Lyrics to me are not important as long as the music arrangement and the vocals are good. A song played here on the radio this summer all the time is Beautiful Girl by Sean Kingston. I turn the station everytime it comes on because I cannot listen to his voice. It is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I also like ATD but more so the live version then the recorded version. I love watching Clay perform this song.

The way I post, instead of just lurking, I will be a dog walker forever. Manly the reason is I feel that I am not very articulate.

Bah. You're just as articulate as any of us. I know what you mean too...it's overall sound first... if I can't stand the basic sound... off it goes! And I agree... the live version is much better to me. I like the JBT version of it more than anything. And I really like it... I was disappointed in Toronto when he sang TRD instead. Even though I ended up liking TRD, I was so excited and then it didn't happen. Wah. Hee. I got over it tho, obviously. I think I'll go watch me some JBT ATD right now! Scarlett Toledo oughta do it.

I have no clue whether I'm a lyric person or a melody person or a .... fill in the blank person. I think I go back and forth. Often something about a song will hook me... like the attack of the violins in WISYS and I will listen to the whole song waiting for that part. I am so-so about ATD, but will listen to the whole song to hear the bridge and last verse. Songs I love EVERYTHING about are Clay's Broken Wings and in second place is Everything I do in that Celtic style. Oh, and I Know How The River Feels... GAH!

Ooo, me likey Broken Wings... it's the only song I've really looped on the CD. I just love it!

I LOVE THE not-paisley, not-fugly jacket!!! Hee.

I found this from Rainlover at CB:

http://www.bobbydarin.net/bobbyssong1.html

Scroll Down to Dream Lover! Kinda Neat. Of all the people who sang it they chose Clay's version

One of the best Dream Lovers besides Bobby Darin's.

I noticed no one has re-recorded Mac the Knife. I just finished reading Dream Lover written by Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee's son. They were both really screwed up. Both their stories are pretty sad.

A little trivia..Bobby saw Wayne Newton singing in a club and they became friends. Bobby gave Danke Schoen to Wayne Newton to record and that put him on the map. I'm glad he was voted off Dancing with the stars tonight instead of someone who can actually dance.

Alrighty now! That picture of Clay was clear enough for me to see the Royal Bangs!!!! Looooong-down-in-his-eyes bangs just like I love them. Hot freakin' bangs! I'll try to calm down now.

Ah, but there is a fine line between the bangs being toooooooooo long and toooooooooooo short and just right.

As evidence (IMO ;) )

These are a wee too short....

I don't need to agree with people all the time, but I wish that instead of just saying that something is not liked it is explained. I am interested in why people believe lyrics are banal, I liketo try and see things from other people's view points even if I don't state it clearly. I never got symbolism and struggled through my advanced literature classes in college, but the professors could see that I was trying and they knew I was a math major, so they usually cut me some slack for trying. I just really need things laid out in an obvious fashion.

Oh, I sucked at those classes too.

I love ATD because in Toledo Clay looked so damn gorgeous singing it. Hee. And I like that he's fighting the angels ... to me the song is like he's at the bedside of his loved one who's dying and he's not going to let it happen, dammit. 1000 days isn't enough, so don't even try to die on me... if those angels come, I'm fighting them cuz those bitches oughta know... I.am.not giving up on you!

I don't know what the spinnin' ball thing is... he's dizzy in love... Heh! Aren't ya'll glad I don't write any fic??! :imgtongue:

Hee.

Grrrr... does anyone know why I can't Alt+PrintScreen in WMP anymore? WAH! I wanted to post a 3:13 Toledo Scarlett ATD screencap.

I love all those Clays in the banner, Cindilu! Pretty darn cute!

Well, I have mentioned a few times that my inspiration for this topic was a disagreement with Fear. I listened to what she objected to and decided to change the way I state things when my head is working properly. Instead of calling Clay slob, I might comment on his sloppy dress. or a food stain. It is like someone I knew who called her pre-teen daughter a liar all the time, eventually the girl decided telling the truth didn't matter anymore. So the idea is not to comdemn a person with a title, or a box for them to sit in, but to identify the action or condition.

I love ATD, Claygasm, and I'm not the least bit offended that you find my taste trite or banal. Hee. Kidding. Seriously, you don't have to defend yourself to me as a fan, or explain yourself or your intentions. You hate the song. Big whoop. You sure don't need to defend your "true fan"ness over it.

I don't need to agree with people all the time, but I wish that instead of just saying that something is not liked it is explained. One of these days, play, I will try and sit down and write why I find the lyrics banal and trite. But I also have to add that its not JUST the lyrics. I also find the melody droning. I do like the bridge.....

I am sure you will all wait with baited breath for my deep analysis of ATD! :cryingwlaughter:

(I am also willing to do a deep analysis of how Clay looked while singing ATD - concert by concert..... :hubbahubba: )

Can you do Toledo first?

:cryingwlaughter:

Hey, KF... I like that Quinn, The Eskimo song... I had no idea that was Dylan either. (Hell, Julie London sang that too!??!) I couldn't tell you what the lyrics are, but I could sing along with the whole thing if it was playing. Weird. I confess I don't like Dylan because I saw him in concert once and he was bitchy and bored. It skewed my perception of him and I could never go back. Maybe I'll give it another try tho.

Grrrr... does anyone know why I can't Alt+PrintScreen in WMP anymore? WAH! I wanted to post a 3:13 Toledo Scarlett ATD screencap.

Quoting myself because this is.an.emergency. WTH? I can't screencap anymore? What do I change? I got a new computer and it won't capture... WAH.. HELP ME!!

zena can't seem to find time to walk her fca dogs in the light of day.....

It's awfully lonely here in the middle of the middle of the night, and not nearly as much fun when all the discussions of the day seem to have come and gone....

zena waves hopefully in the general direction of Baku at KarenEh? Hey, Karen, it's me!!!!!!! :23:

Last night, I had a bunch of quotes lined up, and one of my clever brief typical posts all set to go at the timely hour of 2 am when I decided I needed one more little emoticon. That little sucker ran off with the entire post. I figured you all could live without my opinion so I went to bed.

Tonight, I may just be blowing into the night wind, and talking to no-one in particular... but this dog walker needs to make a few marks once in awhile. :nothingtoadd:

I heard about the Blender magazine Worst Lyrics as I listened to an interview a CBC reporter did with their "top" analyst. Hee. There were some Bryan Adams lyrics that made the list too.

And just for the record, I didn't reeeeally start to hate the lyrics to A Thousand Days until I tried to write a poem with them. :langue:Banal? I dunno. But imo, certainly trite, and not a helpful adjective among them. Watching Clay sing ATD this summer tour? Loved it!!! :Thud:

I usually care very much about the lyrics of a song. The words are as important as the melody to me. My oldest son thinks all music should have no words. Bah humbug on him.

But Clay appears to be the defining factor in my becoming enamored with all manner of lyrics and music; including Yeah, Yeah,.....although OPP was a stretch. :cryingwlaughter: (not literally; figuratively, of course.)

My last word on the subject. I will state what SHOULD have been obvious, but perhaps is not to everyone.

There are quite a few songs Clay has sung I don't like.

But I LOVE Clay. I LOVE his voice, his sense of humor, his heart, his mind and the way he looks in a tight pair of jeans.

IMO, that should count for a whole lot more than not liking the lyrics to a song he has sung.

In my books, Claygasm, it counts BIG time. :F_05BL17blowkiss:

Okay, it's 2:17 am, I guess I can go to bed now. :claydreaming_ClayIzzaQt:

eta; Cindilu2, I'll really be dreaming of all the lovely Clay's in your scrumptious banner but those *&$X emoticons; cute as they are, never say exactly what one wants them too.

A blogger, "Jimmy", who is apparently James Ludwig, a current member of the Broadway company for Spamalot, posted this in his blog tonight:

I'm on the Broadway and I do shows. A lot. This is what I do. Phone rings, warm up, put on makeup and a dress, sing, and say funny things. Audiences are waning some, and Clay Aiken was auditioning the other day.

Hmm. Curiouser and curiouser.

*waves heartily at zena even though we must have totally opposite schedules*

My husband is a big Dylan fan -- he's from Minnesota (where Dylan is from too), so I think it's required by law. Anyway, I've seen Dylan once...in combination with The Brian Setzer Orchestra. It was the most surreal concert I've ever attended. The first half of the show was Setzer's group, and the stadium had cleared out the back half of the floor seating so that people who wanted to jump, jive and wail could. Second half was Dylan; all the zoot suits left, all the stoners took over. But then, Dylan had Setzers group come out to add their sound to that Dylan song that I can never remember the name: "everyone must get stoned." It was a hoot.

Verrrrrrrrdy interesting [tm Arte Johnson]. I hope he did well -- and I hope it's something that he wants to do for a few weeks/months.

play, it's taken me a while to come to this, but I'm at the point where I don't need for people to explain why they like something or not. I think part of it has to do with me simply being older, but I think part of it is also just being in this fandom. Now, let me explain why here (heh). There are some days I can tell you exactly why I like or dislike something -- but then there are just as many days where I just can't. It's a feeling I have, and feelings, IMO, are incredibly hard to explain. I also sometimes wonder if those with very analytical brains need to know the whys and wherefores, versus others who just know. Anyway, I've simply learned in this fandom that if someone wants to gush, they're gonna gush; if they're gonna be a bit critical, they're going to do that as well. People honestly just show "love" in very different fashions. If I can't stand one of the ways to show this love toward Clay, I make a choice of ignoring those types of posts, and focus on other things this person has said that makes me go "all right!!!!!" Know what I mean?

 Toledo ATD!

I like to collect favorite Clay syllables, and the firsts 'stars' from Toledo is at the top of my list! (at about :20 in the version I have). It doesn't matter that I'm not a fan of the song - seems it never does with Clay. That syllable is something special, rivaled most closely in my collection by the 'yon' in the 'yonder' from Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.

Thanks for the reminder, Scarlett. I just listened to it. :)

Interesting conversation last night and continuing this morning...I wasn't able to respond, as once again Mother Nature saved you and started up the big lightning show. Better thank her!

She's chosen this morning, to start us off with buckets of rain and gloom...so I thought I'd post some brightness in case anyone else is having the same kind of day.

Here are a few pics from my Studio Tour on the weekend:

This blogger guy might not be legit, but I still think that Clay doing this isn't out of the realm of possibility. There are a lot of 'checks' in the reasons-it-could-be-true column: It doesn't have to affect his CD work - his part in that is not a 24/7 endeavour. And most people don't tour when a CD debuts, so the timing still doesn't rule out a late summer/early fall tour. He has seen his friends/peers have successful runs (Fantasia, Frenchie, Vanessa Olivera, etc). It doesn't have to be a long-term commitment. LOTS of actors/singers do guest runs in shows. And not just 'AI' people (obviously). This is music and comedy, two things at which he is exceedingly gifted. So yeah, it's not out of the question. In my opinion, it would be wonderful.

(If this post looks familiar, it's because I wrote it on another board and am too lazy to rephrase here, lol)

Regarding lyrics- I'm a bit of an "overview" person, so for me it's about the overall sound and feel. Honestly, unless it said something shocking or really weird, it wouldn't phase me; it's a close your eyes and listen to the whole thing and see what it does for you---or not. LOL!!!

ETA- Clay was #14 on Lycos last week.

While I'm not ready to count my chickens before they are hatched (i.e. not 100% about that blogger) I definitely think it's a possibility that it could be true and Clay could have tried out for a part in Spamalot. Will CMSU if it turns out to be true, and I will definitely be making my first pilgrimage to NYC to see it. I still can't quite picture him in any of the roles, though.......

Re: Spamalot

Here's what I posted at CV . . .

Spamalot?

If it makes Clay happy, it makes me happy.

I've been wanting to go see some Broadway. We went in - '91? or '89? A long time ago. Good excuse. Even though MontyP is not my kind of humor. I think DH would love it.

And if doing something like that is a way to show RCA that he doesn't feel it necessary to crank out covers just to get an album out by a certain date, well, that's fine with me, too. Even though I'd like to have the album SOON! hee

Have a great day - off to do some shopping with

DH.

Well, before I leave for lowes - I don't NEED everything explained to me, I really just like to hear people's stories and when I have a different veiw point, I really do want to know why others think differently. I do try and explain my feelings, usually illustrated with boring stories or silly emoticons anibean_e0.gifArt-05-june.gif7.gif

Off to buy mroe stuff! Even though I was told I had enough just the day before yesterday and the store guy said I had one box too many - waste? maybe. Don't leave tiles on teh counter when I am preparing dinner.

Best quip of the day: "Tea, a drink with Janet Gray". I laughed so hard my partner came out of his office to see what was so funny!!!!

My favorite was always: "Knock, knock, knockin' on Kevin's door" but this one beats it out

Living in OC, you miss the colors of fall sometimes, tho we have a few trees that do turn. Thanks for the purdy!

I hope he does do Spamalot and I would go see him if it wasn't on the other side of the country! With Sean in the show, he'd have a pal and since he loves NY, I can see him really enjoying it. I think he wants to experience everything he can while he can.

LURVE him!

I smell like horrible coffee. Really horrible coffee. Which wasted everywhere. Including me. So now I need to stay downwind of everyone. Poot.

I am finally accepting the fact I can't go to Lincoln Center. Though there is a faint flicker of hope for a miracle, like the whole shebang is moved to Houston. That would work.

I've got Dream Lover on loop. It's making me feel better.
