  1. Rose Radio? Apparently an online radio station...I can't get it to play for me.

    Rose Radio Top 30 Chart - 11/18/08

Impressive that Clay has 3 songs in the Top 5, including the #1 position.

They are old covers though... I wonder why nothing from OMWH made it to the list.

Hee - I do believe Rose Radio is owned and operated by our very own FCA member roseviolet. Haven't seen her around in a long time though, so I might be playing a little fast and loose with the 'our very own' thing, lol.

Hi! I haven't been here in a while, but am still around. Yes, I'm still operating Rose Radio, though not as many people are listening to it anymore. Actually, more than 3 songs were in the top 30, but in order for the list not to be overwhelmed with Clay, I just list the top 3 of his songs that make the list. I do play him as often as I can on the playlist. There are certain rules I'm suppose to follow or I would play Clay all the time!

    :me0:

  2. I am not averse to the idea of a reunion tour. I think that would of been rather fun. It was how she announced it in her Billboard interview as fact and her label followed it up with a press release! Radio stations were already talking about it. I think Clay's response was clearly a reaction first to being blindsided by the announcement and then the need to quash the rumor firmly before it got out of hand.

  3. So what happened regarding KLo, so that we aren't supposed to like her anymore???

I have never been one to be hating on KLo, but I have to say I thought the whole "Reunion Tour" snafu gave me pause. Especially since she phrased it as a fact and not just as something she would like to do. But I would have to say that her going on to Perez Hilton's little show to dish on Clay and declare that they are no longer friends pretty much put the nail in the coffin for me. I just can't have much respect for her after that.

  4. merrieeee -- preorder from iTunes, wasn't that on the 21st? And of course QVC on the 28th. I've been keeping an eye on the Sony/BMG website too.
Coming out of lurkdom to say that I am loving all this PR. Will sales on QVC count toward Billboard ranking? I usually do not angst. but somehow, I am apprehensive about QVC. I know that Elton, Le Ann Rimes, and Neil Diamond have had success there selling CDs, but I remember Elton saying that he had to get used to writing music for other artists since his cds were not selling as well as before. Then he went on QVC, I think. Also, Neil Diamond's last CD was not selling that well either.

I just hope that Clay is getting the best of advice on how to market the cd so that he will benefit artistically as well as monetarily.. I feel that Clay is too young, too hot and too talented, and that this is his time to get the recognition as a recording artist that he deserves.

Do you mean Soundscan? Yes, a sale is a sale is a sale. It all counts. QVC is a great opportunity for exposure to a very large number of people is a short period of time. Especially for an artist like Clay who may not get much play on radio. Hopefully he will get radio play, but with his single coming out so late and targeting AC radio, where songs can take some time to catch on, radio won't be much help towards first week sales. He needs all the exposure he can get.

  5. Breaking in to let you know that I have programmed that show on Rose Radio using the (psuedo) Clay Amazon song picks. To fill out the hour, with the help of you guys, I have also chosen some other songs that Clay might of chosen... heck we can guess as good as anybody! *g* Anyways, it is programmed for everyday this week at 4:00 pm PDT. You can check the schedule here for when it will play your time.

  6. ETA: Roseviolet I have the Prayer from the Gala and it's pretty good quality. Since Clay asked us not to tape it, I just turned my camera on to video and taped it in my handbag. I never knew what to do with it so it's just sitting on my desktop.

You could upload it and someone could rip the audio from it. I couldn't use it on the radio station though. We are only suppose to use recorded tracks that are ostensibly available for sale. I'm kind of fudging it by playing a demo song (shhhh!) but I don't think I can play a bootleg track. Thank you though!

  7. roseviolet...you MUST include a Martina McBride song! He's said that he's always wanted to sing a song with her...

Oooh...How about a David Foster song Clay's mentioned long time ago? "Through the Fire" also one of my personal favorites.

And for a more upbeat song, any Maroon 5 song. I've always been curious about the song he may have passed up that might have gone to them.

I remember reading that sometime during or soon after American Idol, Clay said his favorite album was James Taylor's Hourglass. I don't know what songs Clay liked in particular -- but they're all primo James Taylor.

Thank you! This helps me out a lot!

  8. Okay, I'm thinking of going ahead with programming a show on Rose Radio from the Amazon psuedo Clay song picks, but there are only ten songs and I need several more songs to fill out the hour. I need some help picking songs that Clay may have indicated in the past that he likes. Sort of working our own list of Clay song recommendation. So far I'm thinking of using "The Prayer" by Josh Groban & Charlotte Church, "Homeward Bound" by William Joseph and maybe "Cry" by Faith Hill. Any ideas?

  9. Question re: widget....so I went to the website and downloaded it...it's now part of my Mac laptop "Dashboard"...but how do I get it to stay on my desktop? Anybody? :lilredani:

Wait...is it even POSSIBLE to put it on my desktop? You have to put it on a webpage, don't you? Well, I don't have a webpage. Can you put it on a webpage that you've set as your homepage? :lilredani:

As far as I know, it is a "Dashboard" widget that only show when you have your dashboard on. I don't think it is the kind that shows all the time on your desktop. I don't know if that is possible. I also don't think it is the type of widget for webpages. The ones I made are the type for webpages. It is a Flash file and you need the Flash player installed in your browser to see my countdown widgets. (I really appreciate everyone that is using them. It took me hours to find and troubleshoot the code to make them.)

Well I never talked to a DJ..just the person who answered the phone and took requests. We don't have to befriend them, get into debates with them about Clay..and why would any of us need to talk to station managers. But I don't think online fans give up their rights and have to sit back and do nothing. That's assuming WE don't listen to radio and I just don't believe that's true. I know I don't but I'm sure I'm the minority. And I'm smart enough to take on the snot nosed call screener. :cryingwlaughter: Basically, use common sense.

Ha! I remember requesting Invisible and not only did they play it, but they also put my comment on the air! Ack!

The whole radio request thing is a muddle and the DJ's didn't help by sending mixed messages to the fans. You can't say that you don't play a song because there are no requests and then get bent out of shape when fans start requesting. I guess, as in all things, there needs to be moderation and common sense. If a station has request lines, request forms on their website and request hours... then I think it would be helpful for fans to request. I think they should first wait for the song to be added to the playlist and if they are calling in a request that they should just stick to the request and not start lecturing the DJ about airplay, mediabase and what a stellar human being Clay is. Heh.

I will say that the idea that RCA wasn't supporting the song came from DJ's. A number of them did make that comment when questioned by fans. Fans did not pull that idea out of thin air.

I think fans can also help by participating in rating songs through sites like RateTheMusic and Promosquad. Even if they don't have Clay, we can favorably rate music similar to Clay's to give the programmers the idea of the type of music we want to listen to. Also, signing up as a VIP listener for your local radio stations can help. I signed up with KOIT in San Francisco, who never have taken requests, and they send me surveys similar to RateTheMusic to rate songs for them.

The Amazon song recommendation snafu has me wondering if I should go ahead with the programming event I was going to do on Rose Radio. I mean, if it really wasn't Clay would anyone really want to listen? I may go ahead and add them to the playlist since I already downloaded the ones I didn't already have. Pooh.

One thing that is interesting about internet radio. No one tells us what to play. I get a ton of requests by independent artists to play their music and there is some really good stuff out there. I do add some independent music every time I do new adds. So, if you are interested in hearing new music that you won't hear on traditional radio, try listening to internet radio.

  10. Hi again! I've been downloading the songs from Clay's Amazon music list to add to my Rose Radio playlist. However, he doesn't specify a song from Andrea Bocelli's album "The Best of Andrea Bocelli: Vivere". I need some help picking a song, so I have created a poll on my Rose Radio blog and if you would vote on your favorite it would really help me out. The poll ends Saturday night and I will be programming a Clay Aiken song list event to play everyday starting next week

  11. Hi everybody! Thought I'd drop by and drop off the link to the page of album countdown widgets I made just in case some didn't see it on other boards. Feel free to use them on your blogs and websites. Need a custom design for the site Couch Tomato?

Also, don't forget to listen to Rose Radio. (shhh! But the Constantine fans have been voting up their guy and voting down Clay. So, if you are a listener, be sure to give Clay the thumbs up when you hear him!)

  12. This is an internet radio announcement that will affect Rose Radio's broadcast tomorrow. More information and a list of participating stations can be found here.

The Sounds of Silence Will be Heard By Millions

National Day of Silence for U.S. Webcasters to be Held in Protest of Fee Hike

WASHINGTON D.C. – The regularly scheduled programming of millions of Internet radio listeners will be temporarily interrupted tomorrow when tens of thousands of U.S. webcasters observe a national Day of Silence. Protesting the recent 300 percent royalty rate increase for online music webcasters, the aim of the industry wide daylong blackout is to raise awareness of the threat these new rates pose to the future of Internet radio and rally support for legislation pending in Congress. "Webcasters of every size and from every corner of the country will stand united tomorrow to protest a very real and fast approaching threat to their livelihood,” said Jake Ward, a spokesperson for the SaveNetRadio Coalition. “With nearly a half million emails and phone calls from webcasters, listeners, and the artists they support sent to Congress in just the last two months, this national grassroots campaign has certainly captured the attention of lawmakers, but there is more to be done and time is running out.

During the National Day of Silence webcasters will urge their listeners to contact their congressional representatives and ask them to support the Internet Radio Equality Act and preserve the future of Internet radio. Tomorrow the silence of tens of thousand of webcasters will make the call to save Internet radio heard loud and clear.

Internet-only webcasters and broadcasters that simulcast online will alert their listeners that "silence" is what Internet radio may be reduced to after July 15th, the day on which 17 months' worth of retroactive royalty payments -- at new, exceedlingly high rates --are due to the SoundExchange collection organization, following a recent Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) decision.

  13. Just a note not to forget to listen in today for a preview of the new songs I have added this week to Rose Radio. This week's selections will include tracks by Diana Degarmo, Michael Buble, Paris Bennett, Jon Peter Lewis, Kellie Pickler, Corinne Bailey Rae, Sara Bareilles, Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood, Trace Adkins, and Bon Jovi. On Tuesday you can read more about this week's selections on the Rose Radio blog.

  14. I only get to go to one concert a tour. I do not mind at all that he does something different than he did at other concerts. In fact, it is those spontaneous moments, whether during a song or otherwise, that makes for some of the most memorable and fun parts of following the tour. If he happened to do that at the concert I went to, I would of enjoyed being part of a unique experience. Those who get to go to multiple concerts get the fun of seeing something a little different everytime. How cool is that?

Prince decided to perform a different set of songs at each concert during his tour in the UK. I wonder if his fans were disappointed that they got a different set of songs at their concert than what he did at another concert?

  15. ITA, cindlilu2, that Jaymes posted with Clay's blessing.

As we have seen in the past, a little bit of knowledge in the hands of the fans can be a very dangerous thing. The angst it creates can be devastating to Clay, and I offer the constant Album threads, warning of covers, as a prime example. I also firmly believe that the constant angst that the same few fans keep creating is why you will see safe generic blogs from Clay from now on.

Ah, but a lot of what caused the angst was not knowledge, but rumour and supposed insider information. I think angst builds most when fans speculate on something and build it up to a certain point, and then when the truth doesn't fit the rumour, it explodes. I do agree that Clay doesn't give much away in his blogs, but I think that's because, even though he's made a few references to not reading things into his words, people continue to do so. I will never understand why people can't just take what he says at face value. To me, it's a pretty common courtesy.

I agree. Jaymes did post with Clay's blessing. Fans continue to this day to beg for behind the scene and insider type tidbits. Everytime efforts have been made to do so have been cut off by some fan's reactions. I know that some are quite jealous of boards of other artists like Josh Groban. I believe that David Foster has shared and communicated with fans there. I would of loved it if Jaymes had been made to feel welcome at Clay own fan board. I'm sure that she wouldn't of talked about anything without Clay's approval. I agree that the tendency of a few to over react and to speculate and spread wild rumors over even the most innocent of comments by Clay have led to him posting these type of blogs. If you want people to trust you with personal information, you have to show them respect. There are a few who are relentless with their disrespect.

I get more the feeling that Clay is constantly growing in his art. Is he holding himself back? Maybe. Probably didn't help that people who are suppose to be his fans went way beyond constructive criticism and stomped all over his efforts on the script for JNT. Personally, I thought he did great with it and accomplished his goal of showcasing the songs in an interesting and fun way. JMHO

WORD WORD WORD! One of my biggest disappointments with this fandom (not Clay) was the JNT05. He reached out with his creativity and a good number of people smacked him down for it.

The problem with putting your creative efforts out there is that some will like what you do and some won't. If you're going to do it, you have to be willing to hear the bad with the good. We as fans are not obligated to love everything he does. While I applauded his effort, the JNT05 to me was bad. IMO, it was like watching a mediocre high school production, except the singing was a lot better.

Did some fans go over the top with their criticism? Sure, just like some went over the top with their praise! Happens all the time. I think its sort of like in some sports where they throw out the lowest and highest scores and then average the rest together. That's what I think any artist should do with criticism of their work - don't get too high from the gushing praise and don't get too low from the worst comments. Just look at what those in the middle have to say and take from it what you will.

I truly do not believe anything fans - or critics for that matter - say about Clay's projects will discourage him from engaging in the creative process again. However, I do hope he learns what works and what doesn't.

I did say they went way beyond constructive criticism. Some of the comments were disrespectful, hateful and relentless. That, in my opinion, was uncalled for. I'm all for honest opinions being expressed as I'm sure Clay is. What happened went way beyond that.

Ok, I am going to admit something here few know. I was at that concert where that kid sang with him on TITN and I HATED it! I kept thinking if this were the only concert I was going to and he ruined that song like that I would have been pissed. He could have brought that kid on stage at any other time, perhaps instead of the random person, and sang with him. He didn't have to do it the way he did. If that makes me a bad person, so be it. I feel for the kid and his family and I applaud Clay's huge heart, but I don't think he should have taken a song like that, one that so many looked forward to hearing him sing, and sing with the kid. JMO and all. And I know I wasn't alone in thinking that at the time.

Phew! Feels good to get that off my chest! They say confession is good for the soul!

Clay was granting a wish. Personally, I appreciate what Clay did for John and don't think it ruined the song at all. It was a unique and poignant performance.
  16. Roseviolet :bravo: to your comment at CV this morning!

The remark/blog comment was made that Clay "has waaaaaaay too much time" on his hands that might be better spent "writing songs or something."

LOL, Roseviolet's reply: I'm not sure how one can come to that conclusion. In any case, I'm sure he saves a lot of time by not surfing message boards.

    WORD, WORD, WORD!!!

Thank you. As KAndre observed, I found the comment to be more passive aggressive than joking.

For me its not that I want him to write songs...I just want him to open up his creativity. I do think that at times he is holding himself back. I also don't like the idea that he does not write because he does not think he does it well. He is very articulate and good at writing...I'm sure he can do good lyrics and even melody. And LAA proved that to me. I always thought that what held Clay back is his reluctance to fully open himself up and making himself vulnerable. That is why I was so happy to see him try and write a script for JNT and totally thrilled with LAA...I just knew that once he does try to write a song that it will truly be from the heart. So now...I am happy to wait for the next endeavour. It means so much to him so it is more precious.

JMHO

I'm also quite bitter that certain fans ran Jaymes off the board. It looked like she was willing to share some of what was going on in the background. What a wasted opportunity for us.

  17. Ahem..........Did someone mention "Seduces Me?" Now I must admit I have never heard Celine Dion's version, but I have heard the original by Alfie Anido. I never let a chance pass me by to mention rcknrllmom's montage, with this song.............It makes me melt and if Celine sings it better than this guy, then it should be labeled as lethal to your health:

    Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eGbx7zrkhk

Thank you. He is good, but sings a little too breathy for me. I think I like Celine's version better.

  18. Yeah, well I don't care how much money someone makes or how successful they are, if I don't like the sound they are making, I ain't buying!

Clay will always sound like Clay. Comparisons with Celine is only superficial. Love her or hate her, she has her fans and she is very successful. I think Clay could be just as successful. I don't like everything Celine does and her personality can kind of bug, but I just love her song "Seduces Me".

    Everything you are

    Everything you'll be

    Touches the current of love

    So deep in me

    Every sigh in the night

    Every tear that you cry

    Seduces me

    And all that I am

    And all that I'll be

    Means nothing at all

If you can't be with me

    Your most innocent kiss

    Or your sweetest caress

    Seduces me

    I don't care about tomorrow

    I've given up on yesterday

Here and now is all that matters

Right here with you is where I'll stay

    Everything in this world

    Every voice in the night

    Every little thing of beauty

Comes shining thru in your eyes

And all that is you becomes part of me too

'Cause all you do seduces me

And if I should die tomorrow

I'd go down with a smile on my face

I thank God I've ever known you

I fall down on my knees

For all the love we've made

    Every sigh in the night

    Every tear that you cry

    Seduces me seduces me

All that you do , , , .. Seduces me
