  1. Saw Public Enemies.

    Mr. Depp was yummy.

Not sure if I liked the movie as much as I thought I would.

My grandson kept asking if I had ridden in cars like that (1930's cars!), I said amazingly enough, that was before my time.

He expressed astonishment at telephone dials with round holes, did they really work?

When I said I knew Dillinger would get killed, he accused me of reading moviespoiler.com.

The soundtrack is awesome, Billie Holiday, Diana Krall, other great jazz/blues folks.

Surrogates looks good, Bruce Willis looks alarming with a full head of hair, sort of sinisterly Gary Cole evilish, or something like that.

Couples Retreat looks funny, I like Jon Favreau.

  2. Don Henley's Dirty Laundry lyrics.....

I make my living off the evening news

Just give me something-something I can use

People love it when you lose,

    They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here

I just have to look good, I dont have to be clear

Come and whisper in my ear

    Give us dirty laundry

    Kick em when theyre up

    Kick em when theyre down

    ....

    Kick em all around

    We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who

    Comes on at five

She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam

    In her eye

    Its interesting when people die-

    Give us dirty laundry

    Can we film the operation?

    Is the head dead yet?

You know, the boys in the newsroom got a

    Running bet

Get the widow on the set!

    We need dirty laundry

You dont really need to find out whats going on

You dont really want to know just how far its gone

    Just leave well enough alone

    Eat your dirty laundry

    Kick em when theyre up

    Kick em when theyre down

    ......

    Kick em when theyre stiff

    Kick em all around

    Dirty little secrets

    Dirty little lies

We got our dirty little fingers in everybodys pie

We love to cut you down to size

    We love dirty laundry

    We can do the innuendo

    We can dance and sing

When its said and done we havent told you a thing

We all know that crap is king

    Give us dirty laundry!

  3. Just want to chime in with kf a bit - most of the singers I listened to in the 60's were black.

Rock and roll, Motown, that's what I bought, that's what was on the radio.

I grew up in and around Philly, looks like about the same time as kf.

I loved to watch MJ sing and dance right up until that car-smashing crotch-grabbing stuff. Then I just liked to hear him sing, I am not a fan of the crotch grab.

All the glorification doesn't bother me, though, because it hurts no one. And I suspect that Michael is getting a lot more understanding and support in death than he ever did in life.

The other end of that spectrum - someone is releasing a book that says MJ was skeletal and gay and had no voice left. Feeding frenzy.

Fact remains he was a fabulous entertainer. Period.

I caught a bit of the BET tribute and for some reason it creeped me out the way Jamie Foxx dressed up like Michael. I couldn't watch it.

  4. Idol made $903 million in ad revenue for Fox, 19 made $96 million from Idol stuff.

So while yes, that is obscene, Fox figures that Simon is the big draw and feels viewership would go down without him, and that means less ad revenue.

American Idol is a Cash Cow

Advertising revenue, which primarily benefits Fox Broadcasting, has grown in each of the last three years, according to TNS Media Intelligence, to $903 million last year. That is nearly double the level of three years earlier. Those figures do not include Fox’s ancillary sponsorship deals and other income, like royalties it receives from the sale of music performances by “Idol” contestants.

Even though “American Idol’s” ratings have declined, Fox has put more hours of the show on the air and has been able to charge a higher rate as its ratings lead over other shows has grown.

The revenue and profits of 19 Entertainment have grown even more quickly, according to the financial statements of CKX. Its revenues from “American Idol” alone grew to $96 million last year from $67 million two years earlier, with gross profit margins expanding to 77 percent from 69 percent in that span.

    Happy belated birthday, Fear!!!!!!

and here is a happy hamster dance!!!!!

    Happy Hamster Dance

  5. Saw The Proposal today. It was really cute and funny.

    Sorta fluff.

    But good fluff.

My 14 yo grandson really wanted to see that - because we saw the preview a couple of times, and he was convinced he would see Sandra Bullock nekkid. So we went, and the movie was really nice funny fluff, Sandra was not nearly as annoying as she usually is (she didn't cutesy-snort even once!), and she managed to cover all her lady bits while showing lots of skin.

Jacob is certain that he saw SOMETHING, so he was happy!

    Favorite lines -

    Sandra - But I can't swim!!

Ryan Reynolds - Hence, the boat.

We all laughed quite a bit, it is a fun movie.

The important fact that Public Enemy will be out on WEDNESDAY JULY THE FIRST!!!!!! is mentioned to me several times every day, so I suspect that will be our next movie.

  6. Well, the Magic won't be beating the Cavaliers any time soon, I think - Shaq got traded to the Cavs, and if Shaq and LeBron can manage to work together, the Cavs are sitting pretty.

I was kinda hoping Shaq would come back to Orlando, silly, I know!

  7. I don't think Susan Boyle is cut out for anything but a recording studio.

She obviously is not able to handle all the pressure of public appearances, and I somehow doubt that Simon will be bringing her over here if she is so unstable. I hope he does not.

    Happy birthday, Ansa!!!!!!

The Hamster Band would sing for you, but they are still hiding from Evil Catz.......

If you watch closely, Mr. Hamster will peek out and wish you the best!!!!

    cathunt.gif

I think that is a Paul Smith suit.......

  8. Okay, I love Jamie Oliver, a couple of his series have been shown on BBCA.

I loved the series about how he used some of his money to open a restaurant and train kids right out of jail or detention or whatever as chefs. Giving them a way to earn a living. He was so patient and enthusiastic with the kids.

And Oliver's series, the Naked Chef, was great - he cooked simple, natural food. With his clothes off.

    Just kidding!

I will not watch Jamie Oliver with Ryan Seacrest.

    Ugh.

Chopped still cracks me up - last night the judges expressed disgust over a chef using a tasting spoon, putting it down, then picking it up to spoon sauce on the plates.

Then they ate the food anyway.

The chef got chopped because of baby artichoke standoffishness, not hygiene!

  9. His numbers are not as good as last year. But he does show up to play a great team game.

I think he is like a Scotty Pippen or Horace Grant - awesome cast member, not a main guy.

He wants $30 million, and Orlando has to figure out if they want to pay the luxury tax, because that will put them over the cap.

    Thinks about own situation.

Wants to live in THAT neighborhood.

Or at least, get a job there!

  10. Hey, Couchie, congratulations to your Lakers!!!!!!!

Just as I predicted, Turkoglu is opting out of his contract, looking for a big wad'o'money.

    We did not get swept!!!!!!!

  11. Heh, LeBron will be going to the next team that can afford him, I think he will consider if he has a good supporting cast, like Kobe does, like Michael did.

Not that I think LeBron is in that class.

And the Lakers had to fight for that victory last night! I didn't watch much, I had a bad feeling.

I was working, and quit after the tenth server error, wasting too much time.

Hope we win the next game, I don't hope to win the title, though, am sincerely happy with not being swept. The Magic are a relatively young and up and coming team.

I bet Turkoglu will be gone this summer, too.

I just leave the SI page open for the live game feed - it self-refreshes almost continuously, and there is an ongoing comments feed. That's as much as I can take! It just has the score and time and quarter stuff.

Heeee......I do like the baseball feed with all the little x and o's running around the field!

  12. Really crappy day here, and I grumpily went up to the store.

On the way back, Cheap Trick's I Want You to Want Me played on the radio, followed by my all time favorite, Stones' Satisfaction.....and then, for no reason I can think of, I started contemplating the multitudinous and varied deaths of the Spinal Tap drummers, and now I am all cheery again.

Heeeee......Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood Mac "auditioned" for drummer, and they passed on him because he showed fear, and they couldn't have that!

Thank you soooo much for today's gifs!!!!!!!

  13. Here endeth my little rant. And my apologies to merrieeee and djs, because by talking about this, I ended up talking about AL. Hee.
    Bwah!

No, I know we go through something like this every AI cycle, some people find a new love, etc., and want their friends to come along or share, etc.

Heh, I don't understand the need for people to criticise A's lifestyle, or whatever, either, who cares? He is an entertainer, what he does in his life is not important, especially if ya don't care for his "product", it is like some people think if they don't care for a singer then NO ONE should. Weird.

But on some Clay boards people are discussing A in Clay threads as if how people feel or think about A is germane to something, I don't know what.

So yeah, I roll my eyes at the insistence that I (or whoever) need to reread some whole article or whatever to really understand where A is coming from.

Um, no I don't. Don't care, I don't like his music. So the rest - both the praise and the criticism - seems pointless.

Has anyone heard the new Iggy Pop cd? The little bit I heard made me want to yell stop.! And not in the name of love.

For heaven's sake, DO NOT say he makes your ears bleed.

  14. Is this an AL free-zone? I'm looking for one *g*

    Heeeee......I hope so!

I am quite puzzled as to why I need to have any opinion about him at all, much less read about him - it is mystifying! and dare I say pointless!

Even though I participated in what was I am sure very tedious to some Leonard Cohen talk, I don't really care if other people don't like him, that seems silly.

I loved all the Clay gifs last night!

My basketball team won! We will not be swept!!!! (I have learned to set the bar pretty much down on the ground for this stuff :-O)

I called my congressperson and gave dire warning!!!!

    Now I will start working.

  15. crappity crap crap. (I have that trademarked).

okay okay - looking on the bright side - people with ticket stubs can get a free taco at Taco Bell, because the Magic scored over 100 points.

Hee.....I keep expecting Reggie Miller to run out and somehow shoot a four-pointer.

    Oh YAY!!!!!!!!!! No sweep!!!!!!!!

Damn, I wish I could go to the next game, but the prices are horrendous.
