  1. Welcome lajeterfan! Is the "jeter" as in Derek? Or am I confuzzled? If it is, you might want to check out our sports thread here.

wandacleo, there are many on this board who are having concerns with parents or children, and consider Clay and the fandom "their escape." You may want to check out the Family Matters thread here; people in the thread are always giving support, advice, and hugs.

  2. ETA2: Banter - I'm on the fence about it. I like it when it's natural, but sometimes it seems forced. I loved the spontaneous 'Puberty' banter ' and Bug Banter, stuff like that. But some of the dramatic 'set ups' before some songs were OTT. I just wanted him to hurry up and sing. I'm probbly the only one that didn't care for the 'Weezie' schtick becoss it felt overdone to me.

yeah...I do think there are times that Clay seem to work hard to make a schtick work...at times it just flows and I figured that is just the way things work at times. What I find amazing about Clay is how great he is at going with the flow. I think once something starts to feel too forced for him...he ends up changing t in the next show. I say he has great instincts. I think Clay has a situation that is a bit unique. He knows he has a fandom that follows every concerts because of the clack and he always has multiple concert goers in the audience...I think he eds up having the extra challenge of trying to keep his shows fresh for his audience.

Banter lover who agrees here. Someone upthread mentioned the "Weezie" banter and how it got kinda old. My favorite of that is that San Diego show....where it just kinda happened. The next night, where he got his shows mixed up (started channeling Fred Sanford, "I'm comin' to join ya!"), was another favorite. But then....I noticed he started changing it, and by the end of the tour, it was pretty toned down (by Clay standards....I think he likes "primary colors" with his banter schtick too). And I'm sure that he probably does think about the die-hard fans who come to every show with what he does....while also trying to not alienate the not.just.us fans. That reviewer for the Orlando show got it right, IMO, when he talked about it being a big-ole slumber party.

The admins were thinking that it would be good to have another round of get to know you posts...people can give a history of their names and when they discovered Clay and how they found out about FCA. I am really surprised that not many people knew we existed even if they visit FCA website regularly...I guess we didn't do a good job at promo...hee

    So.....why didn't you tell us?!?!!?

Name is ldyjocelyn. It's a short version of "Lady Jocelyn." I was a member a long time ago of a group called the Society for Creative Anachronism, which studied the middle ages by recreating it. When I tried to sign up for a yahoo mail account many years ago, "ladyjocelyn" was taken, so I took the first "a" out. Didn't realize, years later, that people would mistake that first "l" for an "I". Hee.

I was one of those silly people who thought Clay would "leave" us after the anomaly. Somehow, I ended up at TWoP. Funny story: I had read TV show recaps at TWoP for about a year or so....and never knew about the message boards there! (Sound vaguely familiar?) Anyway, finally ended up going with the migration from TWoP to the CH where I was for many years. I got to be good friends with couchie -- even saw her put shampoo on her face in New Hampshire one morning. *g* When she formed the board, I moved over here. In the past year or so, I've been WAY more active, due to circumstances similar to many of those from other boards. I'm happy here....

I've seen Clay 18 times....which either frightens people (atinal, do you think those ladies you met in Tulsa were freaked?), or makes people say "Psahw, that's nothing." I really can't pick a favorite performance or tour from Clay, because he just simply puts a smile on my face every damn time I see him.

I would have cut both medleys for BW and IFDKMBY and Lonely No more

If I had my way, and I would if my hubby was running the show but I digress, I would have had 3 or 4 encore songs! Why doesn't he do encores, eh?

As much as I would have loved for him to have added a few more songs to the set (IYDKMBN...heh), I think BYLM was the perfect closer. *sob*

I've been here for a couple of months. I just haven't posted. I wasn't sure I had the energy for the message board thing anymore, but I like the tenor here, so the energy is creeping back. Thanks for that, FCA crew. If I jump in, though, I'm gonna want to freshen up. That means a new board name. How do you do that? Hey, maybe I'll even get a Clay avi for the first time ever. That would be a real change!

PM one of the admins and we can set you up with that...

I loved the later part of the 60's best - the part with the skinny black suit.

Hat and skinny black suite, or no hat with skinny black suit? If your answer is "hat," then you really DID like the Motown stuff. *g*

And I am addictied to Everything I Have, which totally baffles me because it's so out of step with my usual choices.

You'll have to fight KAndre and I for that one. And KAndre has the stilettos.

Hey, what's the story with the editor? I hope there is no counter, or I'm gonna have to learn to proofread.

No counter, but if you go back in and change something it will show that you made an edit. I think the only people who don't have the editor to show up in their posts are the admins and mods. We're speshul. Not any better than any body, but speshul nonetheless.

Couldn't resist putting these here so I can look at them some more ....

    Pic049fsn.jpg

I LOVE this one. What a star.

Yay for Ansa for starting the name thing/board history.

  3. merrieee -- you just added one more reason why I love you so very much, and ITA on seeing Clay more than once entirely because he changes the show/banter every darn night. But have you tried to explain that to a not.just.us person? They look at your REAL funny....until they get to a show. THEN I think they get it....

I enjoy some banter, and I wouldn't want Clay to give it up entirely. I think he is funny and quick witted. I love when he makes fun of his fans, or dresses them down. :eusa_whistle: I had a good time at my concert. But for me, as I've said, I go to his concerts to hear him sing songs from his cds. The same as I would do for any artist. I really do think that is what most non existing fans would also expect at a concert. I would prefer 2/3rds of the concert was singing. I think it is great that some of Clay's fans enjoy his banter and his silly goofy self. I like some of that too. I hope he gets a TV show someday where he can spend 2 hours showing the world all his many talents. He has great comedic timing and I see great acting potential in him as well. Always have. {{{hugs}}} Clay will do what he wants to do and he seems to like to banter at concerts. I wasn't putting him down, just expressing a preference, but then he doesn't ask me what I want, and rightfully so. :cryingwlaughter: Cause I'd hate to tell him that what I really want to do is to nail him. :eusa_whistle:

Clayzor, you know I love you very much. It just seems that this is one area where I know we disagree, and I think we respect each other for that. If he gets that TV show though -- maybe we'll have the best of both worlds -- goofy Clay on TV, serious Clay in concert, or on a record.

The only other artist I've seen more than once in the same tour was Huey Lewis and the News, way back in the 80's. Thinking back on that....they didn't change the show all that much. With Clay, though -- you never know what you're going to get!

jamar, loved hearing about all your variety in musical tastes. I'm not much into current country, except for two artists -- Alison Krause (whom I saw a few weeks ago in concert) and Brad Paisley (fantastic guitar player, funny song writer, and fills out a pair of blue jeans quite well). My husband would appreciate the fact that you like George Jones too! But I like to think that I have eclectic music taste too. Someday when I get that iPod (hopefully for my birthday) I'm sure I'll find out!

I remember a few years ago on the CH when KAndre posted that she LOVED "The Night Chicago Died." Right then, I became a minion. Two of my most cherished "albums" are box sets of 70's radio classics and 80's radio classics. (Someday, I'm going to get the one from the 90's). I tend to go from cheesy to rap in a heartbeat. *g*

BTW, for those interested in statistics -- we registered 7 new members between August 1 and August 18. From August 19 to today -- 58 new members. Bookwhore, you think you're getting used to it being a "smaller" board? Try being an admin! :lilredani:

    Welcome all!

If anyone needs a tutorial on how to do the "quotes" thing or how to cut down a post to quoting only a section of it, PM me. I'll talk you through it!

  4. I wish he would do this more in concert and less banter. JMHO

Hee, clayzor. I understand that, and agree with it to a point. But you know me....I love me my goofy Clay. I love it when he goes totally "off script," because then I think we get some classic comedy. I can see where it would be frustrating (for example, I don't envy YSRN in rating TWYMMF....), but I'm one that thinks entertainer Clay is "off the hook" and sells just as many records via comedy.

And to prove MY personal point -- I think I've maybe downloaded 5 MOAMs from this tour. But I've downloaded anything with the words "Banter" in it, and every single TV medley and classics medley. I agree that he sings the shiznit out of MOAM -- but I love to laugh, and those medleys did it for me every.single.time.

    Yes, I'm weird.

I'm totally with CG on the "green eyed soul" thing. IYDKMBN is fantastic to me, and the Motown medley was my favorite section of the JBT as well (*waves at keepingfaith, MY twin, almost*). He knows how to wail with that stuff, and I WANT MORE!

    Sorry for the yelling. :lilredani:

  5. I think Clay likes to do uptempo, too. I imagine he has figured out from the audience reaction that we like uptempo, along with the glory note-type songs he so excels at.

Bolding mine. See that's the thing -- I think the man has many different types of music in him. Upbeat. Uptempo. Sad. Soulful. I think he can do those, and more. But I do think they need to fit into what HE sees for himself.

And I also totally agree with jamar here:

You know...I hope there is always a happy mix of the two. Cuz I'd hate to lose those bombasitc glory notes ... I really would. I love the fun uptempo stuff but I want Clay to do his voice justice. I want to hear him sing songs that other people ... just can't.

    Is that so wrong? :RedGuy:

Not at all. His voice is the reason many of us are here in the first place, and I think it would be a shame for him to sing something like SexyBack just to get him on the radio, or make his fans dance in the aisles all the time, or make his fans say "he's cool now." IMO it would be a waste of the vox. And yet, I want some songs that I can dance to as well. He'll find that mix, somehow, someway. And, I hate to break it to y'all, but it might take a few albums before he finds that mix. These things take time, honey [tm Clay].

I REALLY want more opportunities to see him move that scrumptious bod of his and maybe move that zipper down a notch or two... accidentally, of course! :whistling-1:
Well, now THAT I agree with!

I am kind of conflicted on the whole "glory note" thing; If he does them, I want him to do them because he wants to and not because he thinks it is what the fans want...I worry about him straining his voice especially when he is doing 4 or 5 concerts in a row.

    Kim

I used to worry about his voice, but I think this tour showed me that it got stronger and stronger as it went along. I was at Tulsa, and I thought he sounded strained by the end of the night. And yet, I think his vocals in Orlando, the last stop of the tour, were fantastic. Also -- I simply don't worry about his glory-noting after seeing the last Christmas tour. AIW, anyone? Glory note heaven...and he did it strongly almost every night.

And I see I disagree with Ansa over this. *sigh* I do agree that he tends to use them to showboat from time to time, but for the most part, I think he knows when and how to do them. And I LIKED the RHW note. Good God.

Oh EEEEEE! I loved the way he looked that night. I mean, I almost always do, but really....yum.

The 2006 AMA awards look is one of my most favorite EVAH!! I know people swooned over the UNICEF lighting hair. Me? I'll take that AMA look anyday. And when he took off the jacket....yum-mo.

The answer to filming and glowing at the same time and succeeding at both.

    That's just wrong.

Thank you all for a fantastic day of reading, learning, and growing. And drooling over Clay.

rcknrllmom, I loved your montage. And YSRN, thanks for that Angela clip. I'll have to find that clack soon. spot's TWYMMF, right?

  6. liney, DCAT stands for "Doing Clay Aiken Tour." This was the name of the tour created by FCA after Clay made a comment on Quiana's MySpace page. She had on her calendar listing there simply his name on certain days for the tour, and he made the comment "geez, sounds like you're doing me." Hence, we decided to Do Clay Aiken.

    We even created T-shirts!

We had pins too, but I think they are sold out.

understand the viewpoint of those who were

And I think that's why I like the discussions around here -- I get the feeling that at least most here try to put themselves in someone else's shoes on almost every issue. Or, if we can't understand it, we at least say "agree to disagree" and move on.

clayglo, I hope that you at some time feel comfortable enough to give your viewpoints here. Just remember that we might agree with you wholeheartedly...or only agree with you partially....or may not agree with you at all. And I try to NOT take any disagreements personally around here. That's another key, IMO.

  7. Welcome ialreadyam! Yes, marathon reading sessions are a bear, especially when you're new or have been away for a few days (or in the case of this past week, even a few hours). But I'm glad you made it through. Hope you enjoy yourself.

Ansa, that's Clay's backup singer from the early MOAM TV promotion. Wasn't her name Sholanda? The clip is from the VH1 TV special that went behind the scenes with Clay.

And now I've just taken the words out of a different post for ialreadyam. Sorry, I get chatty sometimes.

  8. And what's wrong with the one rcknrllmom found?

    AngelaandClay.jpg

I gotta admit, it made my innards tingle!

It makes more than my innards tingle....heh.

couchie, you do know how to make that picture into an avatar size on Photobucket, right? Look for the place where you upload your pictures to an album -- but before loading the picture, click on "options" next to "max picture size." Select avatar size and then save your selection. THEN upload your picture. (Remember to change your setting back to a more normal size after saving as an avatar size though....)

As for the topic at hand....lots of good responses, and I think I have been nodding in agreement to almost everyone here. If I'm being truly honest, I find this kind of conversation a bit discomforting....and I think it's because if I apply things to my own life, I sometimes can see myself as well. This is a conversation that to me causes a bunch of "inward looking," and that can be very uncomfortable sometimes. I guess I feel that while I don't like the way it happened (booing is simply rude in this instance), Ethel did look inward. I'm not sure if others will.

As far as Clay's role in all this -- I remember KAndre saying that this was a pointed comment. I agree -- and also realize that sometimes a pointed comment needs to be made in order to highlight behaviors. I agree with whomever said that they thought Clay was trying to make light of the situation, but it may have gotten lost because of the pointedness of the comment. But you know what? The comment has also made me THINK. A lot. It seems like it has for others too. So, in a round about way, IMO.... :allgood:

    ETA: this is for bottlecap:

    YeeHaw!

  9. Forget the lurking, I have a question. Why is my home board and screen name there listed in my profile info, but I don't see that in anyone else's? It doesn't matter, just curious.

With early registrants (2005 and 2006), we didn't require those fields being filled, so there are quite a few that don't have that filled in. Please note, however, that I do have mine filled in. FCA is my home board! And there are others too that do have that information there.

One more: do I need to upload my avatar through Photobucket?

    Pardon the interruption.

Don't worry about it. If I remember correctly, you can upload your avatar directly from your computer, although I tend to use Photobucket myself, esepcially since Photobucket will shrink a picture to avatar size if you ask it to real nicely.

Don't worry about asking questions! That's what us librarians are for! Hee!

Topic: would Clay make a good librarian? Discuss.

  10. Just to let you know....I've updated the gifs... Goodbye :TourExcite: and :Tour3: in the list of clickables next to the posting area....

    ...but hello to :xmas07a: !!!

    :F_05BL17blowkiss: cindilu2?

So, what time is the wake? Is there a dress code? Should I be in all black? Or how about my Clay Aiken "Invisible" t-shirt -- would that be suitable?

And most importantly -- will Clay be making an appearance?

I think Clay is a little upset about all this....

    185457919-L.jpg

    ...and maybe sad too....

    IMG_0180CrpWPB2.jpg

muski, how DARE you blame us!!! We've studied from you -- you are Obi-Wan, I am Luke. You are the master of smut.

And I like your line of questioning. Must study further.

    186441439_5527.jpg

  11. Woohoo!!!! I was right -- another librarian!!!! YAY!!!!!

You'll appreciate this, created for me by another librarian friend, Betty897X. I've been thinking that if I ever get a M&G with Clay, I'd print this out on good paper and have him sign it.

    read2.jpg

  12. Was today the taping of AYSTAFG? Was anyone here there? At the taping, I mean? Does anyone know how it went? Is there a limit to the number of questions we can ask in one post? Did Clay win a buttload of money?

The taping is next Tuesday -- and our own couchie is going!!!! EEEEEEE!

I wonder if they'll let her tell us how much money he won. Will the BAF want those of us who pledged to send our money after next week, or will we have to wait until the show airs (which I'm guessing will be in November)?

Either way, I can't wait for the full report! YAY!

Talk about a trip down memory lane with all those quotes. V.V. cool.

  13. I have things to do today, but they'll have to wait...have lots of reading to do!

Is there a road map? Where are pictures supposed to be posted?

Welcome clayglo! As for a road map -- well, you've basically arrived at the place for all the main Clay action. Pictures can be posted her, and are in fact encouraged! Hint hint.... You can also post pictures for a particular show in the tour thread for the DCAT (that's what we call it around here anyway -- "Doing Clay Aiken Tour.") There is also a thread created for the 2007 holiday tour as well (located here). If you don't see a thread for a particular concert, feel free to start one. (But makes sure there isn't one already first, hee!)

Most, if not all, of our ramblings around here tend to be in this thread. But there are lots of other good places -- the Harry Potter thread in "Books and Magazines" was popular for a while, as an example. If you're not sure where you're going, just PM one of the admins here and we'll be happy to help.

And don't forget about the "View New Posts" link! (couchie made me say that!)

    EEEEEEEE! New pretty pictures !

And this one is for muski -- "Every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you...."

    :cryingwlaughter:

  14. Or 'We were all up on him screaming "Yeah! Yeah!"' - in the spirit of sharing and inclusion and all. :me0:

Yeah, yeah -- that works for me!

dropping in quick for a banner switcherooo...

thanks to rcknrllmom for our new sexy banner...

You know Ansa, you could warn one of your own ADMINS when you're going to change a banner. I almost choked on my water bottle when I saw that beauty appear. Good God almighty! Thank you rcknrllmom!

That post from Edith irks me, not the post itself, but that she felt she needed to make it... I wish she wouldn't let fan bullying break her spirit. She's an individual and shouldn't have to change herself to fit some people's vision of "acceptable" behavior. I want real-life characters in my story, not a bunch of clones. Meh. I hate when that happens. *grumble, grumble*

I think what she did was classy, but I pretty much agree with you. It does feel like bullying, and that makes me sad.

    BitchPlease.jpg

I might have to hold on to this for use as an avatar someday!

Did I welcome Pushin and Bookwhore? If not -- consider it done. And does this mean we have another librarian on board? *Snoopy happy dance of joy*

When a CV'er asked "What is FCA?" Brightstar provided these possible definitions ... at 11:28 p.m. on her birthday, no less! :nanadance:

    Frisky Clay Aiken?

    Focusing on Clay Aiken

    Finding Clay's aperture

    Fabulous cannon accessory

    Faulty closing action

    Finding cause to admire

    Focus, celebrate, appreciate

    Forcing Clay to adjust

    Frontal crotch art

    :cryingwlaughter:

*hmmmm....I might have to make one of these my signature around here....*

  15. Sorry, I was too late to sign up for FCA's Rate The Music for the SRHPT or DCAT as it's known around here, I enjoyed doing that for JNT06. I'm willing to help. If someone wants second opinions on some of the songs, I could act as an optomotrist & patient of sorts. "Which one's better A or B?" " B, No, I think A is better, let me go listen again"

Folks would possibly be willing to share, if you have a favorite that you would've picked if you could. There's a loooooooot of clack out there, and more to come, no doubt.

Maybe we could "buddy system" this whole thing. For example -- I'm willing to whittle down BYLM to the final 8 choices or so, and then someone else could come along and pick the final two out of those choices. And I could do the same for laughn, for example -- she could pick her top 8 of HYCA and then I go in and select the final two. (BTW, that was my second choice for a song.)

Or am I making this just all that much more difficult?

You know, it's really kind of embarrassing when you're sitting at your desk, mumbling something about Clay's crotch, when someone walks into your office....
