Adriatic Blue #94b3ed I bolded the font because it's so pale. I'm not certain that's it, and an not even sure where I found it. It's Pantone #17-4320

CG, we've talked about the venue, World Cafe Live. I just got an email from them saying that Ben Taylor, son of Carly Simon and James Taylor, will be there later this month. Although I have some of his music and like him, I'm not that interested in seeing him live. I checked on seat availability, though, out of curiosity,and there are such great seats open. Can you imagine Clay in that environment? It is one of my dreams.

I know many women in their 30's who are just now ready. To this point they were focused on education or career, or maybe just growing up. I know of 2 who just had their first children at 38 and 39, and one who is trying for #2 at 41. Things are changing.

I must have misunderstood this part. I thought you were suggesting Clay couldn't sing about a sexual relationship with a woman because he's gay. Did you mean a sexual relationship in general--as in man or woman? I wasn't suggesting what Clay could or couldn't sing. I totally respect his choice to sing what he wants. And I also respect others' feelings that what he sings doesn't have to reflect his thoughts. It's just a personal reaction to music that I have. I see singing as different from acting. When someone is acting, they are playing a character that isn't them. Of course they bring themselves to the part, but still, they're playing someone else. I personally prefer to hear people sing things that they think or feel. I know that's not a universal preference, it's just mine. If Clay, as a gay man, sang in the first person about a romantic relationship with a woman, I wouldn't find it believable, and might not enjoy it. Who knows? I haven't heard him do that. I might change my mind. I know the first person thing will push some buttons (not necessarily yours), but it's operative, IMO. Singing about something (as is the way I hear She Says) is very different to me. Again, it's just the way I react to music. It's not about sexuality. Clay's sexuality is immaterial to me. As I said when he first came out publicly, it's just another facet of a fascinating man. I would imagine that much popular music is sung by artists who don't think anything remotely related to the lyrics. That doesn't matter to me because I don't listen to most popular music. As for love songs, I hope to hear many from Clay. Nothing anyone sings needs to be personal to me. I like to think it reflects them in some way. Naive, perhaps. I'll admit to that. I appreciate that you asked for clarification.

I totally agree about not viewing things through a gay lens. One facet, as he said, and certainly not what defines him. I see nothing different in Clay. Yes, he has been looking joyful, nothing new there. But, I see singing as a form of self-expression, and lyrics as communicating a message. I know others think differently, but there is something about singing lyrics that don't ring true that doesn't work for me, whether they be about a sexual relationship with a woman or anything else that wouldn't fit for a given singer. If Clay started singing about partying all night (unless it's in jest), I wouldn't find that credible. The phrase "keeping it real" has merit, IMO. Love songs - absolutely. I expect them and look forward to them. I know we've had this discussion before, and I realize that singers perform songs they might not like or relate to for whatever reason. I realize entertainment has a component of acting. I still don't see it that way. Or at least, I don't want to think of it that way.

I really, really don't like it either. Never did. But.... that would never keep me from letting my biases rule my opinion.

A love song is a love song. Gay love song? Straight love song? Love is love. I don't get the difference unless the pronouns are specific and they often aren't or don't need to be. The lyrics of When a Man Loves a Women are not in the first person until the end, and then they could refer to any sort of relationship. Totally different from something like Touch, IMO. I agree with KF. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Touch was too blatantly about a sexual relationship with a woman and it just didn't fit for Clay.

Isn't judgement an acceptable alternative spelling to the more common judgment? I always leave the 'e' in as I prefer it that way, and it fits the rules of spelling in the English language. I've looked it up before to be sure it was accurate. I wonder what I found out and if I just chose to ignore it? I thought I caught a thats for that's. It's the former teacher in me that causes those things to pop out, and I couldn't care less about them. What's odd is that I now make errors of that type and I never did before. He keeps dressing like that and he’s not going to be allowed to be gay. <g> That outfit was pretty bad.... But, not all gay guys know how to dress. I could provide some horrid examples from a friend of mine, who not only has bad taste in clothing, but buys really poor quality, and he doesn't have a financial excuse. At least we know Clay goes for the good stuff. Poor quality doesn't matter so much when things are cute, but when they're fugly, its just adds another dimension of wrong. I love Clay's sense of style. It's entertaining. He's one of a kind.
