  1. Here's some examples of the two types of cameras I mentioned. Digital Disposable Camera Disposable Zoom I would think of the two, the zoom one would be the most useful. Right now we don't know what will be allowed (during JNT not even disposables were allowed), so I wouldn't sink a lot of money into disposables yet. Last year we spotted the trends after the first couple of concerts.
  2. ShelleyC Everyone's a famewhore. Eventually someone will brag about it or put it in a blog and it will be discovered. What's with the word vitriol? Up until a week ago I've hardly ever heard it and now everyone's using it. Was it the word of the day and I missed out?
  3. I discovered audio books a few years ago. They've been a lifesaver, since I have so much car travel in my job. I just finished Rosie Dunne. It was great to do it in audio because the actress reading was really good at the Irish accents, which added a dimension to this Irish book. My favorite audio book is, of course, LTS. I listened to it one night when I was driving home from a meeting on a winding dark road and having some car trouble. I think it saved me from going crazy. It's very intimate to have Clay in your dark car with you telling you his life stories.
  4. EEEEEEEEEEEEE, we just hit 200 members! That's a mighty big party.
  5. I'm not a pin designer (don't hit me), but I wanted to pop in for a minute. Some of the pins have photos on them (or the outline of photos). Technically, you need to contact the photographer to ask permission to use that. I was asked and was more than happy to say yes. Just something to think about as you work on your pin designs, which are fabulous, BTW.
  6. diamondjake2001 I work for the equivalent of a non-profit that survives on grants and corporate donations. Part of what we do is give out grants. One key thing I have pushed since day 1 is that we can't simply give out grants. You are not going to get government or corporate grants to simply redistribute money. They are looking to buy into something. They want value added. You need to support the grants you give out and gather success stories to build the status of your organization. You need to put on your own programs. My organizations puts on conferences and summits to build vision, consensus and action plans to create change in our particular area. These are the things corporations and government grant organization are looking for. I've got lots more thoughts, but I need to get some real life stuff done. It's nice to have a place to talk about the good things that have happened. The BAF (in my professional opinion) has done a lot in a short period of time. What makes it even harder is that they have been under the constant microscope of the fans and had the double edged sword of a celebrity spokesperson (who in my personal opinion is hawt!).
  7. You know, honestly I don't know that degrees matter all that much. The key is to work hard and know your goals. I'm currently working in a non-profit situation in pretty much what I've wanted to do, but I took a nice winding path to get here. I'm a big believer in everything happening for a reason.
  8. Reports are coming in that many people are heading over to the BAF to donate as a show of support. For those who may wish to, here are some handy links: Donate Online Buy some BAF stuff Sometimes it makes people feel less helpless when they do something.
  9. Not only will the wait be worth it personally, but I think taking the time to put together something Clay's proud of will benefit him professionally. We all know how important this album will be for the critics in terms of giving him credibility as an artist.
  10. You might want to check on the full photo policy. Sometimes NO CAMERAS means disposables are allowed, sometimes they are not. For a review of what your pictures with a regular disposable (800 speed with flash) will take, look at my Portland Pics. Those were taken from the first row and were a waste of time and money. Mostly it was to keep me from going into withdrawl at not being able to take photos. Jerome stood in front of me the whole concert and it amused me to be so avidly taking crappy pictures in front of him. (the one good Solitaire pic I posted was from when he disappeared backstage and I whipped out my camera). Good disposable cameras? An oxymoron. If you do go with disposable, make sure you get something that has a zoom and is digital (so you can wipe out pictures you don't want). ISO 800 is a must. Rather than a disposable, you might want to consider bringing in a small digital with a memory card you don't mind losing (64 and 128 cards are pretty cheap these days - not much more than a disposable camera). That is if you have nerves of steel and don't mind spending quality time with security staff. (insert joke at my expense here)
  11. craigslist is great! Thanks for the tip. I've found some interesting classifieds looking for avid amateur photographers. Whoopee!
  12. Oh crap. At one point in time I was Tsathy's publicist. I was hoping I could hide here. Sigh. I guess there's no hiding from Tsathy.
  13. whips out camera and takes group photo of the FCA gang.... This thread is for the discussion of photography - specifically concert photography. I'm sure there will be photos posted in here with questions or as examples, but this isn't designed to be a "Photo Clack" thread right now. I don't claim to be the expert on photography, but I'm learning quickly and I know we have plenty of people in the fandom with photography know how both in concert and general photography. So, feel free to post questions! It would be great if people attending the first concert could post information about the conditions. Specifically: - security (can we bring in cameras? were there people taking pictures? did they get hauled out?) - lighting - how brightly is Clay lit? does the lighting change color? is there uplighting? were you able to shoot at ISO 400? 200? - stage set up - movement - unusual events I know lots of this will be covered in regular recaps, but it would be great to get some info from a photographic perspective (so we can anticipate events and adjust for them). I'm excited about the chance to openly discuss these issues in one place.
  14. puts on feather boa and flip flops of doom oh, and crawls out from underneath the rock of "no internet" (yikes!) Hello one and all. I'm SkateJoy - same as I've been everywhere (I'm not exactly an international woman of mystery). My home board is Best of Clay. I was originally part of the People's Republic of Clay on TWoP (waves to Shack) and upon eviction went to the Clackhouse. I'm SkateJoy because (prior to my life going through upheaval last year) I was an avid skater. And it brought me joy. Gag barf. I love Clay from "take" and have followed his career since then. I've been to too many concerts to count and have been inspired to do many things both crazy (camping out for Clay) and exciting (travel, meet new people, take up photography). I've been trying to move that emphasis from crazy to exciting and put things back in balance in my life lately. I've also been trying to refind the joy of the fandom. I'm hoping that the summer concerts will help kickstart that. I've been enjoying reading his blog, because it reads like an old friend's. In the fandom I guess I kind of focus on photography (shh, don't tell anyone) and tickets. Yes, I'm planning on exploring both on this board. So, thanks to couchtomato and ansa for asking me to be a mod. I question their sanity, but I thank them. I think this will be a fun ride.
