  1. First, I don't take direction from you. Second, if you are deliberately "setting traps" you are taking this all too seriously. Stalking? Heeee.....you could always block my posts.
  2. Actually, Claytonic, I talking about the statement "we" are not as liberal or whatever. You used the Prop 8 voting as proof. I get just as pissy being told I voted for Bush just because more people in Florida supposedly voted for him than for Kerry. I was a red-stater. Ludicrous. And you do post a lot of strong opinions - don't you expect to be be disagreed with? In fact, some of your retorts in your last post completely missed my point - I was saying that I thought Clay was wrong. I was disagreeing with Clay. Speaking of tantrums....... And yes I absolutely think Clay is stubborn, I just don't think that when he does not do what fans think he should do, career-wise, he is being "stubborn." The "stubborn" label is being slapped on for ridiculous reasons. How he chooses to handle his career and live his life is not ours to actually dictate, and to pronounce him stubborn because he doesn't do what we say is ridiculous and a misuse of the word. IMO. You missed my meaning.
  3. Regarding that "second listen' thing - like Couchie says, there is so much entertainment out there that there is no "need" to keep listening until you change your mind - it is not like, for instance, I am a type 2 diabetic refusing to use the only insulin available because it has Adam's picture on it. I am sure Adam will have a stellar career. Hey, every year it is somebody new. People move on, it is natural. "We" just don't move on all together. I am really pissed off, though, because Clay never mentioned Anoop or Allison - he must be jellus!!!!!!!! No excuses!!!!!!
  4. I don't know who "we" are, but I just disagree. I don't see the Idol vote as indicative of anything beyond a vote in the 8th season of Idol. I rarely watch the show anymore, although I don't have a problem with it, I just don't have time. And I certainly don't vote, but I wouldn't have voted for Adam under any circumstances, because he disqualified himself with his butchered version of One, which I did see. And even though I left a homophobe husband over Elton John, I can't be counted on to vote for the gay guy. I don't see the Idol vote as a "cause." On a completely different note, I think I've detected that a good number of people, especially boomer-types, are always anticipating the next Elvis, the next Beatles, the next Dylan, and I believe this to be a futile search. The music options are now pretty much unlimited, the delivery systems reach us from the sources of our choosing, and tastes are sophisticated, diverse and individualized. There may be bands and singers that have large followings and more fame than they know what do with -- but for any of them to be THE ONE. Ummm, no. I believe the Elvis thing to be a phenomena of times past. And ... I think that's a good thing. At least an indication of some evolution on the planet. And 00lsee, I think there must be a demonstrable difference in the reactions of original online fans vs those who came later. You guys who went through the long wars have developed a reflex as to what will set off a chain reaction in the fandom. I wince that you must wince, because I remain as ever in these matters, ignorant. Or, for you who say idget, I'm ignernt. Just can't add much to that - and it was not like Prop 8 passed with 100% voting one way or the other. AI is just a TV show. Adam is just another singer. I don't even think the vote was any kind of statement, as Clay says. In fact, for every person who theoretically rebelled against the judges' pimpage, there may have been a person who wanted to climb on what was supposed to be the winning train. Maybe the voting is more meaningful in smaller countries or something? As an "original online fan", I do tend to be dismissive of anything applied across-the-board to "us" or "we" or whatever. And will continue to be dismissive. And predicting patterns? Bwahahaha! Sometimes I can correctly predict the posters, for and against something. I do resent the implication that if Adam was straight, I would like him and/or vote for him. Nope. Has nothing to do with it. Maybe roll my eyes at the implication would be more accurate.
  5. I think it means You Know Who, and the implication seems to be that it was Clay. Gotta say doubties on that. I would find it hard to believe something like that would not be all over the news. Well, okay, you heard it here second!!!! I don't think Clay needs to be told to "shut up and sing" - it is merely up to each of us whether we want to listen. Forming an opinion after one listen? I do that all the time, if I have no real interest. I don't think Clay is all that interested in the ongoing saga of AI or putting time into listening to the contestants. In fact, I do disagree with him that millions of people are so thoughty as to vote rebelliously and to send some sort of message. It is just a TV show.
  6. Claytonic, I assumed you were talking in general terms, that is what I was answering to. I felt you were giving reasons ahead of time as to why either guy would be more or less successful. I just was expressing that I differ, is all. Kris' talent is being diminished all over the place, people saying he should not have won or that he only won because of homophobia. Tell you the truth, I don't think "gay" when I think of Adam, I just don't like very much of that Steven Tyler shrieking, not even if it is on key. Sales - what I meant was that CD sales of AI winners seem to have no relation to how many votes they got. Taylor was saying he got 52 million votes; his sales were rather less. Anyway, I have not cared about first or second or whatever place in years, because now it looks to me that just finishing in the top 10 and going on tour is the object, really, the exposure is what counts. Being The Idol is pretty much diminished when the next season starts, and now there is a passel of 'em. I think sales depend more on genre now, I think the days of buying an AI CD as a sort of souvenir are gone. But maybe Adam fans will buy multiples, cool for him! I can't be the only one who has a favorite - this year it was Anoop, a previous year it was Scott Savol - and then, when my guy is (inevitably) booted off, I stop watching, or don't get into voting, because I don't care about the "game" any more. I certainly don't care much about AI unless it has something to do with Clay.
  7. Nah. Not going to be that big of a deal. And just maybe, just a possibility, consider that people voted for Kris because they liked Kris' music. It could happen! (tm Judy Tenuta). It is not like the guys had similar styles and choosing between them was apples and apples. Anyway, it has been a while since votes for anybody translated into sales - just ask Taylor Hicks. Also think there are narrow-minded people of all religions, not just Christians. This is why I kind of hoped Adam would win, less angst. I hate that Kris is going to get Ruben-ized and his win diminished a bit. Second hope is that there are lots of online boards just for Adam.
  8. Heh, I assume that is a rhetorical question, as far as the media goes! And I don't agree at all about that "for the most part, Clay was regarded as a straight, southern Christian boy ", again, as far as the media is concerned - the MFing Advocate was right there hollering at Clay, asking him if he was gay, at that press conference after the finale. Simon said is Clay gay? Just look at him! The Clay is Gay stuff started fairly early on here. Clay's name evidently brings x number of reliable hits, too. Plus I believe some idiots really do think that, since Clay's entire fan base did not desert him when he came out, then they would all love Adam too, because of course the gay thing is more important than the voice. I would not be surprised to hear crap about Clay NOT being loud and proud about a most personal matter, about how Adam ONLY lost because of some huge backlash, about how well the second place person does, sometimes, just look at Clay Aiken etc. Even though the whole thing is a crapshoot. I can still remember how cocky Taylor was, right after his win. I didn't vote for anybody, and I really only liked Anoop, so it is kinda just academic to me. I don't care for Adam's style, and that is the screaming, nothing else. I thought Kris had a beautiful voice. Both guys will find out how many fans they really have when their CDs drop. The media and rival fan camps stuff is just blabbering. Heeeee.....watched the last couple of minutes of the Magic game this morning, and it mirrored the AI finale, in a way. The Great LeBron James put Cleveland ahead with less than a minute to go, the announcers had already given us "The Keys to the Win", and the Magic evidently didn't get the news, they hung in there and won. At least Marv Albert, in the middle of the pontificating, said Yesssssss! when the Magic sank the game-winning basket. And LeBron, his coach, and the fans were still standing around going Huh? when TV coverage ended. The loss will be ascribed to a cramp in James' leg, even though at one point the Magic were around 20 points behind. Man, I forgot how much I love watching all the stuff that goes on in a basketball game. After a drought so bad that I was getting fire hazard condition alerts all day every day for a year, we are now having what seems to be our traditional rain and lightning and thunder stuff every day, all day. Just in time for my grandson's class trip to Adventure Island.
  9. Bwah!!!!!! Actually, it is the certainty that they will lose if I happen to be watching and they are winning, especially if they have a comfortable lead. If they are losing, I can't make it any worse. I have watched 20 point leads disappear in seconds, just by the other team fouling Shaq 87 times. Plus those days, someone could nail Shaq's foot to the floor with a nail gun, in plain sight, and Shaq would catch the foul for getting blood on the floor.
  10. OMG!!!!! When I first peeked, they were behind by 16 points or something!!!!!!! Heeee.......first playoffs they ever got to, Chicago - Michael and Scotty - swept them in the finals. The next year, the Rockets swept them in the first round. I didn't know they were underdogs this year, but I would have loved to see Horace Grant and Penny win a championship. Especially Horace.
  11. That sounds interesting - speaking of ginger, I think I will start a search for ginger slices with a sugar substitute. I adore candied ginger slices, but don't like the sugar. Oh, cool, I just found a recipe for crystallized ginger where you simmer the slices without sweetener and then dust with Stevia. Well, more to it than that, but I will try it! A favorite restaurant meal in Holland was pannekoeken - more like crepe than a pancake, with huge choice of toppings. I always got Gouda cheese and ginger slices. My boyfriend always got fresh tuna. I know ginger is good for me. But I just like it anyway. I would eat it if it was terrible for me! I read about that 100 Mile thing in Domino magazine a couple of years ago. The advice was to go very early and shop at the busiest stalls.
  12. Kelly Ripa, not Kelly Clarkson. On the R&K show, after Clay put his hand over her mouth because she just would not stop interrupting. A quite vehement and ugly tirade. Ugly enough that Clay and Tori Spelling mocked it at a big awards show and everyone seemed to know exactly what happened. And Ripa puts her hand over other people's mouths quite a bit, it was not like Clay did something never before seen on TV. Bwah! When I was living in and working in Durham N.C., I was telling the guys I worked with about a great restaurant I had gone to, called Claire's. It was in a charming old house; dunno if it is still in business, this was around 1986 or so.. Anyway, one of the guys said he had heard the waiters were gay, so he wasn't going to go there, and I said "I don't know what YOU do when you go to a restaurant, but I just go to have a nice dinner!" Everybody started laughing, and that was the end of that. Eeeeeee! A Crate and Barrel store is opening here in Tampa - I remember thinking nothing of driving about 160 or so miles each way from Bloomington Ill. with friends to go to the first C&B in Chicago's Old Town, shopping, then having pickles, cheeseburgers and beer at The Pickle Barrel. I also lurve Kellie Pickler a lot!
  13. Hey, Couchie, maybe I am the only one who remembers that Hank Ballard actually wrote The Twist, invented the dance, and did the song waaaay better than Chubby Checker did, plus I think Finger-Poppin Time was awesome to dance to.....here is a cool site that lists a lot of the rock and roll greats with A/B sides for their singles soulfulkindamusic.net Sucksters - board called Survivor Sucks, they made acrid fun of everything, they started with Survivor, then branched out to other reality shows, sort of like a TwoP with a sometimes very very nasty edge. Some hard-core Clay-haters there. But one of the funniest pieces of snark ever is from there - Gregoire's Book of Clay, which is stored, along with other funny stuff, here - CH- Gregoire That sort of snark is long gone, the innocence has gone, agendas worked their way into skits and funny pieces, FOR ME, that's all I'm saying. For my own personal entertainment, it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I mean that in the nicest possible way! :-) Yep, my entertainment time is precious. So I don't evaluate what I watch or care enough about what others watch to comment on it, my time is too precious for that, too, I just go with the flow. There are many reasons to not watch AI or any other show - mine is that it is old and boring and predictable, and I like other shows better. Or I am reading a book or web surfing or working. I can remember my friends coming over every Friday night after Happy Hour, to watch Dallas - and I never thought it interesting enough to watch with them until maybe the third season, and I liked Falcon Crest better anyway, so at least the TV was on the right channel so I wouldn't miss it. That's what CMSU about some critiques of who watches or doesn't watch whatever, and why or why not, as if watching TV was some sort of important thing to do. Maybe because I have gone for a year or two at various times with no TV at all because it broke and I couldn't afford to replace it, or that I worked overseas so much and got out of the habit - I just don't think of TV as a cornerstone of my entertainment world. Plus I would rather read a new murder mystery than watch most shows. I probably have a backlash thing going on from watching TV as a kid, every night was TV night, the viewing was pretty much pre-planned, three hours a night. Most nights my TV is on the meditation or singers and standards, or whatever I feel like that minute radio channel, unless there is something I really want to watch. If I remember, that is. And everything on TV can be replayed forevah, so no urgency there at all. Thanks for bringing over the news from Clay's appearance last night, I love reading about that stuff.
  14. I saw her in Champaign-Urbana, around that time, and she closed with Desperado - and the guy I was with wanted to leave so we could get out of the parking lot. We argued about that one! She is awesome.
  15. Heeeee......I don't think FCA is the board for easily-offended-altar-worshippers! (Except maybe for the guy we are Finding, that is why we are here, I believe!) But I prefer Aretha, and I prefer Simon and Garfunkle's BOTW and while I love to hear Clay sing everything, I have never ever ever cared for UM. Too bombastic, no matter who sings it. I really really wanted to like Buble more than I do, it is not a matter of being loyal to Sinatra, I just don't feel Buble gets into the songs, or something. "Lite" is how I think of him. Shrug. I do love Linda Ronstadt's versions of the standards, though, and I don't really like to hear Kelly sing much of anything, although she does have a good voice. She is a loud breather, and once I notice that, I am outta there.
  16. Oh, anything that does away with seeing a quite real Alan Rickman as Snape should begone instantly! And Robbie Coltrane! And Gary Oldman!!!!!!! I love Timothy Spall, too! Seeing the characters grow up and change is part of the fun. Sorry, but something like HP or LOTR needs more depth and layering than is possible in a cartoon. IMO. And my grandson's opinion, too, he felt the animated Star Wars movie was not worth going to the movies for. I certainly would not have gone to the movies each time to see a cartoon LOTR. Still shuddering at that animated Hobbit movie, with Glenn Yarborough bursting loudly into song at odd but numerous intervals. In fact, I was kinda scared that someone would animate LOTR complete with the Captain-Obvious-Suggested "Riders on the Storm" accompanying the Nazgul, and discourage everyone from making the movies with real people. Seriously, it was amazing how many drunk or stoned guys at parties, back in the day, would portentously announce that they had the perfect song for LOTR. After the first couple of times I would just say Wow! You should let someone in Hollywood know that! Yeah, I think you would need to have read the book or seen the movie to understand. Both LOTR and HP have a perfect blend of real people and CGI. Again IMO. Not "cheek", just another opinion, everyone has a few!
  17. Been reading reviews and comments about Angels and Demons - some thought there would be picketing or whatever by Catholics. There was nothing controversial whatsoever, unless you think everyone in any particular religion must be a good guy. Actually, Kenneth the Page referring to the bible as "science" was more controversial than the entire movie. Can't wait to see Star Trek!!!!!!!! And Terminator!!!!!!! And Night at the Smithsonian!!!!!! Yes, we do so love mindless fun!!!!!!!!! and $5 morning movies.
  18. These people are awesome!!!!!!!! The site is a bit slow, for me, on navigation. But the graphics are incredible! All the projects are cool, but I love Samsung and Quinn - Quinn is three minutes long and is wonderful! 1st Ave Machine oops - the three minute cgi rainforest extravaganza is here - quinn
  19. I love buses! But the ones in Holland went too fast for me, turned corners too sharply, it was scary. There were times on subway trains in Tokyo that I was pretty much the only person who seemed awake, people just got on the train, sat down, and went to sleep - just rows of gently bobbing heads, sometimes. (not at rush hour, of course!) Rickshaw? I am jellus! Yes, the Greyhound Station in Tampa is very scary. Drug dealers on bicycles, panhandlers, whatever. But the Amtrak station is awesome. What was the math question? I seem to have always used a "new math" approach to things, so I wondered what the question was. Scarlett, my cubicle-mates were a mixed bag, the guys were sweet and matter-of-fact, the woman was a shrike and a harridan. She was astounded that anyone would listen to a singer if they knew the singer was gay. I hope to never ever see her again. Even without the gay comments, she was a piece of work. I am in love with that Samsung hummingbird commercial, it was made by a company called 1st Ave Machine, they have it and a lot more awesome commercials on their website.
  20. Then I am TOTALLY going to trademark it!!!!!!! Heeee......it was way easier than typing "I went to youtube and searched for Jack Jones"....... "tubed" sounded weird.
  21. Thanks, muski, I was afraid I had been too obscure!!!! Disclaimer - I have a couple of Jack Jones albums, but I bought them for the songs, not the singer. Anyway, I youtubed Jack to see if I remembered correctly (yes), and listened to him sing "She" (Charles Aznavour's, not Marianne Faithfull's, although both songs are up in my top 10) - and then youtubed Aznavour. Wow! What a difference - Charles sings that song (his song) the very bestest. I had forgotten how much I love to listen to Aznavour, voice smooth, quick, sure, melting. Elvis Costello sings She second best. Not a song for Sinatra, I don't think.
  22. I am not jamar, but Gaffigan's BACON routine is hysterical! Dane Cook has an uninterrupted special on Comedy Channel tonight at 10 - I think he is funny. I am still laughing at myself for feeling so terrible about his half-brother or whatever stealing millions of dollars from him. Yes, it is bad, but my sister would be hard-put to be able to steal $300 from ME, it sorta CMSU, the scale of it. I don't know if actual hate is involved with my feelings for, say, Conan. Distaste and immediate channel-changing does occur, and I would not care to share a meal with him. Not that the opportunity would come up. Buble - he has a pleasantly even voice, and I love the songs he sings. But - for me, he is a pale imitation of Sinatra. No resonance or darkness or something, hard to explain. Sort of like he is the Jack Jones of this generation of that genre - pleasant, very successful, not The Star. So I just listen to Sinatra. yep!!!!! I hear ya about the later years - and that ridiculous (IMO) scooby-dooby-doo in Strangers in the Night caused me to just not ever listen to it. Plus daughter Nancy can't carry a tune in a big old bucket. But I adore the early Sinatra. And Dean Martin. Never cared for Sammy Davis Jr., too overwrought for me. I wish Bobby Darin was still with us; I loved him as much as I loved Sinatra.
  23. I agree there! But to me those people have not got much to do with politics and other people, just hate. They are not criticizing the government, they have zeroed in on a person, or a party, they have no substance. What is really crippling is the attitude that all the tenets of the two major parties in the U.S. are totally opposite, on such disparate things as taxes and wars and gay marriage and what to do with the poor or unemployed. No middle ground, it seems.
