  1. R.I.P. TED KENNEDY

    kennedycandlelight.jpg

Candlelight Vigil in Dupont Circle in DC (where chachadotter#4 is)

Cha Cha, who took the picture, and when was the vigil? I should add it to the new Carolina On My Mind blog about Teddy Kennedy, a driving force for the rights of many who could not speak for themselves like the disabled. I kept thinking of Clay when putting the blog together, and I included gerwhisp's Measure of a Man montage.

Have a great week, all! :BlowKiss:

    Caro :listen:

Caro - you can credit "xiann" and just say "tweeted by xiann from Dupont Circle" - I am pretty sure she took it with her iphone about 7:30 pm this evening. :thankyou:

"she" meaning my daughter xiann. :)

  2. Thanks everyone for the BIRTHDAY WISHES!!! :thankyou:

I had a great day, starting with bowling with my sister and nephies, then on to Julie & Julia,

Then a well-deserved nap (ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz) LOL and then mrchach arrived with Chinese takeout. :)

I've had a really busy summer... so much so I just realized yesterday I hadn't posted here for almost a month!!

I spent 5 days in CT with my dear friend Joy, during which we went to see Harry Potter, PAUL McCaRTNEY @ CitiField, and a local production of Pippin.

I also saw a local production of Seussical here in town!

Then when I got home, I had some friends come and we went to see SIR PAUL again @ FedEx Field in DC. Magical both!!

Click on "More From..." to see them all.

Last weekend mrchach and I went to WV to visit chachadotter#1 and did some cool stuff.

Such as going down into a coal mine.... it's really COLD in there folks! And seeing the famous New River Bridge.

    (It's on the WV Quarter y'all!) :)

Oh yeah!!! I nearly forgot!!! I also went to see the American Idol Concert in DC last Tuesday!

    - click on "More from.." there are eight. :)

Tomorrow I'm going to dinner with the other three chachadotters (#2, #3, & #4) and their SO's (2 spouses, 1 BF) and then.........

when my "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" arrives, I'm going to start learning how to cook, Julia Child Style!!

    :hello: to all

  3. Just skimming over the last few posts...

We had a ton of people over yesterday, had a ton of food, and had a ton of fun!

On the caregiver homefront, I think I grew up being one. My father was older and divorced from my mother when I was 8, and we subsequently moved in with my maiden aunts, who were older still than my father. At 72, when he got cancer in his liver and a hospital bed was installed in the downstairs room, I became his nurse for the 3 months he lived after the operation. I was 15. My aunts became my guardians. The main one lived a long life and managed to see me through my wedding and birth of twins. She died at age 91 when the twins were 3 months old.

And that's it in a nutshell.

    Clay-related -- -- Where is that man???

Loved his blog post about the ejiit in NC...

In more positive news, I heard that DC is now recognising same-sex marriages.

Anyone think Clay will ever marry? :)

:hello: to luckiest, thanks for the links!

In the past week, I've listened to The Half Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows audio books. I sure it's accted my dreams! I wish I could remember them!

  4. Hi from the Morgan Meet!!

    Just a quick drive-by post....

I'm sitting here with another Clay Fan (from the club!) checking Clay's Blog and to see if anything is happening...

So... we just checked out Clay's My Space page and there's a donate button for the BAF that I've never seen before....

It says that he's raised TEN dollars and has recruited EIGHTY-NINE people....

    which sounds kinda sad!!!

Did we know about this??? I can't imagine it being very well-known if it only has 89 recruits and $10 collected.

I was thinking maybe some fans could go and check it out? And maybe spread the news?

    Maybe???

We just saw some great fireworks...

Hope everyone's having a great Independence DAY!!!

Oh yeah... My friend can read Chinese!!! :Iluvclaysbutt:

  5. About Clay concerts... (I've been to a few...) :cryingwlaughter:

What always gets me is I can't stop grinning and watching his every move, even if it's thru a camera,

and if it is thru a camera, I am usually holding my breath a lot, or just definitely trying to control the breathing!

And I can't stop thinking about what it must be like to HIM, seeing all these fans staring up at him with all the SEG's on their faces.

I think the quality of the performance goes up according to the positive feedback from the audience. Especially with Clay. :snoopy:

    PaulClay.gif Concerts in general,

I've been to a bunch, and Clay is at the top right next to Paul McCartney!

Who I am seeing in 3 weeks at CitiField in Flushing!! w00t!! :dancingpickle:

And then again in DC at FedEx Field!! d0uble w00t!!

    :04:

On the home front, I have been up to my elbows in vinyl this past few days, making a tonneau for the Morgan.

After a few setbacks and sewing machine malfunctions (the damn things hate me!) I've got blisters on mah fingers...

and I'm almost finished. One Over-the-door flap and about a dozen special-type grommets to go!!

This is what I wanted to do to the sewing machine yesterday! :breakpc2:

We are taking the newly-improved Morgan to our annual meet this year, it is almost totally back together!

(Those who were paying attention last summer may remember the drama involved with getting the parts back

from the paint shop last year and putting it back together in time, which didn't happen!)

Here's what it looks like, as of a few months ago... it now has doors and stuff! (and a tonneau!)

    HAPPY FOURTH EVERYBODY!

We'll be away at our Morgan Owners Gathering... :BlowKiss:

eta: forgot to say Welcome Newbies!!! dancing-welcome.gif

and... Happy Birthday to all I've missed!!

  6. I just want to see him doing anything I haven't seen before. ANY . THING.

    Missing him like crazy.

    Christmas book? Bring it on!

SKit on an awards show? Show me it, honey!

In ratty shorts at the airport? Right clickety-click!

    Singin' anywhere? I'm so there!

    DITTO DITTO DITTO!!!!!!

    OH and :loveclaysbutt:

Oh, I went to the Farmer's Market too! I got a surprising amount of stuff for about $15 total. I need to go back soon -- next time I'll remember to swing by an ATM first. Oh, and I saw this while driving out there. Haven't seen one in years (it's more familiar from the front):

    3644436241_48fa4f4042.jpg?v=0

We have one sitting in our backyard. It was our coach du jour for several years while the girls were growing up. Now it is in dire need of restoring, since one of the last times it was driven (by chachadotter#1) the door somehow fell off! (OK, bottom line is, ours is not as old nor in as good condition!)

  7. I don't think Susan Boyle is cut out for anything but a recording studio.

She obviously is not able to handle all the pressure of public appearances, and I somehow doubt that Simon will be bringing her over here if she is so unstable. I hope he does not.

    Happy birthday, Ansa!!!!!!

The Hamster Band would sing for you, but they are still hiding from Evil Catz.......

If you watch closely, Mr. Hamster will peek out and wish you the best!!!!

    cathunt.gif

I think that is a Paul Smith suit.......

This is just plain FREAKY!!!! :cryingwlaughter:

    happybirthday21gi.gif

    ansa!

when will couchie let you out of the basement? :)

Re: Susan Boyle - there must have been a reason she is 47, never married, and lived with her mother all those years. I bet "unstable" doesn't even begin to cover it!!

  8. I'm guessing Clay's book will be a family memoir ala the story by fellow North Carolinian David Sedaris: Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim. Only Clay's version will be titled Dress Your Family in Hoodies and Tutus.

I read the first pages offered in the "Look Inside" feature on Amazon for that book, it looks kind of entertaining! And I could have it on my Kindle in less than a minute!! Such is the power of instant gratification, such is the power I have to resist on a daily basis!

I have a question tho, bottle, on your suggestion for hte title of Clay's book. Explain the "tutus" part, please? :)

  9. I had to skip a few pages but I'm caught up tonight!! YAAY!!

I got really nostalgic this morning when I was experiencing :Tour4:

Why? You may well ask, because Clay's not on tour!!!

Well, I'm going to tell..... [tm cute guy in a nightgown]

My friend Joy called last night and said, do you want to go see Paul McCartney on July 18?

I didn't even know he was appearing anywhere, but I said YES!! And I'd also said I take care of buying the tickets since I have no job.

So this morning at 9:30 I logged into TicketBastard and proceeded to click on "More Info" - they were supposed to go onsale at 10 am.

Well - the ticket system for CitiField (in Flushing) has a unique feature. It has a minute countdown coupled with a message something like "a limited number of patrons are let into the site during heavy traffic times" and then it refreshes itself when the counter reaches zero and starts over.

    VERY NERVE WRACKING!

So I got my cell phone and land line phone and started dialing the box office. At about 10:27 I got thru on the land line. A nice young man called James informed me that the Fri & Sat nite performances were SOLD OUT!! But.... another show had been added for Tuesday! I made a quick call to Joy on the cell to make sure she could go on Tuesday, and proceeded to buy some pretty good seats for $140.

    IT'S PAUL McCARTNEY BABY!!!PaulClay.gif

in Clay-related topics.... I can't wait to hear something from him... a book would be nice!!

eta: I forgot to say to canfly that I use PSP (Jasc) Animation Shop. But you need a video viewer that takes screenshots, you use them to make the animations. HTH! :)

eata: treenuts: not sure if this will help or not... THE LEGEND OF WALDO

  10. eta: when I click on the spreadsheet link above I get a page not found message. :)

Thanks. I changed the link to a right click and save as--maybe it will work now?

Well, I guess my getting the spreadsheet wasn't meant to be!

I went back to your original post on pg 17, but it didn't work.

I tried the one on this page (pg 18) - no dice.

I tried the one on your original CH post - nada. ::insert Eeyore waaah, waaah here::

    Now what? :)

  11. TtPax - I loved your Irish Travel Story!!

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed the photos. :)

This is actually the third time I've visited Ireland, mrchach has relatives there (being half Irish).

Has anyone ever heard of a book called "Round Ireland With a Fridge"? by Tony Hawks?

TtPax - the scene you described sounds like a scene from that book!

Short synopsis: Tony gets drunk and a friend bets him he can't hitchhike around Ireland in 30 days with a fridge. The results are very amusing!

There's a scene in which he ends up in Lisdoonvarna's Matchmaking Festival and has to sing a song for the 'competition'. The fridge ends up being an asset and deciding factor. :cryingwlaughter:

We had a few such times, one of the best being when we spent the night in Sligo and found a pub where traditional Irish Musicians were meeting for a jam. Many wee pints o' Guinness were downed that night!

In Ireland every other person is your new best friend!

eta: when I click on the spreadsheet link above I get a page not found message. :)

  12. They always have a little note at Photobucket saying "Visiting our sponsors won't interupt your upload"....

Well, something I clicked did! The upload got aborted halfway thru.

And it took me awhile to figure out which ones were missed.

Since they upload "in no particular order."

So.... if you clicked the link early on, you may have missed a few. :)

Here's the link again: IRELAND 2009

kf - I agree that the Tonys were pretty much of a yawn! But NPH did a great job and I loved his closing number. didn't know he could sing! ('sing' not 'sang' however!)

? I hear he is injured - not a fan but I hope he recovers OK!
  13. Hello All!!! I'm Back!!! Didja Miss me!!?????? :cryingwlaughter:

I've tried on numerous times to start on page one and read this thread. And have been interupted, have only made it to page two.

Then I didn't post since I didn't catch up, then I got farther and farther behind....

    Well, you know the story!!

Not much going on in the Clay world huh?

Dud you hear about the fortune cookie? That was cool!

I watched the tony awards last night thinking there might be a sighting, but I fell asleep...

    There wasn't, was there??

So, Ireland was great!!!! Been really busy since getting back. I took 1700 pictures I am still sorting out!!

Here are some of the best...

  14. HELLO from Ireland!

Just wanted to pitch in my 2 cents... (I had to skip a bunch of pages but I saw the Linda Ronstadt mention)

LOVE her standards, saw her concert a few years back when she did those on tour.

Having a great time in Ireland, walked a bunch thru a forest and saw an awesome waterfall today. I have pictures but won't be able to post till later. :)

I am able (thru the magic of international roaming) to send photos from my phone.

Here's where we were the first day - The Cliff of Moher on the West Coast, Co Clare.

    http://twitpic.com/5bem7

And on the way north we stopped at this scenic overlook for Glancar Lake above Sligo.

    http://twitpic.com/5fo8v

At our cousin's in No Ireland... the sun was out today - first day since we've been here!

    TTFN! Going to dinner soon!

  15. I so agree with you about people talking when he was singing, didn't they know what privilige they had to listen to Clay singing. People don't realize how lucky they are.

Well, remember that this was a cocktail party -- where the mingling and the talking is just as important as the entertainment (probably moreso) to some people. I am also sure that there were some people at that party who could have cared less that Clay Aiken sang, and would have rather heard, oh say, Donny Osmond sing there.

I, however, was glued to every syllable he sang via this clack. I've never been a huge UM fan, but that version was sublime!

That was a great video! And it wasn't taken by "that other guy" since he's in the video!

Anybody know the song written by that other guy Tony that David was about to introduce at the end of the video? I'm really curious!

OT: I am off to Ireland for vacation! It's going to be a fun 11 days, I'll return with tons of photos! I might be able to post from there (prob not pictures tho) otherwise, see ya on the flip side! So far the 10 days forecast has only one non-rainy day in it, and that one is saying mostly cloudy! :cryingwlaughter:

    :hello:

  16. {{{{{beryl}}}}} - thank you so much for sharing your story. I see a few similarities in your story which parallel my own life. Mother abadoned us when I was 8, moved with bro&sis to relatives with father, bro&sis were very mean to me and I spent a lot of time on the farm all alone, feeling neglected. The relatives weren't terribly mean to me but favored my siblings and made me work (when they could) but I was a rebel. Later years would leave me dealing with all the scars and circumstances from being a rebel. My father died when I was 15 giving me more feelings of abandonment. I lucked out and found a good man and have some lovely kids (who are coming over soon!) My sister has admitted she was mean to me, my brother has mellowed a bit but being the oldest still feels entitled to respect he doesn't deserve. He's a butthead. (to put it mildly!) :cryingwlaughter:

LOVE THE CLACK FROM LAST NIGHT!

:thankyou:Scarlett, and Yollie, and everyone else for the red updates last night.

    All were greatly appreciated!
