There was a pre-concert article in the N&O, but no post-concert article. We checked. So although there were photographers there, maybe PBS put the brakes on any type of write up? That's the only reason I can think that the concert wasn't reviewed. I expect we'll see lots of press once the special airs!

I am hoping Clay takes the time to blog, too. whistling-1.gif

ETA: Apparently I killed the thread last night!

And, never say never, because apparently a review went up yesterday! Why they would wait over a week is anyone's guess.....

Clay Aiken Reveals New Album in Raleigh Concert

The set list ranged from the up tempo beats of "Mack the Knife" (with such an amazingly huge, long, perfect last note that it moved the audience to a standing ovation as soon as the first number concluded), "Eso Beso," "Suspicious Minds," and "Build Me Up Buttercup" to the slower, simpler side of Clay with "Misty," "Moonriver," "In My Life," and "Unchained Melody" (with a jaw dropping climax in which Clay hit a note that seemed to redefine the meaning of the verb "to sing"). There were flashy lights, lots of smoke, and chandeliers that descended from the ceiling to change the atmosphere before certain songs.

Wow, I think she got it! Can't ask for a much better review than that. I wish fans commenting would not pick certain words apart, but instead be happy it got a rave review!

Thanks luckiest. No doubt we can expect more of this cooler than thou type of review. Nice comments and not over the top either. Looks like UM got to the reviewer too! :cryingwlaughter:

And also good morning. Mr. Fear is taking up a lot more of my time but can get around a little better each day. Fortunately hid PT worked on stairs yeaterday so he is not trapped in a few rooms. I'm doing another open house today so keeping my fingers crossed. Hope everyone has a beautiful day.

From the CH, via Chris Walden's Facebook (which is public -- and to remind couchie, he's the conductor/arranger of the new album):

Clay Aiken's album "Tried and True" with lots of big band and strings arranged and conducted by yours truly will be out June 1st.

EEEEEEEE!

Cool review in that paper.

YAY for a wonderful review! luckiest1, I'm assuming that one of those certain words is "schmaltz" and I've long been a self-described lover of schmaltz, and require a certain amount of it mixed in with my r&b, rock, Americana and funk. Many of my favorites have been labeled schmaltz: The Moody Blues, James Taylor, and Tchaikovsky, for three off the top of my head. I love them all.

Merriam-Webster:

Schmaltz

1 : sentimental or florid music or art

Of course, some may intend it as a put-down, as in ...

"McCartney's piano playing is Vegas-lounge schmaltz." — Graham Reid; The Beatles: Let It Be

I'm seriously considering a trip to NYC if we ever get confirmation of a concert there. I'd love to take in a few shows, eat popovers, and enjoy the city.

YUM on the popovers. I wish I could go to NYC again. I love it. Although if he has one in NYC on the 25th I am so there.

I'm really really really hoping that I'll make it to at least 2 concerts NH and NYC!!!

I hope you can make them.

Since it's so quiet tonight I have a cute story to tell. Unfortunately not about Clay. I was in CVS this afternoon and in a real hurry as I was having the open house in twenty minutes from then.

A cute guy was at the register and was talking to the woman in front of me about his daughter. Turns out he is a single dad who had just adopted a three year old girl with Aspergers. He was so proud of her he showed us her picture on his cellphone. Then he talked about how smart she is. I go to the store. The woman in back of me was talking to him about her grandchild who has autism and is mainstreamed in high school. I told him about the woman with Aspergers who invented new ways to herd cattle. I had seen her story on HBO. But I couldn't remember her name. I had to run but wished I had been able to talk to him about the NIP. I'll keep an eye out for him next time.

Couchie, I have pulled for just about every conference represented for a variety of reasons -- connections like past home states, a good friend's team, etc. If I don't have a real reason to cheer for a team, I usually go with the underdog; and this has been a great tournament for some -- especially Northern Iowa!

My day began an 8 a.m. orchestra call, and all went well with our two performances. I'll probably include a segment about the cantata in the next Carolina blog. Wish I had some clack! :whistling-1:

Love the "Examiner" review! Y'all have a super new week! :BlowKiss:

I am glad that some of you have a concert somewhat near them. I am stilling hoping for a midwest, would really like a Mi. one. Funds are limited like most people now days so can not travel to far. I so wish that Clio was still booking big name acts, this year they are still just going with tribute bands again. I really liked that venue.

Yeah, another Clio concert would be a dream come true!

I've kind of come to the conclusion that July dates aren't going to work for me. So I am anxiously awaiting more venues being announced after the Reno concert. So far the closest is Chautauqua, but NYC might be doable if nothing else comes up.
