When an entertainer has a life-long career, there will be times when it's hot, and times when it's not. What he/she will never have is non-stop success and non-stop visibility, I don't care who he/she is. I wish folks would learn to be more confident and more able to take the times when nothing is going on, and not get all in a panic or all glum about it. A fandom shouldn't be something to torture yourself with and live in misery over--it should be fun!! I think our expectations can be unreasonable at times. As for the lack of appearances, this is exactly how he told us it would be--some promo, then a vacation, and a UNICEF trip. Hopefully there will be another round of promo down the road a bit. A tour is a good possibility. And there may be news of another sort--TV, a movie, whatever. Clay isn't a quitter or a whiner. He's a strong, vibrant, talented man. He's going to be around a long time.

*sniffle* I know I know CinPA, we met at ebird's before the Raleigh NAT. *shades eyes* Yoo-hoo! Starts scanning the list of FCA'ers for entries that don't exist on other boards and are sensible (tho' there are sooooo many of the latter around here)

So much for Anarctica! heee. One of these days!! (Oh KAndre..are you interested in that one :cryingwlaughter: ) But you know..I've loved every single travel adventure. IT's been quite the ride.
Sssssssh! Don't say anything but somehow KAndre managed to pick the only Houston-Hongkong route that passes through the Arctic Circle for us. I've never used that flight, since I usually try to swing through Japan, but I was delighted when she suggested it!

ETA: I realize it's probably not kosher to post at random and then whine, but dayum. Sometimes this fandom reminds me of Audrey. Feeeeeeeeeeeeeeed meeeeee!

bwah..ok this is one movie -- little shop of horros right? - that I can't watch for 15 minutes before falling asleep. I swear I tried 10 times. I heard it's good though hee.

Awww, couchie. Did you stay long enough to hear "Skid Row"? And right after AI2, I always thought of some guy during The Meek Shall Inherit and Ya Never Know.

annabear, I haven't set you up at StripedSockSirens yet but will get to it asap! *pls don't let my laziness reflect on the group (SSS not eHP; eHP is proud of being lazy)*

  2. Just got home because my friend who got me into knitting (our admin in the dba department that I used to work in), dragged me off to her new quilting guild. *waves at Kareneh -- can you teach me via long distance / net meeting? * I'm not yet caught up but I see that you're talking about Little Shop of Horrors and Dallas, wheee! Can't wait to join in -- I already missed out on so many songs, seeing that you're already on GOG.... not that I'm particularly known for following rules... Hee!

    What, no drinks tonight? :cocktail:

    ETA: 'nite ldj! Hope you find relief for your knee and soon! {{{ldj}}}

  3. I was surfing around and found this montage of Clay spouting raspberries at the choir teacher who cut him from the high school musical...... I never saw this one!!

Does anyone know what musical they put on that year? :F_05BL17blowkiss:

I think it was "Guys and Dolls" -- too bad for them. Imagine hearing this with everything Gibby wrote about Clay's voice and you'll have an idea of what they missed out on!

:F_05BL17blowkiss: R.I.P Cyd Charisse. *and thanks to claytonic and jazzgirl for the alert*

So sad to hear this right after remembering how my DD is named after her.

(Wanted to play the first part of this for her but I can't cut up mp3's here at the office so I'll post the entire song.)

Actually, I like the FM transmitters that PerusingOne and I use -- which kinds aren't goo so we can avoid them? Maybe it's the frequency in diff cities? We have lots of blank space here.

  4. I'm home 3, just beating a rainstorm!

{{{{merrieeee}}}} I'm going to miss your kitchen! Was it just me who thought, "Boy, those termites have been privy to a lot of things!"

So many nice things to read!!! I'm so glad I know you all, especially Gibby, KAndre, KeepingFaith and Perma. I was going to say something about Falling lyrics but I forgot while reading all your stuff -- Cotton, wanted to let you know that your post called to me and even helped me at work today. I wanna hear Clay and Barbra too! "People" was also the first song I remember from her, mainly because my cousins took me to see the movie after assuring my folks that we were watching a Disney one.

And I'd like to go to KAndre's too even though my kitchen is fine. We don't need to cook, I just want to know how my Sim is doing.

  5. I know it's late but I just wanted to say hi and belated Happy Father's Day to everyone!

I had a truly fine day today with my father and family -- there were nine of us out for crabcakes, stuffed shrimp and zydeco at Pappadeaux's in Seabrook. Wish ya'll could have been there!
So glad you had fun, kf -- how about dragging the ehP to Seabrook sometime?!!

I was out for the weekend and so missed out on all your interesting discussions; not caught up, but I'd like to share my father's day story / opinion too.

But first, :elephanthugs: to Iseeme. Columbus was also without electricity intermittently on Thursday and Friday.

laughn, thanks for noticing my posts and I'm sorry to have missed you on this Ohio trip. I *will* stay home one weekend v. soon (and I mean home-home, not KAndre's or merrieeee's), and will render your Cleveland Christmas story.

Back to my father's day story...

My Dad worked for the Foreign Service and was abroad from when I was 3 years old until I was 10. He and my mom decided that it would be better for me to grow up and attend school back home instead of at various posts around the world, so I didn't see him very much during the school year. My mom and I stayed home and visited him in the summer (or vice-versa) -- and boy what summers he planned for us. I think he spent the entire year mapping out what we would do for a couple of months. He also wrote us individual notes v. often and years later, it was fun for me to "discover" the bundles of letters he had written my mom; I also kept all my letters from him and learned to read early so that I didn't have to get others to read them to me. It ended up that I was closer to my dad than to my mom, but maybe it was a "daddy's girl" kinda thing. Nowadays, this situation is common for people back home because a large part of our income is from overseas contract workers -- construction workers, "enteratiners", household helpers, pilots, merchant marine, you name it -- and many homes consist of 1 parent working abroad and another staying home to take care of the family. There are many challenges, especially since the parent living abroad is transported to a whole new world where he/she is probably better appreciated, feels empowered and has more freedom than any job back home. Long-distance relationships are always difficult. I'm not saying that this is the ideal situation -- it would be great if the world economy were such that people didn't have to work so far away from home. What I'm saying is that people cope in many ways and unless we know of other people's situations, it isn't easy to view our own v. clearly.

    *yawn* Goodnight, everyone!!!

  6. This one's for Scarlett. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

Thanks, Muski!!! Can I have the the 2 Miami pics too? *bats eyelashes*

    We had snow yesterday...

    snow

Yes, snow. We had a blizzard day before yesterday. It's been around 30 degrees below normal temps for the past few weeks. It really feels more like fall.

Scarlett, I would gladly take some of that heat. It's getting ridiculous...I guess I'm in no rush to put away my winter sweaters!

Tijala, someday I'll figure out a way to Fedex some to you. *dreams on*

Yes - I think that was chocolate on the spoon. But didn't he say somewhere that he was a teenager or older before they realized the chocolate was giving him really bad chest pains or something. Or did I just make that up.
Well I know that the opposite can happen -- someone consistently had asthma attacks after eating chocolate... and then something happened and within 3 years was tucking away 1/2 pound bags of M&Ms with no visible effects.

    Awww, couchie. Next time!!! :thbighug-1:

    ETA: Eeeeeee, Gibby!

  7. HBD, justclay12!!! I see you've been having a lovely day!

Wow, Gibby! Congratulations! Shouldn't we all toast Gibby and her DH?!! And double-wow on fitting into the wedding dress!

Play, I'm glad to hear that it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Muski & ldy, aww, my favorite shirt. Wonder what happened to it?

Tijala, it was in the 90's here today. A bit of snow would have been nice.

    Late to the party, but...

I just read this over at CH.

Jamie left a message on Jesse's MySpace saying she might be in NY on Sunday evening and might see him. Sunday evening - Tonys???

A comment on Jesse's MySpace? Didn't call, didn't text, and MySpace has private messages, doesn't it?

Hmmmm..... sits and crosses one leg over the other, putting elbow on knee & chin in hand..... Hmmmmmm...... crosses the other leg over the first and puts the opposite elbow on knee..... Hmmmmm..... could it possibly be?..... a clue..... should there have been blinkies or arrows on it?...... or this smiley? :hubbahubba:

As often as people say they don't like rollercoasters, many are here for the ride. I'm hopeful that we're going to get turned around again and happy times will be back. A Clay sighting is always good. *keeps fingers crossed*

  8. According to the Jason Flom's article "The Money Note" in The New Yorker (July 7, 2003), Cherie is from France. However, it is possible that she got a temporary place in the US for promotions. It is/was and interesting article. I quoted it at the CH back in October 2003. Hee! It was the first time I'd read the term A&R and I also mentioned this about the article, "It was also noted that the elite group that Jason and Clive belong to consists entirely of men." Hee! I guess that's changed now.

I can't stay on too long but can anyone find the article online, pretty please?

Got it. Thank you Scarlett for the bread crumbs. The Money Note

I don't see any mention of Clay specifically, just AI, so either I'm remembering that wrong or it was a different article about her that compared them. Probably I'm remembering wrong.

:F_05BL17blowkiss: Thanks a bunch for finding it, jmh!!! If you recall Clay being mentioned specifically then it is a different article. I read this in print 2 months after AI2 so I'm assuming the article was written in April 2003, too early to focus on Clay.

FCA CiSNO who tulibu dibu douchou thinking WTF re. a-IVF by JFnoL & CA...

:cryingwlaughter: Thanks for the laugh, annabear!

At any age, having babies close together NATURALLY is an enormous strain--physically, emotionally, psychologically, any --ly!

Actually, it's not that tough. DS & DD are 14 months apart. They tussled a lot until they were of kindergarten age, argued over everything but they've been best buddies ever since. And there's a side benefit too: *looks around and checks for the kids' whereabouts*

  9. Tasapio really did take wonderful pictures. Whatever happened to her? Is she still around?

I love all the pretties being posted...makes me all schmoopie for our bf.

She is still around but RL has taken over. She saw one of the DCAT shows, the one in her hometown. I miss her so! *sighs*

We spent most of the summer of '05 together -- Darien Lake to Borgatta.

Thanks Scarlett...I hadn't seen her name around for awhile. I loved browsing her blog at the OFC and drooling over her pictures. That song made me a bit teary-eyed. I've had some very memorable summers too.

If you haven't seen the show, the guy really ends up as "Harry the Banker" though I'm not quite so sure about the "football fan" part. I know that some folks didn't like Mama Mia when they saw it this year, but I thought it was fun. Saw it in Toronto in a gorgeous theater, front row center here in Houston at the then new Hobby Center, and in NYC with the eHP during the JNT06 3-fer weekend.

I thought she was from Connecticut or her family was at that concert or something like that. I'm an old person - can't be relied on for perfect memory! :cryingwlaughter:

I could have made it up too! Hee!

In any case - I loved the duet and they kicked proverbial ass on it!!! I have it somewhere on one of my "mix" CDs and have nearly worn a groove in that particular cut.

Okayyyyyyyyyyy - off to chase that little white ball again.

I'm not picky! Yes, I loved that duet too -- wish I had been there. Good luck on your tournament!

And ITA completely about the Ave Maria! Hope to hear that someday!!!

I was always under the impression that Clay sang the duet with Cherie because it was the release day for her CD and that she was actually from France.

Did I just make that up?

She was from France. I thought the duet was because there were some big-wigs in the audience. Dunno.

I do remember a long ago article about how many millions they spent building her career in the US, what a megastar she would be compared to Clay Aiken, that reality show guy who would be just a flash in the pan.

According to the Jason Flom's article "The Money Note" in The New Yorker (July 7, 2003), Cherie is from France. However, it is possible that she got a temporary place in the US for promotions. Don't know if there is a "kind" for our commune, but hey, in my mind, we're...

    :F_05BL17blowkiss: to annabear, just cuz.

Yep! CiSNOs. Cuz, ya know we need more acronyms in this fandom! :lol:CiSNOs from FCA who tulibu dibu douchou Clay!

    :F_05BL17blowkiss: back at ya, ldyj.

ldyjocelyn, awww, I love it when you talk dirty. But really, that's a neat name!

    annabear, next thread title?

Oh! I'm very sorry, Isem dear! :giveflowers:

I promise to remember next time. *have I earned a spanking yet? anything but the lines, please!!!*

    I completely ::heart:: your pictures!

ETA: I'm still here, Gibby! Thanks for the drinks!!!

  11. All this talk of libations here, reminds me of Elaine Stritch's "The Ladies Who Lunch" in Company. I keep hearing "I'll drink to that". If anyone wants a good drinking song, here it is:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fwfimjV4dQ

Thanks! The entire show's also available on a Blu-ray disc... why couldn't they do that for all shows?!! (Nice to see you, jazzgirl!)

Cheez doodles?!! oooooh, my favorite! Thanks annabear! :squeeze:

    Is it page 80 yet???

    Iseemee, :perfect10:
