  1. I'm proud of the way Clay doesn't just ignore, he refuses to give them any power over his life. He hires, associates, makes friends with whomever he chooses. He speaks out frankly on things that are important to him; he is candid and open on stage, uncaring of whether he or others could get him into an embarassing situation (what if during his pre-Classics banter of "YOu may have heard this on the radio or whispered by your friend. I'm... I'm...I'm" some idiot who had somehow gotten into the venue had finished the sentence for him? 'course the creep probably wouldn't have made it out of there with all limbs intact, Claymates being what they are) What I'm trying to say is that a lot of people react to nasty stuff by being very protective of themselves. Clay just goes happily into the world, seemingly untouched by these.

Live, love and enjoy life, and go about his own business as usual. This imo is the best weapon of all -- and it might just drive the creeps to beat themselves to death in frustration.

  2. Hey Nelle! We just had the 1 year anniversary of our Canada roadtrip!!! (need to do that again someday)

:F_05BL17blowkiss: jamar1700, YSRN, Couchie, <nodnods> I think he's the type who can be happy both with and without other people. Just wanted to play devil's advocate because I find it annoying that some fans try to set up standards for every aspect of his life.

ETA: jamar, the "set up standards" part wasn't about your post nor anyone here at FCA. And btw, if I had to guess on what he's like ITA with you & ysrn & couchie on this.

Since I was late.... here's what would have been my response to the earlier items:

To call my fandom correctly you need to know me -- I'm either not into something or I'm enthusiastic about it. I learned to knit last year but I don't just knit, I'm also learning to dye and spin and weave. I would love to have windstar2's spread to raise and shear my own sheep. I don't just send a check to things that are important to me, I drive over 50 miles to volunteer and make sure the projects I support get done. Even sampling food from regional establishments which I can rightly call "just a hobby", is, er, somewhat intense (ask KAndre about White Castle and In-n-Out). Coasters? Cameras? Computers? I'm addicted to life and Clay is a big part of it.

I have to add, though, that I get it all back. Many, many times over. Running throught a short list...

Did I meet good people throught Clay? Check.

Did I learn new skills? Check

Did I broaden my knowledge? Check

Did I enjoy the ride so far? Check

    Amd I happier? Check.

Blowtorched puppy. This isn't easy to anwer. If I found out that Clay isn't what we think we know him to be or if he were a Jekyll/Hyde sort, I'd be so intrigued at how he planned and executed this entire production that I'd still be fan. (eg. I wasn't disappointed in lonelygirl15; I wished I had done it first). With Adobe photoshop and premiere, I'm not trustful of anything 2nd hand so I'd have to be standing right there and watching him do something cruel to people who couldn't fight back to call it a blowtorched puppy.

  3. Yeah, Clay happy is a good thing... I happen to think that a relationship isn't the only way to be happy though, so I don't really feel the need to see him fulfill that particular part of life. If that's what he wants though, I hope he gets it.

AMEN! Maybe that's why I feel the way I do about it? Tell people your alone and they assume your lonely.

And really...me, not so much. :RedGuy:

I hope Clay finds his happy place too.

This is all ok if Clay's the sort who could be alone a lot and happy too. And maybe he is.

If he isn't, though, it would be excruciating, eg. if he's really just a regular guy who wants to be lonely no more, whose compass just points to someone with a large enough pair of twins to have twins with? What if his criteria are totally at odds with a fan-imagined "Mother Teresa-Princess Diana-Amelia Earhart-Muski'sAmelia-and-every girl-next-door" all rolled into one?

    Thanks for the explanations, KAndre!

  4. It seems to me that so many people in Clay's life have been the subject of fan accusation. Faye has been demonized as either a bad mother who let her son be victimized by her husband, or a smothering woman who imposes undue influence upon him. Kelly has been accused of being a phony friend by people who have never met her. Angela and Quiana are occasionally targeted as being too presumptuous in their interactions with Clay. Suzanne, Jaymes, even Jerome have been the subject of nasty fan posts. If these people can be treated with such disrespect, I can only imagine what it would be like for someone with a romantic relationship with him.

'cause no one's good enough for Clay. Sometimes, even Clay's not good enough for Clay!

  5. However, if he were with someone, I would actually hope that he could keep it a secret for a while, because the fans would be brutal. As much as people want him to happy, I think jealousy would make it very hard on whoever he was with, no matter how perfect she might be.
    Word.

I can only imagine that it would take a special kind of person to let the comments and criticism just roll off her back. A thick skin is one thing, but I think it would still get to most people.

Seems like a really tall order -- someone with qualities he actually likes and is approved by his friends and family and is able to deal with both his celebrity and his fandom and is liked by Raleigh and Durham (maybe that should have been at the top?). What are the odds?

  6. Clay doesn't seem like the kind of guy who forgets your name after a 5 year relationship so he's safe. The cellcert got eaten so some of y'all don't know how I ended up slapping Scarlett upside the head. When Clay asked her who was sitting next to her, she had this blank expression on her face. It was clear to me and PerusingOne that she couldn't remember our names. If someone had offered her a million dollars to name us correctly, she couldn't have done it. PerusingOne starts saying my name under her breath and through clenched teeth because Scarlett is about a second away from telling Clay that she has never seen these people before in her entire life. Apparently, Scarlett didn't hear her and blurts out "Solo". I have a couple of brothers and whenever they say something stupid or something they shouldn't say, I slap them on the arm. Scarlett was of course holding the camera in her hands and I didn't want the Clack to skip around so when I instinctively slapped her, I got her on the head. The rest is history.

Hee. I forgot the cert got eaten... I heard every word tho and it was funny as hell!

Solo, Clay's supposed to think you're mostly harmless because you hit other people without thinking but you're not likely to hit Clay himself, so that's ok. Makes perfect sense. And all his fans who treat each other terribly, say nastly things about each other, call each other names are actually the nicest people on earth because they would never do that to Clay, just to each other. Uh-huh. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

  7. ETA: *whispers Waukegan enticingly* to Solo below... c'mon do it already before he says "Bug Spray" and save yourself some scrambling for rafter seats.

Oh hell to the no. It's taken me 5 tours but I've finally caught on to her evil enabling ways. What she's really pushing is Waukegan and Kalamazoo. Once I agree to one concert, she points out how convenient it would be to go to the next concert since I'm in the area already. That's how I ended up driving a bottle of ice wine through 6 states this summer. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

All kidding aside, I would love to do it but can't really swing it with the holidays and hopefully a 2008 Summer Tour on the horizon. But I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the 5 concerts I am attending.

*sigh* Ok, you can stop hiding now. They're all spoken for. But couldja buy me a ticket for Williamsport??!

Oh btw, I think he'll change up the JNT format and you'll be sorree....

  8. Congratulations on your fine grandson, CC and HBD, ldyjocelyn!!!

Yay, I still haven't changed some money I brought home from Canada!

*holds Toots tightly* I hope it all gets sorted out quickly. No food stuff for you today, but (will post this because it's been days) some board posted that the cute guy had Japanese at the same time couchie did. See, they have a connekshun and because you love sushi so do you!

  9. couchie, yay for unagi and maguro/toro! Glad you liked them -- maybe we can have some during during the JNT07 roadtrip? Unagi's the way I introduce friends to sushi because it's fully cooked and it looks & tastes just like grilled fish nuggets in terriyaki sauce. Sometimes I make a full make a full meal of unagi over steamed rice. Ok, enough about food.

ialreadyam, that was an earnest offer. I wasn't teasing. Also, other people have been able to make DVD's of XviDs, you might want to post a question on a techie thread. I know that the bitrate for these clips are a lot higher than usual so it'll help to have a dual core cpu and at least 2GB RAM.

rcknrllmom, I got an extra one yesterday. No worries, PM me.

jmh123, I'm glad to have sparked things again, though I must admit I"m a bit overwhelmed by everything you PM'ed. To me it was mostly -- Ooooh, how pretty! I need to go back and see it again before answering your questions since it was mostly a blur and the main exhibit (I only saw a preview) should have much more. Will be happy to go back to Shanghai as a sidetrip to Clay's Asian tour someday. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

KAndre, it a pretty day to me and I'll be at Microsoft today instead of at the office so yay!!! (Checks iphone/pod battery...)

  10. do you all eat Philbert after the ceremony?
    Sadly, he was bronzed.

Waaaait a minute - y'all dragged that bottle of ice wine all over upstate New York - and WE drank it in NYC! With some more mac 'n cheese. and dessert. And yes, this was right after we had dinner.

And she forgot to mention that that was their SECOND hit on Reading Market - because we got the Philly cheesesteaks (sans bread - those Philly people are strange) and chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate cover almonds (to die for) and chocolate coconut things and something else chocolate covered that I ate in the car and the first cherries and I swear to god home grown tomatoes and then they took me to the airport and told me they would just get the wings for breakfast.

Y'all might get the impression we eat a lot.

That's because we do. We have to keep our strength up in case Clay needs to come to our hotel room. That's our story.

Which reminds me, where's that recap? I think our deal was that I'd put up the clips of the shows you've recapped. *heh, now I have an excuse* :medium-smiley-070:

Clay certainly looked yummy on Leno that night but his head looked too big for his slim beautiful body. I almost think he looks better now with the big shoulders, the cute butt, the BHC! Well shit, he looks good no matter what he does, he's just so cute.
Clay's head look perfect to me ... but Jay Leno's head looks oversized, to say the least.
Oh...... you meant that head. Oh.

Carolina Clay, I'm leaving, I'm leaving. Really I am. You guys are as addictive as Clay Aiken. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

  11. I did read a few pages of the "trivial" stuff going on, and didn't scroll through everything. So I'll contribute. Ice cream? Well, Blue Bell is good but my favorite brand, in my area, is Yarnells. They also have a blackberry cobbler. http://www.yarnells.com/products/yicc_product_homepage.php One of my favorites is Death By Chocolate. I only buy their ice cream when it is on sale. It runs about $4.00 or a little over for a 1/2 gallon. Mainly I buy Wells Blue Bunny. http://www.bluebunny.com/main.aspx?topcategory=1 Preferably Bunny Tracks & Peanut Butter Panic. They also have specialty "designer" ones they do during Summer. My favorite of these is their White Chocolate Almond Divinity. It is divine. On rare occasion I like to buy Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey. Which is a banana with walnuts and chocolate chunk concoction that is wonderful. I did make lime jello yesterday. I like to put drained canned pears in with my lime jello. I also like to take cottage cheese and put it into pear halves and serve as a type of salad.
Another ice cream I loved this year was Bassett's. My best friend (whom Clay caught staring at his crotch way back at the Roanoke catwalk) took me on a East coast food crawl for my birthday and these are some pics - no Waldo or BigRed here (tm:bookwhore, would that be be Big or Red for short? Need I ask?), non-foodies move along:

The Reading Terminal Market is awesome! I loved Bassett's Moose Tracks ice cream.(no that wasn't literal, Toots) The chocolates were to die for. We walked around and tasted many things, then we sat down with the best loot (these don't necessarily go together but individually, they're wonderful): 3 lbs of Ranier cherries (only 1 lb is in view), fresh lemonade, jumbo chocolate-covered strawberries (the box could only hold 4, half dark half white chocolate), the best bbq wings we've tasted (and we're from Texas) and a totally sublime pint of Mac'nCheese. I even had 3 pictures taken with the local celebrity pig, Philbert, who raises funds for the Food Trust. We had to walk it off in the city afterwards.

The next day we hit Dinosaur Barbeque. I loved the easy-going atmosphere. It seemed like graffiti was allowed, even encouraged, so my friend decided to participate. Didn't she pick the perfect location for it?

The day after that, we went ice wine-shopping in the Finger Lakes region. Sadly, KAndre drank it up before we could take a picture.

  12. Totally understandable, Scarlett. I'll bet that was a really difficult time for you. And of course I didn't know the story when I made my post above. I hope you don't think I was directing anything at you. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

Thanks v. much! I didn't think that but it's v. sweet of you to check. *sighs in contentment at being with so many nice people*

BTW, we talked about sad songs recently. But when I'm really, really, sad or stressed or worried, listening to Clay is the best thing in the whole world.

  13. And for everyone else...just out of curiosity, what would you forgo a Clay concert for (funerals of immediate family members excluded).

funerals.... let me explain.... I had to travel out of the country for my Dad's funeral. I found out that he had passed away at midnight thursday. I tried to get a flight out on friday and but needed papers from the LA embassy to travel, so I had to wait in or close to LA until monday. I needed a hotel room. I already had one paid for 2 nights. The hotel was in Las Vegas. The cancellation period had passed. I booked it because I had planned to go to the Vegas IT that weekend, a 3-hour drive out of LA....

  14. just so you know, that Tampa TWYMMF is pretty hot
Ok, ok, off to work on it now. I just swung by because I was out all last night (no, not Montrose. The Houston Museum of Natural Science had a preview of a new exhibit from the Shanghai Museum) and I was out looking for sock yarn today so now's my only time to catch up with all the fun stuff you guys have been posting.

I want to stay and talk about dark chocolate (my favorite is Leonidas -- just as good as Godiva and you get twice as much for your money) and how I love BlueBell Homemade Vanilla ice cream (they even made a version with peaches mixed in, just for Clay?), and that lilyshine's tractor is v. sexy and that her place looks so pretty I'd love to move in with her, and that I don't have a backyard but will find something for him to ride anway, and tell bookwhore that "Harder! Harder! Faster! Faster!" Followed by "Gimmee more!" would make a nifty thread title and what do we have vitamins for is we still need to eat vegetables? and I know someone mentioned coasters but I can't find the first post and besides I just saw KAndre's missive about uploading the rest of Knoxville so I'd better stop here before someone brings up that spanking emoticon again.

ps. it wasn't a double entendre but he sure found every way to talk about but not actually say how much he enjoyed being able to get Angela and Quiana to entertain him aurally anytime.

Gibby...BWAH...I keep imagining scarlett holding miniturized solo...and giving this eeeevil..BWAH HAHAHA!!!

    hee

The best thing about being a dark chocolate lover...no one else in the family likes it so I can have a whole bar to myself...oh another favorite...dark chocolate toblerone...mmmm

Ahhh, Toblerone! And it's also my favorite cheescake at The Cheesecake factory. BTW, ansa I had goat caldereta for lunch today. Another one to add to your list. *winks* (Oh Hi, Toots! Didn't see ya there. Don't worry, I'll put the translation in spoiler tags..... I... Oh.... Well... I guess it's too late because the first word says it all. Heee!)

pps. That TBAF sale for 24-disk CD/DVD case for $2 is very timely. I'm making it my goal to create enough DVD's to fill it up and will find a way for everyone here who buys one this weekend to get hers filled up too. PM if you got one. (uh, with Clack from JBT forward)

ppss. Hey kimiye! Great to see you here. I was just thinking about and missing you... (blame KAndre)

  15. Scarlett, I think if he wrote it, it doesn't count as a cover. And yes, Clay's was good - but Boyz II Men rule on that. And we will blame Jacob since he's now your ex-boyfriend. Heh.

Trying to get my act together for the Sedaka thingie...family is not cooperating...

Oh, he wrote it? *hides face*

But you hafta go to Sedaka *shakes KAndre back and forth* Must go!!! And we'll go see Fanty the day after too -- we can stalk diva and hubby. Say you're gonna! *scrunches up face like I'd just tasted the sourest vinegar in the world* Can I say 'Hell NO' to your family thing for you? I need some practice with people who don't actually know me..... thinks about that for a minute, are the rest of your family shy and introverted too?

ETA: Looks about me in horror! Why didn't I just edit my last post???!

  16. Babyface? Squeeee! But, but but where's "End of the Road"???!!! That is the one song I've heard live [whispers] and thought it was better than Clay's version [/whisper] Too bad I didn't dare to video it because Clay was coming after and I didn't want my camera taken away so early. "End of the Road" was and still is one of my favorite ever songs from the JBT -- I once drove all the way to the office winding & rewinding that part of the 90's -- but when I heard Babyface at the Vancouver Gala it totally blew me away!!! .............'course I can always blame Jacob.
