Oversinging, oversinging...I don't have a problem with 'oversinging' if its a stylistic choice...lay the bombast on me. Too much 'subtle' will come across as 'boring' and lacking in emotion a lot of times for me.

I just didn't like The Prayer. Sort of like how I'm not fond of Emmanuel. They don't give me the intensity of emotion I need to appreciate a softer, less melismatic performance.

I like the rankings....though I feel messy and think the lowest and/or highest level should be like customer/fan/target demographic...

Intern

A&R/Scout

SR VP of Sales & Marketing or whatever

Chariman & CEO

Board of Directors

Awww and here I was sooooo hoping, and aspiring, to become Clive Davis. Waaaah!!! He neeeeds to be at the top because he is the task master and has the final decision in Clay's career. I just wanna be him sooooo much. :cryingwlaughter:

I think assistant and intern both could go. I like this idea better than the smutty ones. Now, I know that is going to shock a few people. Cause Clayzor loooooves her smut and Waldo. But, I like the subtle snark factor insinuated in couchie's original idea. *g*

luckiest1 that is a beautiful Church in Kansas City. Heck if Clay wants church venues then he should consider The First Baptist Church of Springdale, Arkansas. It is the largest church in our state. With it's sister church, at the prestigious Pinnacle Hills Country Club area in Rogers, their combined membership is 14,000. It's a very large and beautiful church. I couldn't find a photo of it in my quick search this morning. Yes, can't you see the heads exploding already? :cryingwlaughter:

Actually, I have been thinking his next cd will be all gospel music............... :whistling-1:

Well according to someone, mainstream artists perform there. I can understand some having a problem with it but there will be no blindsiding and I think that was a major issue before. There are crosses out front. Just don't go to that venue. But will we be able to do Clay there I wonder. I did Clay at a church in Kasas City and ...? LOL.

But I guess expanding his demograhics takes on new meaning today.

Keep those suggestions for the rankings coming....I'll incorporate them in and churn out something tonight.

Muski...LOL..you silly woman! and I't so interesting to be in your stream of consciousness head.

Clayzor...I'd like a gospel album one of these days but hopefully not next one...maybe later.

Ah The Prayer...

I have loved this song ever since I watched the movie Quest for Camelot and I have tons of versions of this...Bocelli, groban, Charlotte Church, Celine...I have heard the solo and duet versions...I always wanted Clay to sing it. I understand what y'all are saying but I just don;t agree... I really loved his version precisely because he didn't try to do classical placement...he stayed true to himself and sang a pop version. yes there were some notes that was oversung...but there were moments in this performance that was achingly beautiful for me. I do agree in a way that Clay and Quiana didn't quite blend but I think its because of the recording. I do want to hear him sing this song on his own...with a bit more rehearsals.

I am admittedly behind in the conversation, but have to say this... I was there and in person? This was beautiful. Gorgeous. Mesmerizing. Maybe watching his face as he sang it made me hear it differently. Dunno. But it was beautiful.

The Church venue? I don't see the big whoop, but then I didn't get the outrage over YWT either. Clay's singing - I'm there. And it has nice jumbotrons. Heheh.

ETA: eeeeeeeeeee!!! I am just thrilled to bits to see the pin 'for real'. Can't wait to have one!

For those hiding out in main... the pin will be ready to go on sale by morning. I just have to finish the order page.

Don't worry Play..I'll take orders for at least 5 days before ordering so I can figure out how many to order and then from there I'll sell until they're gone and even after that I'll have extras...so no worries.

Ultimate Shoe Tyer?

I see where your one track mind is today.

I don't think the venue will be such a big thing because people can decide in advance whether they want to attend. I do remember those photos from Stephen Curtis Jackson concert (is that his name?) and there were a ton of young people there. In the front LOL. It was so differenent from what Clay is used to. Hell maybe this is one way to grab some youngsters. But this venue also just seems like a place that rents for profit. I'm sure they don't rent to anyone but even when he is being bawdy he is still pretty PG. That's one night of cellcerting I won't miss.

I am so going to hell.

I looked on the Wichita venue site and saw that on Dec. 7 Veggietales is the featured show. Here's a picture.

Oh, do click...Forget the naughty dancing candy corn.

I'm sorry. I know. I can't seem to help it.

Okay. I'll go to work now.

I checked the driving time in my Rand McNally. I'll be able to make Witchita in 10 hours (give or take). Since I was planning on being in Kalamazoo on the 30th, I guess I see a road trip in my future. Fancy that! Somehow I see Clay subltly (at the very least) snarking on the fact that it is a church. It should be a great venue for sight and sound, and provide a wonderful backdrop for the Christmas music. It would be nice if God doesn't get upset about sharing the worship that night....shouldn't be a problem considering it's a Monday.....but I'd hate for the mics to suddenly switch off or something. Come to think of it, I might not have a road trip after all....I'll likely be a pillar of salt by the second song.

So much for puddles of goo....

I wonder if there'll be a church member presale?

muski, I think you're craving a salad.

Indeed. Lettuce pray. Talk about dangling a carrot as an enticement. Talk about your cobs of corn. Talk about leaving off the dressing...talk about...

Just jumping in quickly to say I have definite problems with Clay giving a concert in a church - especially this one - because it means purposefully or not he, and all attendees, are financially supporting this church and their views and that is something I for one cannot do. If I know a company supports causes I do not believe in, I do not give them any of my money. Its bad enough my tax dollars go to things I cannot and do not support (especially lately), but since I am not so committed that I am willing to go to jail I have no choice!

This part of a post from Eeyore at the CH sums up my feelings exactly. If I could, I would WORD! her.

This particular church in Wichita is very clearly anti-choice and I imagine they may be against gay marriage as well. If my money is going to be funneled into any of these causes (or even the cause on their homepage which says they want to connect the "unconnected" to Christ), I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror the next morning.

And it's not that anyone has to agree with me; I just need to do what I feel is right for my own conscience.

Clay can sing in as many churches as he pleases, but I'll have to pass up each of those opportunities to listen to him. *sigh*

I was offended by YWT - anyone who knows me knows that - but on principle I have no problem with his performing a Christmas concert in a church. It is Christmas after all! But a church like this with beliefs so opposite of my own is not getting my money. IMO, if Clay wants to perform in churches he should be more careful with the churches he wants us to support monetarily.

Now Kalamazoo I want to go to. No idea if I can but I so want to so I can take a trip back to my childhood! I wonder if the Unitarian church there where I learned to make terrariums in Sunday school is still there??? That was as close to religion as I ever got!

I respect that those who are against the idea just won't attend, and of course that's everyone's perogative. But I don't think that Clay should necessarily have to research the politics and beliefs of every venue he plays (regardless if it's a church or a casino or something in between). If the venue fits the concert specifications - seating capacity, stage size, etc - that's all that should matter, IMO. When I spend my hard earned $$ on a Clay concert, I am supporting Clay, not the venue. JMO of course.

Well, you can look at it this way, perhaps he can recruit peeople tofollw him and get exposed to the ideas of inclusion - inclusion of all.

I would expect the haters to go all out - I hope the venue as forwwarned and tells these peopleto go get some help.

CG...I thought of you when I first heard Clay was going to do a concert in a church; figured you wouldn't be doing Clay there. heh. So yeah....I read their stance on abortion. Certainly wouldn't give them any of my money to support their position. Not going to Wichita, KS, anyway so it's a moot point.

Oddly, the main thing I'm hoping about this venue is that couchie's comment about the SCC concert audience is allowed to come true for Clay. That is:

I do remember those photos from Stephen Curtis Jackson concert (is that his name?) and there were a ton of young people there. In the front LOL. It was so differenent from what Clay is used to
Maybe Clay is looking forward to seeing that different array of faces in this audience.

No slings and arrows meant for any of you planning on making the trip to Wichita. I just hope that MAYBE---just MAYBE this is a concert where the first rows of rapt faces aren't the same ones. Maybe, just maybe---Clay will look out there and see new ones---young ones, old ones, men. Maybe, just maybe---he'll be doubly happy, on stage where he's always comfortable and in church where he grew up.

If I lived near Wichita, would I try to go to this concert? Interesting question. I don't know. For the pure musical experience? You betcha. I imagine the sound and overall effect is going to be amazing. But I might just decide to wait for clack here. Just let the "unconventional Clay concert goer" people fill those pews.

Hey CG, I can respect that. Everybody has to do what is right for them.

ITA. As long as "choices" aren't forced down the throat (and I guess that wouldn't make them "choices, would it?), I'm pretty cool with it.

When I spend my hard earned $$ on a Clay concert, I am supporting Clay, not the venue. JMO of course.

Again, I respect that, and I mostly agree with it. However, I'm sure there's some money that has to be funneled into the church coffers. What they do with it is their choice, and it the money went to fund something that I fundamentally disagree with as well, I'd have to think long and hard about attending. IMO it should go to pay the electric bill, not to mention the cleaning of the chairs *g*, after the Clay show. But you're totally right that Clay just can't research every place he's played either, and your bringing up the casino shows is a very good point too. Some people are morally opposed to gambling, pure and simple, and attending those shows would cause them grief. Again, as long as they aren't shoving their morality down my throat, I'm cool.

But in the end, I think muski has hit upon what I foresee as the main bugaboo for me in this:

Not going to Wichita, KS, anyway so it's a moot point.

I get the feeling that most of the people who will be getting their panties in a bunch about this are people who probably wouldn't consider going to this show in the first place anyway, because of logistics. I am speculating on their part (bad idea, I know) that they feel this ONE show sets a precedent -- that there's going to be more shows at churches during this tour. We know this how? I'm just gonna say that I need some more information first before I start speculating where all his shows will take place this year.

LOVE this, and I said something similar to this in an email this morning. While the location of this show might turn some of the fans away, it also might bring in different fans -- heh, like that younger demographic. Thing is, it's not my choice to decide what demographic he's going for. *shrug*

In the meantime....

FCA Chat

Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2, 9:00 - 11:00 EDT

Come for one or both nights -- heck, come for only 5 minutes is that's all you can do with your busy schedule!

Ansa, couchie and I have set up a tentative schedule for the two chats. Yes, there's a LOT of topics -- the plan is a "quick burst" approach, no more than 20 -30 minutes per topic (shorter if the conversation stalls). Therefore, here are the topics, so that anyone can formulate their posts ahead of time....

Night one, Friday night:

1) ATDW and the PR campaign -- what worked? What didn't? What else could have been done?

2) RCA/Clive/Roger -- what do you think is the relationship between them and Clay?

3) What do you think is Clay's "musical direction?"

4) The next album -- what? When? Where? How? Why?

5) The Upcoming Tour -- what songs will he sing? Who will be with him besides the orchestra? What will the musical arrangements be like?

6) What is Clay's market demographic at the moment? What do you think should be Clay's market demographic? How can any of this demographics be expanded?

Night two, Saturday night:

1) Why do you think people (both fans and non-fans) find Clay's sexuality such a fascinating topic?

2) What's the best way to deal with "gnats?"

3) Clay and the American Idol franchise -- how much of an influence does it still have on his career?

4) How has your fandom evolved in the past 3 years?

5) Why are people so fascinated with Clay's hair?

6) The fans: should they be involved in Clay's career? If so, how much? If not, why?

The thread for the chat is here; however, I've locked the thread for now. It will open up again about an hour before the scheduled chat begins. If you have any questions, please let any of the admins know!
