Ansa I think we are mostly in agreement then. I think the fact that Clay can sing a country song, a folk type song, a soul song, a blues song a broadway tune and add in pop and pop rock is what sets him apart from most of the young male singers these days. Sure, a lot of them write songs, but are they good songs? Take that "Beautiful" by James Blunt how many different words are actually in that song anyway? Radio ate that up. John Mayer, maybe if I bought his album I would like it, but from the few songs of his that I've heard I doubt it. Can you imagine what Simon would have said about the faces he makes when he sings, plus he sounds nasally to me. My point, I think I had one is, can you imagine any of the current crop of male pop singers having the stylistic range that Clay has? Maybe it's his Achiles (sp) heel, who knows. I just know his abiltiy to sing just about anything is one of things I love about him.

Oh, Lordy, I'm on a roll! Clayverted my hotel contact and now I've got my chiropractor wanting to look him up and find his music and learn more about him! HEEEE! I wore my black "Invisible/Clay Aiken 2004" tee shirt (with the solo tour dates on the back and the outline of him and Raleigh on the back) and she asked who Clay Aiken was...

puh-leeze

So my chiropractic visit was extended a bit....she's a cool French woman and by the time I left her office she was almost a bona fide member of (dare I say it? ) the CLAYNATION! I made another appt for tomorrow to work on this sciatica and told her I might just have a little present for her...gonna put together a little CD of key appearances/performances of Clay's from the Atlanta audition to the Kimmel appearance and concert....

Man! By the time Clay DOES come to my neck of the woods, my 'homies' and I are gonna buy up a whole section of tickets at the arena!

Oh, and speaking of a gorgeous mouth....

tummy-1.jpg

Whoops! Wrong pic....heh...

sing.gif

Yikes! Not a mouth at all! (Although MY mouth would like to...STOP it, MUSKI! )

JBTAtlanticCityWDC2.jpg

Dang it! I think my clicker is stuck on my mouse!

Waldo3test-1.jpg

Ok, this is getting embarrassing... I'm sorry, y'all....I'll find it...

Clay_lips_1.jpg

Well, this isn't the one I was looking for, but I'm getting closer...(I wish)

Lips.jpg

Yeah.....yeah....that's the one.... ;)

Yup I totally agree...I do think that its because he cannot be boxed that he is having a hard time getting a lot of acceptance with some sectors in the industry. Like I remember the rolling stones review saying he stripped away the soul from EYGA...yeas he did because he decided to change the presentation of that song. It was a concious choice on Clay;s part. Now these reviewers just think he cannot do it, that he simply has no soul...they think this is all Clay is, but thats not true... he certainly can give a more soulful rendition if he chose to...he just didn;t want to sing it the way paul young did...So instead of praising him for making the song his own they compain it didn't have soul. sigh.

Because Clay is so unique ...I know he will never have an easy road in the industry...I have accepted that...I am jsut happy to hear him sing pretty, pretty songs.

GAH...can;t wait for this EP...I wonder if he changed up Christmas Waltz??? I hope MGUCL is like GMA...and so curious about all is well...I think this will be this years GN...

Here's a shocker.

Britney Spears is getting a divorce!

Gee, and I thought that marriage would last forever!

NOOO say it aint so...heh...I just heard from one of the boys in the grade 8 class that she is pregnant again...I think he was behind in his news...heh

well just as I write my boring post...muski posts....porn!!! shocking!!!!!

eta:: looked at the porn again...cos...I just wanna :D anyway...all I gotta say....I'M A BELIEVER!!!!

Yeah, this is me too. Almost everyone likes boxes -- it just makes everything easier to categorize, much of the time. And I have to admit I'm like that with so many things in my life. What I love about Clay is that he stands up for his right to NOT be boxed by anyone -- his record label, his fans, anyone. Therefore, his road could be tough (and honestly, it could be why we're seeing what we're seeing regarding promotion...but we'll never know...), but as long as he stands up for what he believes in, and sings for me, and appears on TV, and is HAPPY with his life, I'm a happy camper!

I'm dying to hear this EP! New music from Clay!

I'd call that an afternoon delight, personally. I'm not a particular Waldo watcher...but sometimes it's just hard (heh) to ignore.

Yes, I have always believed that Clay's uniqueness and flexibility are both strengths and liabilities. They are strengths, because they set him apart and make him memorable. They are liabilities, though, because they make him much harder to pigeonhole and market. You can't just plug him into the existing frameworks set up for your standard country/rock/pop/R&P act. You have to be a little more creative, and though I'm not one of the "Clive is the devil" torch bearers, I sometimes wonder whether enough people at his label truly understand his appeal.

I was impressed by Clay's country sound in "I'm Not Supposed To Love You Anymore," and I sometimes think that if he released a country song under an assumed name, a lot of people wouldn't be able to guess it was him. I'd bet most non-fans don't really remember "deep voiced" Clay because so much of his more recent work focuses on his upper register. However, I do believe he could capture that typical "country" sound without much difficulty. The fact that he includes so little country music in his concerts, however, makes me think that for whatever reason, he's not interested in pursuing that genre at this time.

I, too, am intrigued and excited by this upcoming Christmas EP. I think it will be amazing.

I think Clay has a little country in his voice, he has a little rock and roll as well - but NOOOOOO, never sing that song Clay.

You know staying outside for a little inme really wears a non-athlete out. kudos to the people who can run marathons, it won't be me, and it won't be Clay anytime soon as well! EEEE I found YET another con-nec-tion with Clay.

FOrgpt my emoticon a day headphones6.gif That would be me listening to CLay - see the smile on the ball face?

I have been drinking a.... KAndre picks up the bottle and looks at it... very good Cavit collection Pinot Grigio from 2003 which makes one really wobbly...but determined to demonstrate that drunken posting can be quite literate...or at least look that way from a drunken perspective...

Country singing? WYSYLM is one of my favorite songs...country honest to goodness is not necessarily the twanging thingamabob...though Randy Travis' Forever and Ever Amen is my favorite country song of all time and he is decidedly nasally...it's the sincerity that comes through for me...and the self-depreciating humor...the multi-layering of emotion is what I love about these genres...WYSYLM is full of that...Soul (and country) for me is about the faint underlying desperation...Clay's IYDKMBN is full of false bravado, just like Al Green's For The Good Times...straight-forward rock is just occasionally so...shallow. Clay for me does that layered thing so well....

You know, all this talk about how Clay can sing any style being both a blessing and a curse and the labels etc. not knowing what to do with him etc, reminds me of what Gladys Knight, woman of good taste that she is, said on "Movie" night during AI2.

To refresh your memories, he sang "Somewhere Out There" and after giving him a standing ovation Gladys Knight said, and I quote,

You are a mystery.

You have your own look.

There is something very magical about your look (as audience members shout "Sexy").

And your voice is so pure.

I don't know in the contemporary world what is going to happen for you but something exceptional is going to happen for you somewhere along the way because

you're pure. You're wonderful.

She recognized that he was unique and different and didn't fit into any box in the contemporary world. And she also recognized that he was so magical and his voice so beautiful that somewhere, sometime, something exceptional would happen for him.

Clay has only just begun. He has yet to reach that exceptional place. He is amazing and the best is yet to come.

If you want to relive that night, here's a YSI for it.

Enjoy!

Yeah, CG...I remember Gladys Knight's words...and I remember thinking...."She GETS him....and she's a respected veteran of the music business....and she GETS him." and I almost cried at her words and Clay's reaction to them...

Hey, does anyone know where I can get a YouSendIt or some download of the Kimmel Pontiac Garage "Invisible"? The whole thing? I have ATD but somehow missed Invisible...

Also, which Without You was the best on TV? I can't remember that--was it GMA? or did he sing it on The View?

AARGGH! I'm starting to worry myself with the memory lapses here... :(:unsure:

Its in the CV vault and likely at Clack Unlimited. I could do a YSI of it but you probably can find it there faster!

ETA: Does anyone have the Walmart soundcheck videos anywhere? Surely someone in the Clay Nation ripped them for posterity!

ETA2: I forgot your WY question. he sang it on GMA and Leno and I think that's it. I liked it best on GMA.

JK Invisible (YouSendIt)

muski, I think the consensus of the Clay fandom (HA! Like that happens...) was that the View WY was the best one. I included it on a DVD for a coworker, and she was falling all over herself.

Ah yes, Gladys Knight. That really was a memorable night in AI lore, and she was a key guest. First of all, she provided Ruben with his nickname for the year by calling him the velvet teddy bear. But what she called Clay? Simply magical. That was truly special. I wonder if she recalls that event as fondly as us fans do?

ETA: Heh, see the fandom can't agree. I thought the View WY was better than GMA, by far. Anyone else want to chime in?

You won't get an official download from the Pontiac Garage untilt he video is retired. They want people to give Clay hits. We are so spoiled with having clack, we don't really give these sites much play. I did about a dozen plays of wthout you on AOL today, sort of a mea culpa for not doing enough voting. ETA no sooner do I say that, then it appears - never mind.

The nice thing aobout doing plays on AOL, if you start with Mary Did you know, it will cycle through all of Clay's videos. You can turn the sound off and listen to what every you want at the same time. If Clay gets enought spins on AOL he will appear on their list of favorite videos and others will see and play it. Plus someone is tracking how many times videos are played on-line for some sort of radio play stuff, and I am sure that AOL is one of the ones being tracked. So if you have a little time and want to spend it on the computer, it is a good thing to do. I ran it while I was walking my dog.

Play do you have a handy link We can bookmark???

As to the GMA or The View WY...sigh...I had to go back and watch both clips cos I knda forgot...the things I do for this fandom.....anyway, I definitely think the view is the best WY evah....In GMA he was a bit tentative and there was a bit of crack in his voice...The view was super smooth...perfection really. The only thing I hate about the view...is their shot of him between the string players...looks too busy...I don;t need any distraction from Clay...

So my pick...The View WY...definitely.

OOOh love what Glady's said. Actually I thought Paula was also very perceptive about Clay...the things she told him on gr 2 and the wildcard was spot on...

Clay was pretty high on this list until people moved on.

I have to go and visit his myspace and play everything as well

Here is a link to Clayboard where there are all the streaming sites.

We have to remember to write reviews on Amazon (Did it) and a few other sites. PM me for them only if you are going to be positive. must clean out PMs again, they fill up fast!

Sniff... omg I'm having a blast making my first montage. Three of my favorites things...Clay's voice and my beautiful nephew and neice.

And then I'm in sort of a cloud because Muski called me trying to tak me into a Clay Christmas concert. Such a bad influence. It's working though. A definite no has turned into a definite why not.

A crossover song, I could live with, but just country???

Loved all the convo regarding this. I wouldn't consider myself a country fan but when I watched that special Kim Locke was on regarding the top 100 country songs...I knew 90 of them...not just familiar with them but could sing along. After watching Walk the Line I find myself listening to Johnny Cash now and then on the ipod and there are quite a few country stars that I like. The thing about Clay is that he makes me like whatever he sings. No matter what it is... he makes me like it. How does he do that.

OK accept that Heros song. heee.

I read that Faith Hill was clowning around and said WHAT???? into the cameras when Carrie won best vocalist last night - and now she is country's answer to kanye west.

On the PR front, Carrie couldn't have asked for anything more...poor Faith.

GAH...can;t wait for this EP...I wonder if he changed up Christmas Waltz??? I hope MGUCL is like GMA...and so curious about all is well...I think this will be this years GN...

Me neither..I'm very excited about this and it will make a great stocking stuffer. hee.

media fiends asked for questions to ask Clay then they just posted the "article" and I use that word lightly. Seems taht the writer who decided she did not like Clay this summer, before the article, did not get al her questions answered and had to wait a while. This despite that she submitted it on album release day. So now she really rants on how he does not like his fan. typical hater rant. I really feel sorry for posting for people to ask questions, If she had no qquestions, she would have had to make up her own and have a rant to an empty house.

I sent you guys there to ask questions. Not it is a hater rant site. Just so much crap and Clay even wasted his time reponding to this bitch.
