  1. OK, here it is - not smithsonian. The Alan Jabbour Duplication Project Collections Alan Jabbour recorded Henry Reed as part of a series of recordings in the Upper South, 1965-68. Jabbour was a graduate student at Duke University at the time, and used his own equipment, supplies, finances, and time to record Henry Reed and other fiddlers on nineteen 7-inch reels taped at 7.5 ips (inches per second). The original recordings remain the property of Alan Jabbour, but in 1967 and again in 1969, he brought the tapes to the Library of Congress for duplication in the Recording Lab of the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division and accession into the Archive of Folk Song (now the American Folklife Center's Archive of Folk Culture). Because the tapes were accessioned in two batches, there are actually two Alan Jabbour Duplication Project collections: LWO (for Library Work Order) 5031, encompassing AFS series 13,031-13,037; and LWO 5379, AFS series 13,703-13,709. LWO 5031 Accessioned in June 1967, LWO 5031 consists of seven 10-inch reels at 7.5 ips (approximately fourteen hours of sound recordings), containing instrumentals performed on banjo, fiddle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, and harmonica, recorded in North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia by Alan Jabbour, October 2, 1965-April 1, 1967. The collection includes one linear inch of manuscript materials, including fieldnotes, logs, and tune transcriptions. The performers featured in this series are: Joseph Y. Aiken, Romie Aiken, D. M. Andrews, Andrew Bennett, Lester Brooks, Maurice Carden, Kemp Chambers, Tinsey Clapp, Harlan Coble, William Alonzo ("Lonnie") Corsbie, Harry Dixon (Dickerson), Ed Hall, Albert Eli ("Uncle Abner") King, John Lewis, Vaughan Marley, Ross Miller, Fred Phillips, Kilby Reeves, Earl Shatterly, and Edsel Terry, of North Carolina; Oscar and Eugene Wright, of Princeton, West Virginia; and Henry Reed, of Glen Lyn, Virginia.
  2. This is what I found listed Aiken County String Band Appearance as principal performer 1. High Sheriff, Roots N' Blues - The Retrospective (1925-50), Columbia Legacy 47911/47912-15, Cas (1992/reis), cut #1.02 2. Soldier's Joy, Old Time String Band Classics, County 531, LP (197?/reis), cut # 9
  3. What was the typewriter again? wasthat the wiggly dance? He made Angela do it for his Christmas present. Aw his grandfather wants him to sing a blue grass song. Didn't Clay's Great grandfather and great Uncle get recorded for the Smithsonian historical folk music collection?
  4. The banter should be really good tonight.
  5. I forgot to add, last night, Fear said there were no standing ovations, just thre first few rowa, whre the cellcerters sit. She was further back. SO I asked her to look back today for me. She said there was cheering, whistles and hooting from the entire audience. I forgot to ask if there were any ovations though. They just totally fell for the second place lines. add bottlecap to the people I have to meet some day
  6. EBirds mother is a smutter, too? Live and learn. I could have gone to Raleigh, I helped buy the tickets for Fear. I just did not want to leave home so near Christmas. (and I could not find anyone to take the dog from hell, my little sweetie). I don't know if beer was an issue, but Fear's friends were drinking Pina Coladas.
  7. Fear says hello and that the concert is great!!!! She can see Clay's grandfather, but she did not know who he was, just some white haired guy sitting in the aisle. Her 3 friends are loving this show, so much, that Fear thinks that she will not have to give them CDs for thier birthdays or holidays this year, they all are ready to buy their own. They can't get near merchandise, it is a zoo and it was yesterday, too. He is going all out with his voice tonight. They are in the 6th row and feel really close. She said they all notcied that Clay broke character and waved, but they did not know why, until I told them. She was quite impressed that this place was packed. Flashes are going off all over the place, in the upper seats. The ushers were very insistant about the tape on the camera, they made her show them that the tape was over her flash and even take a picture to prove it would not flash.
  8. OK, who is going to post about Clay's grandfather?
  9. Cellcert starting to fade in and out. I always think this is the saddest song in the whole concert/show
  10. Clay really has become a master of the final note. I love the way he ends each song. Oh No, I forgot how home town would react to these little jokes about second place. eta - gud spling is a gud ting. I just remembered this is the teachers and Gregory's hometown as well. There may be long intros tonight,.
  11. am trying hard not to post anything about Charlotte that Fear said to me today, she is coming to do a recap tomorrow. But she was a vignette virgin (turned down the cellcert when it was not singing so she has a fresh view. I love them jingler bells. It really gets people bouncing. This song alays is very romantic.
  12. BWAHAHAH, Jojoct will be getting teased about that oen for a while - yup, nothing is as important as Clack. Doesn't Clay's grandfather have Alzheimers?
  13. What did I miss? My aunt called and I missed the cellcerter. Had to summarize the last year for me, my sister and my brothers for her. EEEEEEEEEEEEIt's starting
  14. Damn, the oddest thing happened, a gnat just felw up my nose? I wonder if that means something - first it is cold and I have not seen flying bugs like that around. The venue was filling in nicely before the RBC turned off the camera. What is going on with the cellcert - Is GBB smutting?
  15. OK, Clay radio is up. Too bad about the RBC center, it certainly had a better picture than the previous dot cert.
  16. I keep getting cell stream not found! I got nothing. Oh bummer, theyturned offthe video!
  17. I have neither cell stream nor Clay radio Fear is the 3rd back up CH cell certer - I asked her to call me at intermission if she is not needed for CH
  18. I am watching, I am watching -Wheeee A cell stream and a dot cert simultaneously - what fun! Is it my imagination or is the image much more detailed now?
  19. Well, thank you all for that. I will bug Sandy to post her recap here after I go back and edit out some remarks I made about her... hehe.
  20. Bwah, do we hear crying - so sappy just for all us saps.
  21. AH, here is where the music experts must weigh in - the first noel - Is it changed again.
  22. Well, from all reports, Clay and the venue are raking it in from the merchandise stands.
  23. I don't mind if Faye know what a cell cert is, I am not so comfortable with them know ing what a cellstream is.
  24. Fear must have her phone on vibrate or not have it. She is not answering. Actually this is pretty funny because whenever we go to concerts together, she ends up with her phone dialing me while we are in concert. The first few times she nudged me and said that my phone should be off, but when I looked at the phone, I could see that she was calling. After that, she realized that she needed to turn off her phone, when mine started ringing. What a happy cellcerter. Yay, Martha picked my person. I have to run off to TWO in the second half to cheer.
  25. I am going to wait a few minutes before calling - Martha is about to make her decision on her apprentice.
