Merrieee frantically waving!  Remember me?  Well life has been just crazy lately. My daughter is smack in the middle of chemo and radiation for her cancer. Monday thru Friday we drive to MDAnderson Cancer Center (60 miles round trip).  At least we get the weekend off. She’s been doing pretty well considering. She completely lost her sense of taste and is eating very little. We found these high calorie shakes that are 530 calories earealltlych and she struggles to drink them. Luckily she’s not been sick too many times but this wears her out so much she does nothing but sleep when we get home.  We made the decision to stay in a hotel a couple of days a week so that’s a bit of a break  She is put in an MRI machine when she gets her radiation.  There are only 10 machines in the whole country that do this so they keep telling her she’s “special”.  10 more week days to go!
On top of this I ended up with a hole in my right retina!  No idea how it happened but I’ve had to use eye drops for 3 months. Of course they are not covered by insurance and they are $300 a month!  But they are working and the hole is closing so thank goodness I have avoided surgery.  Since I am blind in my left eye I could have ended up losing all my vision so it was pretty scary.
    Talk about stress!\

Lordy, merrieeee, you and she are going through it. I'm so glad you didn't lose your vision--how terrifying. And your daughter is going. through. it. I really feel for her. And you. Sending many and continuing healing vibes!!

  2. I'm about to go on a journey that will risk exposure to large and small groups of people, some without masks, some of the time. Not a choice I would make on my own, but I was invited many months ago, and it wasn't something I could comfortably cancel. It's not a cruise, thank goodness, not that risky. Just a shared dining area with dozens of people, and smaller groups at other times. There is a plane ride home at the end, which I will mask for of course. But hard to mask when you're eating and staying with other people. So I'll let y'all know if it gets me. I tried to get a second bi-valent booster just as an extra precaution, since I have had one already, 6 months ago. It was a "no" unless my doctor agrees to write me a prescription by tomorrow at closing time at the pharmacy. Oh well. It's not as scary to me as the old days, and there is Paxlovid too, so I don't think I'll die from it, and I already live with significant post-viral illness so whatever.

If you, Fear, weren't severely ill from it, and Mr. Fear made it through with no symptoms, that's very encouraging!!

In other news, I'm going to sell my house and move one of these days, sometime this year probably, and today I looked at a high-rise apartment building at a great location in Chapel Hill, near where I lived before, near a zillion restaurants, as well as an easy walk to Whole Foods and Traders Joes. It's very tempting. It would be like of like living in a hotel with a much bigger room. Anyway, a guy who is one of the managers took me on a tour today, and turned out to be a delightful young man who went to Leesville High School. And grew up in Raleigh, as I did (a few years apart, lol). He's also a student at UNC currently in a class he LOVES with a former colleague of mine. So that was a great connection.

Y'all keep the fort, and send the COVID inhibiting vibes!!

  3. This has probably already been posted, but this just showed up in my google news feed:

Ignore the video - it's about something else.

WTVD may be boosting it because of the upcoming interview, so I will too.

While I'm here, I'll mention that I'm on the mailing list for Koko Booth, and seems like every email they send has the promo ad for Ruben and Clay!

After 2 years and 11 months, I’ve caught COVID.  I’m waiting for my Paxlovid script to go through.  In the meantime, I didn’t sleep well at all last night.

But I hope everyone else has a great day.

So sorry to hear that. I had just started to get a bit lax with my mask wearing until I read this. Not any more!! Please let us know how you are feeling. COVID can still be a bear.

Has anyone heard how the woman,  that beat Clay in the primaries, did in the general election?

Things have not gone so well for the crypto-ex-billionaire who was backing her. He lost all his billions in one day (except for whatever he may have managed to steal and stash away) and is in beeg trouble with the law. Karma is still Clay's bitch.

  6. A bit of a tangent, but this is a good article about the crypto-billionaire who backed Valerie over Clay and Nida. I so wish Citizens United would be overturned. It just doesn't seem right to be that a single individual can have this kind of power--as Koch, Adelson, and others have had.
