  1. OMGosh! Do you know how devastating it is to click on the "My Friends" link at the top of this page and get the message "There are no friends to display"? :cry4:

It never bothered me before......until y'all started talking about it. I don't even know what it is, but somehow it smacks of the cool kids lunch table in junior high school.

Yup, I guess that is the problem with that in a small group like this or in OFC. I know the kids in school worry when they have few friends....but I don't really think anyone is using that function in FCA. I don;t think I have any friends set up here in FCA.

Oh I can easily avoid buying stuff in bookstores...its the used bookstores that can be very dangerous for me. I actually have a collection of Stephen King hardcopy books from used bookstores. I have about 20 books that I haven't read.

    ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!

    is it 5 yet?

So how's your day so far couchie???

  2. Everyone I know seems to use facebook.....except me. I just don't see the point of it.

luckiest, my DIL sent me a "request to add" me as a friend on facebook - back in Sept. I registered at myspace so I could visit Clay & Co's pages. I hate to add another site. But I would like to see her site. She works for an interior design firm in Wilmington and I'm sure she did a good job with her site. It's probably a place she can send potential clients to see her work???

Anyway - anybody else know more about it? I don't know why I'm hesitating.

    ???

If it were Clay requested me befriend him, would I hesitate? :cryingwlaughter: :cryingwlaughter: :cryingwlaughter:

Cotton its more for social networking cos as far as I can see its not really a site, more a page to put your pictures and blogs and other little features like videos and music. So I don;t know if your DIL would use it for clients. its probably to give you access to her photos and blogs.

I have a facebook account but more as a way to keep in touch with some family members. But when you join they go though your address book and will show the people you know that is already in Facebook and you can contact them and ask to be a friend.

It can be very addicting if you like taking a peak at your friends pictures and so on. But I don;t really go to it too often. I like to put an album of my kids so that its easy access for my cousins. I think that is mainly the purpose of making people your friend...you get to visit their pages and read their blog or see their pictures.

  3. I just don't get this "friends" thing at all. Periodically, I get messages that someone has requested I be their friend. Generally, I have no clue in hell who the person is, but I'm so grateful that ANYONE wants to be my friend that I say yes.

    These are desperate times.

I don't get it either but its the biggest thing on the net nowadays...collecting friends. I think its based on the popularity of facebook and myspace. That is why these new message board templates now have this social networking features...they are trying to keep up with the trend. I only have my family on facebook...but there are some people that just keep looking for people to make friends with.

  4. Has anyone else watched "Eli Stone"? I really like it. Very clever.

    EEEEEEEEEEEEE I love it...

I like almost everybody there except the fiance. I love the actor that plays Eli...love tonights episode...I was laughing through out.

I love it too - except like you the fiance!

I LOVE Eli and I love his assistant and got a kick out of Victor Garber's song and dance number!

Wouldn't it be fun (if it lasts long enough) if Clay came to Eli in a vision singing and dancing?

EEEEEEEEEEEEE perfect show to make a guest appearance...

  5. FromClaygary, if you are logged in at the OFC, look for a little blue link directly under Clay's pictures (slurp) that says "Your Friends." That will take you to a page where you can see "Good Friends" first (and I don't know how that one works yet -- any clues how make people good friends?) but you can also just click to see "Friends" too. Also, I've discovered in the past week that if you're invited to be a friend, a little message appears at the top of the page once you log in. You then get the chance to approve or deny that friend.

Thanks ldyj and ansam....well, if that's the way it works....noone is interested in being my friend apparently! :cryingwlaughter:

"Friends" is greyed out, and I can't click on it. So guess that means that anyone that was my friend previously is also gonzo.

Oh well. Junior high all over again. :cryingwlaughter:

there must be something wrong cos all my old friends got switched automatically...that should be blue. maybe you should send a ticket.

  6. Thanks couchie re the mugs...let us know what happens with it!

Kind of OT....does anyone know how to see your "friends" at the OFC? My understanding was that if you were signed in, and went to "Fan HQ", your friends appeared listed on that page. They don't for me. :(

I've had people tell me they've requested me/approved my request, but I have no idea how I see that. Don't want to have people thinking I don't love them anymore!

    What am I doing wrong?

I think you go to your page and on the upper right corner..,,under the banner, I think there is a friends link. That will show you your friends...at least thats what happened with me.

  7. playbiller and the rest of ya'll who don't care for shipping, cover your ears and sing "la la la" for a few seconds....

Shannon and Clay make a cute couple. Hee.

Cute or not - Two different worlds - they come from two different worlds,,,lah dah dah

She will soon be dressing other men and putting on their pants. I saw her backstage when sitting on the side. Clay had come down from the tower and was having his hat changed. Clay called out bring out your dead while his hat was adjusted and his back to the stage and someone else hit the triangle, Then Clay turned, grabbed it and ran out. I think there is very little time to admire when getting him in and out of his pants.281.gif

Play...you better put more emphasis on the word TIME in your last sentence...or else muski will go after you!!!!

  8. I couldn't wait to grow up and wear a fancy lace mantilla like my mother and grandmother...

We had little lace things we wore bobby pinned to our hair when we were kids. Round...like doilies. What were those then?

Oh my i remember those. I think the mantilla's are just longer...I too used to love looking at my moms but i think she rarely wore those.

I did have friends that were opus dei and they had to wear skirts that goes to their shins and had a looooong list of sins they have to avoid...including being in a car alone with a guy...and she couldn't go to our prom...they were pretty strict.

  9. I so wish I had been able to do Clack last Sunday. Aaaaaargh! It really was a long, long, looooong way from the first 2 nights of Spamalot. Not.the.same.thing. Opening night, yes he was counting-in-his-head.

And the ironic thing about this was... the guy sitting next to me on Sunday night attempted (ha!) to get some Clack! *chortles* You all know I have a very strong opinion about Spamalot Clack given all the multiple, firm, commanding requests from the cute guy but I didn't go call security like that killjoy Dad did at Waukegan last December (yes, I'm bitter, but not that bitter). But I sort of stared over his shoulder in fascination. Of course he got shut down big time -- not posting the details, because I don't want to give security advice -- but I just wanted to emphasize that people are dead serious about this. And the silly thing was it really wasn't very good clack -- our AI2 concert tour Clack was way better. Grrrr! I can't wait for the next tour to be able to say I-told-you-so.

hee its difficult not having visual aids huh.. it must be frustrating wanting to share what you saw but can't...thanks for helping us experience vicariously through your description.

  10. Heee...bows at KANdre...and BW

    yup I give up...hee...specially since

yeah I can see you dancing better than Clay...can't argue with that.

So for those interested at what Simon said...after he made the guy turn around and sing...he said that he should've asked Clay to do that....aww...Simon really thinks of clay a lot doesn't he...

oh and yeah I loved that kid that really out dissed Simon...hee. That was cool.

  11. Oh BTW...lots of Clay on Idol tonight...its at atlanta so they said they had found three superstars in atlanta...clay, jennifer and fantasia...that sold millions of records.

Then of course another slight diss from Simon...didn;t really get what he said, this guys would sing with a weird expression so they made him sing with his back to them then when he started dancing...Simon said something about like Clay Aiken and Randy and paula were both going...nooo...stop...so not sure what that is about.

then they showed the start of clays audition looking all dorky and said something like not looking like a pop start but he had the voice...then they went on to say that the same patter was happening...then they showed all these dorky looking people...but one difference...they didn't have the voice. So I say...was ok.

  12. hee... this is fun... but saying he is a natural at dancing is very far from saying that he is a great dancer. I agree with your point. There are a lot of people that can sing easily...but its not everyday you find someone that is as great as Clay's voice. In the same way there are a lot of people that can dance to the beat and can really move well but that does not make them an MJ and JT. But you can still say that they can dance. I really don't think anyone has said he is a great dancer so that he can be compared to MJ and JT. I do think that a lot of the awkwardness in his movements is because he is not used to dancing and has drilled it into his head that he can't dance...but when he lets himself forget that he can;t dance and is simply in the performance, I find that he can .

  13. Jazzgirl...ITA that the Mann article can be taken as positive or neutral...depends on how we interpret that last line.

Kandre and scarlett....fascinating conversation...I wish I can see him dancing live too. I think what a lot of people may see as a natural about Clay is that he definitely can move his body...he is not stiff...I think what keeps him from being a better dancer is simply being self-conscious. I also think that one of the things that would separate Clay from the JT and MJ of this world is simply experience. These dancers that make it seem effortless actually had hours and hours of practice to make it look as good as that. Even the untrained kids that go on So you Think You Can Dance have a lot of dancing time under their belts...they just didn't do it formally. The fact that Clay can do a credible job besides these professional Broadway actors...is amazing considering he only had a few weeks practice and practically zero training and minimal experience. if he didn't have natural abilities...I think his inexperience will stand out so much more. I do think it helps that the choreography for the principal parts are not very complicated. I don;t know if DHP has had any dance training or experience but he didn't move like a dancer either...rather more like an actor.

  14. I don't think I would say that clowning around is a sign of a short attention span, there are plenty of other reasons for behavior like that and I would ablsolutely not try and diagnose him as ADD! He has far from the many symptoms for that. heck, I don't even know if I believe a diagnosis by a doctor because appropriate testing was not done, it was based on a casual conversation - more in my saga about mememememememe, it is always about mememememe. So can we kill the talk about Clay and ADD, please! You know how quickly an offhand comment gets picked up as a fact!!!!

I wasn't diagnosing him...I was just saying it is a possibility. I just don't know why we can't take Clay's word for him having a short attention span. Its just that when you say the reason you think he doesn't it does not take away that possibility. Its just that I know a lot of adults with ADD and they are able to study and learn complex things and sit for long periods of time, its not always easy, but they are able to do it. There are also different levels of short attention span. I guess my argument is .... there are things that are observable with Clay that is consistent with short attention span so when he says he has a short attention span I don't have a reason not to believe him.

  15. Personally, I believe Clay has downplayed his prior stage experience because, 1) high school and local community theater really is completely different than Broadway, and 2) it suits him to appear modest and self-deprecating. I suspect that to some extent, it's part of his self-defense mechanism. Position yourself as a newbie, and any faults can be chalked up to inexperience. Declare yourself a stage veteran, and you may be held to a higher standard.

Quite frankly, if he'd gone into interviews saying, "Well, I've performed in high school and community theater, so I know how this is done," people might have laughed at his arrogance. Broadway is far, far beyond where he was as a teenager. No doubt, his prior experience has helped him. However, I don't think that bringing up those early roles really gives him that much more credibility.

Perhaps I'm alone in this, but I actually love his modesty. I know others would prefer that he promote his accomplishments more forcefully, but I find his self-effacement charming and not at all detrimental to his image or career.

Nope you are not alone...I love him for it. I don;t know why some fans want him to be tooting his own horn...I can;t stand braggarts and name droppers... so why should he try to be one. I think this is part of why I am a Clay fan.

I also think clay is just being realistic. He really doesn't have that extensive body of work to brag about anyway. So why pretend...just be proud and grateful for being where he is and continue to work at his craft and get respect for his current accomplishments.

  16. I don't know Play but from some of Clay's behavior I really wouldn't be surprised if he does have a short attention span. A lot of his problems in school ...talking and clowning around ...are classic behavior of kids with ADD.There are a lot of people with short attention span that has learned to cope with this and are able to do well in school and focus. So I wouldn't automatically think that Clay is not perfectly serious when he said this.

What was clear from Clay;s blog was that he was the youngest in the cast...he was only 17 when everyone else was over 21. It was a risk that Terrence took choosing him...Clay was grateful, but Terrence was probably a little sorry at the time...thats ok it happens.

  17. IMO Clay is not a name dropper anyway. Why would he walk around dropping Terrence Mann. Who is Terrance Mann. I know people would love Clay to talk more about his "experience" but really he doesn't have much experience in this arena.

Who is Terrance Mann? I agree Couchie. When I heard folks oohing and ahhing over Terrance Mann, and the fact that Clay had "worked" with him. I thought who is this guy. Then I thought, oh I think I might have seen him in a Kenley Players production years ago, so I go and look up all of the Kenley players shows and no, it wasn't there. I guess it was Terrance Monk I remembered seeing in one of those. I guess he is a fairly well respected stage actor and it seems he's had guest TV roles on some of the soaps and primetime tv shows. Fact is, the name Clay Aiken is a lot more recognizable name than Terrance Mann, and I think that is a result of some luck, a lot of talent and some hard work.

WORD atinal. I had to google him too and as soon as I saw a picture I knew I saw him before. I guess he did a bit of soap opera work too...but he originated a lot of popular Broadway roles like Javert on Le Miz, Rum Tum Tugger in Cats, Beast in Beauty and the Beast. I'm sure in the theater world he is very well respected and well known. I suspect he mentioned Clay in passing as someone he worked with and the writer made sure he used that name on his article for hits.

  18. Hee...CG...you will have to batt your lashes at 00lsee for a wallpaper...I agree that is totally GAAAAHH

Oh this whole thing with Terrence Mann is so amusing. When it first came out that Clay worked with him some fans were wondering why he never mentioned it before...I guess its because we was a very young bit player that probably got shouted at a few times.

I really have no problem with that article about Terrence. As Play reminded us... its possible that he mentioned Clay as someone he worked with before. Couldn;t even remember how many years...cos I think Clay said he was 17 and the rest is creative editing. Even if the quotes were accurate...he said this before Clay started on Spamalot...people grow up and this is not a reflection of how he is now.

BUT what was making me shake my head was fans saying Clay should be mentioning all these theater background and not say that he is inexperienced. I totally disagree with that. These are really bit parts in high school local theater...its not like he was seriously working on being on stage...so he knows that would be just artificially puffing up his resume. He proves himself with what he can do now...no need to try and get cred by mentioning he was apple seller in Annie..

  19. I think two of the others who leave the island are Jin and Sun, mainly because I think it will allow them to have the baby off the island.

As for the person in the coffin, I'm with CG on this. I really don't think it's Hurley, because I can't imagine him becoming so alienating that no one but Jack would show up.

My theory: the person in the coffin is Ben. I think it would be an interesting twist if someone who didn't want to leave was actually forced to do so, and Ben probably wouldn't have friends or acquaintances off the island. I suspect that the reason Jack was so upset to read about his death was because he thought he was the one guy who might be able to get back to the island. He may have gone to the funeral hoping to meet others who might have such knowledge, but was disappointed to see no one else there.

Thats a interesting theory....I like it. For all we know they still don't know who it will be...hee

  20. JJ first of all, although I am a CV member I do not go there regularly so I cannot really say whether you gave an accurate picture of the CV admin but I respect that is your experience and your opinion. However...at this point I would like to end that discussion because I really don;t feel like going into how other people run their board.

We do not have a say on what you post on other boards, that was never the problem. We were simply concerned that the discussion yesterday about posting a response will be seen as plotting by members of this board against another poster on another board. I know that wasn't the intention but the admins felt we had to step in before it gets further.

I do agree that it is frustrating when other fans follow the words of certain posters. I do know that at times its a domino effect. Once someone that is "well respected" in the board posts something negative...then others follow. Although its true that some are simply being lemmings...I do think that at times this simply give others the permission to post unpopular opinion that they had in the first place. I've been in this position before...posting against the popular POV. Its difficult at times cos you know you will get jumped on...but a lot of times I will get pms from people thanking me for saying something they didn't have the courage to say.

With regards to experts... I do acknowledge that there are people with more info about this industry. I am glad when they share that...but then I still make my own opinion based on the info we have. NO ONE...can be an expert on Clay's business because we do not know what he actually wants and what they are actually dealing with.
