  1. That is especially stupid because there are now and have been gays in the military since forever. Over 20 years ago I asked my Chief MSgt husband his opinion about serving with or supervising gays. He laughed at me and said all he cared about was if a man or woman was trustworthy and could he or she do the job. He said he had worked with gays for over 20 years and it made no difference to him because it made no difference to getting the job done. TPTB really need to get a grip on this issue and put their personal fears and prejudices aside.
  2. I am honored to share. I picked my birthday hoping Clay would give me a nice gift. We can have that drink either in Las Vegas or at the Gala since I will be at both.
  3. Mandalay Bay is expensive for rooms but the Luxor is nearby and it is $150 per night. That is where artquest and I are staying.
  4. Pay attention and use common sense. Pandemics can move fast once established in the population. UCR is at level one readiness which is primarily preparation and being ready to act. It meant our getting a message to take care of our personal and family emergency plans in case schools close or we get sick. Thousands of students fresh back from spring break living in a limited environment is fertile ground for any air born infection so we have to be ready for anything. Level 2 is triggered when there is a confirmed case in our city. At that point supplies are being moved into place, some activities and facilities shut down and students that are well and can travel sent home. Level 3 takes only one case on campus. At that point everyone who is not essential is not even here. Sick students are isolated and I am home for the duration. The emergency plan is interesting to read as it covers things like which rooms in which buildings have recirculating air systems so make better medical wards, when to consider revisions to sick leave policy for staff, when to send students and then staff home, at what point all remaining staff have respiratory filters, the need for patrols to prevent looting of campus buildings and all sorts of stuff. At the moment If you are not planning a trip to Mexico you probably only need to be aware of your personal health. Run a fever, start coughing with a sore throat? Head for the doctor. Do not wait. Wash your hands a lot and stay away from sick people when you can. If you share a phone or computer consider antiseptic wipes. We have been flat out told to not come to work sick. It is the same stuff we should do every day.
  5. Clay is on a roll tonight over at OFC. Nice long answers and telling stories.
  6. It is there with a vengence in the FOX screen caps. There is still some swelling and stiffness on one side which accentuates the crookedness of his smile. I hope that eases up in the coming months. I really think this down time is planned recuperation from his little procedure. The speech was funny and touching. I really think Clay has had an awakening this year. His place within the world has changed in many ways. Coming out has freed him. Becoming a parent has bound him. Sounds like Clay is a normal well rounded man.
  7. There is a study out somewhere that says dogs can smell/sense a DNA string. It is not just that they can recognize their family members, they can recognize yours, too. I find it something that is easy to believe because I have seen it in action. Our dog Sam was old and crotchety. He would have nothing to do with strangers and would just as soon eat them alive as look at them. Luckily he was a miniature dog. My husband's brother and his family came out from back east to visit. When the family walked into the house I braced myself for a barking frenzy. What I saw instead was Sam calmly rise from his bed sniff a few times and then walk over to greet everyone with a wagging tail. Years later when we adopted Nigel we had a family Christmas celebration with lots of adults and kids. Again, a sniff or two and Nigel was his happy rambunctious self. I have a photo of him standing guard over the latest baby in the family. That baby is now fifteen and until his last days Nigel had a special bond with her.
  8. Can this be shared with our friends at other boards? Some may post here and some may not.
  9. There is a pool at the hotel. just saying.
  10. If you are looking for airfares for the GALA, Southwest Airlines has just recently opened bookings for October 2009. Rates look pretty good from the west coast. I got round trip for $345.

  12. I will be there. Permaswooned will probably be there also. I would think a lot of people might be interested in attending. It worked well last time for people to just come on down, find a seat in the back room, hit the buffet and pay individually.
  13. I will send some positive healing waves toward Jack and to you for the stress you are under. Take care.
  14. If you want to see then watch this video from Britain's Got Talent. Watch the entire piece because it is amazing. You will smile and maybe cry a bit. ETA Background on Susan Boyle.
  15. I think there is plenty of evidence that Clay is a fighter when it comes to what he thinks is right.
  16. Annabear, tell your mother she has my sympathy. Our companions give us so much love it is hard to let them go when we must. Give yourselves some hugs.
  17. Hm...*squints* I think he's had 'some work done' if you know what I mean. Trust me. I can tell. His jaw looks square and his face is swollen. Compare it to Clay's profile. Clay's face is so much slimmer and chiseled. :28:
  18. luckiest1 please keep sharing your puppy experiences. Our 16 year old Nigel Heeler/Lab mix passed on this weekend. It is sweet to hear of new beginnings for another much loved pup.
  19. I sure hope you bought that silk Tabriz rug your DH liked. It is a beauty and the price is really good if you think about what it would cost back here.
  20. OK. Now I am totally confused. I went back and found the original schedule for Couchie's visit to San Diego and found I originally read that as April 28 to May 4 when I guess it should have been March 28th to April 4th. I am now totally confused and wonder if it is feasible for us to even do Glen Ivy. I am near by. It takes me 45 minutes to get there. Everyone else is going to be more like 1 1/2 to 2 hours away with good traffic. If Couchie has to head home on Wednesday there may not be time to fit in a spa visit this trip. Rats! Let me know what will work for everyone.
  21. Perma. I agree with your conclusion but not quite how you got there. Ever since AI Mr. Frugal has always had a leaning toward flying first class -- even for his dog. cindilu2, Thanks for the nipple confirmation. I was wondering if my computer screen needed cleaning.
