  1. Oooooo I haven't seen that movie! That's the trouble with living outside the USA!! I just checked it out and ... did you know the role of Maxine was played by Rhonda Ross Kendrick, Diana Ross' first child. Rhonda's father is Berry Gordy.... really, Motown's child... since she is the progeny of the most prominent male and female of the Motown era. I note Smokey Robinson's plays himself! I gotta get this movie somehow... cuz only recently I spent an entire evening looking at the old Motown vids on YouTube... especially Florence Ballard's.... she really had a beautiful voice. I tell ya who's a hottie... Diana Ross' youngest child, Evan. Here's a vid on the family http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtf7lJLL40Q...feature=related but Evan is now 20 and really getting some good work in the business as an actor. He has the looks of a movie star.
  2. Australia is about to enter the BBQ season and some of you may be interested in understanding the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity Down Under, although there is some evidence that it could be a world-wide phenomenon: When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion: Routine... (1) The woman buys the food. (2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert. (3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand. (4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman. Here comes the important part: (5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL. More routine... (6) The woman goes inside to organise the plates and cutlery. (7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he flips the meat . Important again: (8) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN. More routine... (9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table. (10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes. And most important of all: (11) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts. (12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed 'her night off.' And, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, he stupidly concludes that there's just no pleasing some women.
  3. Four Tops front man Levi Stubbs dies Anyone else a Motown freak? I absolutely loved The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Miracles and, of course, The Supremes. Levi Stubbs, RIP.
  4. I am a dog owner, and as much as I love my dog, I know she's not perfect. She barks too much andI worry that someone will complain, but if she were to create any damage in any way (unlikely since she is small and securely locked into my yard), I would not hesitate to do what I could to make up for it. I am responsible for my dog. Parents are responsible if their kids cause damage to someone's property, never mind killing an animal that belongs to someone. While I don't have chickens (would be nice to have free-range eggs!), I know people who DO and those chickens seem to be very much individuals, have their own 'personalities' - well the owners can see it, so they are special to them. I get very upset when people say "oh, it's just a dog", or whatever animal or pet that is important to someone. But I know there are people in this world who are just incapable of 'getting it' when it comes to domestic animals despite the fact that is is now well-documented that pets are a critical part of our well-being, well at least to those of us who share our lives with them..
  5. Does anyone else use WYZO browser (http://wyzo.com/) ? It was recommended to me this week and I have just installed it. I really like it A LOT!! If anyone has any negatives to report, I'd like to hear about it now rather than find out for myself LOL!!! p.s. Do we have a thread for technical-type discussions? I thought I would post about WYZO in a techie thread so I had a look but couldn't find anything - thought it might be a good idea ... as sometimes someone will mention something technical that I find interesting, but when I try to find it again, I can't even remember who posted it!

  7. I don't have a problem with what Clay's wearing. But Jerome's attire.... now... erm... that I have a problem with!!
  8. I know why. And I would be upset too.
  9. Someone sent me this - wasn't sure where to post it so thought it may as well be here! It's "food" for thought?
  10. Has anyone seen the movie Zeitgeist? I received this in an email today: If you haven't read Creature From Jekyll Island (about the Federal Reserve) you might find it very interesting. The author G. Edward Griffin will open your eyes about money and who controls it. No doubt some of you already know about the banking cartel. Oh, and G. Edward Griffin is very entertaining in the way he presents it. If you haven't read the book, you can download an MP3: http://www.spielbauer.com/JekyllDownload.htm Once you start listening, you won't want to be interrupted, so I'd suggest you set aside approx 1 hour - listen to it in the car, taking the dog for a walk, doing the housework etc. It is amazing how many people still don't know about it. As he says, when you have so much money, it becomes irrelevant. It's all about power and control.
  11. HAHA, this reminds me.... when Madonna first announced that she was writing a children's book, John Laws (probably the most famous radio star in Oz) suggested on air that it be titled "TittyTittyBangBang"!!!
  12. Clever and insightful. Would you like a serious thought-provoking laugh, or should that be a thought-provoking cry? Watch this www.brasschecktv.com/page/187.html In future, should should we and/or our politicians consult comedians for advice on the economy?
  13. Came across this, Cove Magazine's 100 OUTSTANDING POP VOCALISTS. I sure got excited to see who is at number 15! He sure is in good company. Don't know what year this was. (I can't believe Kylie Minogue is listed, I always felt her success was because she was a nice little package, sweet girl, sweet voice, sings on key and very popular, but not "a voice" in the real sense. ) Christina deserves the top position, her pipes are a freakish talent.) 1. Christina Aguilera (+50) -perfect score! 2. Mariah Carey (+49.7) 3. Michael Jackson (+49.5) 4. Celine Dion (+49.2) 5. Johnny Gill (+48.6) 6. Whitney Houston (+48.5) 7. Beyonce (+48) 8. 14. OOps I missed quite a few posts - I've been semi-absent and if I miss a day or two here, I'm overwhelmed by all the posts and just kinda read the last page.... I've fixed the glossary a bit to include a few things. I've included Couchie's request to have Bookwhore's disclaimer, and a couple of things luckiest told me. I have added "Hockeygate" and at first included KAndre's explanation, then I saw a few others and thought it best just to include the discussion thread as a link. If someone is confident about writing an "official" explanation for Hockeygate, do send it to me! :lmaosmiley-1: If you have trouble with the webpage, it could be your browzer. Sorry the line spacing isn't quite right, Google Page Creator seems to have a mind of its own, and sometimes I just can't seem to do what I want! Please don't hesitate to email me with anything at all that you feel needs to be amended. I have done what I could but don't forget that not only do I not live in the USA, have never seen Clay live and only joined this board at the end of Dec 07. So I am not at all sensitive if someone needs to tell me I have made an error. On the contrary, I would be grateful to have it as close to perfect as possible. New members to this board... please don't hesitate to let me know that the FCA Glossary (top right hand of the screen, just under the "Search' and 'Help' links) does not include something you were looking for. At least if I know, I can ask the admin/mods and then add it to the list.
  15. 11 PEOPLE ON A ROPEunder an helicopter Eleven people (10 men and ONE woman) were hanging on a rope, under an helicopter. The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave, otherwise they would ALL fall. They weren't able to choose that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech. She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little or nothing in return. As soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping .
  16. Well, how is it I didn't know Canadians had Thanksgiving? Maybe it is because a few years ago, I mentioned to an American online friend that I wished we had Thanksgiving in Australia.... instead of Christmas. I like the idea of family getting together over a special meal without the absolute circus of what Christmas has become. Hardly anyone I know cares about Christmas in the traditional sense, it is just an excuse to eat and drink too much, and spend too much money on giving presents to people who don't really want what they've been given. OK, kids want their presents but the spirit of giving is no longer there, it is all about the gifts, and then the new year rolls around and families are deeply stressed over credit card debt. (Okay, okay..., I'll take my terrible bah humbug attitude somewhere else.... but for a long time now, I have wished that Christmas was a special festival for primary school-age children ONLY).) (Oh and i don't even like Christmas Carols although I will confess to being mesmerized by Clay singing Mary Did You Know.... He is the only one who has ever moved me with a Christmas song. ) Anyway, the American friend gave me a long story on the history of Thanksgiving and said it was unique to the USA. So I wish I'd known then to tell her she was wrong.... ETA: Hope you feel better soon, aikim
  17. Well, I can't find it on YouTube, probably because it was just part of the banter in-between their scheduled topics. How it started was that they were talking about children's movie classics and Barbara made a comment to Elisabeth that she is not sure that Grace is her (Elisabeth's, as the little girl looks nothing like her) daughter but she is sure that Grace is Tim's daughter! Elisabeth replied that if she didn't know that Grace had come out of HER, she'd be wondering as well! That's when Whoopi chimed in to say when she gave birth, the baby looked like a Japanese man, and she told the nurse that it wasn't her baby, and kept insisting it could not be her baby and tried to give it back. The nurse insisted that it had to be her baby as it was the only black baby in the ward. Then Whoopi saw the baby smile ( that's what she said) and she saw herself in the baby's face and said "gimme my baby". OK, that doesn't sound very funny because it's being paraphrased in text by me BUT when Whoopi tells it in the way only Whoopi can, it is really funny! I tried to find it at the ABC site but they showed clips of the debate discussion and the SNL skit of the debate but not this part about the baby thing.
  18. Hee thanks for the heads up....and TGFYT because less than 24 hours later, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ES6kyheAM Gotta have a 'grudging' admiration for Elisabeth ... it's nearly always Elisabeth against everyone else but she never gives up. Frankly, I'd never heard of The View until Meredith replaced Katie Couric on NBC with Matt Lauer,.and somehow Meredith seems too "polite" to have been a part of that rowdy group of ladies! I think they are a great bunch, I just LURVE Whoopi, I am totally in awe of her because she is so very much her own person. Her story about her new born baby was so funny, I mean, if Whoopi tells the story, it is always hilarious. ! I remember Whoopi being in Australia on one of our TV shows, and there she was being interviewed on camera with a pair of condoms hanging off her ears, as earrings..... she was advocating safe-sex, and it wasn't a joke...those of you who are familiar with the dead-serious, strongly-opinionated Whoopi will know what I mean!!! aikim.... when I told people I was having my 4 wisdom teeth removed, I was met with sympathetic looks and asked by some ... "in the chair or under general (anaesthetic)"? I started to get nervous... I was off to work in the morning and went for my dental appointment in the afternoon. The "ordeal" was over while I was still anxiously waiting for the pain and discomfort. The dentist told me to pick up some over-the-counter painkillers on my way home. So I went to the Chemist (drug store) and told the woman who worked there I'd just had 4 wisdom teeth removed. She said "oh, you poor thing", and told me to take it easy whilst she swiftly got me some tablets to take when the local anaesthetic wore off. I got home, and walked into my apartment feeling fragile and anxiously anticipating the onslaught of pain I was warned about. Two, four, six hours passed, the anaesthetic wore off, and still no pain. I felt cheated. Wasted my money on painkillers. Truth is...I probably felt well enough to party that night.
  19. I guess singing must be a good appetite stimulant because Billy Joel said the same thing...
  20. Clay sang "When a Man Loves a Woman" at Golfing for Inclusion, and that surely has to be the ultimate heterosexual song. A proof-reader's job is to find errors, such as grammatical, spelling etc etc, not really for content. I thought he may have submitted his blog for feed-back from his publicist, if it was someone he trusted on a personal level. A professional publicist has a good feel about how to reach the masses, etc. But Clay is unique in a lot of things, and I think he tends to go with his instincts. The way he does most things works for me. ETA If Clay seems more relaxed in a touchy/feely way, perhaps he no longer feels he has to be careful about how he "manhandles" LOL a woman in case she gets the wrong idea about his intentions! Now that he has made it clear he is gay, it is going to be a lot easier for him to be openly affectionate with women.
  21. Well, I figured those who are sensitive about their age wouldn't be revealing it in their profile, and of course I grab every opportunity to post one of my historical quotes!!!! But heck, every additional year means more life experience, greater wisdom - hopefully! Personally, I wouldn't want to go back to my 20s... I was so naive. But you can't put an old head on young shoulders, so we all have to live through those stumbling years! Claytonic, if you go back to your link, there is a .pdf right on the page that you can download. It says it contains the whole magazine....I didn't check. FromClaygary, THANKS for that, I found the article in full! HA join the club! When I was reading Clay's blog, I kept finding errors (looks like he doesn't like the possessive apostrophe, amongst other things!)... then I saw my post about People.com quoted by FromClaygary, and there's my grammatical boo boo immortalized in her post! I've always been considered The Grammar Guru and The Human Dictionary BC (Before Computers.... when people were too lazy to look up something). Goes to show no one is perfect....and how much easier it is to see other people's error than one's own. Although I was surprised Clay's blog looked like it hadn't been proof-read and scrutinized by Jaymes and/or his publicist, the fact that it wasn't grammatically perfect indicates to me that it was probably entirely his communication, spoken with his loving heart and intelligent mind. He didn't really need to prove anything else. http://www.southcoasttoday.com/apps/pbcs.d...50313/-1/NEWS10 The author of this blog really pissed.me.off. I replied to it as freethinker1. I can't stomach so-called Christians who spend all their time pointing the finger at others (especially decent people who don't meet THEIR approval) while quoting from the Bible. Muski, so very sorry to hear about Shadow. I raised my German Shepherd from puppy to 14 years, and anyone who says a dog isn't family has never known the unconditional love of a pet, and the heartbreak involved when it is time to say goodbye. My dogs have taught me so much about humans, including myself. ETA: scarlett, that is a wonderful idea, and shouldn't be too hard to achieve (says claytonic who lives too far away to be of any assistance...) EATA: I've just updated this thread for a list of all the YouTube videos featuring the songs from On My Way Here. http://findingclayaiken.invisionzone.com/i...st=0#entry63685 The main idea for this was so that the list can be sent to people to listen to, and hopefully they will buy the CD themselves. (While it is nice to buy the CD to give to someone, it is better if they buy it themselves because they love it)
  22. ldyjocelyn I don't want you to go to any trouble... I was thinking there could be someone who has a cache of scanned articles, all neatly archived in chronological order!! It's not that important that I see that article... I have all the music, and that's the main thing!
  23. http://www.people.com/people/archive/issue...6030526,00.html I was at the People.com site and did a search on Clay Aiken and it brought up that page (above). It shows the People cover in May 2003, with Clay, Kim and Ruben. I realize this is very, VERy old for most of you but does anyone have a scanned copy filed away and easy to access or know of any site that has compiled scans of press articles?
  24. Oh look, Palin is annoyed with Katie Couric for not asking her the questions she wanted to be asked......
