  1. I agree that Clay's voice is sublime. Such beauty to hear. I am making a cd of clay songs from across albums for my mother and this one will be on it. Somewhere, someone posted a post showing the album it was supposed to be on. I just don't know if it was released. I'm glad we have it.
  2. I actually think it fits very well. It speaks to learning one HUGE lesson - that we can either sleepwalk through life or open our eyes and realize that each of us can make a difference. in the world or in the lives of others. Its sort of the ultimate lesson in life. Good points, CG. When I said that, I meant musically. I really don't listen to lyrics.
  3. I think that his voice is wonderful on this song. Doesn't fit the album, I don't think but I like listening to his view. And its goooood. this song has that Clay flourish on "wise." the flourish is missing on all the other songs and I think this is a good thing. I read that this song was supposed to be a a gospel album. I meant "voice" not "view."
  4. I remember an article in a teen mag way in the beginning where he said he asked his cousin what does if feel like to be in love. I got the feeling he hadn't expereinced what he thought love was at that time. Well five years later, has he yet? "picking up the pieces makes me wonder if just build it up to watch it fall." He sings with just a bit of sing-song, very effective. I think the cello love, at least for me, comes from the way his voice and the sound of the cello seem almost one. I agree a beautiful melody. As hard as love can be its harder still it seems to be a lover all alone without love. A lover all alone without love. Maybe I've convinced myself but I've been wrong all along. Using "but" at the end instead of "and" seems like he has come to conclusion that he has been wrong. He has not experienced love.
  5. When I heard this song would be the album I wondered how it would fit. I think it feels beautifully. It is just a gorgeous song. couch tomato, I do agree. In what universe is this a bombasic ballad. And I think the lyrics are simple yet elegant, sophisticated. He ended with this song. Any thoughts?
  6. it does it again on "close our eyes." I also love how it builds to "I know, I know." Some cry in some of his phrasing. I love that sound in his voice.
  7. listen to how he sings "some" when he gets to the chorus. It has a delicious hiccup to it, that gives it a hint o'country. I don't see the music being too upbeat for the lyrics although I heard that criticism before. love, how he gets really soft at the end. yes "Nashville pop" I think Clay is a natural for this type of song.
  8. I could hear this song on country, it has a message and the beat in the chorus, but not quite the country instrumentation. Again, a very catchy chorus which I love. Love how he sings "some way that we could justify"
  9. also love "passing through" and "moving on." He sings those phrases so effortlessly. "I see you lying besides me, but i feel you moving on." Ok, how many ways can that be interpreted? Seems pretty direct. again, Clay says that not all of these have applied to him. but...
  10. In listening to the album as a whole, it is at this point that I find myself longing for an uptempo song. that being said, this was one of my favorite songs from the snippets. I almost like it better without "your perfect face" following "you find yourself" I loved how the latter phrase sounded on the snippets without something following it. He sounds absolutely gorgeous on the that last "sacrificial luuuuuve."
  11. I love how Clay pulls in a note that he holds, like on the word "all". he completes it.nothing left unfinished.
  12. As long as we're..As long as we're here, I'm goin' love you...he really wails here and I agree, quintisential clay ducky, I don't listen to the lyrics so I am not bothered by problems of cohesiveness.
  13. Towards the end, clay does something with his voice that reminds of the very end of Tears Run Dry and also how he sang "can" in the MOAM towards the end of the summer tour. His voice gets very muscular during the word "here." I like how this song builds.
  14. this was one of my least favorite songs initially but it is rising in the ranks. currently, it is six. I love how he goes to falsetto "understand why." And the chorus is catchy. He slips into the high notes so easily.
  15. yes, let the world go round, round, round.... I wonder sometimes what is must feel like to have so much on your shoulders, though. His mother, his fans, all the people whose livelihood (at least) depends on him. I am sure that many celebrities have this pressure. Other's people's lives depend on their success.
  16. listen to "when you're feeling cold, alone and desparate" clay just slides the words together in that phrase so deliciously. Excellent phrasing. I think this song could be on radio single on AC. It really has the catchiest chorus.
  17. Love the beginning guitar. Also love when he sings "unbreakable" with the background singers. I really like this song all the way through. How he sings "they're right" Lots of neat phrasing here.... This is currently my third favorite song
  18. bookwhore, you can stream for free from aol I think. hi everybody, i'm ready!
  19. FearofH2O. I very much agree. Even with the worst reviews this time around, no one has said that he is singing without emotions. All of the songs he sounds very connected to, very connected. Except for (in a small voice) ETIDN.
  20. This has been a blast. i love listening with all you guys. i have a different appreciation for the songs. i must go back and listen to the words. And read your posts.
  21. And how he builds on the words "be....leeee....eeeve" Love that... The shattered verse was changed for Clay. That is not in the Natialie Grant version.
  22. I do love the chorus of this song. I also love the wuuuuuuut. I like what Clay does with his vowels. Clay, I would like to buy a vowel. I really do like this song. ETA: I get a Proud of Your Vibe from the beginning of the song. I noticed it the snippets, the Slovenian had the stronger and fuller chorus and the Amazon has the earlier chorus. I do like how the song builds. Like how sings "self-inflicted" , "charade" not as much. But the transitions he makes, so smooth and easy. this can't be an easy song to sing. I wonder what Hannah thinks of this album.
  23. When I heard the Slovenian snippets, the Real Me was one of my favorites. It was the one I kept singing to myself again and again for literally the whole day. I am not wild by the beginning on the cd, i think it is a little theatrical. And that is one of the criticisms for the whole album which I think is unjustified. But when he sang it on QVC, that beginning was perfection. I think this is a wonderful showcase for his voice. And yes, I could see it on a broadway play. I dislike that flutey thing at the end that sounds like a horn in the sea, what is that called.
  24. He is going to kill me in concert with song. Really he will. "not one regret behind me" that "behind me" is great and "my last chance" love what he does with those phrases. This song has many "cries" in his voice. the ache really comes through. Either you're going to rescue me or you're going to be the death of me. I then he goes into the higher key....just so powerful. Right now, for me, this is the best song on the album. Love the instrumentation with Clay's being the most amazing.
  25. "Either you're going to rescue me. or you're going to be the death of me" Do you hear the driving guitar there? So powerful. I think this has the strongest potential to be a huge hit of any song in the album. So agree with your point, ldejoycelyn.
