  1. I would not make them too Claycentric. However, perhaps a quote from Clay could be used on the half title page or title page. I think you could play with some ideas and see how it works out. There are many quotes over at Brainy Quote and at Clay Aiken the Ideal Idol. Google Clay Aiken Quotes and you will find lots of pages of quotes. Many are duplicates, though. http://clayaikentheidealidol.com/quotesfromclay.html http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/c/clay_aiken.html
  2. To do it properly - yes - it does need a lot of equipment. However, a pile of bricks can be substituted for a bookpress and you don't really need a sewing frame and other adaptations can be made. The one essential is a paper cutter strong enough to cut binders' board and it must be able to cut absolutely square corners. I make books in the traditional way - folded signatures sewn over linen tapes and bound in in cloth/paper covered boards. There are lots of places around the country that give workshops. I first learned at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC and have recently taken classes at the Campbell Folk School in North Carolina. There are lots of places that teach "quick & dirty" ways of putting pages together that are fun and useful if you don't want to get too involved. I teach a class and the universal response is, "I didn't think it would be so complicated." If your books show up at a TBAF Gala or a benefit sale somewhere I will be bidding.
  3. You are not alone. I look back at the last six years and see lots of career activity with much of it accompanied by surprises. Is is all along a path I would have foreseen? Nope. Is it all at the frequency I would have wished? Or in locals that are convenient to me? Again, No, but it has been sufficient to assure me that Clay Aiken is here to stay and will probably outlast me by a long shot. So while Clay takes some time to himself. I will also.
  4. I can juggle my schedule during that time. PermaSwooned is the one with scheduling issues. Check with her and others and then just tell me when and I will be there.
  5. oh god I went through this for months --where I couldn't see his blogs..and suddenly it all worked again. I am so sick of this.I flipped through all my channels and the only thing I could find even remotely interesting to watch was High Plains Drifter. That's it..tomorrow I'm cancelling everything but basic and getting netflix or blockbuster. Who's better? My daughter has Netflix and loves it. She just has the basic Netflix so just gets one movie at a time. It works for her because the turn around time is so quick. With school and activities she and the kids only watch movies on weekends. In between they check out the Netflix on-line offerings. Before you cancel back to BASIC cable make sure basic has what you want. There may be different levels of basic.
  6. How about an outing to Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa? Or, we could revisit Pala.
  7. KarenEh Denmark? Be afraid. Be very afraid. That one is doable for some people I know. Better get a big place.
  8. Let me know when you all get done with musing out of your asses. I am trying to stay well this winter and that just sounds sick. Meanwhile, according to Antimusic.com RCA has confirmed the break happened in '08.
  9. John D? Yes. No. Maybe. Do not care. Considering the number of gay men in the entertainment business Clay was surrounded with opportunities to hook up with many partners. Or with none. Sometimes a friend is just a friend. Or more. I have no way of knowing until the book is written. Even then it does not really matter to me.
  10. Didn't Jacob post a snippy remark about never working for Clay again somewhere immediately after the event? It disappeared as soon as the Clay blog hit. It seemed as if Jacob was starting to defend himself from some sort of Team Clay attack that was not going to be forthcoming and he backed off. That tour was when Jacob was dating his now wife back in Utah and zipping back and forth to see her. He is now based in Utah. It was after this that Clay mentioned that it was hard to be the boss especially when he had to enforce rules equally on everyone, even friends.
  11. Uh... ..I mean....how did you KNOW? Lots of practice and experience.
  12. Once you have done it successfully it gets easier. You know how it is supposed to feel so you just jiggle a bit until it hits the right spot.
  13. I hope you at least have a pot to pee in. Do that first and then look at the door knob. If it has a tiny hole right in the middle you need to find something straight and rigid that will fit into that hole. Inside the hole is a tiny button that when pressed will release your joy. Oops, I mean unlatch the door. A nail or an ice pick or an unbent paper clip will do. Stick it straight in and press when you hit something solid. If you miss the mark your implement will go in too far without hitting resistance. Withdraw and try again. If there is no hole you need a screwdriver to take off the door knob.
  14. It makes no sense to you because you see things differently. Some of the clearest examples are made with analogies, where there is no relationship with the actual subject, it works better to remove oneself from the emotional factor and use clear cut examples. I guess I know when I've be told.
  15. ...especially the bolded part! Ah you see, you are expecting them to be the same as you, and in a perfect world, that is how it would be, with everyone sharing the same values. It isn't a perfect world, and I am not perfect by a long shot and I cannot think of anyone who is close to it even if they have qualities that I am in awe of. Not even Mother Teresa who had her own agenda on certain issues that created a furore with certain groups. Yet she appeared to be selfless, the epitome of compassion. Everyone is different, and for me, this situation with the troubled Clay fans is really a non-event compared to problems most of us have at home in some shape or form. Right now, for me to think about being upset with anyone who isn't loving Clay in a balanced way "like I am", I only have to think about the people who burned to death last week, and to think of their family and friends who are left with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and to think of the emergency people (the equivalent of your 911) who listened to the screams of terror from people calling from their cell phones, to the emotional state of a mother who got a call from her 21 year old son who, clutching his girlfriend, died on the phone saying goodbye to his mother. Some things CAN be simple if we put things into perspective. Your examples make no sense to me as they have no relationship, in my mind, to some fan wanting attention and sympathy for being a Clay hater. ETA Neither does your conclusion about what I said.
  16. Sorry, but to me it is much simpler. They will not offer to Clay that which they expect from us. They want everyone to be as miserable as they are. I have no patience with the people who cannot offer an open heart to Clay yet want me to open my heart to them. It would be easier if they were not so damn hypocritical about the whole thing.

  18. Hee, couchie. At least they didn't set fire to it! My DS did that to my couch one time, lol! Have they taken the scissors to it yet? Check the back.
  19. OK, Now I know the real reason Clay is not at the Grammy's. It is that old Thom Yorke thing.
  20. I do not think that will work. He is already towers over most of the other male performers on those long legs of his, just think of the jealousy if they saw the size of his other leg.
  21. I think I know why Clay has not made it to many awards shows. He is too tall. Man, most of those male singers are shrimp sized even in heels.
  22. I saw that today, too. Incredible! You know, if that whole thing was in a movie you'd say - pfffft - unbelievable. Hee - I always scoffed a little at the flight attendant's 'in case of a water landing' spiel. Umm, that's not a landing, that's a crash! But this proved me wrong. My favorite section from the transcript
  23. Thank you for the information about Justine Saunders. That post you mention was from me. I started visitng Australia in 1995. I went to speak at a library conference, made friends and returned every two years from 1995 through 2005. I missed the 2007 conference. Attending library conferences gave me the opportunity to meet people and be introduced to how things work in the communities. Starting off with a trip to the Tiwi Islands was educational. The first museum we visited had lots of photographs of community life. However a number of the photos had tissue paper strips covering some of the people in the photos. When asked about them the young man showing us around explained that after a person died his or her family determined the length of the mourning period and during that period the persons name was not mentioned nor were pictures of that person viewed. Since it was a community museum they abided by that custom, hence the covered photographs. Later when I visited the Northern Land Council library in Darwin they connected that practice to the practical problem of delays caused by witness deaths in land grant cases. Not only had the witness died but all traces of that person's evidence evaporated until the family said the mourning period was over. There are other cultural issues to consider such as both women's and men's taboos that involve what can be said to whom. I vaguely remember a long standing conflict over a bridge right away. There were Aboriginal complaints but for years no one could explain why. Later it was revealed that the right away infringed on land covered by women's taboos that could not be revealed or even said to exist. I think something was waivered to be able to give general statements. I am not sure the bridge was ever built on that spot. That library was the only one in the Northern Territory at that time with both closed stacks and closed catalog. Everyone else was busy setting up on-line catalogs but this library had to maintain the confidentiality of its records. I am not sure if their collection is on line now. Their general references may be but the archival material may still be restricted. That is an issue as I understand the land council is coming up on its 30 year anniversary and freedom of information rules may kick in on some stuff. Australian relationships between anglos and Aboriginal peoples are interesting because they are so right there. Now there is the influx of other cultures into Australia that have their own points of friction. There is still a lot to learn but they are hashing it out in public from what I can see. I think that is a good thing.
  24. It probably wasn't queer..people are used to that..but as she said she used lots of other adjectives..I can't think of them right now..strawberry something or other. Our favorite strawberry fruitcake and rebel belle come to mind. Oh and I think the fans were called queenyboppers. LMAO! Really none of it bothered me cause instead of being said in an insulting way it came across to me as more endearing than anything else. And sorry but some of these actually made me laugh because they are soooo OTT. OMG, I must be totally insensitive as it never even crossed my mind that "strawberry fruitcake" and "rebel belle" were in any way negative. And, I kind of thought "queenyboppers" was cute. I am partial to Strawberry Fruitcake myself.
