  1. Somewhere in the house I have a really bad quality videotape of the original Hitchhiker's TV series, from a PBS showing, I think. It might even be on Betamax, if I copied it back in the 80's. Don't know if it would be worth it to transfer to digital, but I'll post if anyone is interested.

    I'm interested too. :lilredani:

Me too...because I know where my towel is. *g*

Yes, you must always have your towel..... :D

I am interested in that too.... somewhere I believe I have a bad VHS tape version of it too from PBS!! Was that in the 80's?? :) We didn't get very good TV reception back then!

FWIW, the BBC version is also available from Amazon.

Also, I have some audio versions of the radio show I can share if anyone is interested! PM me, and I'll send you a link. :)

Totally OFF topic, but just want to get it out of my system - I finally finished my 3rd quarter finals with 2 hours & 7 minutes to spare!
    :nana: :14:

    CONGRATS ANNA!!!

  2. Gosh, I would have to dig the book out again to answer that question! He worked on a few different tv shows, but I think there was only one HHGTTG, although I am not certain. :) Could I get back to you on that one? :D

While we're doing quotes tho, I have one I want to share. It's not a famous one and not one you would be likely to recognise unless you are a Neil Gaiman fan! It made me laugh out loud when I read it!!

I finished reading "Good Omens" a couple of weeks ago, written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. (I've never read any of Terry Pratchett's stuff before but after this I might give it a try.)

Here's the quote, but first I should explain the context. Many unusual things were happening on the day the world was supposed to end. Two of the characters were talking to the guard at the gate of an Army base in England, trying to gain entry, when a group of kids went whizzing thru the gate on bicycles, without stopping.

"Hey," he [the guard] said, but much more weakly this time, "did any of them kids have some space alien with a face like a friendly turd in a bike basket?"

And here's a movie quote I've always liked. I love ones that make me chuckle!

Dr Jones Sr. stuck his head out of the hatch of the fast-moving tank and shouted to his son, "You call this archeology?" (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)

    Then there's always this one...

"Where we're going, we don't need roads." (Professor Brown in Back to the Future)

    Thanks Scarlett! Fun game!

  3. And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change, a girl sitting on her own in a small café in Rickmansworth suddenly realized what it was that had been going wrong all this time, and she finally knew how the world could be made a good and happy place. This time it was right, it would work, and no one would have to get nailed to anything.

Sadly, however, before she could get to a phone to tell anyone about it, the Earth was unexpectedly demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass, and so the idea was lost, seemingly forever.

    This is her story.

I never saw the movie, but I did read all the books--A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Yeah, that's a great one! Wasn't that from "Mostly Harmless?"

I love Douglas Adams, I was so sorry when he died so young. Did you know that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy started out as a TV show and then morphed into a book? He was so bad about deadlines and getting it written on time to be broadcast every week, that sometimes he would be writing it as the players were performing it. I read this in a really cool book by Neil Gaiman (another of my favorite authors) in a book about Douglas Adams called "Don't Panic."

    Stuff on the internet.
Some people have reported things that were, in fact, true but got all kinds of shit when they reported it--being called liars and worse.
Other people just make up shit.
    So....I believe news I like and don't believe news I don't like.
But, I'm not invested either way should it turn out I was wrong.
I'm just not into worrying about Clay.

    WORD!!
  5. ETA:

Who has seen The Watchmen? I intend to see it this weekend because after watching the opening sequence online (before it was pulled) I was hooked. Then I read this on an entertainment website:

The whole movie ROCKED!!!!! I'm not going to play spoiler here but I gotta tell you this. LOL

Two older women came in, looked to be in their 60s and sat down at the end of our seating row.

The first time Doctor Manhattan strolls across the scene fully and frontally nude one of the women yelped Hello!!!! and proceeded to spill her large soda all over the place!!HAHAHAHA!!!!

    Okay, who plays Doctor Manhattan!

kf - for what it's worth: chachadotter#1, SIL & friend walked out of Watchmen this past Saturday.

They couldn't take all the blood and guts spewed all thru the part they watched. Even my SIL!

I think they stayed for around half of it. dotter#1 said it wasn't even like it was spread out, it was like every 2-3 minutes.

And not just wounding and blood, but actual body parts like you'd see in an anatomy disection class.

I was mildly interested in seeing it until she said she sat there with her eyes covered thru most of it.

If you want full frontal nudity, buy a Playgirl!!

Let us know what you think if you actually go and see it!

eta: Billy Crudup plays Dr. Manhattan

  6. OK - just came up with my 3 fave romantic songs...

"And I Love Her" - The Beatles (Paul!) - either AHDN version, Geo Martin instrumental version is to die for!

"Unchained Melody" was always a fave - remember it being featured as Paula's 'song' on Cheers?

"To Catch the Wind" - Donovan - the most poetic song about unrequited love out there - hands down!

(I heard it on a commercial recently, what's up with that?)

    :hello: Thanks liney!

  7. Hey all - did ja miss me? :) I've been here lurking, but I had to skip about 20 pages so I am not up on everything.

Love those new pictures!! I wonder who shot them?

Seeing Clay with his ipod makes me wonder if he's listening to new posibilities for another album.

This post brought to you by Speculations R Us!

lilyshine - Love the book-binding!! They're beautiful! Does it require a lot of expensive equipment?

muski - when you said George Martin, it made me think of the Beatles' producer.

oh goodie, top o' the page!

  8. I am trying to find the afore mentioned COSMO GIRL PIC of Clay, what is it???

I am at a loss, can someone post it please?

I love Facebook but I don't know many people's real name on here so if you want to be friends, please send me your name! Love the new thread Fear started!

Reality shows?? Oh GAWD - I watch too many of them.

Such as........ tonight THE BACHELOR is chosing his bride.

Tonight Jason, who is a really cute guy from Seattle with a 4 yr old son, gets bombarded with emotions...... (see preview) because DeAnna, the girl who took him all the way to the top 2 on the Bachelorette last year, makes a surprise appearance because "she made a mistake."

They are billing it as "the most emotional finale yet." (of course they always say that!)

But I'll be right there watching!!! I can't wait to see what happens.

  9. Good idea for a thread, Fear.

One thing I haven't figured out, partly due to time constraints - how do I participate in the notes when friends "tag" me? I'd like to fill them out for myself, post to my page, and tag others, but I haven't quite figured that out!

Another good way to find friends is through your work and education history. Since we moved from CA to OH when I was in junior high, I still have friends, and people I wonder what happened with, from my early school days. I've actually reconnected with several in the last few months on FB. :)

    Hey Facebook Friends!!! :D

Anna - Here's what you do when someone tags you and you want to play along.

If the activity is a "Note" click on the title of the note on your home page, read and add comments if you want.

To respond return to your Home page and click Notes over on the right side near the top under Applications. This will bring up all the notes you've been tagged in. Copy whatever you need to and then click "Write a New Note" at the top right(ish). Title and type your note.

To Tag people there's a little box on the top right side of the note window that says "Tag people in this note - type any name" - when you begin to type, it gives you an auto fill in of your friends' names.

Just keep going until you have the names you want filled in.

Click the publish button at the bottom. Or the Save Draft if you aren't finished.

When you come back the Edit button is at the top of the Draft.

When you hit the publish button you get an option for short or long. Pick one. :)

You can always delete it from your profile page and try again, it is still saved in your notes section.

Fear - Thanks for adding this section! This is a great idea! (Tell me your name and I'll add you as a friend!)

lucky - thanks for the info on groups - I think I might want to do that - it's getting too confusing!

  10. OK - oh wonderful Wiz of K (andre)

(I just watched Life on Mars which had a lot of WOO references :) )

I have a question which has been bugging me for awhile.

Now that it's out that Clay is gay and all...

What do you think about all those people who insisted on making a couple out of Clay and John D?

Do you think there was a possibility of it being true?

NOTE on the link posting instructions. Am I the only one who gets a message saying something about allowing scripted windows when you click the link button?

  11. So, I just want to ask everyone... how did you become a part of the fandom and when did you realize it was special?

OK - my turn - I LOVE ALL THESE STORIES!!

I had a very busy summer after Clay didn't win AI. Didn't go online, and didn't go to the AI tour. chachadotter#1 was getting married, living with us, had no car, and I had plans to attend the Beatlefest in Cleveland instead of the AI tour. (what a bad call that was!)

Two members of another online group were Clay fans, and we started branching off and talking about Clay. I was looking for something to do for his birthday in 03 and came across the Look What Love Has Done site. You could donate in his name and different boards had their banners up there. One in particular really intrigued me - LECHEROUS BROADS FOR CLAY AIKEN.

I started checking out their board, and finally figured out how to post on it sometime in December. In January, Clay was supposed to sing at the NCC Basketball game, the SSB and a song at halftime. Otherwise known as Bobblefest, since they were giving out free Clay Bobblehead dolls. (

    :D )

One night about 2 am, I decided to check out the site and see if tix were still available. I ended up buying 2 tickets (they were only $20.00!) and I had no idea how I would get there or where I'd stay!

I coerced my frind Mary to drive to Charlotte with me and off we went, to meet 10 or 15 Broads I had never seen before! We had such a great time!! We went to one's house after the game and watched AI clack that I never knew existed until all hours of the night.

After that I was doubly hooked and started going to as many concerts as I possibly could! I ended up flying to St Paul and St Louis too. ldyj - I was there at the Hard Rock too! I should look for you in my photos!

I love this fandom as much as I love Clay. And this board is amazing, I hardly ever go anywhere else these days!! I've been here for about 2 years now, after a side trip thru the CH.

    :hugs-1:& :BlowKiss:

  12. During the SRHP or DCAT in Philadelphia, there was a separator low wall between the first 5,0r 6or 10 rows and the rest of the facility. Clay walked around it at least twice. Since we had 2nd row seats we had to turn 360 o to watch him sing. Some people reached up for him but poor Jerome was right there running around the place. :cryingwlaughter:

That's right! I forgot all about that one! So imagine that on a much larger scale... it was really cool. I mean we were 22 rows back - not bad seats at all but at various points, we felt like we were in the second/third row because the guys were so close! It was way cool and made the experience all that much more fun!

that was fabulous!! I was in the first row behind that catwalk when he walked around it. Wooooooooo Hooooooooo!!!

I was there, too, with good seats that became amazing seats for the period of time Clay was walking on that divider that wasn't meant to be a catwalk. What a treat that was! The whole concert was just great. After all, Clay became a man that night.

Re: bolded part - I'm pretty sure it was only 2 or 3 rows, because I think we were in the 3rd or 4th row. :)

I remember seeing one person touch Clay's foot, she was on the other side toward the stage. The second time Jerome was right there to prevent it happening again!

    Here's

    and here's

At about 1:50 in the song, he was right in front of me! There wasn't much clack from that show because of the camera nazis. I had to walk back to my car and put mine away before we went in.

  14. They can sing in the studio where there are all kinds of gadgets to make them sound oh,so fantastic but put them on a stage and there ain't one good voice between the three of them. However, when you've got great promotion and constantly screaming fans, who knows if they are singing or not. I remember an interview one time with the beatles where they admitted that at one venue they didn't sing one of their songs, just moved their mouths. The screaming was so loud, no one even noticed.( I liked the Beatles, by the way)

But so goes a lot of the music stars of today. The Jonas Brothers together with Stevie Wonder.......ahhh, not sure about that combination....seems off to me. Just my two cents folks. I'm not watching the Grammies for no particular reason but maybe they could have a show sometime with artists actually singing words you can make out with music that doesn't rupture your eardrums.I had read somewhere that this Grammy show was going to be unique because they were doing it differently..........how'd they do?....did they achieve their goal?

    By the way :loveclaysbutt:

I think what they did differently was there was no host or commentators, and there was a succession of artists and celebrities just walking out and doing the next category. I think it worked well, although I am not an expert because I'm not really sure how they've done it in the past.

And... Honest to God - I didn't know Paul was up foor a Grammy either!! It was a coincidence I even turned on the TV when I did, and saw him in the audience. What a treat!!

Apparently he released an EP this past year with 4 songs on it, called "Amoeba's Secret," it was recorded live. The one he was nominated for was called "That Was Me," in the category of "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance." I would've loved to have seen him win! Just heard the song for the first time tonight. He was also nominated for "I Saw Her Standing There" (hence his singing it on the show) in the "Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance" category.

(I just looked all this up! News to me!)

HERE'S THE YOUTUBE OF "I SAW HERE STANDING THERE"

from Paul's official youtube channel - you can hear part of all four songs on the EP on this. :) (and a few others.)

It looks like he did what he used to do back in the 70's and just show up some place small and put on a concert. It's AWESOME!

    ___

As for Clay being on the Grammys sometime, I can totally see it. I hope it comes to pass a few years down the road.
