Cotton -- patience, grasshopper. I'll probably do the song of the day tomorrow morning -- it's really turning out to be more of a "song of the day (plus a half)" just to give everyone a chance!

And we're going alphabetically -- and I'm not going to tell which one is next! Hee.

:P

Clay Aiken Embraces Another Nation

Clay Aiken believes that Somalia's children need a better future.

"There hasn't been much discussion of Somalia since the early 1990s in the U.S.," the UNICEF goodwill ambassador said Wednesday, speaking from the northern outpost of Somaliland in the East African nation.

"The American population kind of got a bad taste of Somalia in the early '90s and hasn't really had much interest in the country since."

Aiken pointed out that, while Somaliland, which declared its independence in 1960 (but hasn't yet been officially recognized as a separate country) is relatively peaceful, those living in poverty-stricken southern Somalia are still suffering the debilitating effects of a civil conflict that began with the overthrow of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.

Most recently, a flareup between an Islamist insurgency and the Ethiopian-backed Somali government has killed thousands over the past year.

"It's the most dangerous place for a child to be," Aiken said. "In the lower part of the country, southern part, I feel it's a more desperate situation than any place we've ever been."

"In Somaliland, you really do have a sense of people who really want to help themselves, who want to do better, who want to effect change for themselves, that is very hopeful."

The pop star, who was appointed a UNICEF ambassador in 2004, also traveled to war-torn Afghanistan last year, where he visited various schools, a health clinic, a women's literacy center, a program for reintegrating former child soldiers into society and water and sanitation centers.

In Somalia, UNICEF has, among other things, teamed with local organizations to establish programs for treating malnourished children, set up temporary classrooms for more than 7,000 kids whose lives were affected by the ongoing violence and instigated a cleanup campaign to improve water and sanitation facilities with methods ranging from handing out more bars of soap to extending the country's water pipelines.

Are pigs flying? EOnline reporting something positive about Clay!

I'll be having an MRI of my lumbar spine on Thursday evening after working all day. Maybe that will be good - I'll be too tired to fidget after being at work all day! Anyway, I don't think they'll find much on the MRI. I think the cause of my sciatica is piriformis syndrome rather than a lumbar spine issue. Piriformis syndrome is an impingement of the sciatic nerve by a tight or scarred piriformis muscle. I'm working with a physical therapist and doing some stretching exercises to see if we can reduce my pain level.

Been busy getting the house back to semi-normal after our fire. Walls are washed, carpets cleaned and I think we're ok. I've popped in a few times to try to keep caught up, but no time to post.

I have horrible sciatica. It's gotten to the point where my leg starts to go numb. I saw a doctor years ago and she told me it was nothing, but at that time I didn't have the numbness. Now, I can't find a doctor to get an initial diagnosis. The specialists require a referral, which I already knew...but it's getting in to see someone to refer me that's a pain in the ass. (No pun intended) Our family doctor "doesn't see patients with back pain". So, I'm still looking. Thanks to all for videos and gorgeous pics!  :thankyou:

Gibby and Tijala, my sympathies!! This is what I've been struggling with as well; the pain is excruciating and debilitating, and noone who hasn't experienced it has a clue how it affects your entire life.

Tijala, have you tried a chiropractor? Normally, to be honest, I'm scared to death of them. I had a bout with one many years back that almost ruined my back for life and it put me off forevermore....until this last bout with my back. I did the Doctor route for 5 years that last time this happened, the physio route...and neither did a darn thing for me. All the doctor did was pump me full of pills to mask the pain so I could manage daily. The physio cost me thousands and thousands of dollars and didn't do a blessed thing.

The chiropractor I'm going to has turned it around so I can manage to work and do most things, in about 4 weeks....which is about 200 less than it took last time! And chiropractors don't need referrals. I would ask friends/associates in the area for recommendations and give it a try.

and PS.....FIRE????!! I missed something!! I hope everyone is alright!! What happened??!!

ETA: Scarlett....oh, I wish too! Any thoughts on how to get a really, really rich sponsor ....or a game going online?

Long explanation...the scrollbar is your friend. *g*

At age 13 I was diagnosed with double scoliosis. My spine was "s" shaped. I wore a plaster body cast that went from my neck to my hips. The first cast I wore was cut too low and I couldn't sit at a desk in school...had to stand at a podium. Anyway, I had 2 spinal fusions...my spine was completely taken apart and fused together. I spent the next 3 years in and out of a children's hospital until I turned 16. The head surgeon told my mother and me that I should never go to a chiropractor. I did in fact ask one about the possibility of him helping me and he was extremely hesitant and said he didn't really want to try it. So, that's why I can't go to a chiro.

Ahh, the fire! Being the sometimes lazy person that I am, I came in the house and put my vinyl purse on the stove in the kitchen. Apparently it was sitting on the back burner (electric stove), and the next day my daughter and GD came over. Well, GD is at that age where everything fascinates her and she turned the burner on. The smoke was just incredible! Thank God the flames didn't get the wall behind the stove. Daughter got the little one out before she inhaled too much of that smoke. The horrible thing is the smoke alarm didn't go off...DH took the battery out! Everyone is ok...the walls were pretty gunky and the place stunk to high heaven, but we're good to go now!

OK....if Houston gets a Posse and London, Ontario gets a Posse -- this is for the rest of us:

The Everyone Else Posse -- or EEP, for short.

*g*

And now, my work here is done.

Well, I certainly qualify for the EEP. My only connection to Ontario is that my father and uncle were born there...I've never been there, but I really want to go there someday.

My Houston connection is a BFF who I went to high school with. I had THE biggest crush on him. One of my daughters and another friend who ran around with us in high school made a trip down about 5 years ago and we had the best time. The only problem was that he and his wife had our entire week planned out for us...no down time whatsoever. But I loved that time so much, and I'm planning on going down again hopefully next summer.

Here I sit at home, instead of being on my way to the commuter train, since our 27 storey bldg had a very weird fire alarm this afternoon.

We have terrible communication about what's really going on during an emergency, and after waiting 25 minutes between announcements, when most of us on the 17th floor smelled burning rubber/electrical odours via the freight elevator, we boogied on out of there! It was late enough in the day that I just came home.

Since I'm here, I can post a picture of my little sweetie, Schnitzel, who is a long haired mini Dachshund - she's four, very affectionate and everyone loves her. BTW, she loved her jingle bell collar and her new toys at Christmas. :)

post-1785-1214423920_thumb.jpg

Fires are scary and I would have definitely high-tailed it out of there too. I hate that electrical burning smell. Glad you're ok!

Oh Bella, your dog is adorable! I love dogs and cats so much, but I have allergies to both. I'm allergic to all dogs except for terriers and poodles. As for cats, I'm allergic to those as well, but for some reason I can tolerate Siamese cats better than others. This is a picture of my terripoo Gizmo...she lived to be 19. We had to have her euthanized 2 years ago.

Claytonic, just adding to the begging to make your quotes a little larger, please, so that we can actually read them!

....

OK, the reason I change the font (as shown above) for the quoted text is because I saw it done in another forum and thought how much easier it was to differentiate what was what when multiple quotes were being used in one post. I'll abandon it if it is causing a problem.

As for the visually impaired, trust me, I am one of them and solved my frustration when I discovered this best kept secret:

HOLD DOWN the Crtl button

and at the same time...

scroll the wheel back and forth on your MOUSE

until you see the size of font most comfortable to you.

This feature also works in numerous other programs including MSN, Word, Gmail, etc etc. I use it all the time and now rarely need to ask someone to increase the size of their font.

claytonic - thanks for the tip!! Before I tried it, however, I was thinking that it would be fine to make the quotes in a different font (there are lots to choose from) and they would still be distinguishable!! (without making it small!) :)

:thankyou:

Tijala - I just got back from getting a really good theraputic massage. I have been having sciatica the past week or so from moving around a bunch of heavy boxes. Also with the pain down the leg and the toe numbness!! When I got home I layed down on my back for a few minutes, and felt a couple of vertibrae slip back into place. And that's Good Thing. :D Before going to a chiro, it might be a good idea to get a massage or two. The chiro can't adjust well if your muscles are all tied up in knots anyhow! :D

:hugs-1: to all who need them!!

I never thought of a massage! I may try that! Thanks for the suggestion!

Surely you remember what happened when I decorated Clay's bow with the titanium balls that Christmas... and the bells only rang when he was happy to see me!?!

THIS I gotta see! :hubbahubba::cryingwlaughter:

Do share..... :sleezy:

I'd pay good money to see this! BWAH! :cryingwlaughter:

On a lighter note:I have a question...stupid though it may be......what's all this stuff about "titanium balls" and "too tight bows"???? I'm really out of the loop on this one.

It had to do with one of the fanfics on CV. We were bored waiting for the new chapters so we entertained ourselves. I was the official bow tier (think...ClayFormal-1.gif) for Clay's concerts (Iseeme was my backup) and we used to post pics and write captions for them. For instance...

Clay_Ohhhhhhhh.jpg

"CM, if Ah've told you once, Ah've told ya a million times,

please warm up your hands before ya tie that thing on, will ya?"

Oh, I see! How about this?

"Yeah...yes....just like that, darlin'..."

OMWH_Yahoo_02_t-2.jpg

Oh dear Lord....I ALWAYS see these right before I go to bed! Nummy! :hubbahubba:

God Bless Clay in his travels. What a caring boyfriend we have! I do hope he can attend Ruben's wedding this weekend.

I'd better quit before I get schlip schlapped! :cryingwlaughter:

I do not know how to describe it but SL just hits me. I love the way he sings it. It is probably one of my favorites on the CD.

Yes, there is people not happy with his statements yesterday. I do not know one celebrity that has to take as much criticism for things he talks about as he does, especially from his fans. No wonder blogs become so infrequent. Everything he says is analized over and over.

OMG!

Scarlett!

I saw a creature you'd like this morning! Right across the street from my house!

I got a picture (not that good) and will post it when I get it uploaded, but it was a deer!! Lovely!

Sadly, Droopy was barking at the BIG DOG and when I tried to close my door (quieting the Droopy noise! hee) he bounded back through the treeline.

So one picture is through my door and the other, my camera had hazed over due to the ding dang humidity here this morning!!!

Cotton, you aksed yesterday why bother getting a Music Pass especially when you have have quality downloads already and the actual CD?

May I humbly suggest that it makes a lovely, durable bookmark. And you can't have too many of those.

I love the articles about Clay and what he has to say about Somalia. He strikes a knowledgeable and humble tone at the same time. And the shallow part of me finds his use of the term "effect change" all kinds of hot.

Sacrificial Love. I was one of the few, I believe, who adored the snippet of this song. I actually like how the snippet ends without the "that perfect face" ending. It is not so much the words but the musical impact.

Although I am not a lyric person, I do pay attention in this album because of possible association with Clay's experiences over the last few years. I remember him saying in an earlier interview that this was one of his favorite songs on the album.

Perhaps this has been discussed before, but I find it interesting how Clay has shifted the relevance of the songs as pertaining to this own experience (early in the promotion cycle) to saying it doesn't so much apply to him as to experiences people have generally (this was in the CNN interview). Perhaps he was stung by the scrutiny the songs were given to provide support for his sexual preference.

Were there any songs on the album that when you heard them made you think, wow, I bet this really speaks to Clay, no wonder he chose it.

For me it was the songs Where I Draw the Line and Lover All Alone. Maybe the latter is caused by the former.

ETA Cotton, thank you so much for bringing over that you tube. I had never seen it before. That beginning pic of Clay is him at his most handsome, IMHO.

Thanks for the chiropractor suggestion, Claygary and liney! I've been going to a very good chiro for years, and I'd be in much, much worse shape if it weren't for him. I'm trying a new Chiropractic Internist next week, though, for another opinion about how best to treat the sciatica as well as a few other niggling medical issues. He really helped my Mom and sister, so we'll see if he can help me, too!

Would love to hear anything you find out!

Totally OT, but did anybody watch SYTYCD?!

Yes!! LOVED it! Really, really, like this show~so much better than the ballroom stars one. The dancers on this show are absolutely amazing.

In the meantime - here's a great old montage by irishbookgal I found on youtube this AM.

Is that irishbookgal? Didn't think so....Whichever, it's a nice montage, and I love the song! May have to make a trip to Itunes. Thanks for dropping it off.

Tijala, thanks for the fire explanation! YIKES!! So glad it turned out OK!

Good morning.

Merrieee - thanks for the warning. I did see on another site that Ben Affleck is on GMA this morning and going to talk about his project ACROBATS! Could this have anything to do with the Clay Aiken entry on Amazon????? Oh Lordie - could he possibly have a song or two on a soundtrack??? Could this be the exciting thing that Faye was referring to on the cruise? Could this be the second wave of promo?

Sacrificial Love - this runs neck and neck with The Real Me to being my favorite song on the CD. I think it almost has a country overtone to it - especially the first line "sometimes I feel like I'm chasing the shadows....in your eyes!" Then when he sings "you tell me you're here for forever but act like you're passing through" has kind of a little bit of a twang to it. Same thing with "I see you lying beside me but I feel you're moving on!" The way he sings the word "you're" is what gives it the country flair I think! I loved this song from the Slovenian snippets. It's the one I play over and over. His vocals are pure and strong. This is definitely one I want to see and hear in concert.

Good luck at doctor's appts today! And OMG, Scoliosis sounds pretty awful. I cannot imagine being in a bodycast for all that time Tijala.

FromClaygary - we really need to chat about quilting some time. I've been teaching for about 5 years now....love it! Especially needle-turn applique!

SYTYCD was really, really good last night. I do think the cream is rising to the top though. There are about 3 couples that are just flat-out awesome. It will be interesting to see what happens when partners are split up and have to re-connect. All of these people are fantastic dancers though. Mary Murphy makes my teeth itch though. I'm sure she knows what she's doing but that screaming is soooo annoying!!!

ETA: Hah - the person that thought she heard ACROBATS in connection with Ben Affleck is now admitting she must have heard wrong. Dang-it.

I think that no matter what Clay does or say someone will find fault .always, even when least expected. But on something like this I can't imagine it's more than one or two. If there's one place that Clay Nation will rally around Clay it's for his humanitarian efforts.

Damn why am I up.

Tijala - Glad your fire is cleared up! Bet your hubby never takes the batteries out of the smoke detector again.

:PickMe-1: I'm watching SYTYCD too - love it! The kids are just amazing.

Sacrificial Love is probably my second favourite on the album, after ALAWH. It strikes a cord with me due to really old personal history.

Perhaps he was stung by the scrutiny the songs were given to provide support for his sexual preference.

If so, I don't blame him for shifting it. I do think that all these songs resonate with him somehow, someway, or else he wouldn't have picked them. But as much as I like to daydream about Clay and his life and why he might relate to a particular song, I find that most often I relate the lyrics to my own life. I find OMWH quite an emotional album to listen to. Sacrificial Love was one of my early favourites. I have downloaded 3 ringtones so far from OMWH - OMWH the song, Ashes, and Sacrificial Love. I would love to go and download 3 more.....maybe next paycheque. ;)

Other than the lyrics to Sacrificial Love, the thing that grabs me the most is the use of strings. They really, really remind me of the strings in my favourite ATDW song, Right Here Waiting. I just love them. Would love to hear this one in concert some day!

Couchie, there is a small group of people who are making noise about Clay never blogging unless he wants something from us. The implication is that they won't support his causes anymore. My feeling on it is you don't make donations to get something in return (unless you're bidding at his galas or whatever. You make donations because you want to help make a difference along with him. Hard to say what the motivation for this is other than the usual need for attention while you spew.

So thats why you were so quiet yesterday! I was worried you had another ER trip...glad you were just having fun with a bunch of 6 year olds...hee

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I always love Sacrificial love...even from the snippets.

Is this in a minor key? cos I find the melody pretty haunting, kinda reminded me of Sondheim's songs...

Love the simple piano intro and accompaniment on the first verse....I think it forces the listeners to pay attention to the lyrics...which are very mature...simple ...real...very much like a conversation. It becomes very very effective in drawing the listener into this situation that is pretty common out there.

I love the melody...the haunting quality. Very introspective, yet not really depressing. Love the instrumentation on the chorus...and LOVE the strings on the bridge...that stacato? or whatever the term is with what the strings were doing giving it a driving and intense feeling...then resolves in the piano again...very very dramatic.

What I like about the lyrics is that it depicts a very mature and straight forward handling of a pretty common relationship situation...no real need for deep analysis. Its simply a guy asking his partner...whats the deal? Actually, that kind of straight forward communication is very refreshing...no going around the bush...no living in denial. Just deal with the problem straight on and ask the hard question. It also suggests that the person singing has a high self esteem and is very strong...he wants to be treated right in a relationship and if the other person is not as committed to it...then lets just end it. Very powerful message...one that I wish a lot of people would adapt in their life situations. Cos I have seen too many people holding on to a partner even when its painfully obvious their partner is not into them...

I love Scarificial Love. Love it! I like the concept - a new one for me. The idea that someone is hanging around waiting for real love to strike is intriguing, though I'm not crazy about the term "sacrificial love" for that concept. But what I love most is that it's a beautiful waltz.

Pandora.com, who is usually really good about this stuff, doesn't get the song at all. Here's what they say:

Features Of This Song

mild rhythmic syncopation

acoustic rhythm piano

acoustic sonority

a twelve-eight time signature

use of a string ensemble

major key tonality

acoustic rhythm guitars

triple note feel

And their suggestions for similar tunes didn't do it for me. I guess it's one of a kind.

I'm sure you guys have seen this on Youtube, but if not, it's worth a look:

Yes, summer is here. It is going to be very hot and humid today. Went out this am and pulled some weeds then ran over to our DMV for my renewal of my liscened tabs(could not renew on line because they needed to see my proof of insurance). I could not believe it took only 8 minutes there, usually the line is really long. Trying to decide if I want to start any major thing before I take off for the Open. Traffic in town is getting busy, getting out of my subdivision onto the main road with a left turn is tricky.

I really want to see a picture of Clay even if we do not see video, miss the dude.

A little story. Remember when Clay was on Rachel Ray show and he mentioned a parent who would point to their young child around 7 and try to tell them who he was and he stated they did not know because they were only 2 when he was on Idol. Sunday my mom had her neice over (my mom sister their mom had passed away the day before) and they were looking for a particular song of Clay's to play at the funeral since their mom was a fan. The neices daughter is now 8, when she was around 3 she would get into the car and always say play Clay. Sunday she was at my Mom's and saw all the tapes my mom had, so my mom sent some home with her. The one thing that made her day was my mom gave her the poster I got with the K-Mart CD. She was so excited, she could not wait to put it up in her room. So, there Clay there are young people who remember you.

Has anybody posted the lyrics?

I'm sorry I'm behind! And dripping dripping dripping!

Got the front yard done - now I'm cooling off and soaking up SL!!

Sacrificial Love

Sometimes I feel like I’m chasing the shadows in your eyes

Losing my footing and looking for something that I recognize

You tell me you’re here for forever

but act like you’re passing through

Which one’s the real you?

Which one’s the real you?

Are you only practicing until you find the real thing?

Taking up space until you find yourself in that perfect face?

Are you looking over my shoulder?

Am I enough or just

Your sacrificial love?

I know when we started

I kinda talked you into this

I was good for the moment

But now something’s missing

from your kiss

I see you lying beside me

But I feel you’re moving on

Which one’s the real you?

Which one’s the real you?

Are you only practicing until you find the real thing?

Taking up space until you find yourself that perfect face?

Are you looking over my shoulder?

Am I enough or just

Your sacrificial love?

Do I have to spill my tears?

Teach you how to say goodbye?

If that’s not what I am to you

What am I?

What am I?

Are you only practicing until you find the real thing?

Taking up space until you find yourself in that perfect face?

Are you looking over my shoulder?

Am I enough or just

Your sacrificial love?

Just your sacrificial love

Thanks for posting that link Artquest..you know I really think using Clay's song for nonclay stuff is a really good thing. Believe it or not there are folks out there that love their dancing with the stars, or soap opera characters or causes as much as we love Clay. Hard to believe I know :cryingwlaughter:

These "allergies" are driving me crazy. I guess they are allergies..this is the first year I've ever had problems like this. I guess it's not unusual to take on allergies later in life because I'm also allergic to cat hair now when I didn't used to be.

I love love love this song.

Have from the first time I heard it.

(I didn’t listen to any of the snippets or any demo’s so I didn’t hear it till Clay sang it.)

I love the lyrics. I love the haunting music.

First - the lyrics . . .

I mentioned this during our listening party, but my DS is going through some uncertainty in his marriage. Five years.

I am hurting so for him and you know there’s nothing anybody can do. They have to work it out one way or the other.

But I don’t ever think about Clay’s life when I hear this. I think of DS. And I worry that he is her SL. You know - the fairy tale proposal. The Wedding Show. That was all wonderful.

But now - she’s not happy and he doesn’t know how to make her happy. Is she depressed? Or is she just not married to the right man for her?

And to make it worse- she now says she doesn’t want children.

DS loves children! Loves them! He gets that same look on his face that Clay does when he’s around kids. He gravitates towards the “kids’ table” at family reunions.

And he’s tried to get her to counseling. Tried to do more for her around the house. Tried talking with her.

It’s like they’re stuck. In some ways I think she just won’t go ahead and say it.

“Is he going to have to teach her to say goodbye?”

Artquest, I love the phrase Sacrificial Love.

I do think women sometimes “go along” with a guy who kinda talks them “inta this”, just so they can have that guy on their arm, so they can feel they have somebody. Even though they know deep down he’s not the one, they are willing to SACRIFICE his heart for their own sense of worth.

When they’re together, is she “looking over his shoulder” flirting with another man?

Does she not want children?

Or does she just not want children with HIM?

Is she just “practicing”? Playing house?

The man in Sacrificial Love - he loves her - but he’s asking himself if that’s enough. At least that what the song says to me.

ETA:

I love "chasing the shadows in your eyes, loosing my footing, looking for something I recognize" - looking for the loving he used to see when she looked at him but now it's not there and it's shaken him. *snif*

Cuz I know you're dying to hear - Music Latah!
