  1. Ever have one of those days when you just feel totally "off," and kinda blechy to boot? Well, today was one of those days for me. I bought a grilled chicken sandwich for lunch at work, and couldn't even finish it. Ended up coming home and sleeping for four hours! My stomach still feels a bit quesy, but I think I'll survive at this point.

couchie, yes, I've left my ATM card in the machine -- and actually didn't realize it until the bank called me!

As far as TV tonight -- what AI finale? I'm watching 3 hours of Lost this evening! (The "all your questions answered" special is on first, don't forget that!)

The way I look at it, no matter whether I like the artist or not, if he or she is selling well and making money then it bolsters the pedigree of all of them including (and most important to me, Clay). If the stable of AI grads are solid performers on the charts and in the stores, it moves each one of them by association, one step further away from the image of “just a reality show contestant.” As more seasons pass and if the crop has a good yield year after year….it’s all good.

Once again, Karen Eh? and I share a brain. Can I have it in two weeks? Summer school starts then and I'm gonna need it....

  2. I am not cheering about a competition between DWTS (don't usually watch it) and AI (Stopped watching that, too). As I said, My anger this year with AI is the stupidity of wasting the buzz they had by using it to attack a child.

I'm not entirely sure Sanjaya didn't make out like a bandit - and deservedly so. He figured out how to capitalize on the show and a huge opportunity to his own benefit - the American dream... Hell, he's MY American Idol just for that alone.

Yep. See also: Hung, William. Although he was not a kid (and I think AI doesn't really care about age, it just hurts worse when it's a 17 year old, or in the case of Kevin Corvais, even younger), he took the "buzz" and made some money out of it. I get the feeling that Sanjaya is strong enough to not care about the jibes after he left the show, and will make something from this attention.

As for the AI machine vs. other television shows -- I basically agree with most of what you say CG in that the AI show will still be around for a long while, even though the ratings are down. What I find fascinating though is all the media attention to those down ratings though. But, OTOH, season 3 had "down" ratings too if I remember correctly (especially compared with season two and some cute singer there)...and the show survived. As for the "competition" aspect between it and DWTS -- that's the media for you. ITA with couchie that it IS a competition. That's why both finales are capping off the sweeps period, and that's how advertising rates are set. While there was no direct competition between the two shows, the media will play that aspect up for a long time to come.

But in the end, I'm mostly like luckiest1 -- meh, although I did get sucked into the DWTS machine this year, mostly due to my Mom (86 years old, who LOVES the show). It's all just TV to me -- a great way to waste time, have fun, maybe expand my brain a little bit (or lose some brain cells *g*). In the grand scheme of things....

BTW, I got 20 votes in for Clay that evening, and I wasn't even trying all that hard.

    When's Clay's next appearance? *g*

    :allgood:

  3. Ansa, the winner of DWTS gets....that mirror ball trophy, and bragging rights. That's it. HOWEVER -- the fame that comes with it is enormous.

I just wonder what a surprise it must be for people that have not followed Clay's career and have not had the opportunities to enjoy the humor and talent that we have been privy to these last four years. Wow!

No kidding. A prime time appearance filled with his self-depricating humor probably shocked more than a few people.

That reminds me -- my Mom is addicted to DWTS. I hope she was able to stay up and watch the entire thing. And will I get a phone call from her today saying "I saw Clay last night?"

We were talking about how Jimmy at first wasnt so 'nice' to Clay and how things had changed....my 17 year old son says that Jimmy got smart! lol

    love it....

Another "no kidding" moment. Those early jokes by Kimmel (grrrr). Clay appearing on the show for the first time and seemingly making a great impression. The next appearance, though, is the one that I think really "sealed the deal" -- Clay beating Jimmy up for all those jokes. I really believe that Jimmy thought at that point "hey, this guy can make fun of himself, and yet stand up to me too." While I will never believe that they are fast friends, going out together every time Clay is in LA, I really appreciate the on-screen friendship they seem to have. And yes, if the Climmel ever breaks up, it will be a sad day in Whoville.

The DWTS finale, on the other hand was pretty fun, even if it did have too much filler. The finalists actually deserved to be there, the dances were fun, and the promotion for the summer tour wasn't too obnoxious. Oh, and there was that "Mustache Magic" Guy, too. I'll have to see if the Kimmel bit comes up in the DWTS conversation at work today.

    :allgood:

Sadly, the skit wasn't one of AOL's top 5 clips for the night (Apolo winning was, of course). But I still will be listening around to see if anyone will be talking about it today too.

Does anyone have the screencap which the CH banner is made? I think I need a new avatar....

  4. I don't think the changes are bad, in fact it keeps him plenty interesting. It's just one small part of who is he, but he could be bald and I'd still love the voice and the personality.

He's kind of fascinating......don't you think?

    Totally agree! {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}

From GBB at the CH, reporting on "The Colbert Report" on Comedy Central:

Stephen Colbert just said there'd been a lot of Clay Belly-Achin' over Melinda Doolittle's outser *g*

Love Mr. Colbert, but I missed the show tonight because I've been a posty postwhore!

  5. Totally agree with this. He looks like a 12 year old trying to look grownup with a fake mustache. Of course, he's still totally cute. But, PLEASE.....get a better cut before the concerts! We want HOT Clay!

I'm not a hairdresser at all, but I really think that if the bangs were combed just a bit differently, his hair right now would look EXACTLY like the Gala hair. I really do. The length, to me, seems almost the same.

But then what do I know? I still think he's hawter than hawt. Clay being Clay is simply hot to me.

  6. To be honest -- I'd be happy with any of the three winning. ITA KAndre that has done so much, and I totally admire that as a "big girl" like her. To get that kind of grace, she's done fantastically.

You know what else? I'm actually not minding all the "filler" for this show. AI's filler is just so cheesy, IMO. So far on the DWTS finale, Im' entertained.

But I need my Clay fix.

  7. Oh, I'm watching it on the hi def in the living room!

So am I! The joy of having a laptop!

I want Apolo to win and Laila to come in second...Joey just doesn't thrill me - but he is good. Very boy-bandy, oddly enough <snerk>

But I LIKE boy-bandy! (Although I was more of Backstreet Boys girl, myself...*g*) I do want Apolo to win, though, but I'd be happy if Joey won too. I'm impressed that they chose for their final dance the one that they did NOT get perfect scores on before.

I'm thinking they are going to give all 10's to all three couples.

I've enjoyed this show this year, and having Clay on it will be the icing on the cake!

  8. That was fun to look at all the promos! And on one it said that Enterainment Weekly listed him as one of the top 12 Entertainers of the Year...

Never heard THAT before! EW usually skewers him...no love lost in the past.

That's OLD...as in 2003 old. Clay and Ruben jointly were selected as the number 2 entertainers of the year by EW. (Lord of the Rings was number 1). I still love that picture shoot, with him in the white tux.

Ok...so today Ms. Couchie and I resume our walking together, dang it! And we're gonna sweat, too! It's a warm day here (for this area, that is...heh)...and I ain't takin' it slow, so get ready, woman! ;)

    Ooooo, muski likes it fast!

Love seeing all those ads for the concert tour in one place. That's very cool!

Clay's gonna be on TV soooooooon! EEEEEEEEE!

  9. I should have looked around for a better group, but between the internet and a good doctor, I've learned a ton...

    *puts on librarian hat*

The internet can be fantastic for information about diseases....but it can also be first class crap too. Make sure that if you do research on the internet that you read things very critically about diseases. When was the page last updated? Who wrote the article -- an actual MD? Is the web page actually an advertisement in disguise? And so on....

...therefore, I suggest your local library. They may have more current online databases, with articles written by respected professionals, available for laymen -- some available at your home computer. (You would probably need to enter your library card number to access. You all have library cards, right? *g*) Please don't ask your librarian to give you medical advice, however!!!

As for the general topic at hand...I feel for each and every one of you who has to take care of an ailing parent. I live 3 hours away from my mom, so I'm the designated "come home once or twice a month to give my brother a break" person.

  10. play, I figured you were joking, but you never know when the two fans of Corey Clark might show up. *g*

    In other news...

Go here for information and a poll regarding the FCA Summer Chat series! I believe the post has all the information about the chat, and the poll is at the top of the page with 4 suggested dates. If anyone has any other suggested topics, please post them in that thread. Thanx.

  11. Greetings!

The admins here at FCA have been discussing having a chat. Miss couchie posted this on the main thread on May 17:

Ok Peeps... your admins have been thinking and we think it's time for a chat. It's been awhile. What the sketchy plan is at the present time is to take a variety of white hot topics - and go at it for 20 or so strong minutes. If it's going well we'll add another 10 minutes to it. In other words play it all by ear up to 2 hours or so. LdyJ is in charge of the bell.

We'll know the topics in advance so if you want to work out any thoughts in advance (for me, I'm a fast typist so only my theory on the ATDW PR would I whip out in advance). If things go long we'll have two chats. I like that we can discuss practically anything and this white hot topic chat will be no exception to that rule. These topics are not set in stone. If you have a topic idea please post. I'll let LdyJ work with ya'll to figure out the best time to do this.

    Prospective Topics....

    1. ATDW - PR

    2. The RCA Boogiemen - Clive and Roger

    3. Dealing with the gnats - disengagement?

    4. Clay's sexuality - why so fascinating

    5. The Tour - what do we know and what do we want

    6. The Next Album What? When? Where? Why? and How?

    7. Clay's Musical Direction - uh, what is it exactly

    8. your fandom - how has it evolved

Another topic that was suggested later was Clay's involvement in AI at this point in his career.

I have included a poll at the top of this thread, with 4 suggestions for dates. The chats will begin at 9:00 EDT, and last for approximately 2 hours each.

The idea is this: A schedule will be set for the topics at each night's chat (between 3-4 topics during the two hour period). We'll chat for approximately 20 minutes on each topic (with 30 minutes being the max), and then move on to the next. I have been given the responsibility to "watch the clock" and keep people moving. Dwelling on each topic is not the goal, however; expressing our ideas IS.

Please vote in the poll by Friday, May 25 at 9:00 p.m. EDT; once the dates are picked, the mods can set the topic schedule and and publicize these chats. Also, if you have any other suggested topics, post them in this thread by May 25 at 9:00 p.m. EDT.

Any questions? Please PM one of the admins -- couch tomato, ansamcw or me.

  12. I see what ya'll are saying about the Clothes on our Back auction -- but would ANYBODY really bid for a Corey Clark CD? He couldn't sell them on the STREET! OK, so maybe someone would have pity for the charity, but still.... There are still items there that haven't gotten a single bid.

BTW, can anyone identify Clay's shirt, where he wore it? I'm wracking my brain, and nothing is clicking. Pictures would be helpful. *g*

    CLAY ON TEEVEE TONIGHT!!!!!!

  13. *knock knock, is this thing on?*

Man why are the fans bidding that shirt up so high, right off the bat? There is still 25 more days left to go. :cryingwlaughter: I wish when I worked for an auction company we had Claymates bidding on our items. HaHaHa I wouldn't mind having something of Kim's, and Josh Gracin's autographed cd.

Crazy bidding for Clay's shirt, and practically nothing else for the rest of them. I looked at KLo's stuff too, it would be cool to have something of hers, IMO.

I can't wait to see what Clay does on DWTS. I just hope it lasts longer than 30 seconds. *g* If he shows up in a gown, I will laugh and think he has a great sense of humor and can laugh at himself. It would be equivalent to a SNL skit, to me.
I'm so looking forward to this as well. I'm not expecting a ball gown (but if he did do that, I'd be on the floor LOL). My idea: I think he'll portray all three DWTS judges, judging Jimmy and Guelliermo. Maybe even throw in a fourth judge, and he could do his Simon impersonation, and then they could say, "wrong show!"

    Any other ideas?

  14. They do skits on DWTS??? I have never, ever seen this show so I have no clue, but they do skits on it???

I just answered this to someone else via email. The "competition" portion of the show is tonight, and then tomorrow night is the results show. Just as AI has to pad their results show to fill an hour, so does DWTS. This year, they started with something called "Dancing with Jimmy," usually Kimmel and his pal Guillermo (G frequently dressed in a ball gown) demonstrating a dance, although in later episodes that hasn't always been the case. So yes, they do skits on DWTS.

Actually, I can see this happening, if it is true. Clay will, IMO, once again show that he has a sense of humor. And on a show that gets pretty darn good ratings (even if it is up against AI tomorrow evening). This season has been one of the highest rated ever, I believe.

And does this mean we will have to read more people bitching about Clay making non-singing appearances which is a clear signal he doesn't take his music seriously?

My guess would be "yes." But I don't care, because if it is true, it will be Clay on my TEEVEE!!!!!!!
