    Foxes on Idol

Idol Chartwatch, May 28: Jennifer Hudson’s Single Debuts on the Charts

    by Donna Reynolds

After a respectable start, Clay Aiken’s fourth album, On My Way Here, took a hit this week, selling just over 20,000 copies and dropping from #4 to #18 on the Billboard 200. The album came in at #6 on Top Digital Albums and #6 on Top Internet Albums. Obviously, the Claymates can only carry their man so far, and if sales are any reflection, their numbers appear to be dwindling. It’s too bad, because this is a solid effort on Clay’s part and has some really, really nice tracks that are both melodic and meaningful. This is the album he should have released third, that’s for sure.

  2. Why did they use such a terrible picture on the AOL Sessions front page??? He sort of looks like a serial killer!
:cryingwlaughter: yeah, i think that looks more creepy than sexy.

    anyway...my thoughts on AOL sessions:

Ashes - not as good as the GMA one. his voice sounds a bit stilted and his body language restrained. Still, compared to other performances he had done when his voice wasn't up to par, it's still very good.

WIDTL - not as good as the QVC one with the same reason as above. the change-ups in the refrain didn't work well as lowering the note reduces the emotion a bit, but that's just me.

EIDN - now this one is GROOVIN'. He looks far more relaxed here than in the other songs. The whole performance makes me think a lot of impure thoughts. and he certainly has no hesitation singing the word "my bed" now. baby steps...baby steps...:D

SAU - i agree with ldyj...this song translates better live than in record. maybe because the way he makes us feel like we're the only woman in the room with the velvety-velvet voice and romantic eyeboinks. i only have 1 reaction to the live version and it's always "can i marry you?"

question: did anybody notice when he closed his eyes and did the knowing smile-lipbite combo after he sings "you knoooowww me weeellll" in EIDN? i think i'll make a gif of it.

    *gets busy*

  3. Forgive me, but I guess I just don't see what the value is in bringing stories like the one linked above around to all the boards???
laljeterfan, are you talking about the David A article i brought here? If yes, the reason is 1) because it has Clay mention and 2) it shows that he is not the only one facing these crap.

Yeah, I was referring to that article. I was debating saying anything, but one of my pet peeves is EVERY Clay mention, no matter how derogatory, being passed around the boards- and that includes nameless bloggers and bad jokes by late-night "comedians" and talk show hosts. I'm glad to see that I'm not alone in my dislike-(waves to Jamar and FromClaygary)

ah i see. I'm sorry if I made you guys feel uncomfortable with the article. As I said above, however, I brought it not just because of his mention, but also because it shows that he's not alone. Sometimes people asked why Clay seems to be the only one receiving all the crap (I have to admit i'm one of them) and this article might help them realize the bigger picture...this sad prejudice in the society. I pasted the whole thing so people don't have to click the links if they don't want it.

anyway, wishing you the happiest Birthday :F_05BL17blowkiss: sorry no balloons or pretty pix as I'm rushing to work.

  4. morning all!

look what i found...poor David doesn't know what he has gotten himself to.

Front & Center: Is David Archuleta... Gay?

Idol Runner Up Says He Has No Time For Girls

Will Archuleta Follow in Clay Aiken's Footsteps.. Or Just Come Out?

In a stunning interview after losing the American Idol crown, young David Archuleta, giggled and laughed when the subject came to girls. Suddenly, gaydar started humming around the world. Is he gay? Like, Clay Aiken, the runner up to Ruben Studdard, Archuleta is a tween hearthrob. But during the press conference he seemed to have even more in common with Aiken than meets the eye.

Sorry girls, Archuleta, 17, told reporters he doesn’t want to date. “I just don’t want to deal with that (girlfriend) drama right now,” he said. “I just want to be able focus on music. When I feel like I’ve met a girl who has a great personality, and who is someone I can connect with, and who has good standards for themselves and who has respect for themselves, and who cares for others as well…It’s just something I will definitely want to focus on later in life when I’m ready. But I just feel like I’m so young,” he said.

Too young? By the time most boys are 17 their hormones are raging and girls are just about all they can think of. Of course, Archuleta says he wants to focus on his career, but why would a girl friend interfere with that? It never stopped Steven Tyler. In any event, it all seemed a little too reminiscent of Aiken, who sexuality has been in question ever since he vaulted into the public eye. While Aiken has never addressed the issue in a straight-forward way, (no pun intended), it is generally accepted now that he is gay. And, he’s done nothing to counter that view.

Having an overbearing father is added fuel to that view. The shy teen tried to deny those stories. He said he found the stories about being bullied or made to cry by his father “weird.” “I heard one thing that he refused to give me water. That is the weirdest thing. I am 17. If I want water, I am pretty sure I will just go get it. He is a great guy. There isn’t anything that he has done that is bad… my whole family has been a great support. They are the ones that have kept me grounded,” Archuleta said.

At the moment, Archuleta’s sexuality is known only to him, at least publicly. His shyness shouldn’t be interpreted as anything but that. Not that there is anything wrong with being gay. But if he is, let’s hope he doesn’t pull another Clay Aiken and leave his public in the dark about it. It won’t hurt his career if he is, but endless speculation about it will.

bolding mine cos it reminds me of the Ariel Levy article. I guess no matter what your age, if you're a guy, you're supposed to talk about girls, girls and nothing but girls. and while David DID mention that he would like to meet a "girl" up there, nobody listens to him, of course.

  6. my 2c on Kimmel. i also don't think it's bad...but yeah, compared to previous Kimmel appearances, this somehow lacks energy. Maybe because they had too much to talk about in 10 mins...Spamalot, the album etc. It would've been much better if the bust segment had been eliminated to make more time for Ashes *sighs*, but maybe the Kimmel regulars would prefer the skit/silly jokes over 2 songs from an artist they barely know. I think the sweater was too baggy and the hair too yellow-ish...maybe it was the lighting, I dunno. But I like the interview and the Chinatown part...the idea that Clay probably drank the same throat elixir I drank cracks.me.up. :cryingwlaughter: As for the obnoxious fan behavior in Spamalot, I guess he zinged those fans but in a humorous way, which was very clever IMO. I don't feel offended at all by it...in fact, i find it rather funny. But then again, i'm not part of the Spamalot experience so I don't have the reason to feel offended.

And I want to kill whoever tells him to switch from the superhawt brown jacket and tees to the pale green sweater. Even if it's Clay himself :imgtongue:

the small bit when Ryan Seacrest mentioned Clay was a bit weird. It's like Ryan couldn't wait to get out of there or something.

I think what seem different for me was this time...clay was not an active participant of the big joke.
Well, i don't consider the bust thingy to be a joke or skit. It's similar to the tattoo girls segment from the ATDW Climmel and it's even shorter. Actually I think Clay pretty much dominated the whole conversation and Kimmel was just listening instead of milking it for laughs. He didn't even laugh when Clay said "that's me and my harems". Maybe he was tired or something...they only really bantered toward the end when they talked about Kipper and the clay Clay.

sorry if my grammar is all over place...it's been a long day.

  7. Anyway in some interview Clay said that Ashes may be the first single and some people latched on to that for dear life. Now wouldn't it be funny if RCA wanted it to be the first single and Clay fought them on it?
this is purely MO, but the way he included it in every appearance where he got to sing more than 1 song tells me that he'd like it as first single, too.

now can somebody tell me about the Octopus thing? I'm in another country and I have to wait until they upload it to the CU before watching. A couple of people said it might annoy some people and since I'm a Chinese myself that got my curiosity going.

ETA: Clay's wobbly voice. I remembered his voice wasn't in really good shape during ATDW promo either. I wonder if a lot of talking has influenced his voice in some ways. Strangely, he soared in songs that allow him to sing loud, like in Spamalot's Oy, Ashes and Easter Bonnet's The Prayer.

  8. recap of RR show from CB

Just saw it- but missed the first 2 minues- I figured he would be on later in the show not the first guest!!!

He had on that linen/denim jacket that he has been wearing (very well I might add). What I heard/saw was some talk about living in NY was better than he thought- he won't be running away from NY but running to NC. Loved that you could order in food all day and night as he doesn't cook. they talked about his accent- he mentioned a cousin who came up with a strong accent and the NY folks thought it was hilarious- he doesn't think he has an accent- he turns to the audience and asks them if he does. They laugh and Rachel says just a smidgeon. Talked about Spamalot- Rachel mentions he was great in it and had great reviews which doesn't happen often (or something like that). He said he enjoyed it and how they can change things up a bit and how he was just getting comfortable in his part and they kicked me off. Oh and how after he lands on the floor he watches the Prince Hebert scene and laughs.

Mention the cd- everyone in audience gets the cd and how it is life lessons (not sure that was the phrase though).

    It was a great appearance.

A brief summary...may not be in correct order.

Clay was on during the first few minutes. Segment was set up with video from Invisible, A Thousand Days and OMWH and still shots from Idol and UNICEF work . He seemed relaxed and talkative during the entire interview. He said he enjoyed doing Spamalot and found something new to laugh at during every show, even when he was lying on the stage watching the other actors. He also enjoyed living in New York, but is looking forward to returning to North Carolina.

They also joked about accents...he doesn't have one, of course. LOL.

He said that Idol is much more developed from a production standpoint from when he was on....his season sang with tracks, etc.

    Plugged the CD....journey...learning from experience.

Ended with pics and talking about UNICDF work.

    happy birthday Solo!!! :F_05BL17blowkiss:

Claygasm :console: we can worry together...

  9. p.s from SLC

I need to clarify. He did NOT say anything about one opening for the other.

The point of my post was the glimmer of hope for a fall tour.

He just happened to add the Tina Turner thing in, so I figured I would include it cuz it's just so weird. Like I said, maybe he got wrong info - maybe the guy was telling him Tina Turner was also touring at the same time and he misunderstood. Again, nothing was said about one opening for the other.

I will try to talk to him again soon to see if he can give me anymore info.

And although the stage is very high at this venue, it is a very nice place and you get a great view from anywhere in the theatre. I hope he is there cuz the only other comparable size place would be Mohegan Sun and you all know what it's like to try to get tix there....

  10. <-- i LOVE vengeful Clay, heh heh.

so many favorite moments in the show, but the highlight for me was when he slipped so effortlessly to his British accent. Mah God, it's no different than that spoken by the Harry Potter actors (i'm a big fan of the books and the movies). It just tingles my girly parts :lilredani:

ETA: from SLC at the CH

I just received some interesting information...

Take this with a grain of salt and for what it's worth.

My Mom's friend knows I like Clay and that's about it. He really has no reason to lie or make things up. So last night, she said he wanted to talk to me, but she didn't know why. So I get on the phone and he says, "Did you know that Clay Aikens [notice the "s" haha] is going to be at the Chevrolet Theatre in Wallingford, CT in the fall?" I said, "What? How do you know? When?" And he said, "I have season tickets and am friends with the booking agent, and he told me that he is going to be there at the end of September." And then he said something very odd. "He is going to be doing something with Tina Turner. She is kicking off a year long tour and will be a special guest of Clay's."

Then he said I could use his 10th row center season tickets. Haha

So that's it. That's all I know. Like I said, I don't know how true it is, yet he has no reason to lie, and maybe he got his information wrong. Who knows. I just thought I would pass it along.

I will give it a couple weeks and try to get more information out of him.

  11. I don't think touring helps album sales. Usually you go to a concert of someone you're familiar with and like, not someone you don't know. Its too expensive to go to a concert of someone you're not familiar with!

I don't think he'll sit idle until the end of the year. I am sure he'll do a Christmas concert tour. I suspect he will do something to promote the CD unless it has faded so far from view that TPTB give up on it. I am just not sure he will tour with it that soon.

But I could be wrong - and frequently am!

I never worried about any of his other albums but I never liked his others all that much! And I don't think if it does fail his career is over. NOt by a long shot!

I just think this album - and Clay - deserve success.

    :word:
  12. :F_05BL17blowkiss: sorry I haven't been here lately.

    People people people....

...he did NOT throw the edamame pod back into the glass. If you watch carefully, the blue glass NEXT the full glass is for the skins. Mo throws stuff in there too.

Sheesh. I thought Clay Aiken fans had better observation skills than that. I mean really...they can find Waldo ANYWHERE.

Of course, that's generally not too hard...heh, I said "hard."

    ldyj, you really cracked.me.up. :cryingwlaughter:

Hey, you stealer! I made that for meeeeeeeee!
LOLOL YSRN, i already thought you would respond when i saw muski's avvie.

    Bummer.

I was just over at the iTunes Store and the album OMWH has dropped out of the top 10! Its been there all week, but now its down to #11.

I keep promising myself I won't worry about the numbers, but I do. I am so afraid that even if does relatively well its first week, it will drop off severely after "we" all finish buying our 5, 6, 7, 25 copies.

I don't want this album to disappear. Its way to good for that!

Claygasm it's my worries too. I would rather the album having long legs rather than having explosive sales during the first week and then disappearing like ATDW.

I haven't shared this anywhere else, but I had a scary thought a few days back after reading Jaymes' first day sales report. I was afraid that the album would flop and that 5, 10 years from now we would hear Clay's songs in this album covered by "cooler" artists and become hits. I probably would kill myself if that ever happens!!! *cringes*

  13. we probably should just distribute Ashes clacks to NJUs. I have a feeling RCA is going to leave it up to fans to promote this great CD.

sorry guys...I haven't been here for a while and now I only have one pissy post. But i'm really disappointed at the TV promos. I didn't care about ATDW sales but I want this album to get what it deserves.
