I agree that the lapel pins should be smaller. Less than 1" though and you have a "spot" on your shirt. 1" to 1.25" is good. I did one that was longer but it was a thin design so it didn't look like a big pin and worked.
The problem is, and something to keep in mind, that those lines need to be a certain width - by lines I mean the metal lines that are in between colors and outline the shape. So, if you have a lot of detail, the pin must get larger. Simpler is best I think.
Now the ornaments are different as they aren't meant to be worn but I think those stay within a 3" range if I'm not mistaken.
