  1. lilyshine I think I must be the same generation as you are, my mother born in 1918, and the Anne books were very popular when I was a girl. My mother had kept my girlhood books and gave me the Anne and Emily books on a recent visit. Maybe my grand daughters will be intersted in reading them some day. I loved the Emily books and there is an Emily television series running on the Vision channel here. Another L.M. Montgomery book that is still a favourite of mine is Blue Castle. Colleen McCullough the Australian author was accused of plagiarizing it in her novel the Ladies of Missalonghi. Anne is very popular in Japan where there is a whole Anne industry, even Anne manga books.
  2. Have a great trip Scarlett and K'Andre and please send us news of your adventures. I just got back from seeing Mama Mia with a couple of friends and I'm so glad that I did. I really enjoyed it and laughter is so good for the spirit...I felt quite light by the end. It didn't matter one bit to me that Pierce Brosman's voice isn't the best.
  3. Reading about the London Cluncheon, I so wish I could have been there, I really miss being able to talk enthusiastically about Clay with women who understand. A while ago I read this on the TWoP commentary on AI2, saved it and it seems pretty appropriate now. Erin was Clay Aiken's "biggest fan" chosen from the audience to answer questions about Clay.
  4. Ansamcw As has been pointed out he has said in the past that he want to be married but I think it is more likely that Jaymes doesn't. She has more experience of the world and perhaps the age gap of 21 years will seem much more significant at 49 and 70, than at 29 and 50. While I know that the average life span of celebrities marriages is not that long, IMO once Clay makes that commitment he will stick by it. Bella19 Even after 57 years in Canada I still have a slight British accent but when I visited relatives in England they thought I sounded like a Yank (their term).
  5. I'm glad that Clay is doing Spamalot again, fun for him and a way to be close to Parker. But there is no way I can get to NY again during that time...if it had been the same time frame as this year I think I would or if I lived in Southern Ontario. A drive through upstate New York in October would be lovely. from snowluv4 at CV: Quote: "On My Way Here" on compilation album 'Super Hero' for Olympics in Korea This is the article Quote: The multinational music label Sony BMG and MBC jointly released the album 'Super Hero'to give tribute to Korean players and to wish their best performances on the Olympics. 19 famous pop stars including American Idol season2 runner-up Clay Aiken, 2007 Grammy winner John Mayer, Scorpions,Alan Parsons Projet,Backstreet Boys gave their songs to 'Super Hero' album wishing luck to Korean team who participate in 2008 Beijing Olympics. Sony/BMG executives said, "In order to find appropriate songs for the Olympics, we have gotten recommendations for songs from online users who love pop and executives from major label under Sony/BMG around the world for a long time.In that process,19 famous artists allowed their songs to be featured in this album" explaining how the songs were put together for the album. He added "Therefore, this album is meaningful as artists from all around the world tribute their songs for Korean team. There are many excellent pieces in the album so I dare say that this is the best compilation album yet." In this 'Super Hero' album, Clay Aiken's 'On My Way Here',already used in the promo for MBC Olympics broadcasting, BSB's "Something that I already know', John Mayer's 'Say',Scorpions' 'The game of life', Alan Parsons Project's 'Sirius' are included. Sirius (Alan Parsons Project) and this was the message from Sony/BMG Korea guy who takes charge of Clay since this June.(Clearly he works his butt off) It was written at the end of July but I didn't post it until it is confirmed. Quote: Clay Aiken's songs are played on MBC TV program many times recently.. However,it is just a start. From August 8 when the Beijing Olympics starts, we decided to play Clay's song in highlight scenes on MBC. Also, jointly with MBC, we will release compilation album "Super Hero" which will include On My Way Here. In foreign countries, Broadcast stations should pay for the songs they play in promos or TV programs. However, Korea's municiap law allows relatively free use of the songs so the songs can have more exposures. Keep paying attention to these, and I hope this to be an opportunity for "Victorious Clay Aiken" Please spread the word about Clay and kindly answer to people who asks about the song used in the Olympics! 6. Can you stand a break from all the baby talk and read something more on the media? There is an interesting article in the Huffington Post on the way in which John Edward's affair is being reported. Catching the Wrong John I liked this excerpt from it. "My guess is that media enthusiasm for sex scandals would drop within days of the first report (replete with photos) on the sexual indiscretions of a television news anchor or reporter, and that the kind of rationalizations we have heard for two decades---"we had to cover it because the newspaper that brought you 'Woman Gives Birth to Four-Headed Reptile" was covering it -- would disappear as fast as you can say "zip it."
  7. Nope, sure didn't, Cotton...but do we know for sure that Jaymes did? Unless there really was some dire reason to have one, she probably could have it naturally, I'd think. I mean, I know she's "of an age" but who knows? She might be as healthy as a horse... heh. horse.... That makes me think of stallion.... You know I think it is pretty safe to say that Jaymes had a C-section. I don't think having the baby be born on 8/8/08 was unplanned, delivering a first child at age 50 is very highly risky. I cannot see that either Jaymes or Clay would be willing to take that risk and also the medical staff would strongly recommend a C-section. Also the way Jaymes got out of that wheel chair makes me think that she has to have had surgery. Just think, if you are finally going to have a baby after (presumably) wanting one for years and knowing that the eyes of the "celebrity media" will be on you are you going to take even the slightest risk that something might go wrong with a vaginal delivery?
  8. After reading here about hateful and judgmental posts on some fan boards, I am glad that I read just here, at CH, CV and LBFCA, occasionally at OFC and GCA. And I'm lucky that I have not come across the ones that you are referring to. I was 14 when Eisenhower had to send troops into Little Rock Arkansas to protect 9 students being integrated into school. We didn't have television but we did get the daily newspaper and I have never forgotten the expressions of hatred on the distorted faces of the women screaming at those children. It came as a total shock and disappointment to me that women could behave in such a way. But since then, although I find hateful behaviour by women disappointing, I am not surprised by it. If only the adherents to the major religions of this world all tried their best to live up to the basic tenets of those religions. playbiller..thanks for posting the Leno clip...the look on Clay's face after he said "I think I'm going to do the extended version later, maybe" now makes sense.
  9. I have to admit that this announcement did come as a surprise to me but on further thought I realize that the best way to protect Jaymes and the babe in her last trimester would be to have them in NC. So Clay is a daddy at last...how wonderful for him that he and Jaymes have a healthy son. It will be interesting to see if having the baby the day of the start of the Olympics will ensure that the media interest will be short lived. cindilu At least the last Jaymes and Clay pictures I saw have a better photo of Jaymes. edited to correct date of birth.....back to sanding, staining and polyurethaning kitchen cabinets...I think the fumes have addled me.
  10. Clay Aiken Welcomes a Son This piece has a very good photo of Clay and quotes Clay's blog, posting a link that takes you directly to it. They just had to add: "Though they are not romantically linked, Clay and Jaymes plan to raise the child together."
  11. I just had the most stress free ticket buying experience.* For those of you who listen to CBC, Stuart McLean's Vinyl Cafe Christmas Concert is coming to Vancouver and I just got tickets for it. My daughter is thrilled, we'll be part of the studio audience. The Vinyl Cafe shows are available free on ITunes or by going to CBC podcasts. *This might give the impression that I have had a lot of experience buying tickets on line...I haven't and I have been fortunate enough that for the 3 Clay concerts I have seen someone else braved Ticketmaster. Clay content...I would welcome the ticket buying fray now...just to know that I would be seeing and hearing him again in a few months.
  12. Agreed...Long Island AIW is my favourite. That whole concert where he is fighting the vertigo he sang so beautifully. Cotton He looks so cute in that tank shirt. Though I can't see him walking around Raleigh in a tank shirt now, a light cotton shirt with top 3 buttons undone and no undershirt...yes....sigh. ivy Funny how that happens..I think I will watch just one video of Clay and before I know it 2 hours have sped by and I can barely keep my eyes open. I just wish that viewing videos of Clay before going to bed led to sweet dreams...at least sweet dreams that I would remember in the morning.
  13. I suspect that the only people who will find it funny will be us, his fans. IIINT I do not expect any retractions in any of those magazines nor any late nite "comics" saying Whoops...we made a mistake. That's not how it works.
  14. Oil does wear out and is not as effective in lubricating the engine...so check when you last had an oil change and figure out how many miles you've driven since then check the manual. ok so you hate checking the manual...when you get the oil changed get them to put a sticker in your car with the mileage at the time of the change...then maybe you could get them to tell you how often you need to change the oil and mark that down on the sticker. But you really should check your oil level or get an attendant at a full service gas station to do it. luckiest1 Please do. jmh123
  15. O poop...I have used that a few times in the past, actually the distant past, but I guess it's a feature they didn't want to pay for any more. I do hardly ever use BCAA any more but have always thought of it as insurance. When I owned my first car and actually all the vehicles I owned until my kids were grown and left home and I could afford a better cars...they all tended to break down and BCAA came to my rescue so many times.
  16. I have been using Firefox since it first came out because of the security problems associated with Internet Explorer. I much prefer it to IE and you can get some pretty neat add-ons including a really good and fast download engine. Claygary it does seem unreasonable that CAA would only tow for 10 miles in Alberta..have you tried calling them and getting further clarification. Here they will tow to the nearest service station and in the past the local BCAA person for a few extra bucks would tow it further. One of the perks of having a membership is that if you are in someone else's car and it breaks down you can use your membership to help the vehicle owner. This happened when I was with a relative in the Lake District in England and my BCAA membership covered the cost of towing the car from a little back road all the way to the nearest Volvo dealership! I get daily notification from Kim Komando on a cool site of the day and today it is Where the Locals Eat At The featured city today is Raleigh-Durham. And for you dog lovers a video on an amazing Texan dog. Forgive me if you have seen this before . Skidboots I have found that my ears hurt when Angela hits her high notes but have assumed that it was part of the problem I have of some hearing loss. I notice that I find high voices irritating in a way that they didn't when I was younger. I must listen to Angela's Listen again now that I have just gotten one of those amazing little digital hearing aids...see if I can tolerate those high notes. Scarlett...have you asked around for recommendations for a good mechanic in Houston, other than here? Having your oil down to 27% is a little scary. How old is your car? Do you know how to check your oil? I almost ruined my engine because of a slow oil leak. My brother was totally disgusted with me that I wasn't checking the oil regularly. Look in the manual that comes with your car and it will tell you how often the oil and filter should be changed as well as other maintenance.
  17. Well that was pretty funny...I answered the questions with Clay in mind and it came up with "honk if you crave a soul mate" !!
  18. Sometimes when I feel sad what makes me feel better is watching Afleck's Series Opener to her Road to Independence. The combination of the music, Circle of Life, and the images of Clay's triumphant progress from babyhood to The Independent Tour does it for me. I love SYTYCD and am amazed at the skill of these young people for someone to learn a dance that is completely outside what they usually do in so short a time and to dance it so well. All of the couples dances tonite were excellent and so entertaining. I thought the choice would be hard until I watched them again. The emotion of TITN...I've been waiting forever for this...it's gotta be TITN.
  19. cindilu..love the banner KAndre I so enjoyed the latest installment of your SF trip. Snort! All this talk of wine..my daughter turned me on to Shiraz 5 years ago and I found myself buying Yellow Tail Shiraz...it was so popular at the time that it would sell out in no time. Now the cost of a bottle of wine here is about double what it was south of the border and I realized that there was a cheaper way to get my Shiraz hit and so started making it at the local U-Brew and wine store for a fraction of the price. Since then I have made Merlot, Cabernet Sauvingnon, Brunello as well and for the summer a very nice white wine called Pacific Quartet which was so good right at bottling that I made another batch so that I can save it to try at 6, 12 and 18 months. Altho' I doubt that my palate is sophisticated enough to be able to distinguish all the notes they tell me will be revealed at those times. Quite a difference from the wine drinking of my youth when cheap Chianti was the wine of choice...you got to get a great candle holder but oh boy that stuff was sour. You'll probably have to get in line! Thanks for posting this. They are my favourites also and I think it's pretty obvious how much the judges love them. luckiest1 I just looked at the Paul McCartney photos and I have to say that I would have totally freaked out being in such a crush of people...I am filled with admiration.
  20. I woke up this morning at 430! Arghh! and can't get back to sleep so after reading here I went over to CH and read this by jojoma. Sums up what I've been feeling lately. (bolding mine) Ah Fabric. What I've noticed is that their are fewer fabric stores. The one in my community is almost entirely devoted to quilting. And it is harder to find lovely fabrics for clothing. I used to sew special clothes for my children as well as clothes for myself but not any longer but that doesn't seem to stop me from buying fabric. And beads..love them and have been collecting them for a the last 4 years ever since a beading friend took me off to Tacoma to a Bead Festival. A couple of weeks ago we went to the Puget Sound Bead Festival where I took a workshop in working with wire. It was so much fun and I came home with a pair of earrings, a couple of bracelets and a pendant I had made. So logically I need to take some of this time left free by the absence of Clay to create something. Time to find the Joy elsewhere tho' nothing compares to him.
  21. Thanks for posting this Bella19 I do donate monthly to UNICEF but since I am a member of the Zombie Horde (TM LBFCA?) when it comes to Clay's requests for UNICEF donations...he commands, I obey, I do donate to UNICEF USA when he asks me to. But I did get a tax receipt, can't remember if it was e-mailed to me or if just printed it off the UNICEF USA webpage and I included it in my charitable donations when I e-filed my income tax form. So far no problem.
  22. Since the baby will be well-cared for; I hope if people do feel the need to "gift"; perhaps it would be more beneficial to make a gift to a local hospital, charity, etc.... Kim Yep...I'm telling you, celebrities don't need stuff like this. They have enough and more than they could ever use. When the "news" first broke re the baby, I had an image of Jaymes being inundated with hand knit and crocheted gifts for the baby and I shuddered. Too right celebrities have enough and I hope that the urge to give will translate to donating to groups that benefit children in need. One group that does a great deal with AIDS orphans in Africa being raised by their grandmothers is the group founded by Stephen Lewis who was once Canada's ambassador to the UN and it does so with minimal overhead costs. Grandmothers To Grandmothers
  23. Caroline Clay Thank you. FromClaygary What lovely bracelets, thanks for showing them to us. "I honestly think (Season 2 runner-up) Clay Aiken has changed this competition forever.... It's becoming incredibly personality led now," Cowell said — explaining Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks." Simon makes absolutely no sense. Does he forget that Clay was the runner-up and that the winner tho' a sweet and velvety teddy bear with a good voice IMO showed hardly any personality.
