Thanks, I'll do that. :)

Hope the Reno concert goes well tonight! I'll be staying up late tomorrow for the Seattle PBS airing (I get it on a west coast feed) so I'm calling it a night tonight. I look forward to reading through the concert thread in the morning.

For those who can stay awake, and I'm not 100% sure I'll be one of them, the thread for eeeeeing and squeeeeing, red reporting, and otherwise enjoying the concert together tonight is here - Reno. Dontcha wish you were there? I do. But just think of all the fine recaps we're going to get!! Have y'all Reno attendees got someone reporting in to the board, or a group post-concert recap planned?? That might keep me awake. Or y'all could party your hearts out while we sleep, all the while dreaming we are there, and we can hear all about it in the morning. :cryingwlaughter:

I think we'll be meeting afterward so the recaps may be very late or in the morning. I also plan to be doing cocktail.gif

I watched the PBS special on my Charlotte station this afternoon. All I can say is it really is an OMG concert. Clay and the orchestra, lighting and everything was so fabulous. He is really in his element and he was so personable in the interviews for this station. They even had the bobble head of Clay sitting between him and the interviewer. Charlotte concert is Feb 23 at the Blumenthal and he said this would be the only T&T concert in NC. I read back a few pages that a capper was needed for this show. I have a copy on video tape if that is needed.

Thank you to all for the pictures, videos and reports of the concerts since I won't be able to see the TImeless Tour but I am hoping to go to Charlotte.

That's great, penguin. Did you get to see it in person, too? If not and this is your first taste of the awesome that was that taping, then that's even awesome-er, lol.

Don't erase that tape!

I did not get to see it in Raleigh so this was my first viewing. I won't erase the tape and I have it on DVR also but no equipment to get it off.

Up early as usual (and now you see why I have a hard time staying up late LOL). Sounds as though I didn't miss much as Linda Blair was on the cellcert? BWAH.

Hi y'all from Reno!

I'm not great at recaps so will just post this:

The Yellow Shirt is History! We got belted jeans!

Clay sounded great. No trouble on high notes. Ruben was terrific. Audience showed everyone even band the love.

I met Perma and we compared our hand Injuries hee hee

But loved being in 2nd row to see that man dance. He is getting skinny! Looked great as always.

Off to bed cuz got early flight and then in LA!

QUOTE (demeter @ Jul 31 2010, 10:58 PM)
After Concert Report:

deemer called... said the audience was great, really enjoyed it. She talked to a guy after the concert and she said "wasn't it fabulous?" and he said, "It was beyond fabulous!"

mentioned the hammer pants... shiny black, gold belt and chain hanging down... he was trying to hide the belt... Rube hadn't seen the outfit so he was really surprised, but he said the pants were actually pretty good.

Then when he took the hammer pants off, he also removed the jacket he was wearing with the pants, and the rest of the concert was Clay in his white button down shirt, tucked into his jeans.

Lots of clack tonight. Scarlett got everything.

Some drunks and Clay and Ruben made fun of them, then one of the drunks didn't make it through the show and Clay said "did you see how fast they took her seats? She was in front row.

Security didn't seem to crack down on anyone at all... the only problem might be obstructed view because the floor was flat.

Sorry about the cellcert. Verizon would not work and Dokie couldn't get a signal. I put my phone on the floor in front of me and I'm sorry it didn't work. I guess broadcasting from a dungeon doesn't work well.

I had a great time. Our seats were on the right so all of my Clack is from that side. I only have my netbook with me' date=' so I can't edit videos or work with my photos. I did use WMM to convert the hammer pants video and should be able to upload that tonight.

I was able to get one small file uploaded. Clay and Ruben talking to Alex.

wandacleo at CV:

Back from the concert (with a little detour for ice cream). OMG, what a great show! Little tidbits that I loved--when Clay was entering the stage and Ruben was leaving, they slapped hands The drunken lady--Alex--kept yelling out "I love you," and Ruben and Clay sort of just included her in the routine. At one point, Clay said something like "Drunk and funk" and was laughing. He asked us all to say happy birthday to Alex and asked her whom she came with. When she said her kids, Clay looked incredulous and said something like "You came with your kids!!" and then something about them needing therapy for that. (Sorry, I'm paraphrasing here!") At one point when he and Ruben were talking, and the woman was disrupting, Clay said, "Let me guess., you love me (or us)." After she finally left, Clay asked for a moment of silence for her and then teased the people who had run up and taken her seats. That woman interrupted them SO MANY times that at one point they forgot what they were talking about and Clay finally said, "Screw the script" and they just sang.

The best moment of the whole concert--I swear--was when Clay came out in the new Hammer outfit. It was so damn funny and he could hardly contain himself he was so pleased. Ruben apparently hadn't seen the outfit because he about split a gut. Clay had some kind of big satiny black jacket on and the most hideous black lame (as in lamay) pants with gold chains hanging and this indescribable gold belt. Clay said something like "Reno has great shops," since they must have purchased them there. OMG, he looked so funny I just about peed myself laughing. PLUS, he grabbed his crotch higher than usual, as in the real thing. OMG, funny.

The singing as always was great. Clay was pathetic as all get out (wrapped in a white blanket) whimpering, twitching, and moaning for the pastor and Ruben couldn't stop laughing.

Another time they both got to laughing was during the peaches and herb routine--you know, the "fruit and herb" just like us bit. Not sure why they got to laughing, but it was funny.

The whole evening just flew by and I'd be sobbing now that it's over except that I'll see it again in NY.

Little note: I noticed that Clay pretty much stayed in character and in focus all night, but a few times Ruben was sort of staring off while singing--just momentary lapses. However, I thought Ruben was great--loved his voice and loved the connection. The two guys really seemed to be having a good time--well, everyone on stage, actually.

Lots of men in the audience, and at the end I looked around and could see lots of them up, grinning, clapping, singing along and having a good time. The place was packed with people. We had great seats in the 4th row, so I was blessed. .

texwriter at CV:

Just back from the concert. It was completely full with more men than I've ever seen at a Clay concert. The crowd was very into it, but not to the extent of getting up and dancing like they did in Clearwater. As you probably heard, there was one lady in the front row who immediately got C & R's attention. She was wearing a black & white striped top, so I'm going to refer to her as zebra lady. She told them over and over that it was her birthday and that she loved them. Zebra lady stood up and danced (all by herself) through about half the show. I was sitting at the end of her row, and was thinking that the people behind her were probably really disgusted with her blocking the view. The boys did get a lot of mileage out of kidding her. Clay said the sad thing was that she would probably never remember a thing in the morning. He asked her who she'd come with and she pointed out her children, sitting apart from her. He said it would probably take them years of therapy to get over this night. I saw her leaving during one of Ruben's slow songs and she never came back. I just hope she made it to her room before she passed out because she told Clay that she'd been celebrating since 12:00 a.m. She was reallllllly drunk!

Clay has a new outfit for the 90's that even Ruben hadn't seen. It was a black zippered jacket with an elastic waist and these SHINY black hammer pants that looked like they were made out of black plastic (picture a garbage bag) There was a gold chain hanging from under the jacket. Ruben completely lost it when he saw Clay's outfit, then Clay pulled up the jacket to reveal this 4" wide gold belt that the chain was hanging from, and Ruben lost it again. Clay proceeds to turn around and flash his belt to all of the band members because he was so proud of his "bling". It was hysterical. I think a lot of the audience members were NJU and they were very responsive to the humor and the vocal abilities of everyone. Security was very attentive to what was going on and I did see them approach a few people with flash cameras. Not sure if anyone had to leave because I was in the first row. It was a really good show, and my DH said he'd never heard Ruben sound better. (He thinks Clay always sounds great!) I do think Ruben's improved a lot since AI. I also think that being around Clay has made him stretch a bit, which he never had to do during idol, because they were always praising him.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Forgot to add that at one point Clay said zebra lady was "ducking frunk", which also cracked Ruben up and got a drum roll from Felix. Felix was doing so many drum rolls during Ruben's preacher routine, that Ruben said "Felix, you're gettin' on my nerves with those drum rolls, cut it out." :lol
Meet N Greet report:
Meet n greet was fun! Got a pretty picture signed. There was time for about 1 question or comment per person. He definitely knows how to keep the conversation rolling. If I was him I'd have all kinds of awkward silences haha. Talked about where we were from, the weather, how he loves... well, I can't remember if it was Portland or Seattle (bad fan!) lol. We were talking about dry heat vs humid heat. It's dry in UT, says he can wear a sweatshirt in dry heat. Humid heat is the worst, can't stand it. He asked me how I handle the heat in Utah, I told him I use my Air Conditioner haha.
Talked the the PBS specials, where they were airing, which cities had concert dates associated with them - but I think you guys mostly know that stuff already. If not I can't remember any new dates. He mentioned Denver as a possible concert stop and I'm not sure if that was already mentioned on the boards (bad fan lol)...
He said we'd get emailed all 5 photos taken at this meetngreet, since it was easier for them to mail them out that way, instead of trying to figure out which person belongs to which screen name. I hope it comes SOOON! My version of the word soon, not Clay's lol.
Well, my concert is already seating. I'm going to hop down there.
~~~~~~

They teased the intoxicated BIRTHDAY lady throughout the show. She kept saying she loved them. They made a bet that she wouldn't make it through the show. Sure enough, she ended up being escorted out, slowly, by someone (like a relative or friend or something, not security I don't think lol). She kept wobbling and stopping. So it made it even funnier because they knew she wasn't going to make it to the end of the show.

I was so happy that he wasn't wearing that yellow shirt. He looked great in his jeans/white button up shirt/belt. Even better in the new 90s getup. Black parachute pants, gold flashy belt, gold chains. Black zipper jacket. Looked ridiculous in the best way.

I can't remember everything all at once. It keeps coming back to me in pieces. But I do remember LOVING "Still the One." I could listen to him sing that forever. I thought he was AMAZING on "Footloose." I hadn't heard him sing it before.

Maybe I'll think of more later. =D

~~~~~~
Couple more meetngreet tidbits before I forget. So while Clay was talking to us, he looked down at his jeans. They were frayed at the bottom. He ripped off a piece that was dangling too much from the ankle/cuff of his jeans lol. I almost reached out to get it from him but I stopped myself haha. So Clay.
He signed my photo "Kristie - Stay True, Clay Aiken"
As description of the Pittsburgh (I think) PBS pledge break from scorpionlady45 at CV:
The woman who interviewed him name was Nancy Paloski (or something like that) and it must have been a long interview because they played parts of the interview at every break.
He looked WONDERFUL - he had on the jacket with the purple velvet collar and a purple striped shirt and jeans. His hair looked really good - longish and parted to the side but very nicely done.
It was just the two of them sitting on stools so lots of close-ups
I missed the first part because I was getting my ticket
but lets see -
she asked when he learned he can sing better than anyone else and he said "well, I don't know if I'm better than anyone else" and she said "oh no, you are" and he told her she was quite generous.
Then he said that he always sang and told the story about singing on carpet mats at Sears and being paid a $1 for it.
Then she asked about his interest in PBS -
said that he has always watched it - said when he was with his grandma, he would fall asleep while she was watching her soaps but when he woke up the channel would be changed and PBS would be on and he watch Sesame Street, etc. and said when he taught he turned PBS on in the morning and now he said things have come full circle because he now turns it on for his son .
She told him that Pittsburgh loves crooners, that Perry Como and Dean Martin are from here, so they should love him. She said that she has to tell him one thing that when he comes in February he better sing Moon River and he said oh he definitely will.
She asked about the concert and Clay said they are trying to keep it as close to the Raleigh concert as possible, but he will add other things since people should get their money's worth and that "he likes to talk" so he's sure he will be doing a lot of talking too.
The Nancy lady was live in the studio tonight while the concert was going on and after every break she would say how much she loves him. That she liked him a lot during AI2 but she didn't realize how FUNNY, QUICK and SMART he was until she interviewed him.
Then she said - you will never met a NICER man. he is such a devoted father, so appreciative of his fans, and of course a great singer.
So the last segment she asked about his hair
They talked about AI hair and how now he found his look and then he said
He said his hair is one thing he has control over so you never know what it's going to look like - short, long, what color?? He said who knows I can be gray under this and she said "on no way".
That cellcert last night was the freakiest thing I've ever heard. I swear I heard messages in there somewhere. :blink:
aikim, the only video I see posted up thread is 'Clay and Ruben talking to Alex.' Is that the one you mean? I'm trying to stay visually unspoiled for most of the concert so I only watched the first few seconds of it, but Clay seems to have his normal (bling free) suit on in this one. Did I miss something?
You MUST watch Scarlett's 90's medley clack from Reno. Seriously. I don't care if you are unspoiled. How come I didn't realize that LLVL is sung at the front of the stage? OMFG I will be in the 4th row for THAT?????
I'm so sorry I didn't have the good sense to check the board so I missed the afterparty--although I had already committed to attending a birthday celebration. I looked and looked for Couchie before the show, but no luck! Shit! I hope I have better luck in NYC.
Thanks to bottlecap for bringing my report over. I was beat when we finally got to our room, but I just want to add that Clay is a good time--a really good time. I'm so happy I'll see this show again. I just loved the way Clay seemed to be enjoying himself and how everyone on stage seemed to enjoy each other. Just like a big old party.
Clay and Ruben made the drunk--who could have been ruinous to a show--a part of the humor. I wonder if she'll see the Clack. I'd go in hiding if I were she!
Still can't get over the Hammer outfit. OMG, so frigging cute and hysterically funny. I laugh every time I think about it.
Total post-ho here:
If any of you are up and around, CarolJean and I are going to have Sunday brunch at the Flavors Buffet at 8AM (because we didn't eat enough at lunch and dinner buffet yesterday!) I'm assuming people will be up if their beds and pillows are as hard as ours. We both have kinks in our necks! I'm wearing a black and white striped top and jeans.
If you are madly chasing Clay's bus down the highway to LA, have a good trip and drive carefully. Wish we were going with you!
Wanda, thanks for the recap(s). Postwhore away! I don't know how anybody remembers enough to recap - the Aiken Fog is brutal. Fortunately the Recap Queen (aka luckiest1) is at the same concerts I am so I can do a lot of 'yeah, that' ing'. *g*
Somebody who lives in Charlotte area might oughta tell the PBS stations web people (or whoever looks after their online pledge form) that Clay's CD and DVD are call TRIED and True, not TIRED and True. They misspelled it every single time.
While you all have been living it up in Reno, I've been trying to make sure the next generation of Clack Goddesses is getting trained in proper camera handling. It's never to early to start.
I figure my great niecelet should be set to do some serious Clackgathering about the time Parker is ready to join the Aiken/Studdard Traveling Revival and Casino Show - say 2014 or so?
From Eva at CH, an important message for all who download clack from CU:
CLACK UNLIMITED
I realize that some of you are active on other boards and I would appreciate it if you could help me spread the word about supporting Clack Unlimited.
There has been very heavy activity on the Clack Unlimited site and a lot of bandwidth being used. Obviously, there are still a great deal of fans out there who are enjoying the use of the site.
However, donations for Clack Unlimited have been very low this year.
In order for us to continue providing this site, donations/subscriptions to support its costs have to be made.
Please visit http://www.clackunlimited.com for information on how you can help support Clack Unlimited.
Thank you
Finally back at couchie's house after an INCREDIBLY long journey from Reno. Traffic was horrendous! We managed to get treenuts back home safely (so great to finally meet her!), and then had to fight the traffic again to get keepingfaith to the airport. We are hoping, hoping, hoping that she made it to her flight on time. It was incredibly tight. My flight isn't until late this evening (I'm doing a red eye), but I'm still just tired.
I'm not sure if I can do a proper recap but here are some things I can remember that I haven't seen yet:
Clay and Ruben started talking about all the places they'd been (Ruben born in Germany, been to Mexico, etc., while Clay mentioned Afghanistan), and then Clay looked over to Quiana and said "she's been to New Mexico, where she thought she needed a passport." Those of us who have been around for a long while realized the way-back machine to 2004 kicked into gear.
Regarding drunk lady: at one point Clay asked if anyone had a spare kidney they could donate to the woman.
Oh, gosh what else. My brain is still foggy at the moment without sleep and with Clay. I just gotta say that the show was fantastic, Clay was vocally fantastic, Ruben did a great job as well, and I'm still smiling from the laughing. The two men just keep trying to crack each other up, a la "The Carol Burnett Show," and I found that so endearing.
More later....probably tomorrow.
Flying post, as I am leaving for Club Nokia in 20 minutes and I have to eat first... tho I read they have Wolfgang Puck there, so maybe not. LOL
I'm not going to remember half the show, but I will say it is now tied with JBT for my fave concert Clay has ever done. I'm was thrilled beyond to not see the massive yellow shirt! Clay doing LLVL in jeans and tucked in shirt was definitely a highlight! Yummmmmy!!! If I do say so myself, the audience LOVED the show!!!
BULLETIN... I saw Clay, Devon, Ruben and Jerome at the Reno airport. Clay was playing the slots and the rest were watching him. Clay... scruff... OMG! I didn't have enough nerve to ask for a picture, but I did say, "good show, guys" and Ruben said thank you. Made my day! I will go into more detail later, but I had a blast meeting and hanging with ldyj, keepingfaith, treenuts, couchie and couchiemom before and after the concert. (We ate the best food I think I've every had and the cheapest for such good food at midnight for pete's sake.)
I was challenged by United losing my luggage Friday and my having to shop at walgreens to make it thru the weekend. I got it back at 1am this morning and left the hotel at 7:30am. Geesh! I bought a $2.99 t-shirt at walgreens and cut it up to have a clean top to wear. The only thing I really minded was not having my binoculars... but I'll have them tonight!!!!!
Off to Club Nokia!
Yes, the yellow shirt was no longer. Instead, the jeans. The jeans. The jeans.
bottlecap, skip this next section.
I had a seat in row 13, but in the center section. Clay sang Mandy directly to me. He really did. Truly. He sounded so good, and he takes that song to another level. I sat there with my hand over my mouth, just floored by the beauty.
OK bc, you're good again.
The afterparty started off being almost a nightmare, but ended up really great. We thought we had a place, only to find that the place closed at 11:00 p.m. (it was 10:45), and they wouldn't seat us. Every other place had a line a mile long...except for the steakhouse. treenuts did her magic and convinced them that we just wanted appetizers and drinks (which we did), and they let all 15 of us in, even though they also technically stopped serving at 11. It was the nicest meal, and the food was great. The drinks were strong too! So many people there, so many that I was glad to see again.
kf and I also made it to brunch today with wanda, and it was great to meet her!
I cannot find a favorite portion of the show. It's an amazing complete work (ooooo, flashback word, sorry), and all of a sudden, the show was over.
Thank goodness I'm seeing the show again in less than two weeks. It's going to be interesting -- I'm going to be drooling over LLVL from the 6th row, but with my husband sitting next to me. Thank God my husband is a good, good soul.
ETA: cindi, I think it's Devin, supposedly Clay's new boyfriend.
