ETA: cuz what's a casina..a girl casino?

How about an outing to Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa? Or, we could revisit Pala.

I need some help. In 2 1/2 hours I'm getting on Ticketmaster to get tickets to see Leonard Cohen.

Have any of you been to a concert at GM Place in Vancouver? What are good seats there?

I love the banner.

ETA: OMG I just looked outside...there's 3" of snow on my deck!!!! WTH It's almost the end of February on the wet coast, a time when I'm usually cleaning up the garden, even planting some seeds.

Muski, maybe you can call up the people holding the Three Cups of Tea event and get an invite OR get on a wait list. I'm sorry I didn't think to put in more than 1 ticket..I'll call up lurker friend and ask her if she did. She emailed me about it.

Happy Thursday!!

Love the banner 00lsee.

Liney, Ok $42 for the entire day? That's great. Now is this a place we we can only have spinach smoothies or can we get a cocktail. :cryingwlaughter:

From Claygary, at the Roundtable, I believe it was Jerry who mentioned the possibility of a future name change for TBAF, but at the time he said it was not something immediate. He did say that the Board had found a name they liked, "Inclusion Works!" and nearly changed it last year, but decided to hold off. I believe that's correct.

That evening, someone also mentioned (and I know this was meant in a very sincere way) some things to keep in mind when speaking to people "of color".

God, you're so much nicer than I am. I'd have laid those condescending assholes bastards sonofabitches ignoramuses people low.

I'm one not to get too upset when people say something stupid. I just figure it's ignorance. I'd love to know what those things to remember were. bwah.

It's not easy to explain but their perplexedness (is there such a word?) was endearing, because they were obviously true liberals at heart. It was rather funny actually. Also, I was imagining KAndre and KF in the same room listening (we were so close to downtown Houston) and that made me ROTFL inside.

00lsee, thanks for the beautiful banner!!!

Gravitas is a touch word for me and I know exactly why. It was this article about where I work.

In the 1990s, XXXXX won notice as a skilled dealmaker when he led talks with the

Russian government to develop oil and gas fields off Sakhalin Island, an area expected to

contribute 250,000 barrels a day in new production by the end of 2006. "Russia was Rex's show,"

says Eugene Lawson, president of the U.S.–Russia Business Council, of which XXXXX is a board member.

"He's got a lot of gravitas, he's physically strong, he's a rancher—and the Russians just eat that stuff up.

And reading it as it was being passed around in the office in late March 2006 didn't help me very much either timingwise. Latin Gravitas - (from gravis "heavy") weight, heaviness; related to gravity and grave, also grieve and aggravate.

As with most things, it's just a word. He probably was intending to give TBAF an identity that people would recognize. Something like a "this is who we are, what we believe in and what we do" -- in 4 words or less. And that's not easy because "inclusion" isn't a brand, unlike names of diseases and standard causes. It needs to stand for one thing, definitely. There shouldn't be people going around saying I supported your organization because I thought it was about X while you were doing Y, gerbil wheels and "he lied to us"-cakes. At the same time, it would be worse to rename it to something like "Inclusion Works", spend a lot of time and effort to redesign forms, logos, websites, etc and then have some organization whose objective is say, trying to get Satanism recognized or "included" as a major religion, call itself the National Foundation for Inclusion and start distributing leaflets on street corners regarding "inclusion" (their definition0. And then there will be people who might protest the "usurpation" of the word because they already have something going right now with the word inclusion in it. Too many things need to be considered.

I shouldn't vent early in the morning... Don't deserve to but

:Iluvclaysbutt:

Couchie, oooh I'm not going there!

I can well imagine that Clay is NOT a good patient! Being a man and all... :hahaha: ...and with his high energy I imagine he's chafing at the bit and driving Jaymes nutso. But he sounds a bit weary and depressed, and I hate to hear that. Could very well be just me.

It must suck if he's still sore after all this time. I am not very knowledgeable about TMJ, but I know other here have mentioned having experience with it....what kind of 'procedure' might he have had? I sure hope he's feeling better soon!

Also, I was imagining KAndre and KF in the same room listening (we were so close to downtown Houston) and that made me ROTFL inside.

What makes you think KAndre and I would have had something to say? :cryingwlaughter: Yes, you would empathize first, KAndre would line them up against the wall (redneck mothers!) without hesitation, and I'd be argumentative (surprise, surprise). But before I honor any liberal credentials, I'd need some definitions -- because in the 60's one could qualify as a liberal in Houston by not pitching fast-food trash out of a moving car (which is where "Don't Mess with Texas" originated). Me? I was a full-fledged counter-culture freak, but I did know some liberals, such as the people who believed in wearing helmets on their choppers even when not mandated by law, and then those people who spat on me and my long-haired hippie boyfriend at the Hermann Park Zoo in 1969 -- they were liberal.

Hoo-ray for Scarlett transferring downtown. When's lunch, ladies? I've been wanting to try Huynh Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine. Any interest?

As for changing the name of TBAF, I'm all for it. I agree that the current name doesn't convey the mission of the foundation, and it's easily mispronounced. But I'll leave it to others to suggest a new name because my brain just doesn't operate on "pompous."

ETA: If Clay had TMJ joint replacement surgery, it sounds pretty horrific!

Scarlet glad you are having a better day.

I must tell you my grandmother who is 80 still says "colored people" funny thing though I have never witnessed her being prejudice & I have witnessed people who use the word African American being prejudice. Sometimes people are slow with certain words/terms but the intentions are in the right place.

When the little girl I nanny for was in the third grade she was in the chorus for their play. They sang an older song in which it said something about everyone in New York city being gay. She asked me if everyone in New City was gay? Had to explain that word had two meanings.

LOVE THE BANNER :)

couchie... don't know about the drinks... I'll have to check on the website. I've never been there, but I sent my DIL for some R&R and she loved it.

Glenn Ivy

I lied about admission apparently... $48 on Sat/Sun/Holiday and $35 Mon-Fri.

How about Disabliities Inclusion Foundation (DIF) for short, like make a difference. I like that!

My new name idea for BAF was Inclusive Children's Action Network -or- ICAN. To expand the focus to all, not just children, "Children" could be replaced with "Communities".

I certainly hope Clay's feeling better soon - our version, not his. I can imagine Jaymes has her hands full with a 6 month old and an impatient patient.

Heading home to do final puppy-proofing tonight before the little guy comes home with me tomorrow! :puppykiss:

Interesting. I thought from Clay's blog he meant gravitas as large or covering a wide area. He gave examples as American and National. I doubt anyone could come up with anything else in two or less words.

Complaint- I have worked most of my life including the time I was in college, but I have never worked as hard as now being a volunteer. I think my mind is just tired.

ETA Doing those darn income taxes. I was so tired i don't think I was very clear. I do feel better after dinner.

Forgot to tell you that your puppy is so cute :) what kind of dog is he/she?

My friend Robyn, has TMJ and no dental insurance. She has been on a dental school's list for over a year to try & get care for it she can afford. There are times her jaw locks up so badly that she can not speak and her boyfriend has to make her shakes for dinner.

Ooooooo....Glen Ivy!! LOVES me some Glen Ivy!!

Let's see...I was there last year. My daughter & I had to cancel our annual trek this year, because her preggie self is not allowed to do hot tubs at present.

They have done so much renovation over the years ...it is really gorgeous, and kind of like going to a high end resort rather than a day spa. I haven't personally done any of the special spa services, but my daughter has had a massage, pedicure, manicure and facial there. It's hard to get to all the special pools & stuff even without that, so there's always plenty to do, especially relax!!

They restricted the place to 16 (or 18) and up a few years ago. So there's no cannonballing into the pools.

The food is "healthy" but very good and a lot of different choices. They do have lots of smoothies, juices and teas, but they have soda, etc. as well. I'm pretty sure they have wine/wine coolers/wine spritzers, etc., but I'm not sure they have anything harder than that. I haven't really checked, because I have to drive a fair distance at the end of the day.

Let's do it!! Anyone else in SoCal in April??

I see the point in renaming the BAF. I remember when Autism Speaks bounded by the BAF in one of those Six Degree fundraisers, because their mission was obvious.

I think it's an interesting point about the term "inclusion". The term is probably NOT that well known in this context by a lot of people.

My DD teaches the deaf & hard of hearing. When she started college, "mainstreaming" was still the term being used for inclusive school programs. In grad school they used "bi-lingual, bi-cultural environment" as the proper terminology. Now, her students are in "inclusive" classes. Who knows what it will be in 5 years.

Maybe it's better to focus on the idea of "Abilities" instead.

Back to work. Darn.

The OFC has the new membership renewal info up. You have to sign out and it's in Fan HQ.

There's no mention of meet & greets or presale tickets...unless I missed it somehow. I hope this is not indicative of anything, such as no tour this year. *sigh* I'm curious to see what everyone thinks.

But they forgot to remove the 2008 disclaimer about presale tickets from the template. It's still across the bottom of the page.

ETA They also use the "C" word repeatedly, which will obviously not go over well with some fans. I used to intensely dislike being called a "Claymate" myself, but over the years I have come to terms with it. Now, I just sort of accept it. When you are a member of the Raleigh Claymates, it's sort of hard to do anything else. *shrug*

I was just thinking the same thing Tribeca. Some people, especially older ones, don't know the "PC" terms but still have good intentions . The tricky thing is how can you tell if you don't really know the person? If you know the person well you can have a better idea of what's in their heart.

I'm renewed!

There was such complaining about the fanclub not delivering on things they offered; I am thinking this time around they were not offering as much upfront, but that doesn't mean they can't add things later. That way, less complaining and we get surprises. They can always add meet and greets and tour tickets when they need to.

That's just the power of the microwave.......if it's a fairly new microwave, you should be ok to assume 1000 watts. If it doesn't say to reduce the power to 50% or something like that I'd probably assume it means high. But what do I know? :cryingwlaughter:

I am easy. I tried at first to get the cheaper membership, did not think I needed the extras. It would not let me in, so I went into the ultimate. No problem with this one, so I continued. I will use the coffee mug, and I know my hubby will not steal it.
