  1. Did your daughter get a scholarship?

Both of mine are going to Iowa State University. My daughter did not think she would go there. It was the last campus that we visited, but she was blown away by their program. She will be a part of WISE, Women in Science and Engineering. Her roommate is a math major. Her whole floor will be girls in this program.

My daughter is majoring in Computer Science and ISU is certified in some special program that Microsoft requires. Every one of their students that graduated with a Com Sci degree this past Spring had job offers. That's pretty amazing in this economy. I've heard it's the same for the Mechanical Engineering students.

My son is in an apartment on campus, so it's easier to let go knowing that he is down there.

Both of my kids qualified for a scholarship that ALMOST brings the tuition down to in-state cost. We are lucky and my MIL is helping a lot and we have saved since they were babies. It's still going to be tight.

  2. Gibby,

When will she be 17? My 18 year old is leaving for college in August. I can't imagine letting her go at 16.

Hi, Paulette! She will be 17 on July 1st, so she'll barely be 17 when she goes to college. Eeeeep! She will probably be fine, but it's a little hard on Mom! During orientation there were parent sessions, which of course included info on how to pay your mooolah to the university. But there were also sessions about letting your teen have more independence, letting them make their own mistakes, letting them solve their own problems, etc. I might need a couple of more sessions like that! :)

Do I remember correctly that your son already went off to college? So you'll have two in college next year - your son and daughter?

Yes, my son will be a junior. How did your daughter graduate so early? She must be one bright girl.

  3. Scroll, merrieeee. (And no it's not an adorable snowflake picture. :whistling-1: )

The thing that makes me want to puke about the RS cover is the trouser snake. How pathetic is that? Wonder how many guys will be interested in buying that issue with a damned snake on the man's pants, coiled and ready to strike his crotch. That's beyond over the top. That's a fucking desperate attempt to be hip and cool, when it really screams POSER!!! The dude isn't 19, or even 25 so his adolescent comments and that hideous pose can't be written off to immature by reason of young age and naivete. If I had to put one word on that cover it would be ..... contrived.

I've had it with the Blame Clay First people. Really sick of it. Freaking and fretting because Clay's comments about Adam make him look bad to the "cool" people? Oh really? I think his comments were spot on -- and seem to be in line with general public opinion, for what that's worth. It's reminiscent of the K-Lo non-flap over the imaginary joint tour, and those who wrote that Clay owed her an apology, that he had unnecessarily humiliated her, and such foolishness as that. Clay had five years+ of being cautious about expressing himself -- and thank goodness that's over. I hope he always says what's on his mind, and if it gives some people bleeding hemorrhoids, TFB. If it's controversial, so be it. If he has to put his hand over Kelly Ripa's mouth again, go for it, dude. I love my King of Controversy. Clay is not only a uniquely talented singer, he has a high-functioning brain, an often-unique point of view, a heart of gold cream cheese (soft and sweet), and he's endlessly interesting and entertaining. The last thing I want to see is Clay having to walk some tightrope of conventionality in a vain attempt to blandly please everyone; because that's my preferred definition of "uncool."

Okay, rant over. And I do feel better.

    :preachit:

  4. I had to laugh when listening to my sports radio today... one of the non sports topics was collaborations between artists that you never expected -- the good, the bad and the ugly. About Julio Iglesius and Willie Nelson - Of all the girls I've loved before - Tom said stop! my ears are bleeding LOL. The winner for worse hands down was a duet between Don Johnson (Miami Vice) and Barbra Stresiand. Heee. They played a little bit of it. My ears didn't bleed but I sure got a chuckle. Winners were Aerospace and Run DMC's Walk This Way.

    Aerospace???? :cryingwlaughter:

  5. I was not really on the boards during AI. I checked out Bolt a few times but found it impossible to keep up with. Given that, I thought that Simon meant 'gay' when he said Broadway. I could see the pimping for Ruben without reading the boards. It was so obvious.

I do agree with Simon quite often, especially in the early rounds, but once he has his favorites picked out, he loses perspective.

I can't stand Conan. I can't stand anyone who stoops to using gay jokes as often as Conan does. I also always hated how he made fun of Ruben's weight. I hope Conan crashes and burns when he takes over for Leno. Kelly R. showed her true colors and I can't stand looking at her face. What she did to Clay was unforgivable.

  6. So some fan posted that on Reed's myspace? Eh. Not sure what the big deal is. Probably just me. It could also be that the last 24 hours of baseball has made me rather cranky.

Sorry to any NY fans, but I hate the Yankees. The Twins payroll for their whole roster would only pay for two of the Yankee's players. How is that fair? Sometimes I really hate baseball.

  7. The tickets for a Silver or Gold table are the same - $1000. A Silver table is 5 people and they'll seat you with another Silver group to fill the table. A Gold table is 10 people and I believe you get better seating.

There is a another table that costs $25,000, $2,500 each, and you get the best table location and individual pictures with Clay.

ETA: What kind of mural is on Faye's building? I've never heard about that.
