  1. Busy day for everybody, huh? Merrieeee, I just nominated a quote of yours for the CH thread title, but I know it won't win, so maybe folks here will like it:
  2. Shortyjill, yikes! I hope there is a long hot bath in your future. Are you assigned to a specific part of the store,or will they be covering the whole store in the training? Me too. Yummy. I like the way he's the focus of the frame. He's not one to be invisible unless he wants to be.
  3. He is so talented, so dedicated to the sport. His jumps are amazing but he's also such a strong dancer whose routines always connect with me. I always have loved skaters like Paul Wylie and the Brians. I'm thrilled Daisuke has such a strong following over here. Beatles - wow! Can't wait to see that!
  4. Luckiest, I am so jealous. Some big names are missing, yes, but I've been following Takahashi since I lived in Japan and he was still a teen. I love the way he has developed as a mature skater. Also love White and Davis. They are so unique in their style. i'm glad you've got access and I'm looking forward to the reports. The US coverage for skating these days is so limited. Boo!
  5. I'm sure if I had gone I would have been disappointed about there being less music. There are expressions of disappointment, and then there are people who, it seems to me, react in a way that is way out of proportion. I've done that myself, once. There are fans who, it seems to me, make a habit of getting furious at Clay about his choices, and saying things that to me are horribly rude and unkind. I have no patience or sympathy for that. None of those folks post here. I can only imagine what it's like for an outsider to the fandom to hear people talk like that about a person and an organization that are deeply important to him. I have no doubt Jerry got an earful, and apparently had had it. Since I had had it a very long time ago, I can't say that I blame him and I feel certain he was not saying that all who contribute and are also fans are in the wrong. Only those who make it all about them and their relationship with Clay, and what they feel he owes to them.
  6. I'm here. At RDU. Got bumped yesterday heading to Santa Fe to visit a friend. Didn't even realize it was the same weekend as the gala. If I'd known I could get a ride and a free ticket, I wouldn't have done it, but them's the breaks. I already put my friend off once - at Christmas time to see Clay instead. Ah well. Am loving the photos and still pretty appalled at how some fans have made so much of so little. Luckiest, don't let them get to to you. Thank you Fear and ldyj for all the reports and ldyj for the gorgeous photos!
  7. While I'm remembering, luckiest, I have trouble getting a new line too. If I toggle the editing mode - top left icon - that works. I can only get a new line on the source code side. By the way, I'm running 8 now too--wonder if that's why. Yikes, what a change, and so buggy. Did a bunch of fixes and end-arounds to get the OS working the way I wanted it to. But I still have to restart once a day because the touch screen quits working. Computer was cheap tho - lol. What I came to post: I've seen this kind of thing happen where I live, which is a close enough community to have a powerful grapevine and the rumors fly. People have completely distorted everything about the blog in favor of a new reality that they have created, which they hate, and are pissed about - and ironically, it's all a creation of certain message board fans on certain message boards. It's like they invited (that was supposed to be invented, but I think I'll keep it) a nightmare and decided to live in it. And try to get others to join them. It's the Nightmare car on the Clay train! No thanks!
  8. Gregory Porter on the Tonight Show tonight! [media=]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aup21tPoZXE My high school friend Chip had an extended solo too. Squeee, I feel like a proud mama. I saw a short clip I wish I had bookmarked of Porter bringing Chip into a room back stage and showing him the piano - it wasn't that long ago, earlier this year. Chip was stunned speechless. Up until then he'd been playing a keyboard, because that's all they could afford to transport. At that time, Porter also named Chip his musical director. Not that I'm prejudiced but I think it was a smart move, because Porter can get lost in his vocalizing. Clay topic - heh - I snark, I snark, I know we don't need a Clay topic here, but honestly I hesitated to post this for a minute since there's been so much worrying out and about. Wouldn't want anyone to think I'm cheating on Clay (although I do it all the time--I'm totally back into Kris Allen's second CD at the moment). The spotlight comes and the spotlight goes. Porter and co. will be lucky if they can ride this to some modest acclaim through the Grammy's this year and hopefully finally win one, but by next year, someone else will be the next big thing and they'll be setting back down into something more "normal." They're probably exhausted and looking forward to a break. It's got to be especially tiring flying back and forth from the U.S. for short runs of gigs in Europe and Japan, interspersed with dates here.
  9. It has been for sale for years. At some point you just have to throw up your hands and move on. Even now, there just are not that many developments around here with homes that expensive, especially some of those others going for multiple millions, sheesh! The supply is exceeding the demand, and this particular gated community is having its privacy and rural charm encroached upon due to having its road become a popular shortcut, and development skyrocketing everywhere from there to the new highway. Don't know if that's the reason, but there are many homes for sale there now, and I think when Clay started listing, maybe one? other. On the other hand, there's really REALLY easy access to Raleigh now. But it's in Chatham County. Clay's probably not alone in his school district issues. Not that a lot of folks rich enough to own one of those houses would seek out Wake or Durham county schools either. But there are two other pretty fancy communities on golf courses very close to there that might more readily lure retirees. Closer to access to a big recreational lake, and much more private.
  10. Some things are posted as fact and begin to be accepted as such. For instance, that evil Clive and RCA wouldn't let Clay be a rock star like he wanted to be.
  11. I guess what bugs me is that the worry can be infectious. Things get magnified and exaggerated and people who weren't worried decide that they ought to worry too. If I were posting somewhere else, I'd say it's all good peeps. Put on some Clay Aiken music or watch a performance DVD and relax!
  12. Dang! Haha. An old friend from high school years is his pianist and music director so I discovered Gregory through Chip's Facebook page just as GP was taking off in europe and then Japan and then the US. Although he has been nominated for grammies before so not a total unknown. Just another jazz group playing a NY club regularly and a few gigs around, then, WOW, take off. And so deservedly so. They've been on the road non-stop almost. New album just came out--got it today. Haven't listened yet, but I love the last one. First one is good, but second is the bomb. Love the person too - humble. Preacher's kid (his mom). Ooo - i like the ideas. Thanks! The banner doesn't have to be an exact size. Whatever you think looks good. I think we found that it wasn't possible to center it. I need to get on my computer to find out more. I'm on an iPad too. I learned that the people who make this type of board delberately disabled the editor for iPad! Too buggy. They'll work on it and put it back on their next major revamping of everything. Could be years. Wonder if there is something we could add from another source. We do have an upgrade that we haven't executed. Which is a bit over my head. Have no idea if it would help, but prolly not. But I'm having issues with the editor on my laptop too - and other little minor bugs.
  13. Just nominated this for a new thread title. And that reminds me, current banner needs replacing. Long and narrow works best; we made an exception for this photo. Anybody? Couchie, I like the same kind of voices. On the Wings of Love has always been one of my Clay favorites. Have you heard Gregory Porter? I keep meaning to post some links. If you haven't heard of him, I will do it, because wow.
  14. Hee - I never win the lottery for the same reason. It is much appreciated. But if it gets to be too much, please take a break! You did like it, or at least it showed up for me... You are right, it does show up, but when I click the button I get an error message saying there was an error registering my "reputation vote." I'll check into that one of these days..... Lovely, lovely post ldyj!!!
  15. Tijala, woohoo! Very long time no see. This is a good place to hang out when the worries pile up outside.
  16. Luckiest, give crimsonice my best bon wishes. It's a gutsy thing for her to do; I'm proud of her. Spreading her wings in a big way!
  17. Jamar! BWAH! I tried to "like" your post but it wouldn't let me. Stick around. Call me a bad fan or whatever, but I never venture to places where you need wading boots anymore when it is like this. I did my time, tried too hard for too long. If there's any news, someone will bring it here. We're always here for these times. Meanwhile, as ldyj said so well, we've been here and done that so many times before. Playbiller made a fantastic post at the CH. I think I'll bring my favorite part over.
  18. Happiest of birthdays, ldyjocelyn!! Have lots of cake: And lots of fun:
