  1. There was a young man named Clay

Oh so many women he did slay

I like this limerick idea. It's quite accurate, too. I wonder where the next line will go and it would be fun to keep adding to it.

ETA- Just to give an example (as I know some think the reunion info has not been substantiated), this is an idea of what could be added to the above with a new thread:

There was a young man named Clay

Oh so many women he did slay

    To a reunion he ventured

    And when alpha man entered

The crowd shouted hip, hip, hooray!

  2. <snip>

Really? I think Clay probably did attend his reunion. I was just agreeing that people should use salt shakers, and I'm surprised we don't have clack of it. Hee. The kid can't do anything, it seems, without fans knowing about it and sharing. LOL Clay does like to keep in touch with his teachers as keepingfaith mentioned. Of course I also think there is just a wee bit of a Diva Clay, wanting to attend just to have his "How Do You You Like Me Now!" moment. Even though they liked him in high school. I know I like him just fine............. :lipstick:

If Clay did attend his reunion, an additional reason could be that it was a life-affirming activity. I think after you suffer the death of someone close, you just may want to do something that proves you are alive and matter, and attending a reunion reminds you of your history and can be a useful distraction.

Question: Is the Houston posse "evil" because y'all are a bunch of characters? How did this moniker develop? I spent a few years in Houston and Houstonians are some of the nicest and friendliest people anyplace (outside of the freeways, anyway!). I miss the chicken fried steak and cream gravy.

  3. I'm glad to read that Clay went to his high school reunion. I think it would be good for him to connect with people who knew him when. I often wonder if he has a closed circle of friends just because he may not be able to trust someone new where their relationship doesn't have a history. With people he went to high school with at least he knows something of their character back then and he probably has better radar as to their current motives for being friends with him. And maybe he had some crushes back then that he would like to pursue now.

I do know of people who re-connected at a reunion (or connected for the first time). When I went to mine, I became very disillusioned at what happened to my crush. Sometimes it's good to go just to see what reality is versus your dreams of what happened to someone.

  4. Couch Tomato, yes, the site was down for a few minutes.

I've been a fan of Anne's for many years (well, fan is relative...I've seen her in concert 5 or 6 times in 30 years) but I found it very interesting.

I'm so glad I took the time!

Here's her website if anyone wants to refresh their memories:

Anne's official website with links to listen to her music

Claygary, my dad was a very big Anne Murray fan. He loved "Send a Little Love My Way". I have listened to that song so many times! She is an excellent singer.

Your great-grandson is a real cutie, too!

I was so disappointed because I was nabbed right after the Classics! Angela's parents were behind us and I was hoping to put together something nice for them -- *headbang*

I handed the camera to toofargone who sat near me just for that purpose but by the time we got it set up, it was already in the middle of Angela's song. *more headbangs*

Just curious, what happens when you get nabbed? BTW, gorgeous goods! You all are very talented.

  5. <snip>I love Q but I had never heard the words until Clay sang it on (I think) GMA! GAH!!! I was toast!<snip>

Cues "there were bells on the hills, but I never heard them ringing, no I never heard them at all, till there was you."

I think Clay rings canuck's bell. That is my profound statement for today.

Seriously, I never noticed the lyrics when Quiana sang them. Didn't hear any storytelling at all. I think Mr. "Bored So Easily I Couldn't Do a Broadway Show" would have to at least relate to the song for him to hear it every night. I do also agree that he is showcasing their voices.

So Clay gets to play A&R guy (to use record industry lingo) for Quiana and Angela. I would like to see the results when he plays A&R guy for himself. Maybe the AIW EP was the first example of that. I consider AIW Clay's masterpiece to date, a perfect melding of artist and song.

  6. jazzgirl, I also thought about that many times while listening - that Clay chose both these songs. Sure, they showcase the girls powerhouse voices wonderfully. But they are both lyrically poignant songs. Things that make you go, hmmmmm, for sure.

Reading the lyrics, Clay would have killed on that song. Just as he killed on Emmanuel and Listen. Does make one wonder that of all the gin joints in the world, he wandered into that one, as Bogie mused.

As for the rivet, I think it is a sooooper sekrit messaging device involved in a new branch of study called Claymate telegraphy. It emits messages that only Claymates can decipher. Perhaps the messages are quite similar to Morse code, that is, long blinks, short blinks, etc. I can just imagine the video study that could go into this project........

  7. My 'When the Lights Go Down' audio recommends are posted now, with mp3's for those who desire them.

I mentioned this in the post, but o.m.g. this is one depressing set of lyrics. (Right up my alley, of course ;-) :imgtongue: I've seen people say how sad they are that Clay was able to write the lyrics to LAA (feeling that he must have experienced them to write them). But man oh man, I'd rather see him write about losing love and wanting to feel it (again?) than the sentiments of this song. I need a drink now! :cryingwlaughter:

What is intriguing to me is that Clay picked Quiana's and Angela's songs for them to sing. What was there about this song that he wanted it in his show? This is the guy who frequently talks about strong melodies and lyrics and these are lyrics he likes. Maybe he just likes the lyrics or the melody or maybe it is just something he could identify with himself?

Thanks for posting that! I got so caught up in Quiana's performance that I didn't pay that much attention to the poetry of the lyrics.

  8. As for Clay evolving, I am continually amazed that the guy who did such an awkward hip shake on "Grease" has become the seemingly uninhibited and naturally fluid dancer during the "Classics" this summer.

I think his voice has the potential to become even better as he matures. I already hear a lot more I like than I did four years ago, and I didn't think that I could like his voice any more back then.

  9. If we ignore, the ratings and sales go down (hopefully), and this stuff might go away.

The problem is the tabloid celebrity-driven industry seems to be expanding, at least with television shows. I agree that Clay's basic tactic should be to ignore, but today's culture has an appetite for the salacious and he is a convenient target for a salacious story. I don't think he can do anything but live his life and ignore what he can.

  10. I would love a tutorial on photoshop!

    NEWS FLASH!

I was just reading an email from a business contact (yes, I'm at work and occasionally actually do work-related things). She works for the Denver Convention and Visitors Bureau but is in New York on business with another client and said she took the client to see Jersey Boys and that Clay was there!

Between this, the Fantasia report and the People magazine picture when he was in New York about a month ago, Clay is spending a lot of time in New York. That begs the question, why? Hmmm............ Of course, I am hoping for CD progress and meeting with this British producer who is flying back and forth (my wish list only!).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY TO AAIT! MAY YOUR DAY BE ALL YOU WISH IT TO BE!

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY A DAY EARLY TO COUNTDOWN GIRL AIKIM WHO IS GOING AWAY THIS WEEKEND TO CELEBRATE HER ANNIVERSARY!

  11. So basically we are only willing to dump Clay if he turns out to be a war criminal or sociopath?

I can see y'all saying, "But he had a really good reason for stealing borrowing the Hope Diamond! It needed to be cleaned or something. And it's not identity theft - hell, we gave him our licenses and credit cards and birth certificates and marriage certificates. He told us he needed them for radio play!"

I could so see that, the radio play part! :cryingwlaughter:

  12. I think the "blowtorched puppy" question is a very interesting one, if one looks deep into oneself. For me, I think it would be that he'd have to be arrested and convicted for a major crime -- murder, for example. Not that I think that would happen though....

I hate the image of a "blowtorched puppy", but I agree that it would have to be a major crime, as in Phil Spector or OJ, for me to not be able to separate the man and the music. I can't really think of anything else. I'd happy follow him to any genre of music, even Mongolian Polka! His voice appeals to me more than any other voice has ever appealed to me. The rest is a bonus.

  13. And this is totally original too!

To do, or not to do--that is the question:

Whether 'tis nobler in the body to suffer

    <snip>

To sleep--perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub, (Rubbing is good)

When he himself might his quietus make (My subconscious says these are all nice phallic symbols, so I'm leaving 'em alone).

KAndre bows to the fans of her literary plagarism genius...especially merrieeee!

Think of it as highbrow sampling!

Seriously funny stuff here, especially, the "ay, there's the rub". :cryingwlaughter::clap:

    OK, possible thread titles:

Oh, the places you can go with Seuss, Shakespeare, and Poe! (that even rhymes!)

Madwomen and Claymates run wild! (that's a take-off on mad dogs and Englishmen)

Stop the thread, I want to get off! (that speaks for itself)

  14. ehhhh - I'd do him in a buggy, too.

    Ha you'd do him anywhere!!!!!

Green eggs and ham, anyone? Is there deep, deep symbolism in Dr. Seuss?

I think the bristling at the word "Claymate" is because some do not like being lumped into a one size fits all category. Claymate variety "abc" may be very distasteful to Claymate variety "xyz". Claymate is a United Nations term and some prefer being identified by their individual country.

  15. jmh, I've been reading here and may have some ideas you could use. I don't know if any of these hints will work for you, but they have worked for me:

Bathing - Get a bath bench and shower massage with hose. I hose down mom, she soaps up with a washcloth and liquid soap and then I hose her down again for a rinse. It takes about 10 minutes. I have a full size mat for inside the tub and I also use a tub mat right outside the tub to hopefully limit falls. I've also washed hair by bending her over the sink and using the kitchen sprayer. A NoRinse shampoo product is available too.

Feeding - Buy large adult washable bibs. I ususally clip a paper towel to them so I have to wash the bibs less frequently. Silicone pot holders underneath dishes are good at keeping dishes steady. Mom has a can of a liquid nutrition drink every day that serves as a meal replacement; we use Boost or Glucerna as mom is a diabetic. She has the same breakfast every morning along with the same two snacks during the day, and we have a few revolving dinner menus. Routine is good.

Bathroom accidents - I keep a rolling plastic set of drawers in the bathroom with plastic grocery bags inside. Soiled diapers and clothing go into individual grocery bags which mom is to leave in a bathroom corner until I can take care of them. I have kept extra diapers and clothing in the car in case an accident happens at the doctor's office. We use the belted Depends and like them because if you have an accident, you can do an easy change without having to take clothing off as with regular pull-ons. We also have a bedside commode (which Medicare will cover) and I have quilted leakage control pads over the bed and on chairs.

Healthcare catalogs are very good for purchasing products you can use. I found a bedcane that is great for mom to use to balance herself for getting into and out of bed and also a lever that works for exiting the car. We also bought a motorized chair for the staircase as the only tub is upstairs and I have installed grab bars everywhere; I've counted 10 throughout the house (some horizontally in hallways) and we have a detachable grab-handle over the tub rim.

wandacleo is right. You do what you need to do, especially if no one else is willing to do them. I have found myself doing things I never knew I would tackle.

:F_05BL17blowkiss: to all the caregivers here. It is a tough job!

  16. Happy Birthday idyjocelyn (pretty name!)

Today is my 25th Wedding Anniversary; Hubby and I will be spending it taking the car into be serviced before we go away this week-end; really looking forward to getting away.

Congratulations on the accomplishment of 25 years! And with the same guy, too! (that was the joke my Dad always used about 50 years with the same woman!)

I see the call has gone out in places for Clay to blog already. Whaaaa? Didn't we just recover from his last blogs? :cryingwlaughter:
ITA. Oy, the irony! I am enjoying the lower angst level this week.

Minimizing risk advice from the crocs link above:

Washington Metro's Lacosse and other escalator experts say the best way to prevent shoe entrapments is to face the direction the stairs are moving, keep feet away from the sides and step over the teeth at the end.
I almost had a tragic accident in a supermarket parking lot recently when my croc (or I suppose any other shoe might do it too) stepped right into a plastic shopping bag on the ground. Thank goodness I was pushing a cart or I think I would have fallen face first on the pavement. My foot must have perfectly timed its insert into an bag opened by a gust of wind and then when I thought I had extricated myself, I got my foot caught again in the bag loop. What a freak occurrence! Anyway, I'm now looking carefully at the pavement when I walk out of grocery stores.

So Clay tries to bring at least four friends with him to restaurants. No wonder managers like him. He's good for business.

  17. We thought of cool combos that my friend might like, like my old Ultimate IT collection, and a collection of duets, a couple of CDs that her mother might listen to in the car on the way to the beach next week if she doesn't know it's Clay till she's sucked in--that kind of thing. While burning CDs we watched a Chautauqua DVD that sylvie had burned for me. Nice to relive that concert, that whole 3 fer. It was a really special series of concerts and time with friends.

Oh, Oh, Oh, jmh, care to share what is on your Ultimate IT collection? I don't think I ever put together a compilation CD of that tour.

I second that suggestion! I'd be very interested in your choices.

  18. Speaking of the gutter mind of the audience, and Clay's response to it ... how about this one from Tampa .... the infamous "I got your stool" rap .... He's irresistably cute here ...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuGKhGSjLWg&NR=1

That was such a cute clip! This tour and the last have had the best banter. That's why even though I loved the JBT for the music, I would rank the last two tours as more fun just because we got to see more of Clay's personality.

  19. Well, to add to the earlier discussion of memorable Clay double entendres, Clay did say during this recent tour, "ladies, size matters", although I can't remember which city it was and what the context was. To me, that's another piece of possible evidence in the "he so knows" column, although I can see where this could just be normal bawdiness, and catering to a more adult audience. Does anyone know the city and the context?

I thought it was Orlando during "When I See You Smile" when a bunch of people held up those light up smiley faces. And I thought he said "size doesn't matter" because Angela's and Quianna's were different sizes?

I think you are right! Thanks for the clarification (although given the Kim Locke matter, "clarification" could be a loaded word here!). So, it was size doesn't matter; still, in IMO, a knowing double entendre.

Good thoughts for Caro and daughter and soon-to-be grandchild.
