyone's protective of their "definition" of things, how they envision, dream them, i am too but ...
  2. Hi Claylove! Thanks for the info. Yes, that's what I meant by the bolded part in my earliest note. Good to know.
  3. Yikes, I guess no one will read this now that he blogged but please come back and check it out afterwards, 'k?!! ======================================================================= Bay area folks, help! I found 2 great opportunities at the Borders on Market street. This is easy because all you need to do is show up - Border's will provide the wrapping paper, scissors, tape, gift cards, stickers (to cover price tags) and ribbon, provide a table and chairs for gift wrappers and will also provide in-store announcements during the wFI time slot. All we need are 2 adults during the volunteer gift wrapping time and a container for donation. That's it. No hauling of supplies and things (well, a table sign and brochures would be nice), just getting there. Any donations made during our organization’s time are for WFI. Now here's the tough part -- the only time slots available are on Friday Dec. 11 and Monday Dec. 14. anytime from 10am to 5pm that we can commit to. Sorry, but the weekends are already taken and (sob!) I'm only going to be there on Sat & Sun. Is there anyone in the area who can pick this up, even for a couple of hours? It's such a good opportunity and nicely located - 845 Market St. San Francisco, CA 94103 - between Bloomingdale's and the Restaurant Collection. Anyone interested? If you can come, please comment on my FB wall or send me a direct tweet @gingerscarlett with your name, date & time available and contact info. Thanks!!! If you can call a friend so that you'll have a companion and at the same time we're guaranteed of the slot, it would be even better. If you're alone, no worries -- we'll find a match but please call already because there isn't much time. I hope we can still do it and I promise to run all the paperwork, contact persons and other fussy things. All you need to do is come and help out for an hour or two, in the company of like-minded fans whom you haven't seen in a while ---> it'll be great to meet up!!! Thanks in advance!!!
  4. Thanks for the PMs, advice and encouragement about setting up a WFI -- I'll be working the phones later to see if there's something we can put together. I do remember that with the Girl Scouts year ago in Houston, we were able to find a store that provided everything -- wrappers, table, chairs, materials and all we had to do was show up. *keeps fingers crossed* Fear, sorry about the funny PM; I was still in dreamland. Have a great day, everyone!!! And a safe one too!!!
  5. Does this mean it's too late to set up one for this weekend in the bay area? How much lead time do we usually need? Are there any requirements from the stores? Is there a minimum number of volunteers or can as few as 2 or 3 do one? Do the stores provide the wrappers? Lots of questions, I know, but I just want to know what it takes to hold one event. Thanks!!! ETA: {{{Claylove}}} (sorry to be of such a one track mind, i get like that with some projects) I hope you get some rest and yes, you definitely shouldn't try to make it this time. We will not forget to invite you again at the next event!!! Lots of warm bearhugs!!!
  6. It was nice to see the tweet as a text message -- see that's why I learned to like them. *g* I don't let my workplace send directly to my phone.
  7. *thanks Caro profusely, then weeps on her shoulder* I guess doing 85 on US 59 (when traffic clears enough to allow it) isn't very useful when you finally park the car, turn around and discover that your laptop is still at home.... Wah! "Monday got me".... But ok, I learned my lesson and will drive carefully back to work now... *sniff*
  8. Good morning FCA. Looks like our snow's gone... :nature-smiley-014: Have a great day!!! ETA: Checks the time and sees that I have to drive way above the speed limit. Wish we had an autobahn here... *crosses fingers*
  9. And for the 4th day in a row I got paged, this time from Malaysia. But again, someone from there offered to take the call and told me to go back to bed (hah!) but it was very nice of her and I'm still v. thankful about this streak. djs, I forgot to say thank you for the scrapple info. To add to that hilarious exchange, here's an article on .... ta!dah! Vegan scrapple. Yes!!! I kid you not... Link
  10. Scarlett, you are too kind! You're making me hungry and it's kind of late for me to start snacking. LOL As for WFI, it's funny you asked because I just this very moment PM'd claylove asking her where she volunteers. I have been looking to get involved but there is never one in my area that I can find. I would love if we all could make a day of that too. Besides I'm not sure you would want to drive out to where I live as it's over an hour away from the bay area. LOVE the pic of Clay and I'm keeping everything crossed that he's been working/recording in Germany Do you have any contacts, say at a store at union square or one of the malls? I think that between all of us (sorry if I'm volunteering everyone) we could do a WFI -- at the minimum with 3 of us and with some luck maybe 5-7. (Claylove, what's the usual number and process for arranging one?) I promise to stick to conventional styles of wrapping and traditional paper, really I will!!! *pinky swear* I'll also be in the area Sunday morning or afternoon, if that works better for you. About Germany, I wonder if he's tried the autobahn and if so, how fast he's gone. Hmmm, I should post these on OFC in case he starts answering questions again... EATA: OTOH, maybe people will like non-traditional wrappings. Check these out -- I brought them home last week to use as gift wrappers, and can bring them if we have a WFI:
  11. I watched several PBS specials last night, including the one from an amazing vocal group called Straight No Chaser. Of course, it is also pledge time. Anyway, the pledge levels were: $75, a copy of their latest CD; $125, a DVD of the show I watched; $175, both bundled in one package. I think when the PBS special comes around for Clay (and I feel it in my bones that it will happen), it will probably be a similar deal. And yes, I'm a total sheep and would pledge to get the bundled package, even if I already had both. Why? Because I'd love to "tell" PBS that I like Clay and would like to have more programs from him on their channel. I think it will be interesting to see how many other fans would do this. But -- I think the point of a PBS special is to get OTHER people to appreciate Clay, and I think that would work spectacularly. JMO of course. Yes, that smile just lights up the place!!! I guess my reference point with PBS is rather old -- they used to have sweatshirts and signed items but i guess times are different now. I'd still get the bundle as well -- always good to do 2 things at the same time: make sure my PBS station stays around for a long time and get some real Clack with real printed pictures (oh, now I'll want two! *sob*) ETA: {{{ausdon}}} and {{{Anna}}} (sorry to have missed you the first time, Anna!) to you both!!! ETAA: treenuts, claylove mentioned WFI at her place and I wonder if there is one going on your area on Saturday? We could meet there, help out and then have dinner. Oh, and you still want your Mamon Tostado sample, right? I'll bring some Texas apple butter too (not the Philly one, this is from New Braunfels).
  12. It's a toasted cake that keeps well. I think you basically make some sort of butter or chiffon cake, but not as sweet as the usual ones. Then I guess you toast it in a slow oven. When I read about lembas in "The Lord of the Rings" this is what I imagined it to be like. Some examples... Brand A... and my usual Brand You probably have stores that carry it in Northern California, certainly in Daly City. If you'll meet with Couchie and me next weekend, I'll bring some. ps. You always find the best pictures -- thanks for the gorgeous one above! Oh I see now, thanks. It's a toasted cake and not what I imagined as a mexican tostada. LOL Ah the difference a vowel can make. I can definitly see how apple butter would be delicious on this. And thanks for the invite. I would lLOVE to finally meet up with some of the folks from the board here. I will really look at trying to make it happen. Would next Saturday late afternoon/evening work? A PM would be fine. Oh, I think that schedule would work great. Couchie, how about you? Anyone else in the area? I know that claylove is several hours away but hopefully if she sees this and is free, maybe she can make it as well. Still can't get over how nice he sounds while both singing and speaking at the gala.

  14. Oh, you meant the gala files. I will leave the machine rendering tonight and will be uploading clips tomorrow, from the start (unless you want them in a particular order -- do you?) Nope I haven't started them at all, was waiting for you and LauraQ, so in order is perfect, thank you. Starting to post large continuous audio files here: (if you're canfly, right-click-and-save) 091017_NIP_Gala_Scarlett_Audio01.mp3 67MB 091017_NIP_Gala_Scarlett_Audio02.mp3 67MB 091017_NIP_Gala_Scarlett_Audio03.mp3 138MB One of my favorites, after MR and the other songs, is listening to his voice-over on the videos... *sigh* ETA: While I'm here can I just post a short rant... I so wanted to get to church on time today (unintentional quote) because we're hosting one of the Houston mayoral candidates and I wanted to meet her, but I took a short nap when my network was flaky this am *tosses a frown at Uverse* and slept too long. I guess it would look disrespectful to arrive 10 minutes before closing? Oh, and thank goodness the Philippine COMELEC has nothing to do with this. I'd normally add a short explanation saying that our Commission on Elections is a political body that... but with the way it's been acting like the CBCP (Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines) lately, I don't even know what it is anymore. - end of rant
  15. Heeee......I was born in Philly - it is best to just not question that stuff - and do you know how to pronounce Skuykill, as in the beautiful Skuykill River that runs through parts of the city? Skookle. I think it is just remnants of English, Welsh, and Dutch settlers. I am Welsh, and it cracks me up to see a Welsh road sign and then listen to how it is pronounced. I was happy to see that Clay likes apple butter, it is, I think, a Pennsylvania Dutch thing. But prolly is available anywhere apples are a crop, and it was nice to see Mott's Apple Butter in jars when I first moved away from Philly. Sniff. Have you tried scrapple? Hmmmm....best to think of it as pate, really! Fabulous cut into slices and fried crispy on the outside, and it is the only food that I will put ketchup on. I do see frozen Habbersett's Scrapple sometimes in grocery stores here in Florida. Skookle? Lol! Now you've got me so curious about scrapple -- would Whole Foods or a similar store have it? Good thing breakfast's already cooking or I'd drive out to look for it.
  16. Oh, you meant the gala files. I will leave the machine rendering tonight and will be uploading clips tomorrow, from the start (unless you want them in a particular order -- do you?) ausdon, glad to see you back! ... about the PBS special, I wonder if they'll get smart and offer the DVD for pledge week, e.g. for a $50 pledge. That'll be tremendous exposure but at the same time it would also help PBS with its fund-raising. They usually add an item to the DVD for a somewhat higher pledge (e.g. $100) and 2 or more items for an even higher pledge (e.g. $200-$250) -- wonder what those items could be? what would entice YOU (or people you know in the fandom) to go for the higher pledge amounts? Me, I know we have a great PBS station here and would support it even without Clay so any small item would be enough for me -- maybe a stuffed toy or a signed program.
  17. Just discovered what a great breakfast combination mamon tostado and apple butter (thanks Clay!) make. Now the fact that I discovered this after 10pm might make it seem a lot more like a midnight snack than breakfast but it's still good. Yum! *rubs tummy* I never had any (apple butter) until Clay talked about it. I got this one from the Reading Terminal Market in Philly and it's wonderful! Why do they write it that way when it's pronounced "redding"? ETA: No matter how great it may sound, it is NOT a brilliant idea to pile the apple butter higher than the initial height of the mamon tostado. Just sayin'!
  18. icy cold, but still on the road that leads to you gladly treading on
  19. Yay for the Clayversion. I think we should just walk around playing these songs out loud. I was so tired of the techno-sounding Christmas music that people in Hong Kong seemed to like. Too jarring, not Christmasy at all -- almost as if the songs were trying to cover up their being about Christmas so as not to make the listeners aware or uncomfortable. *shakes head* Oh that bath sounds nice!!! HBD, Thankful4Clay!!!
  20. Go for it! *sniff* Well, Caro, that did it! I miss him so much at this time of year... Yes... miss him most at Christmastime because no one sings Christmas songs like Clay Aiken!
  21. "His heart's big enough for the whole world" <insert appropriate 2nd line, treenuts? ...>
  22. Snow is good when visiting, eg. Waukegan 2006 the day after the blizzard. everything so white and clean. Today in the gulf, not so good -- a large city w/o snow & ice equipment and a huge part of the populated can't drive on ice. Probably don't know what a snow brush is (I add knowingly/smugly). I got leave to work from home but I'm really working, about twice a normal workload because I'm more involved in the safety, emergency prepareness & logistics systems. Glad to hear from keepingfaith that they were given the day off. Hope everyone else is home. ETA: Thanks Caro!!!
  23. OT: Never fails, soulsista4clay... just received another page... *shakes head* On topic: ETA: Looks like we're going to get some weather today!!! ETAA: It really doesn't look good. Everyone affected by the unusual (e.g. for Houston) weather, keep safe and warm!
  24. It was fun when we visited with YSRN last year at the Cambodian place near her house. Does she still log on here? I don't think so but I can definitely contact her. Also my lurker buddy will be thrilled to see you if she is open. It would be great to see them both!!! When we know who can make it, we can find a place that's central or convenient for everyone. If it's possible, I'd like to try the subway. ETA: soulsista4clay? i got paged, where are you? *g*
