  1. Cotton I love Greg Isles' books. Haven't read Footprints of God yet, but it is here in my latest aquisition stack. I'm reading The Quiet Game at the moment. Fear, know you're busy with the elections. Good luck with your candidate on Tuesday. Love the photos of Clay laughing...he really does have an amazing smile.
  2. I am really late posting this...but I was sick last week after the Gala and this total techie novice was also trying to launch a temporary website-and NO luckiest you are so not off the hook, I desperately need your expertise, this is just "make do" until you can help me get something....ummm....uniform. And a real navigation bar with actual buttons. Between those things, gearing up for WFI and trying to launch the "Deck the Halls 4 Inclusion" project, this sick chick has had her hands full. :nature-smiley-014: Anyway, I just wanted to say how lovely it was to meet all of you at the Gala and the brunch. I won't name names at this point becaue I know I will leave someone out, but thank you so much for warmly welcoming me. I'm just sorry it took me so long to get this posted. And Cotton, I hope that your foot is all better now. I am sure that you have posted about it, but I am seriously behind and PROC training has been cast aside for the moment or I'd never get this posted at all. I'm hoping we can do it again...and really SOON. But I have decided that next time we need to find a way to get more of FCA there. In fact, in the interest of fairness, I'm thinking we need to establish a "no FCA member left behind" policy. What. :thpp_blinkie_1087: Are you listening gorgeous guy with the smattering of freckles and the deepest green eyes this greeneyed gal has ever laid eyes on? Anytime you want to announce those plans would be mighty fine. The sooner the better, though. And no, NOT Aiken soon. We need a tour in 2009. Annabear is absolutely right about how mesmerizing and beautiful Clay is in person. And he has the most beautiful skin, too. I did finally post the Deck the Halls info in the TBAF forum. I just wanted to mention it here, though, because I do consider this my home board now, and this is something we hope to make a national Beta Alpha fundraiser next year. The info is in the post and on our website BUT you must use the link provided if you order online or TBAF won't get credit-it has our customer ID in it. I have to say this because a blog posted an incorrect link and the company has sent several emails telling me that MY blogspot link is incorrect.lol They have no idea, do they? TBAF gets $9 for each wreath ordered and $13 per wreath for bulk orders (8 -10 wreaths shipped to one address.) And the bulk order wreaths are also $5 cheaper per wreath. And the most important thing is that the rate that you see is complete-it already includes shipping and the donation. So if you do a bulk order and get a $29.95 wreath, you-or a giftee-basically get a beautiful, handmade, natural wreath for $16.95 beccause TBAF gets $13 of that. The details are all in the TBAF forum. I will return to my emails and "stuff" but cindilu, that banner is proving quite the distraction. Love me some Jukebox Clay. And you may take that however you choose. *wink wink* Fear and Annabear expect a PM from me tonight
  3. Deck the Halls 4 Inclusion A TBAF Approved Holiday Fundraiser Triad Voices for Inclusion, a Beta Alpha of The Bubel/Aiken Foundation, is proud to introduce "Deck the Halls 4 Inclusion" a holiday fundraiser in conjunction with Rockdale Wreaths, a Maine company which produces beautiful, handmade, natural wreaths. This year, as you begin to decorate your homes and offices for the holiday season, and prepare to exchange gifts with family and friends, we'd like to invite you to help The Bubel/Aiken Foundation provide an additional gift: the gift of a more inclusive life experience to children with and without disabilities across the nation For each individual wreath purchased through "Deck the Halls 4 Inclusion" the Bubel/Aiken Foundation will receive $9. Bulk orders, 8-10 wreaths shipped to any one address, not only saves you $5 per wreath on the purchase price, but also benefit the Foundation even more, bringing $13 per wreath. All prices, both here and on the website already include shipping built into the price. If you are placing a bulk order and have a Beta Alpha affiliation, please let us know and we will make sure the additional $4 per wreath donation is credited to the Beta Alpha of your choice. Please note: if you place a bulk order online with Rockdale please email us the details of your order-name on order and Beta Alpha affiliation-so that we can ensure that you receive Beta Alpha credit. 4. It wasn't me. I haven't posted much this week. Someone jokingly told me my screen name here should be lurksalot or some such. :lmaosmiley-1: At least I think it was a joke...it WAS a joke...right? Real life stuff has been really bad this week, so I have been reading y'alls comments, just couldn't seem to find words myself. Sorry. Won't bore you with most of the details except to say I actually thought about staying home this weekend...yeah, THAT BAD...of course Claylove threatened to come and drag me down to Raleigh anyway, so I will be in Raleigh and sans ropes. We are all blessed in our friends, are we not? :F_05BL17blowkiss: FromClaygary..safe journey. See you tomorrow! Fear...I think we established that I will ride home with you after the brunch on Sunday-at least , I hope we did. Much as I'd like to stay an extra day with Lori, I don't think my mother really wants to have to sit my dogs another day alone. lol I am looking forward to seeing all of you....and Parker's Daddy, too. So bring it! Lordy, I NEED this weekend! :babies_82:
  5. Small world is right. My Dad's family is from Granite Quarry! That's just outside of Salisbury, for those not from around these parts. Think Mayberry, only much, much, much smaller. LOL. The township has grown up a lot, in recent years, though. I understand they even have a Harris Teeter now...can you believe that? My Gran , who will be 102 years old this month, still lives there. :PickMe-1: Fair warning, I'm a historian. Boring answer ahead, but just remember, you did ask for it. LOL. Origins of the word tarheel: From it's inception, NC was a chief producer of tar for the colonies. One of the earliest references to the word "tar heels" is a Revolutionary War legend which alleges that some pesky "tarheels" poured tar in a river to impede the crossing of General Cornwallis and his British troops. Needless to say, early usage of the word tended to be as a pejorative along the lines of "white trash." It wasn't until the Civil War that the word "tarheel" gained positive meaning, when regiments from North Carolina gained a reputation for sticking like tar on the battlefield, refusing to give up or retreat. When General Robert E. Lee himself praised this quality in North Carolinians and said "God Bless the boys of the tarheel state" the name really "stuck." Thus endeth our history lesson for today. Amen. Annabear, thanks for heads up on the Fieldnotes. It's always great to have an opportunity to get a feel for the places Ambassador Aiken has visited and the people he has met through UNICEF in his own words. Ambassador Aiken, I really like callin' him that...has a lovely ring to it. Who would have predicted a few years ago, when we had a tour around every bend, that the words "potential tour," carrying just a hint of promise, would become such sweet, sweet music to our ears? Last month, I, who have never won anything except a concert DVD that didn't work, actually won an American Airlines gift card in an online sweepstakes. And that little piece of plastic is now earmarked for opening night of the next tour. So...come on and bring it Clay!
  6. Pssst...there is an extra Gala ticket, and if I'm not mistaken, it's a seat at our table. Spur of the moment trips can be fabulous...just sayin.' BTW I want in the "I love Annabear's momma" line too. She's something, and just as kind as she is frank. That OFC "support" thread has turned into a farce. Unfortunately, I know one of the players...and at this point, I just want to slap her upside the head. Some of those "Christians" are making this Christian have very unChristian thoughts and feelings. As Clay would say "Oh crap." What. {{{Muskifest}}} I'm so sorry about Shadow-loved the photos.
  7. He certainly is. As is his new brother Jamie. From Claygary and Fear, thanks so much. We'll work out details, k? Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.
  8. I was awake last night when he blogged, so I left a text message for a friend thinking she would receive it first thing this morning. But no, I woke her at 2AM. Don't you think everyone should have a friend like me? Ooops... sorry Cheri. I *think* that she still loves me. Well, maybe. :F_05BL17blowkiss: As for Clay's blog itself, I thought it was honest and heartfelt, and beautifully crafted. And I admire that amazing man more today than I did yesterday or yesteryear. ROFL!! Literally. Ummmm... Fear...I had arranged a ride back to Greensboro after the Gala, but the person is leaving very early Sunday morning. If you stay for the brunch, could I bum a ride back with you? I would love to get together with everyone.
  9. Flyby post as I have a doctor appointment in just a few minutes. Just wanted to say thank you so much for welcoming me so warmly. :F_05BL17blowkiss: On to one of the important subjects du jour: the violet flowered shirt. I giggle every time I see a photo. Folks, I have a pair of pajamas with exactly the same print, down to the colors. No lie. So all I can think when I see it is "Clay, why are you wearing my pajamas?" And that is just disturbing on all kinds of levels. :lmaosmiley-1: Catch y'all later! Thanks again for all of the welcomes.
  10. :F_05BL17blowkiss: Right back at you Annabear. I was thinking I'd lurk for a few days, but since I've been caught, I'm one of the new members, although I *think* I registered after that 5AM influx. Can't speak for anyone else, but in my case Fear and From Claygary had both mentioned that they thought I might be happy here at FCA. It's been a long time since I really felt comfortable at any board. I'd been meaning to visit FCA for some time, but RL got in the way. And then last week happened and though I have tried to be supportive at the OFC, I really just find myself banging my head on my keyboard in frustration. Last night I found myself wishing I could post a huge flashing neon sign with the message "PEOPLE, Where Is the Freakin' Love?" Anyway, for the past few days, I have been reading here quite a bit, and it didn't take me long to realize that I like it here and think I'll fit just fine. You guys rock! I guess the important thing for me is to affirm that I love the good caring man in that banner up there, and for many reasons. Not the least of which is that he has a voice like no other. And now that we've established my affection for him- what in the heck was he wearing last night? The scariest thing about that outfit, for me, was that his sneakers actually matched so I'm thinking maybe he was really trying. BWAH In the past I've been more of a reader/lurker than a poster, but look forward to getting to know all of you. *Waves to Annabear, Fear, Claygary...and any other friends I may be missing*
