Everyone has their own filters when reading anything. We love Clay and his view of his life was read thru those filters and we each formed our own impressions.

I am aware that Clay only told the things Ray did to him, while alluding briefly to the fact that he wasn't an angelic child. Ray Parker may have thought he was just trying to raise Clay right.

I can only accept how it made Clay feel as he wrote in LTS. He felt unloved by Ray and outside the family unit.

I had an abusive/being bullied childhood similar in many ways to Clay's and have always felt compassion for him and feel deep admiration for the way he made himself the man he is in spite of that abuse. He has actually helped me let go of some of the pain of the past thru the "if he can do it, so can I" train of thought.

It's part of the reason I so sincerely love that man... besides the fact that he is sexsay and CUTE and has a CUTE son!!! :cryingwlaughter:

Thanks for saying this...I also had a childhood similar to Clay's and the book was painful in part to read but as you said, very helpful to read how he handled it and overcame it.

FOUND IT!!!!

To say Jaymes is Clay's babymama -- and Clay is Jaymes' babydaddy -- just doesn't fit this situation IMO. I do like and use a lot of slang, just never especially cared for the babymama/babydaddy thing.

As for the name Parker -- I don't see it so much as being about Ray. In the South, people often name their firstborns after family -- in Clay's case both his grandmothers' (Aiken and Grissom) maiden names (Clayton and Holmes). Since Faye's maiden name was Aiken, and Clay changed his last name to Aiken, and Parker's last name is Aiken -- it just wouldn't do to name the baby Aiken Foster Aiken. So I think the Parker name is for Faye ... and Brett.

I think the very last name on the list for little Parker would have been Vernon Ray.

I will bring over reports during the cellstream but I won't be able to wait up for hours after the event is over to bring over other recaps. I will need to get to bed shortly after its over because I have to get up early tomorrow. My sister and I are cooking Mom a feast for Mother's Day! We are doing a main meal lunch at around 1pm. Here is our menu:

Roasted Pork Loin

Crispy Red Potatoes with Parmesan and Herbs

Corn on the Cob

Grilled Asparagus

Homemade Blackberry Cobbler

We are also giving her a Starbucks Gift card because my mom LOVES her Starbucks and would rather have that over flowers, candy, or pretty much anything else. LOL

What I am wondering is that if the naming of his child had to follow Southern tradition, then why didn't they name him Jaymes' maternal grandmother's maiden name? The name 'Foster' could have remained as the middle name.

Just speculating, if we are to stick to tradition, although it seems ironic since Parker is born into a most untraditional family, even by today's complex family situations! (But I agree with David Foster who called it 'beautiful'. I actually think it is fantastic, Parker will always have two parents who love each other for all the right reasons. I have a feeling others will be thinking "hm, what a good idea...")

YUMMMM!! Can I come over, too?? :)

And a Starbucks card is a wonderful idea for a gift.

My hubby is taking me to an undisclosed restaurant for dinner tomorrow. Somewhere 'ethnic' and 'exotic.' Should be interesting!

Ray's dead. Clay's happy. We had very similar upbringings and for me..there are good and bad memories. I know about .00000005 of Clay's memories. I know enough to be empathetic but not enough for anything beyond.

and on that note...WE'RE HERE whoo hooo....in our cute, cheap, clean, room..found for us by one cute, cheap, FCAer :cryingwlaughter:

They let Scarlett and I check in early; we're waiting for our Chinese food...we both are staying away from the casino..me because I've had the day from hell already and I don't think a jackpot is in my future. The worst thing was losing my ID just long enought to make me late getting to the airport and so I didn't have time to check my bag so they confiscated all liquids -- so yes my nappy hair will be all the rage -- then I left my phone at the checkpoint area which I was thankfully able to retrieve and to top it off I didn't get my half cup of diet sprite on the plane. :hahaha: I was concentrating on something and I guess he thought I was sleep LOL. Then in Vegas I somehow missed the tram and walked 20 miles to find Scarlett. That was very good for me though. The cab driver then got lost finding our hotel.

Anyway, we are just going to chill for awhile..go pick up our tickets... i may at that point find my way to the gaming area - or maybe I'll have an iron will and stay away.

Yes I brought my laptop. Not sure if I'll be doing a recap tonight or when I get home tomorrow... but eeek for you east coasters! I'm not good at recapping but I'm sure you'll know all the important stuff better than me hee. Can't beliee I started this post 1/2 hour ago.. the food is yummy. Anybody want a stuffed chicken wing?

Later gators

ETA: YUMMMMMMMMMM blackberry cobbler... Can I come over.

ETA: This day just keeps getting better all around. My sister purchased my ticket and she needs to be present with her credit card to pick it up. :hahaha: Wonder if she is willing to jump on a plane. I think I have warmed the cockles of someone's heart with my sob story and all is well. :hahaha: If I'm crying here later you'll know why.

Yeah for a handful of new answers today!! [And hee! for his "exam essay" response to a question that had a hectoring tone to it, IMO.]

:lilredani: Have a good time in Vegas, y'all!

And Couchie, you know I love you girl, but if your string of bad luck affects someone's Clack gathering efforts, I will hunt you down and pelt you with rabbits feet. :imgtongue:

Love that he's answering questions from Vegas. Love his answer about the two JNTs. Hate that they were so criticized.

When I read his answer to the flower question, I assumed he meant it wouldn't tell us his favorite color? Probably wrong but it worked for me.... :cryingwlaughter:

I'm thinking the flower answer was because then people would start sending him favorite flower before a show, such as the one tonight. Just my take.

It's been a long day, but a good one. Most of the family just took a walk after sifting through old pictures and letters and such. Then, dinner....

Have fun tonight, ya'll.

Where is this picture from? Who is this man with clay?

This picture was taken the morning Clay was on KTLA. It's a great interview and the three parts can be found in the vaults or at Clackunlimited. It's from September 27, 2006 -- the morning after Kimmel. I don't know who that guy is -- and I don't remember exactly where I got the picture, except I think it was from MySpace. He's wearing a suit, so he's either an exec or on-air. I really, really recommend those KTLA videos because Clay looks even better than in this picture!

What I am wondering is that if the naming of his child had to follow Southern tradition, then why didn't they name him Jaymes' maternal grandmother's maiden name? The name 'Foster' could have remained as the middle name.

Well ...... maybe Jaymes' mother's maiden name was Waldo, or Butts, or Schnitzelphluger? It only works when it's a name you want to give your child. That said, I have come across three different men in my life with the first name Barksdale!

Cool to have our own play-by-play announcer on site!

I will be watching the White House Correspondents' Dinner at 8, I believe Wanda Sykes will be just as funny as Steven Colbert.

I'll be watching the WHCD too, but that should happen in DC before Clay perforrms in Vegas tonight; so I'll be going for the Correspondents Dinner and the CV cellcert. I'll be curious to see if Wanda keeps it semi-clean, because some of the funniest lines in her stand-up are "I don't give a fuck" and "She REALLY didn't give a fuck!"

As funny as Wanda is, and I do think she's a riot, I can't believe that there will ever be anyone in the history of the WHCD that will equal, much less surpass, Colbert. I watched that performance at least 20 times the next day! He had to kick his balls out of way to walk out of the room! He confronted everybody from Justice Scalia to Gen. Pace to President Bush, and gave no quarter. I'm still in awe.

Lucky... I was just coming here to say we have a con nec tion... I do believe I mention Mr. Toobin's book just the other day. hee Of course he's read it and I haven't ..but why split hairs... :hahaha:

Clay must stay glued to CNN. Regarding Toobin and just something that he mentioned recently, he's the son of Marlene Sanders, a pioneer woman in broadcast journalism.

Marlene Sanders began her broadcast journalism career in 1955 working for Mike Wallace of CBS, as his local producer. In those days, women were usually in the newsroom solely to perform secretarial functions.

Marlene Sanders is a female pioneer in broadcasting, and she has a number of firsts to her credit: the first woman to cover the Vietnam war from the field; the first woman anchor of a nightly newscast for a major network; and eventually the first woman vice president of the ABC News division.

Sanders later became an Emmy Award–winning correspondent, writer, producer, and broadcast-news executive.

Marlene Sanders is the mother of Jeffrey Toobin, lawyer, author, and CNN legal analyst.

Take about a con.nec.tion! Jeffrey had one of the BEST!
