BWAH, Aspiegirl! That was funny.

I really enjoyed your most recent montage! I have enjoyed all of your montages. You included some of my Wichita jazzy medley clack in your last montage, and it was fun to see how you incorporated it!

Hey Kathy!! :helloogreen: So happy that you are working with kids with autism. This might sound like a stupid question, but I wonder--is it harder or easier for someone with high-functioning autism to work with kids with autism? Maybe both?

Not a stupid question at all. I think its easier because I can catch some things the teachers miss. Like a girl crying at the YMCA. They think it was her being sort of bratty. I could tell right away it was the noises. Kids screaming, balls bouncing and the echos. I know of the hypersensitive issues. I used to hate gyms for the same reason but can tune out that stuff today. Even at my first Clay concert, I cried when everyone screamed. I did not handle all that noise but once I knew what to expect, I could "brace" for it.

I have more patience because I know many "behaviors" have causes and are not just kids "choosing" to act out. Also they do not get on my nerves. Some people have little patience and if a kid pushes them away (or to really push them) kind of thing, they may take it as rejection. I understand its just autism. They need to be taught (kindly) how to interact with others.

The new boy pushed me away today and 5 minutes later was cuddling in my lap. I know not to take it personal. I see that some people take it like the child is not being nice to them. They need to learn more on autism.

The teacher I am working with is wonderful with the kids. They are lucky to have her. She is teaching me to be a little firmer. I have a hard time using that firm teacher voice kind of thing. For like if a kid is chocking me. Heeeee. I need to learn to get a little sterner and not smile when saying no. The autism in my family growing up with not intervention was much more than anything I see with these kids. So I guess I am broke in. I have other siblings with HFA. It was sort of wild in my house. I was the shy one but it could get pretty tough. So these kids seem easy to me. Make sense?

There were no programs for us then. There is zero help for me today as an adult either. I have had to teach myself all the skills I have learned with some help from parents online or other autistic adults and you all helped me sooooooooooooo much for learning social skills. I will always be greatful for that. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

:onhishead:

Kathy

PS: I am wanted to add that we are going to the YMCA. I was afraid to do that at first because of not being used to the people. (took me about a year to actually say yes and go with them) Last time we went (thursday) I was talking to lots of people and I jumped of the high dive too. I could not have done that without learning how to share with other that you all taoght me to do. From online to real-time at Clay events. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

PSS: Adding this too. It is sometimes hard for me to interact with the "non-autistic" people. They are harder for me to understand than the children.

Heee, Aspie, there are many of us who find the need to edit our posts, for various reasons!

You are very articulate about the experience of autism! I found your post to be very helpful in understanding a little bit how a person with autism experiences the world. I applaud your courage in trying new situations, and in trying to help children who struggle with the same challenges as you. They are very fortunate to have someone who can truly understand how they feel!

I'm about dropping here. My comfy bed in there is calling my name but before I give in, I wanted to post some links for my South Bend album that I finished tonight. I should throw confetti or something for the mere accomplishment of getting to the end of something. That hasn't happened to me, or by me in quite a while.

BWAH! Aspeigrl, your skit was funny stuff! I haven't read much in the way of fan fic.....though I did become quite familiar with someone named Amelia of whom I was quite fond. Thanks for her, muski. Cross your fingers. I want to get to NYC for Spamalot during opening weekend. I doubt that I'll make opening night but am currently looking at the 19th and or the 20th.

Anyway, back to the links. I need sleep. Enjoy!

I used to read fanfic all the time, too, but have since moved on except for one at CV I keep an eye on.

Here's a confession, though....I have your stories printed off and in a notebook...muski...every once in awhile I'll take a big ole notebook outside and reread them.

I have a couple of other stories that I printed to read. I can't bring myself to throw them away.

Holy crap! Surely you didn't include NBTT in that printed stuff! I've printed it out and it's mumbledymumbledy thousands of pages! Wow....... :F_05BL17blowkiss:

I think I read NBTT all on the computer....during one weekend! My eyes have never been the same! :cryingwlaughter:

Kareneh.....my god. Clay's mouth in so many of those pictures... :hubbahubba: His mouth is so beautiful. The lips....gah. :Thud:......oh. I did some fast rightclickandsaving!

play...that's a riot! So if I understood the copy correctly, this was some article back in 1954? Fortran? OMG....my math teacher showed us Fortran when I was in 11th or 12th grade. Drove me nuts.

Ah...teenagers. Alex bought hair color that's supposed to last through 26 shampoos. So I did it for her. Uh.... okay....26 shampoos to go, huh?

Well...SHE likes it. And that's what really counts, right?

So, what color did Alex get? I'd love to know!

My younger daughter just got a cute new haircut, so of course she wants a new color to go with it. Um, make that colors. This time she wants strawberry blonde on the top half of her head, golden brown on the hair below her ear line, and light blonde highlights throughout. I'm getting lots of coloring experience! And she gets to express her individuality, with hair that will eventually grow out. I see it as mother-daughter bonding time. :)

Woluld you believe I was searching for that phrase doctors use about zebras when trying to tell an intern to go forthe simple answer first and this picture popped up - where is the zebra??? I have no figured this out yet, exceot I was supposed to find it.

Oh, and Muski, when I started programming we used Octal, Hexidecimal wasn't that common yet. 1 less bit. They even made me translate the fortan into Octal and punch up[ the cards in octal code because my time was less valuable than the computers - or I cost less, they didn't pay me much. There wasa one day turnaround for a compile, so if you translated into operating code and then translated that into Octal, you could save a couple of days.

Thankful! You little....you're going to opening night? I'm jealous fo' sho', but glad for you. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

I have a really crappy ticket for opening night. The whole family is going and by the time we figured out which weekend would work, all the good tickets were gone. We are all attending the Sunday evening performance.

Our flight gets in Friday afternoon. I'm hoping it will be on time and that I'll be able to get there in time. It's so exciting to be there on opening night. To know that my cheers will be amongst those that Clay will hear. It's pretty darn special. I'll be way up in the balcony but I'll just have to cheer louder.

Ooooh, balcony or not, I'm jellus! How exciting that you get to go to opening night. And to be there with your family is really special!

And it looks like play and justclay are going, too. I hope it's a fantastic experience!

ETA: And Claygasm, too! Wooohoo! Who else from the board is going opening night?

I'm going!! Anybody know a cheap hotel to stay in?? :F_05BL17blowkiss:

play - how do you get back there? do the trains run late? does anyone know what time the play might be over?

BTW - is the phrase you are looking for something like finding a "zebra among the horses"? Or I also found this:

Zebras Filed under: Medicine— Scott @ 6:40 pm Anybody who has spent any time hanging around doctors (or reading a lot of medical blogs) will have run across the term zebra. In medical parlance, zebra is slang for a rare and unusual condition. It can have a positive connotation (usually when referring to yourself, as in “I found this incredible zebra when I was treating this patient’s cough.”)

It's on this page

I take the bus - the trains don't run late, but the PATH train (NY/NJ subway to Jersey city ande Hoboken) run late

I listed some hotels and stuff in the spamalot thread. I think others did as well.

here it is

“If you hear hoof beats, you should look for horses, not zebras.”

Well, we got a laugh out of what I found though.

The whole Spamalot forum is a wealth of information - from play's helpful NJ hotel advice, to lists of who is attending opening night as well as every other night, to links to Spamalot related youtubes and lyrics to some of the songs. Everything you need to know about Spamalot is there!

I haven't read a good fanfic (or any, actually) since the Clyra story from muski. That was some fine writing muski!! I hope you get around to it again soon!!

That story inspired me to make this:

What Are You Doin' New Year's Eve?

(taken down from youtube!!)

Wheeeeee! Thanks for the link, it's been a while since I saw any Tyra clack, and putting it to that music was perfect. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

play, I remember Fortran, it was my first language, back in the days of the coded cards. Can't say I miss it much! :cryingwlaughter:

I just KNOW it was the dancing that made him say that! And learning all the lines!

Or maybe the rehearsal schedule requires him to get up before the crack of noon. Hee.
