  1. Sending good vibes your way today, ldyj! Just think of the CUTE doctor as your drift off to sleep..... :F_05BL17blowkiss:

I don't watch TV very much but one show I try to catch (usually online) is Big Bang Theory. This guy above (sigh!) would fit right in. KAndre and I were talking this weekend (before you and kf arrived) about how we watch that show and get what the guys are saying.

Oh YES! Love that show, although I always forget when it's on. Yep, I can see that wedding singer guy fitting right in. :D

And, no, I don't really consider "Clayton the wedding singer" traditionally handsome, but I believe the word adorable, while grinning like a loon, was what I kept saying last night! :flirtysmile3: Of course, I don't really consider Clay today to be traditionally handsome, but I believe the word gorgeous, while grinning like a loon, has been uttered a time or two. Often times shortened to GAH! when the gorgeous is just too much. :flirtysmile3:

Sorry about your car troubles yesterday, aikim, but glad 'Clay' was able to save the day! ;) Oh - and I have a VUE, too - love it! Hope they can fix it quickly & without it costing you and arm & leg.

    :woohoo: for luckiest son!

My gripe for the day? People who send emails in the midddle of the freaking night to notify you of revised meeting times for the next day! HELLO?! Just because they were up checking work emails at 12:43 AM doesn't mean I was! And since my normal time to come in is 9:00 AM, I missed the meeting I was supposed to attend at 1:00 PM that was rescheduled for 8:00 AM.... :grrrr:

    EAT: :Iluvclaysbutt: Just because!

  2. Got this in an email - at work - this morning...

This almost put a lump in my throat...

I seldom pass along inspirational stuff, but this one got to me. I believe, in these difficult and mean-spirited times in which we live, there needs to be a message of hope. We can all use a single image that speaks to us of love, harmony, peace, and joy. An image that suggests the universality of us all. I have been sent that image, and I want to share it with you. All I ask is that you take a moment to reflect on it.....

    Click to be inspired!

  3. From GoUpstate.com of Spartanburg, SC:

Local Aiken fans turn passion into good works

    By Alice Lang

    Published: Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 12:20 p.m.

Members of an Upstate fan club for American Idol finalist Clay Aiken have taken their passion for music and turned it into a mission for helping children who have disabilities.

This group of volunteers from Spartanburg, Greenville and Anderson counties was instrumental in founding the local YMCA Camp of Inclusion, also known as Camp IMPACT, which gives children with disabilities the opportunity to go to summer camp with typical children.

"We had followed Clay Aiken through American Idol. Then we learned about the Bubel/Aiken Foundation. We discovered the Camps of Inclusion through getting to know the foundation. It was Clay's dream to see inclusion spread across the U.S. and we've tapped into his dream," said volunteer Rita Smith.

In February 2006, Smith, an orthodontic assistant, and Sandra Graham, a local realtor, approached Rick Callebs, the CEO of the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg, and asked him about starting a Camp of Inclusion.

"He received it immediately with open arms and said, 'We can do it this summer!' We were stunned," said Smith.

The first year they had 9 children, the second year 16, and this year they have 18 children with disabilities who have participated.

"This year the Bubel/Aiken Foundation provided scholarships for camp fees and they helped us to hire more staff and to organize curriculum. They came and gave us an all day training session for staff," said Smith.

Sandra Graham, known to the children as "Graham cracker," has been thrilled by the success and growth of the camp.

"As an empty-nester, it allows me to be involved with children. They're really special. The typical children are very receptive. We see children with disabilities doing things they didn't know they could do. They bloom at the camp," said Graham.

"We're finding that children with disabilities who might have been withdrawn, over the time they're here, they start opening up," added Smith.

YMCA staff members appreciate the support of these volunteers.

"We have a great base of volunteers who take time off from work to help us out. The Bubel/Aiken Foundation gave us $10,000 this year. It helps us with supplies and provides the program free for children with disabilities," said Cindy Grassi, Association Child Care Director.

Parents see the benefits for their children.

"My two year old son C.J., who has a mild case of autism, doesn't have a lot of chances to interact with kids his own age. New experiences seem to bring out more language for him. I think what they're doing is really great," said Cindy Peck of Moore.

"This is also a way for parents with children with disabilities to have a break and give them some family time," said Grassi.

On the last Thursday of the camp, Jerry Aiken, CEO of the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, and his wife Diane, came to visit the Middle Tyger YMCA. Jerry Aiken is the uncle of Clay Aiken.

"The ultimate goal of these camps and the foundation is to prepare children with disabilities so they can be included in all aspects of life to the greatest degree possible," said Aiken.

Aiken was impressed by the facilities and the activities of the camp. He also was grateful for the support of the volunteers.

"You volunteers are the backbone of the Bubel/Aiken Foundation. Without you, our foundation would not exist," he emphasized.

On October 18th, the Foundation will hold a "Champions of Change Gala" fundraiser in Raleigh, NC to support the 28 Camps of Inclusion across the U.S.

"We will recognize individuals, groups and companies that are making a difference in inclusion," said Aiken.

  5. Thank you annabear for Dr. Clay. I wish my doctor looked like him....

You're welcome. :) With some good pain meds, he could! :cryingwlaughter:

I'm having too much fun tonight! Have to make some door prizes for a Clay friends get together tomorrow night - photo coasters. I only have to make 4 and I've already decided to print 2 pics for each, so that they can slip out the sleeve and flip to another pic, but trying to narrow down all of the BEAUTIFUL pics of this man??? IMPOSSIBLE!!! I see a lot of Perma's and Kareneh's and Tasapio's and Scrpkym's in my folders.....

  6. My mom & I were planning on going, but I don't think we're going to make it. :( Between unexpected medical expenses, trying to pay down the credit cards (egads!!) and saving to move in Nov., it's not looking likely. Unless I win the lottery! But that means I have to play the lottery....

I'll still be checking in here in case anything changes. :) Good luck to all on July 28!

  7. Anything remotely related to "fiber crafts" will be welcomed enthusiastically. See the details at the bottom of this poster we had last year... good times!

Thanks in advance to all those who can help, either by contributing items or supporting the sale!!! :F_05BL17blowkiss:

Okay, I am confused...is/was that for last summer or is it current? Although since I don't live in Houston and I don't knit, I guess it lets me out anyway.

    Kim

That's the flyer from last year's sale, but there's going to be another sale this year. And I don't live in Houston. And I'm not sure I should be calling what I've been doing "knitting"! :hysterical: But I will be making some bears out of mohair, alpaca, wool, etc. :)

  8. I can almost guarantee...since I'm going to be pretty much off a computer beginning tomorrow afternoon until at least Thursday morning, due to my surgery, that he'll do his UNICEF blog during that time frame.

Ya'll can thank me later. *g*

Sending :hugs-1: and :praying: your way, ldyj, for a successful surgery!

Also.... hopes that a CUTE intern just might stop by and give you a check up.... :F_05BL17blowkiss:

  9. I've been having issues with one set of my neighbors as well. My biggest comlaint is with music and television BLASTING at all hours, so loud that I can hear it (and feel it) over my own, even with the heat or ac running, the dishwasher and/ or washer/dryer going. I can't even open my windows because the noise is even worse, especially when they're partying out on the balcony, which is often. They are completely oblivious to anyone but themselves.

More recently, one of their cars now has something wrong with the sun roof so they decided to start parking in the carports - both of their cars. Granted, most of the spots in the section across from our building are empty, but it is an option that you're supposed to pay for. I do and do not appreciate others taking advantage of it for free. Several times in the past few months when I've run home at lunch, I've found them parked in MY ASSIGNED space! I went to the management and a few days later they moved one car. I can only hope that they're now being charged to keep parking the other one over there. Their friends even park in the carports!

So, being nice and confronting in person has done no good. Going to the management has done no good. Even getting the police involved multiple times (when music/partying goes into the middle of the night) has done no good. I feel like my only option is to move when my lease is up to get away from these people. I've been a good tenant for 5 years and that evidently means zilch.

IMO, it all comes down to respect and common courtesy - two things that too many people seem to have forgotten in this day & age.

  12. This thread travels so fast sometime and so with working full time and going to school two nights a week makes it really easy to get behind. And also, right now I’m sitting on this term paper I have to do which has to be six pages on a subject having to do with “Technology.” Ok, well that narrows it down…

    Any great ideas out there?

iPods/MP3/digital music technology? Good luck, whatever you decide! :F_05BL17blowkiss:

Wow - only a page to catch up on since my computer went wonky last night! I've been working all day on a couple of special projects (stuffed animals) for friends. Tired & getting ready to head to bed momentarily.

Hee! "Miss Congeneality" is on TV and I just heard something about a "frontal assault".... killer_rabbit.gif
