Actually, they are Sable Island Horses. You can't ride them though, they are protected and no one is allowed to interfere with them. I think there is only a half dozen or so permanent residents...mostly meteorologists. In order to even go there you have to have permission from the Canadian Coast Guard.

Does your teammate work out of Halifax? I did some preliminary work on Sable (the project, not the island itself) with the Dept. of Mines (as it was known back in the day) when I worked there in the summers during college....crikey! That was about 35 years ago!

Oh, that place looks so beautiful. And I love the horses, even though *sniff* we're not allowed to ride.

Yes, my teammate works out of our office in Halifax. It's on Founder's Square, she said. We call that area our Sable location because our platforms are around Sable Island.

Topic: Cute guy was born on the year of the horse, earth horse to be specific. I think Reed's a water dog. Horses and dogs are compatible.

Getting back to Sable, I wanna go! -- definitely an addition to my bucket list. My bucket list is not really aligned with the National Geographic List because they have too many cities. While there are special ones like Jerusalem I wish there had been more representation from villages.

cindi, sorry about the link. Glad the alternative link was posted.

wandacleo, if no one has given you an mp3 by tomorrow night I'll make you one. I just had an extra long day and will be (unexpectedly) watching a play tonight so I'm going to get home v. late. And when I do, I still owe goldarngirl a clip for the 2008 CFC montage that she's been waiting on since for 3 days. *sorry!*

That was some show! It would have been great to see it and wow on the pics!!!

And that track list looks suspiciously like one of my favorite playlists! Whoever picked the songs had a difficult job (I know I wouldn't have been able to eliminate songs from so many specials) but in the end I totally agree with their choices!!! I probably even have a similar CD burned already -- 'course it didn't come with a label with THAT picture which I completely agree with as well!!! Niiiiice choices!!!

couchie, a trip to San Diego is nothing for us SoCal types. It's 2 hours, and it takes 2 hours to get anywhere down here if you hit the traffic wrong. OR I could do my new favorite thing and take the train! The bus/train combo thing to Fresno was awesome!!

:hello:Perma! My mom, grandma, aunt, and I used to take the train from Fullerton down to San Diego every summer. Good times. :)

Note to self -buy GPS. Oh and you may have to help me on the photo thang on Facebook. Haven't quite figured that out yet.

waves to PerusingOne.

ETA: cuz what's a casina..a girl casino?

How about an outing to Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa? Or, we could revisit Pala.

OK, I have a stupid question... I'm planning on trying one of the empty inkjet cartridge fundraisers here at my school, and was just wondering what to do with the check from empties4cash. As far as I understand, I send them the ink cartridges, they send me a check. I tell them to make the check payable to TBAF and then send that to TBAF with a printed version of their online form, correct?

Again, sorry if it's a stupid question. I just want to be absolutely clear on anything involving money.... :D

EDIT: Hooooooly freaking crap I hate this stupid computer! It took me ten minutes to cut/paste this question!

You can get pre-paid mailing envelopes and they send the money directly to BAF.

You need to email llearn@epix.net for information. They just sent me some plastic envelopes and I mailed the cartridges...that's all.

Ah, a'ighty. Thanks, merieeee.

ETA: Oy. Well, that's good to know. Thanks, jmh123! I'm glad I'm not going to have to handle any money. That gets rid of some worry for me.

Things have changed a bit.

PLEASE NOTE - IMPORTANT CHANGE:

There have been changes made to the way we recycle our cartridges due to the economy. If you have been recycling your cartridges using the prepaid baggie mailers, please stop using them and email me at empties4cash@hotmail.com so I can have prepaid shipping labels sent to you instead, or arrange for the shipment of one or small amounts. Please relay this message to others.

Because of the cost of shipping, the company will no longer accept the baggies as a shipping method. Instead, they are requiring that we now pack the inkjet cartridges into boxes of about 10 cartridges per box, affix one of their prepaid labels and either drop off at the nearest fedex drop off point or call fedex to do a pick up.

Empties4cash, like so many other companies, is experiencing financial issues due to the economy and has asked for our assistance with this so that the foundation will continue to receive credit for the empties.

If you have questions, please let me know. Also, please continue to hold onto your empties until you have about ten of them, then pack them in a box and ship them off. In the meantime, please contact me at empties4cash@hotmail.com with your mailing address and I will have prepaid shipping labels sent right out to you.

Thanks for your help in making this a smooth transition from baggies to shipping labels.

Linda

Thanks I never got that message. I will have to get some labels but it is going to take me forever to get 10 cartridges.

Me too with the forever. Maybe we could combine forces here at FCA.

That's a good idea because it takes me forever to hit the minimum too.

I'd help FCA out, but... I'm going to send my cartridges with the ones that I (hopefully) collect. This feels good. Positive, I guess. Plus, I'm going to have fun designing some flyers to post around campus.

It's funny, I'm in an ethics class at school and I keep flashing back to Immanuel Kant and how he talks about doing things for duty and no other reason...

ETA: Wow, that was random. Don't mind me, I'm just being all over the place tonight.

I'm off to :claydreaming_ClayIzzaQt:

I've managed to keep the flu away this season, but am working on my second cold. Headache, sore/scratchy throat, sneezing. I'd love to stay in bed tomorrow! :Imok:

ETA: Thank you, Lotus! :BlowKiss: I was just over there. He must have posted when I left! :imgtongue:

The BAF's not getting a new name, is it?

ETA: Thanks, FromClaygary, and that's exactly what I'm hoping! :praying: Of course, everybody I've talked to apparently just threw some cartridges away! Aw!

Yes, this has been talked about before, I think, by Jerry.

Clay wants a name that has some gravitas and has Inclusion in it.

It's been about 3 1/2 weeks since his surgery. How long does it take to heal from TMJ surgery?

Awwww... I like The Bubel/Aiken Foundation... although I can certainly understand the desire to have a more specific name.

ETA: Did he mention any possible contenders?

Some of the things I read says it can take up to a month or 6 weeks to heal! It is quite a "procedure".

I think he wants the BAF to stand on its own and not rely on his name. Now it is established it can do that.
