muski... BWAH!!! :cryingwlaughter: I like that "sticking out the tongue" message and wish I could use it often!

Anyway, there are some ideas for you to bounce around, in the name of 'market research'. Possibly, the fewer questions, the better...to avoid making it seem like a chore or a test. I'm not sure if it would be best to ask for ratings of the album as a whole or song by song. The songs are so different, it might be difficult to apply one standard to all of them or say the album, as a whole, had a particular emotional impact, quality, etc. I'd at least ask which songs stood out (or which they liked best or disliked) and why.

00lsee... I was in marketing research for 10 years. I agree to limit the questions to not have overload. I'd say only enough questions to take about 10-15 minutes to do. I would rate both the album as a whole and the individual songs if you decide to have that in your questionnaire.

CG... if you need help making the questionnaire look professional, pm me and I'll be glad to help!

Let's all chant "I think it can! I think it can! I think it can!"

THREAD TITLE, please!!! :F_05BL17blowkiss:

Amid all the CD stuff, does NObody else want to perform porn with Clay on AI? :DoClay:

Hah - "I'm not dead yet!" (tm Not Dead Fred)

Without getting all schmaltzy and schmoopie.....I am SO glad I found this board and a bunch of people who (1) don't eat weird mushrooms that cause hallucinations and imaginations; and (2) don't get all het up about things out of our control!!!

Iseeme... I agree... I'm not dead yet, either!!! I'm also glad that you found this board. :F_05BL17blowkiss: We are the sane ones, fer schurr! Clay has made some very influential friends and has enough varied talents that I truely believe he will be around for as long as I am and that's what I want!!! He just gives me so much joy! If he makes enough money in touring and merchandise to not need to make money on his cds, then he'll keep doing it until the music industry gives in from sheer water dripping on stone.

Now, clay did not ignore me at the stage door, he stopped in front of me and spoke to a few of us (Fear included) in February and told us we were too quiet, we should make more noise, the actors like it that way. Now, since we were not lying in bed, I assume he was talking about the audience and the stage door. There were no screams when Clay emerged, just please sign this and thank yous. There were not many of us out there in the cold.

Make my musrooms shitake or baby bella.

Play... BWAH!!! :cryingwlaughter::cryingwlaughter: First Class smutting, Play! I'm impressed!!!

Bookie... almost all fans loved the cd at first. Then when the numbers came in low, they started picking it and Clay apart to explain why the numbers came in low. Shrugs... that's their choice. I think the cd is fantastic. Clay goes against the norm and the industry is not going to make it easy for him because of that. He'll get there!!!

What's the matter with me? I knew better. But I went looking anyway against my better judgment, because it's been a while and I was curious -- for about two minutes and then the stupidity and herd mentality wouldn't let me go on.

Amid all the CD stuff, does NObody else want to perform porn with Clay on AI? :DoClay:

Howdy!

I've been reading/lurking but this I just couldn't let go . . .

Hell NO, I don't want "to perform porn with Clay on AI"!!!

I want him all to myself - just him and me - in my bedroom.

And kitchen.

And guest room.

And the hotel down the road.

And anywhere else he'd get a notion for . . .

I love this album and don't see the point in agonizing about its promotion or sales. There really is not much more that I, as a fan with no skill at making montages and no access to local AC stations that take requests, can do other than enjoy the music and think positively.

I will continue to read here and scan elsewhere to pick up what ever precious little nuggets of information about Clay that I can find. Now that OBF is taking a well deserved rest and hanging out with friends, family and dogs, I am hoping that this is the time when I can at last get away from my computer and the compulsive checking up several times a day of various Clay fan boards that has become an obsessive habit.

A few months ago I found a wonderful site called www.ted.com which has some fascinating talks on a wide variety of subjects. This morning I watched one on the intelligence of crows and another on 6 ways that mushrooms can save the world. Well worth checking out during times of Clack drought.

Just got back home after a wonderful (and cheap!) Indian lunch with luckiest1, to find you all SMUTTING!!

Is there NOONE in control around here when we're gone?? :cryingwlaughter:

:naughtywag::naughtywag::naughtywag:

Achhh, I'm so full and happy I don't even CARE what they're doing out there in Crazyland! We laughed, we bopped and listened, we ate, we had a good time...what could be wrong with that??

Pray for luckiest1 though....I live in Cottagetown, ON...and the highway from my place toward hers was solid bumper-to-bumper stopped cars. Sure hope it doesn't take her and Clay 6 hrs to get home!

I think it can! I think it can! I think it can! I think it can!!

I just got a Google Alert for a site where you can supposedly buy OMWH the entire CD for $1.62 and each individual song for 15 cents. Is that even legal?

Musicmp3

I found this:

LEGAL INFO

No doubt the illegal download situation has hurt artists across the board -- with the exception of the High School Musical/Hannah Montana-type CDs. But I can envision a silver lining with the international market. Record companies can limit distribution of hard CDs and the available legal download sites, but they can't limit people online all over the world from downloading at the P2Ps, whether in Japan, Finland or Slovenia. A record label doesn't have to "ship" to Europe and Asia for music to be heard there. And then there's YouTube and the YouTube clones ... that genie is completely out of the bottle now. While concerts don't sell CDs as much as CDs sell concert tickets, music downloaded legally or illegally, or burned from a friend's MP3's, or watched on YouTube can sell concert tickets. Since artists make their money primarily from touring .... it's a modern day ponderable. I wonder who's going to figure this all out one day?

Clay is unique. There's no one on that list of Top 50 that actually competes with him, IMO -- not even Groban. Clay is Clay, and you either love his voice, or you don't. I don't think the style of music matters so very much, because his voice is the golden goose. No doubt that young people and people like me too, definitely enjoy a heavy beat -- something to make them move it, move it. This isn't new, nothing different since I've been paying attention to music and shakin' my thang. If Clay can do parodies of hot sexy tunes with a heavy beat, then he can do it for real, but he very obviously doesn't want to. Kipper pushed him to do EIDN. He thought that was out of his lane and yet it's his voice that makes that otherwise ordinary song succeed. He could sell a gazillion records if he wanted to push his comfort zone, but he repeats that he wouldn't be taken seriously (as if the numb-nuts are taking him seriously now). But he has a freedom in what he's doing. It's his show, his career, his voice, his songs, his friends -- and he can blow raspberries to anyone who doesn't like it. This career is his baby, and discussing every extraneous factor in the world of sales and promotion techniques and gimmicks, and, worse, looking for scapegoats, for God knows what, is all a colossal waste of time.

Clay has made it clear that he doesn't have the desire to write his own songs. Does it matter how talented he is at songwriting? He doesn't like to do it, and I got from the tour banter last year that Jaymes not only had to push, but had to push extremely hard to get lyrics out of him. But if that all changes and Clay spends the next year writing out his heart lyrically, and fashions those words to rhythmic Timbaland-style products, would he sell a lot more? Oh no doubt about it. But that is not what he wants to do, not now, and maybe not ever. But Clay does make changes and he does grow so his future styles and methods are for him to determine. I do know that I'll be looking forward to concerts and will take every opportunity I can afford to be in his audience. Because I'm here for the voice.

I guess what I'm trying to say in too many words, is that selling 10 million copies of OMWH wouldn't make it any better than it already is for me. And if it's all about him being heard by more people, then nobody should bitch about the international free download sites.

You know, what was it that Gladys Knight said? Something like she didn't know where in the contemporary world of music Clay would fit in but something great would happen to him?? I think she was very prophetic. Clay does not fit into the contemporary music world today. All you have to do is do Promosquad for awhile to know that. But he is too good, too magical to not find a place. Perhaps he will be the impetus for popular music to shift back to the time when good voices and good melodies mattered. Maybe not. Maybe Clay will create his own niche and others will seek to follow him.

Either way, when you don't fit into a mold, when you dare to be different, when you seek to blaze new trails, you will hit some rough patches and often it will seem like you're alone and lost and out of touch. But then you break through and find your grail - your place in the world. I have every faith that eventually Clay will find his. I just think that we as a fandom have got to start being realistic about Clay's place in contemporary music. He is not going to receive "superstar" promotion because in today music world he is not a superstar. He will struggle for radio play, because he doesn't fit neatly into any box. He may not sell platinum, or even gold for awhile for the same reasons. He may be down, but he sure as hell isn't out!

All we need is time and patience and faith in Clay and all around him. There is a line from that wonderful poem "Desiderata" that says "And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should". Somehow I think that line can apply to Clay's career. If we as his fans just had faith in that - as frustrating as it may be at times - maybe we could all enjoy more and angst less.

Yes, this is coming from last week's Negative Nellie! But I have seen the light and the light is named Clay!

I think it can! I think it can! I think it can!

I was responding to someone's post about Clay's blog/post re sales at OFC today.

I don't understand the angst. Here's what I posted.

I thought I'd post it here since I've been seeing the "I Think I Can" chant here! :)

The thing that stands out in his post to me is that he says RCA is doing all that it can. And then he Promises that that is so. He didn't have to promise. But he did.

I went back and looked at some of the video from the ATDW promo period. Clay looked uncomfortable talking about that album. He seemed to struggle for his words when he talked about doing the love songs/covers.

I don't see that this time. To me he seems genuinely happy with this album.

I know I am. I love it! Do I wish sales were higher? Sure. But I don't think a #4 opening is shabby at all. And I still believe this will be the Little Album That Could!

And even if it never breaks any more sales records. Even if only a privileged few get to hear it - I wouldn't trade it for 5 minutes on Top 40, because I can't stand what Top 40 has become. And I don't think Clay likes it much either!

I miss knowing where he is. I miss the SD/Spam reports.

But I just watched Leno again this morning and . . .

I'm Happy!

Because he looks so Happy -

and I have perfectly perfect music to listen to.

Well, the HDD chart watching has begun... Less than 30% of retailers reporting but of course there's a big drop in the ranking of OMWH...with the consequent prophecies of Clay's career demise.

Interesting that a compilation of Sinatra tunes debuted (so far) this week at #2...behind Death Cab for Cutie.

BWAH! :cryingwlaughter:

Gloom, despair, and agony on me

Deep, dark depression, excessive misery

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all

Gloom, despair, and agony on me

Bwahaha...Sorry, guys. Of course I want big numbers for this CD...Of COURSE I do...but I'm not going to despair about something I cannot control and which, in my opinion, is not necessarily an accurate indicator of Clay's future in the business.

OMG.............Hee Haw........ :cryingwlaughter:

this question is not related to the topic du jour but I gotta ask it!

I've been looking for Kyrie. I thought I remembered that somewhere somehow there was a version "lovingly ripped" from the Jimmy Kimmel website which was a full version of his performance there. Did I dream it? Cause I can't find it.

Someone please guide my search! :F_05BL17blowkiss:

And speaking of dreams, I had one recently where Clay was dressed in toga and wearing a laurel leaf wreath on his head. Maybe he will do Shakespeare?? :cryingwlaughter:

So many good posts since I left this morning to run errands. First of all - CG, I'm glad you're feeling more positive this week! I loved your whole post. Clay is Clay. You either love him or you don't love him but he IS an original and he's also self-admittedly verra verra stubborn. I don't see him ever conforming to someone else's expectations unless it's comfortable for him. And it probably won't be to go multi-platinum as the only reason.

My ONLY fear about the CD is that because of weak sales they won't let him continue to do what he wants to do!!! But to balance that fear out, I still believe this CD is going to be around for awhile. It's just like OMWH - the first time I saw him sing it "live" was on QVC. I wasn't nearly as impressed with it as I was when I saw him sing it on Kimmel. I think every time he sings any song it's usually better than the last time he sang it. His performance grows. By the time he tours this CD - boy howdy! We're in for some mind-boggling performances!!!! EIDN was possibly one of my least favorite songs but the nuances he puts into singing it - and thinking of that growl on stage.................gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Hee, no prayers needed, I made it just fine! I know how to use back roads.......so much less stressful than sitting in stop and go traffic. Speaking of which, crimsonice could use some prayers just now........she is attempting to cross back into Canada via the Port Huron border, and it is backed up for hours. She's been sitting with the engine off to conserve gas, which she forgot to get before she got in line. Eeeep!

I've been looking for Kyrie. I thought I remembered that somewhere somehow there was a version "lovingly ripped" from the Jimmy Kimmel website which was a full version of his performance there. Did I dream it? Cause I can't find it.

I think you were dreaming, sweetie. A nice dream, for sure! :P

This is how I see this "problem!" I think it's a form of mob mentality sometimes. We know there are boards with fans that hate Clive, hate RCA, think promo is never enough, the single was the wrong one released, why did this happen or how come someone didn't do this.....and rarely is a decision made in Clay's camp that isn't sliced, diced and spit out every which way. Now I'm not saying you have to like everything that happens or agree with everything that happens - but, some make it a lifestyle to be contrary where Clay is concerned. Then a bunch of people jump in and agree like sheep. Then everyone is off to the races!!! The last 7 days are a perfect example......

Sometimes I think it has less to do with Clay than it does with a person's need to express themself and be heard. I've met a couple of these people in real life and they wouldn't say "boo" with a ghost costume on. But both of them are totally hell on wheels when it comes to posting their thoughts on the internet. With one lady in particular, I had a hard time resolving her real life personality with her internet ranting!!! You'd think some of these people had senior executive positions with a major record label and were responsible for the successful careers of many popstars the way some of them go on and on and on.

Everyone has opinions. Some of them are more knowledgeable than others. Some really do know what they're talking about. But most, quite frankly, only have opinions based on their life experiences and their own tastes. And yet they're presented as fact!!!!!

I don't know how message boards are for other entertainers - never been to one. I don't know if Clay has the corner on the market for negative and critical fans. But I just wish people wouldn't be so quick to judge him. I personally want to enjoy more and angst less. As a result I think I'm having more fun with being a Clay fan......and I think most on this board are as well.
