Couchie puts me in charge and this is what she gets. I suck. Sorry! Hope the concert was great! Quick summary - Clay was cute. Clay was funny. Sing good, look pretty. The end. Clay was wearing glasses for the meet and greet. ----- It is starting. They are looking for a quarter. ----- Looks really crowded, everyone's excited, the merchandise tables were packed and the weather is beautiful. Roar just went up from crowd! ----- Cellstream reports he's wearing glasses now, too. ----- TTNA ----- Says he looks very hot! ----- He's twistin. They are having a blast. I can hear so clearly. Someone is screaming in my ear. Fabulous reception so far. He sounds like he is really having a blast and so is the audience. ----- At the hop ----- Rockin Robin ----- Great Pretender! ----- Now he's the great pretender pretending that I'm doin well... Sure sounds like he's doing REALLY WELL tonight! ----- oooh, he sounds very good!!!!!!!! ----- Only You holding out the "you"...everyone screaming for it ----- Mr. Sandman Says it looks packed, but she can't see the lawn, she is in 6th row! ----- Lots of screaming on That'll be the Day! ----- He's on the Piano!!! He says it is a fun fun show and he introed the fifties. Something about fun songs and hair bands in the eighties and nineties. He doesn't know what we were thinking then. He says we are gonna have a good time and now it is time for UM. ----- microphone cord stuck under something..he yanked it out.......shoes on wrong feet. ----- Introducing UM Singng it now - so beautiful, so poignant! ----- Clay sounds like he is in a great mood. Said something about just doing something for the first time in a while with out screwing it up...he thinks this will be a real good night. UM now...so beautiful. ----- Unchained! He did something that got the crowd going. ----- OMG...that "neeeeeeeeed" was incredible! ----- voice sounds great...doesn't sound sick...not sure why the glasses... ----- That glory note just set them off. Elvis! ----- LMT now...piano playing Clay...must be making faces...laughter. His voice sounds gorgeous tonight. I'm not hearing any strain, even with the soft notes on LMT. ----- LMT...he sings this so tenderly...I just love how his voice has so much power but quietly... ----- Here is goes. Hound Dog! Even sounds great on the phone. Oh yeah, he has the crowd going on this set. He sounds so happy. ----- Daydream Believer as Clay comes thru the clothes rack to lots of screams, crowd clapping along ----- It's amazing to me how the sound and feeling changes so dramatically from SM to the 60s medley...so light and fun! ----- Downtown ----- Now he's doing "Can't Buy Me I just love the headshake he does here! ----- Sugar sugar ----- Happy together ----- no giggling yet on SS...screams on SHT....something happened... ----- Crowd just roared at something. and again I can't seem me lovin nobody but you for all my life. ----- Lots of laughter from the audience during Happy Together. Quiana is "crying". ----- Solitaire ----- Solitaire, so rich and deep. Makes me cry. I think about LTS and his father. Makes me sad. He conveys the emotions in this song so well. Having trouble typing over here because I just thudded from the fifties and wow!!!!!!!!!! ----- Mmmm...lots of low note Clay during Solitaire...very nice. ----- OMG! The Glory Note! That man has some lungs on him! It was just beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually got to type the whole thing before he was done! ----- Solitaire sounds wonderful. Sounds lower...oh that Solitaire went down low....so did Sayinnnnn And Soli-taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaairrrrrrrrrre goes on forever..... ----- Crowd is whistling and screaming like mad! ---- Where did our love go ----- Talking about Motown, the Supremes, Temptations Midnight Train to Georgia crowd just roared so I guess Clay did a pip move ----- EEEE! Pip Clay. I lurve me some Pip Clay... ----- Can't hear Quiana as clear as I could hear Clay... Midnight Train to Georgia. Lots of screams, imagine that is when Clay is doing his PIP thing! ----- Midnight Train to Georgia--- I love Quiana on this song better than IWALY, IMO. My Girl ----Clay make this sounds soooooo sexy. Is it supposed to sound that way? ----- The crowd is screaming at Clay's PIP moves My Girl now ----- My Girl! Carried out the "SO MUCH" and sounded fabulous! ----- Tears of A Clown -- I love this one for some reason! Ever notice how well he changes his voice here to sound so much like the original??? He does that a lot this tour. So Cool!! ----- can just see the way he sadly drags the mic offstage Rescue Me Jacob's hearing it through the grapevine. ----- If the concert seems to be moving fast it might be because it HAS to be over by 10:30 due to a noise ordinance. ldyjocelyn Posted September 1, 2005 Report Share Posted September 1, 2005 (edited) New Hampshire concert, August 27, 2005 Many people told me after this show that he sounded sick, that his energy level was off. Me, I was thrilled by the entire show and did not notice any problems. I guess I’m easy. couchie and I had 3 tickets between the two of us, so we decided to split the show. I sat for the first half in a seat that was 10th row center. Therefore, I got to see the pants up close (man, he is fine in them), and also got to see him even closer when he came two rows behind me for the husband bit. Fonzie developed nearsightedness during his break, for Clay had his glasses on. It did make for a bit disconcerting 50’s and Elvis medley, but after that point, I didn’t care. Remember, I said I’m easy. I love the man in glasses. IMO, the Motown medley was especially good with him in the glasses, for, as someone suggested, the hat/glasses combo really did make him look a bit like Bear Bryant! The vocal highlight for the first set, for me, is the Motown medley. Yes, it is true that Angela, Jacob and Quiana are spotlighted more in this medley…but when Clay sings, he wails. He’s got blue-eyed (or in his case, green-eyed) soul down cold. He could easily be a worthy successor to Darryl Hall. What always strikes me about the first set is the fun he’s having. He really seems to enjoy the early stuff so much, and it comes through vocally. The 60’s medley – I rest my case. For the second act, I sat in one of the side sections, 15th row, about 5 seats from the aisle. Totally different vantage point…but one that gave me some of the best looks at his face. You see, the jumbotrons in New Hampshire are HUGE, and that camera person just loved giving close-ups. Gah. His lips loosen up considerably for this section of the show, and his chattiness was freakin’ hysterical that night. When he bent over to look at Andy Abad’s dolls, he surely must have known that most of the fandom was having heart palpations. And then, the look afterward – “you all should be ashamed of yourselves.” Hee. Then, later, when he introduced Maureen…I could tell he really wanted to say that Maureen screams for his butt too, but was trying to like crazy to keep himself in check. But, in the end (ha ha), he couldn’t resist. I think Maureen might have been a bit embarrassed, but Clay certainly wasn’t. He’s got to be eating this attention up. The Terry banter was so sweet. I could tell that he just enjoyed having someone up front who would 1) just keep smiling and sweetly wave at him; and 2) not scream in his face if he met her later. The highlight of the second set, for me, was twofold – September is the first. That’s always been my favorite EW&F song, and he sings that song with so much fun in his voice. Add to that the dance moves, and I’m in entertainment heaven. The other was my first hearing of Tears Run Dry. On first listen, it is definitely the best of the three ballads, IMO. It’s got a nice rock edge to it, but also a very good melody line. Me likey. OK, so there’s a third highlight – BFM. I think I threw my shoulder out while I was pumping my fist in the air. That song just simply rocks, and I can’t wait to hear it on the radio, the radio, the radiooooooooooo! All too soon, the concert was over. This tour is such an enjoyable romp through time. Clay has become a true natural on stage…not that he wasn’t before, but his confidence level is at a new high. Thanks Clay. P.S. I think couchie should tell her M&G story. Not that I didn’t hear it 50,000 times over the weekend *g*, but it’s her story to tell. EEEEEEEEEE!
