Argh, well at least it's over. Not sure that anyone else will do worse than I just did, but I guess we will wait and see.
I know that feeling!! Good luck!

Still at work and extremely nervous about that training I'm going to give the next 3 days -- first time in a huge training center, wearing a pack, etc. I'm sure I'm going to do something crazy like forget to switch it off and then head to the ladies room...
Good luck! I think it sounds like fun. And if you forget to turn it off, you won't be the first one (*remembers reporter at CNN*)

<snip> But then, Houston has never been a hotbed of anything except maybe frying eggs on the sidewalks. It's just too diverse and friendly a place for all that controversy crap.
on frying eggs on the sidewalk. I think the heat makes people really friendly too. *g* People are too busy trying to stay warm where it's cold to talk to each other.

Did anyone ever tell you that dreams are really good for expanding your mind and being open to other possibilities? Maybe you should try exploring the world of dreams, and that is encased in something called "sleep". *g*

<snip> Because I'd love to "tell" PBS that I like Clay and would like to have more programs from him on their channel. I think it will be interesting to see how many other fans would do this. But -- I think the point of a PBS special is to get OTHER people to appreciate Clay, and I think that would work spectacularly. JMO of course.
Me too!
ausdon, sorry to read about your back, and annabear, {{hugs}}, keep counting the days until Christmas and let's hope for a happy new year (I wonder where this year has gone to too!).

Oh, and I promise not to drive!!! (except that I'm probably the only one in the eHP who knows how to use a stick shift...)
I'm impressed! "Cute and helpless", huh? *g*

ldyj, love the "new' bath pics! The rose color seems so energizing. It looks like the type of bathroom to make you want to go out and face the world. *g*.

couchie, great news on the insurance and the pills.

{{jmh and family}}, my sympathy and best wishes for strength at your time of loss. So sorry to read of your mother's passing.

This is kinda gross and funny so skip if you hate gross. I was leaving to pick up the kids. Had just left my house and was almost to the freeway.. running a bit behind as usual..all of a sudden I noticed my nose was bleeding. What to do. What to do. Too late to go home. So I keep driving. Ask my mom to look around for tissues, napkins, anything. Lord knows I buy enough happy meals these days. Nothing. Meanwhile nose is dripping. I'm wiping it with the back of my hand. I'm really a mess. Then I remember I have a sanitary napkin in my purse. Yes you got it. for the next 15 minutes I had peices of Always in my nose. Had my mom go into the school and get me some wet paper towels to clean myself up. It's been that kind of day.
On an episode of Sex and the City, a cut tampon was used to treat a bloody nose. When I was contemplating deviated septum surgery, the doctor also described the recovery as having a tampon in my nostril.
couchie, between the bloody nose and the flat tire, you have had a tough week!
I would like to get an H1N1 shot, but nothing is available in my area.

Happy Birthday cindilu!
O/T: If interested in women's empowerment and hearing the thinking of some very prominent speakers, the Women's Conference 2009 is streaming live today from the West Coast (an afternoon session on grief, healing, and resilience is supposed to include Lisa Swayze, Patrick's widow):

<snip> It's been 7 years people, if you don't know Clay Aiken by now...you never will.<snip>aikim, I googled your error message (which is usually quite helpful) and found this for you:.
ldyj, I imagine that you are very good at the reference desk *g*
I think combining these two observations makes for another interesting comparison to a legal distinction:
To be clear, Clay can go on Broadway again, do a talk show, take a recurring role in a TV comedy, record every couple of years and tour occasionally while spending most of his time working with National Inclusion, or blow up to the heighths of all glory with adoring multitudes and paparazzi camped on his front lawn; he can sing classics, new songs, obscure oldies, write all his own material, or never write another song. I'm along for the ride and I appreciate how cool he really is. Not transitory/popular cool, but inner cool. I trust that he knows who he is and what he wants and how to get it. I draw no lines in the sand. I'm not open to disappointments regarding what he does with his singing stardom. I just ask for more recorded music to increase his repertoire and my choices. And I'm going to get it! YAY!!!Hold your hair back - I'm doing analogies again! I think of performing artists sort of like chefs (what can I say, I've been distracted by Mark Dacascos on DWTS - he is seriously tasty - and no, I have no idea if he can cook). I feel like some fans think of Clay as a catering chef - ultimately he needs to provide what you order. There may be a little leeway in the choices (I want chicken; do what you want to to it but it must be CHICKEN! No beef, no alligator, no tofu!) but the chef has a bridezilla and minions to please and the other guests better learn to suck it up. I think Clay is the chef of his own restaurant - doesn't look like franchising is in his future (no commercial KFC for Clay - even though he probably likes KFC as long as the chicken's hot), no Bobby Flay/Morimoto/Wolfgang Puck empire, but a nice place that has had some nice write up, a fair number of locals like it, and some know and love the chef's food enough to eat off menu (like the Gala). The difference between an employee and an independent contractor. An employee works at the employer's direction whereas an independent contractor works at his/her own discretion to create a result within certain boundaries. In other words, "you don't own me" is appropriate as Clay or any other artist is akin to an independent contractor with their buying public (* "You Don't Own Me" just happens to be another song I love too; another old soul, musically who is completely in love with "Moon River"*)

I loved ALL the songs from last weekend including GOG that seems so forlorn right now since everyone is swooning over MR & MEAY. *pats GOG*
(*gives Scarlett an inclusion brownie point*) Thanks for the MR download! For me, MR was a consummation devoutly to be wished (*I was waiting forever for this*).

Miss Scarlett, I love your categories. You missed your calling as a journalist or writer. Title-wise, you are running with "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", "War and Peace" and "Sense and Sensibility". I think "The Sad and the Schmoopie" has a certain je ne sais quoi , don't you agree? *g*
Moon River has been lovingly on repeat for the past hour. I love the guitar interlude too, and the voice, as ever, is sublime.

Goldarngirl... Happy Belated Birthday!!! So we have Keepingfaith on 10/3, me on 10/4, and Goldarngirl on 10/5. That's quite a string. Anyone today???
October 5 has been called the most common birthday based on a survey done a few years ago. It is also nine months after New Year's Eve.

It's pretty quiet in here, so I thought I'd post a link to a long profile of Neil Patrick Harris in New York Magazine.
Very interesting article. Thanks for posting it. I liked this quote, regarding NPH's magic hobby:
An obsession with magic requires a particular personality type: the nerd extrovert.Scarlett, yep, Swayze was born in Houston, from wiki:
Patrick Swayze was born on August 18, 1952 in Houston, Texas, the eldest child of Patricia "Patsy" Karnes (born 1927), a choreographer, dance instructor, and dancer, and Jesse Wayne Swayze (1925-1982), an engineering drafter.[7] He had two younger brothers, actor Don and Sean Kyle (born 1962), and two sisters, Vicky Lynn (1949-1994) and Bambi, who were adopted into the family.[8] Although the surname "Swayze" is of Welsh origin, the family is of mainly Irish descent (possibly with some Apache roots).[9]Until the age of 20, Swayze lived in the Oak Forest neighborhood of Houston, where he attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, Oak Forest Elementary School,[10] Black Middle School,[10][11] and Waltrip High School.[10] During this time, he also pursued multiple artistic and athletic skills, such as ice skating, classical ballet, and acting in school plays. He studied gymnastics at nearby San Jacinto College for two years.
In 1972, he moved to New York City to complete his formal dance training at the Harkness Ballet and Joffrey ballet schools.

for annabear! So sorry to read that you were off work for two weeks and developed pneumonia. I've found I have to take antibiotics almost as a precaution when it seems I'm coming down with something. Glad to read that you are on the mend!
Happy Birthday luckiest1!!!
