WOW...you are a very complex person,KAndre. That was a very informative post. :cocktail:

I love that everyone here has their own opinions and shares them freely. 'cept me, I'm staying mum. :hahaha: ( except for the Titanic/Mama Mia stuff and anything else I might blurt out without thinking.) :lilredani:

Lucky..good luck living through the renovations...seems like it's almost over.

Argh, I'm sorry I came home. I seriously should just go and stay in a hotel for the week. This is ridiculous. I didn't think it could get any worse, but it did. I guess that's what happens when you leave the house to the contractor for the weekend. He shoved every imaginable thing into my living room, including the kitchen table, the stove and the fridge. I got home to late to watch TAR but that's ok because I can't see my TV anyways. The puppy and I have managed to climb over things to get to the couch but when this laptop battery dies I have no idea how I will get to an electrical outlet. Thank god I can go to work tomorrow where I might actually be able to find enough counter space to make a sandwich. Do we have a 'tearing my hear out' emoticon?

I draw the line at people not liking Clay.

Batshit assholes.

:cryingwlaughter::clap::hahaha: I think I love you.

True confession: I have never seen another live stage show except Spamalot once in Toronto and then Spamalot 9 times on Broadway when Clay was in it. That could change next weekend when we go to NYC because luckiestdaughter wants to see Guys and Dolls because it stars the mom from Gilmore Girls. :P

Woo hoo, cellcert on Tuesday? I hope I still have a subscription. Guess I'll find out.

I gave Better off Ted a chance because the star was on Private Practice for a few weeks and I liked him. Was disappointed to find out he had his own show so wouldn't be sticking around. That show is hilarious IMO if you just wanna laugh.

When I started this post I was going to endorse "Better Off Ted" too because I think it's pretty funny, but than I remembered all the other posts this weekend about how too many recommendations turn people off of shows - so just watch whatever the heck you want, y'all!!!! :cryingwlaughter:

we can tell them the last episode was all about "inclusion." :cryingwlaughter:

KANDRE...I bow down to the goddess hee.

I hate musicals for the most part. I've seen a lot of shows on Broadway but they're mostly drama. Sitting through Fosse was about the worst experience of my life. My friend picked the show. There are a couple that I LOVE but they are rare.

Lucky: Hugs..and no we are not going the true confession route around here. :cryingwlaughter:

Lol that I've seen more shows in Toronto than you have. Love the Royal Alexandra as a venue.

Hummuna, hummuna, hummuna! I love that shirt! (And the man inside is pretty damn too.) I don't think I've ever seen it before...

Also, I need to figure out how to quote multiple posts from multiple pages... I saw a Stubble!Clay! pic from the Tonight Show (I think), which is about the sexiest effin' stubble I think I've ever seen Clay have! Stubble=:tasty:

Here's a random aside that has nothing to do with the other random asides... I want Clay to sing "I Kissed A Girl"! :hahaha:

ETA: Are we discussing pop culture? Good, someone should explain it to me. :laugh2: I really, really don't understand pop culture aimed at my age group--what, just because we're 25 and under we're supposed to like a lack of talent as long as it isn't wearing many clothes?? Pfft to that.

Although I will also add that I don't mind talent with a lack of clothes... :sleezy:

I love dark chocolate; chocolate of any kind, but especially dark chocolate.

Dislike chick flicks and sappy love stories...if somebody recommends a movie and adds "bring tissues"...I am so not watching that movie. I hate manipulative movies and T.V. shows like Extreme Makeover; I just could never imagine doing something like that myself...I can understand people needing help, etc,.; but I just don't get doing it so publically...guess I am a pretty private person. Probably why I don't like reality shows in general...too much phoniness and manipulation.

Don't like Science Fiction but loved all the Star Wars movies...as a rule, I don't read much fiction at all except for Stephen King. I much prefer non-fiction, biographies and history.

I pretty much read whatever catches my fancy. Just recently I took 3 books out from the library. One was called 1969 and was, big surprise, about the year 1969...movies, songs...political issues...it was fascinating and sad all at the same time. Second book was called "For The Thrill of It All" and was about the Leopold/Loeb case of the 1920's in Chicago. They committed a murder just to see if they could get away with it...it was an interesting read...their motivation; the murder and the subsequent trial...they had Clarence Darrow for their lawyer and how justice really is based on how wealthy or poor you are...again, probably not something most would like to read, but I enjoy that kind of stuff...not sure what that says about me.

Third book is about the 1933 Chicago's World Fair...again history, politics, civil rights, women's rights all wrapped up in a story of a Fair held in Chicago right before the start of WWII. It was interesting to me because my Great-Grandparents went to this Fair and brought back souvenirs and several years ago my Great-Aunt gave me a set of silver forks from the Fair. So, it was something I could connect to my family and just an interesting read.

I too love Scrubs...I really love comedies...don't watch any dramas on TV...maybe it is an escape, but there is so much drama in real life that when I sit down and watch TV, I prefer situation comedies where everything gets settled in 20 minutes...although I have to say, last week I watched the Office and 30 Rock because I kept hearing how funny they were and honestly, I was bored to tears...just didn't get the funny at all.

clayzy, if you hit the little "quote" button at the end of each post you wish to quote, and then hit the "add reply" button at the bottom of your screen, all your quoted posts should be there. Then, delete out the stuff you don't want to quote, and voila!

I'm all over the map regarding what I love and what I don't. It's just my taste, and I own it. I do, however, have a problem with things being "oversold" to me, and I try not to do that, even with Clay. Gotta say I don't always succeed though -- because I would heartily recommend "Slumdog Millionaire" to anyone! I am also a firm believer in trying things more than once. I found it frustrating when some people listened to ATDW once and then put it away -- I found I appreciated some of the songs more the more they inhabited my consciousness!

Me too! The first time I listened to ATDW, I think I decided on BW, ATD, BYLM, and TOA as my favorites and, since I put it on my iPod, those were practically the only ones I listened to. And then I went back and started listening to it again and just about slapped myself for leaving out IWTKWLI!! Same thing happened with OMWH--I never noticed ALAWH until it popped up in my shuffle one day and it's probably my favorite now. I think there's something about not listening them just with the other songs on the CD because I sort of stop paying attention when I do that, but when it gets shuffled around to I pay more attention. Or something.

When The Office first came out, the TV station sent me a survey and there was a clip of the show for me to watch...I hated it and told them so and have never seen it since.

I have never seen 30Rock...so I haven't a clue, but it better be good the night Clay is on...or else!!!!!! :hahaha:

My hubby is watcing a movie on TV right now, so I went in to watch it with him for a moment . It's called The Asteroid...something about a gigantic asteroid heading toward earth. So, I'm watching and I'm saying things like...ok, he's dead.....well that was a stupid move.......you know that explosive is going to backfire. Well, he asked me , very politely, to go away. Don't you just hate shows that are so predictable? I feel it is my duty to add commentary when it is a lame movie. :cocktail:

I now have Dragon NaturallySpeaking and I think this will help me in doing my recaps. So far it's not making any mistakes I don't think.

This is excessively cool of course now it turns out that I should have read the directions a little better because I'm having a hard time correcting stuff. But we will see. I am going to install this on my laptop and hopefully ramble on pointlessly about Shanghai.

YAY!!! (And a bit more about Japan maybe???)

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I simply LOVED "Mystery Science Theater 3000." A show that basically did that, except with better writers than what I could provide as commentary.

I miss that show.

I agree except some chick flicks. I thought Sex and the City movie was a big yawn but loved the series on HBO. I shudder at the thought of Harry Potter and sorry to say I've never read any of the books nor tried watching the movie. Sad!

My new favorite TV show is "In Treatment" on HBO. Brendan Byrne is great as the psychiatrist.

I don't think there's any real moral value in preferences--that is, cowboy songs are probably as enjoyable and worthy as opera and hokey movies are probably as enjoyable and worthy as arthouse movies. Tastes are so subjective and based on each person's personal experience and exposure. I generally hate unhappy endings and hate slapstick. There's probably some deep hidden meaning there, but I just tend to go with what I like.

Other than fringe stuff--porn, snuff-films, etc.--I can pretty much accept that most of the world likes what I don't (and vice versa).

I draw the line at people not liking Clay.

Batshit assholes.

I agree with everything I've bolded.

What's NOT bolded,...well, I'm such a compassionate person :lilredani: that rather than look down on them and kick them to the kerb, I realise that when :dumb_people: like that, I should feel sorry for them that they are so lacking in good judgment. If they allow me to patronise them, I go hell-for-leather and bombard them with clack. If they want me to stop mentioning Clay, I obey. No pressure.

Opera.... there's opera and then there's opera. I like soft-opera. Hard-core-opera is too hard for me in terms of a theater experience. However, I love love LOVE some arias and, Fear, I also like Maria Callas, well, some of her stuff. Have you read her fascinating biography? The mingling of opera singers and styles with popular music and singers has really won over a lot of people. My view is that all music is good if it lifts your spirit and makes you feel. I had a friend a couple of decades ago who was an opera and classical music purist, and I really have no time for snobs who don't have the capacity to accept pop music just because it is popular music.

ETA: Movies

I don't like action movies at all. Don't know a thing about the Harry Potter books and movies except for what I have seen in the news and entertainment programs. . I love romantic comedies (my fav is A Touch of Class) and I also love getting lost in stories that are gut-wrenching - Secrets and Lies.

EATA: Does anyone know who is the fourth person in this pic, with Paris Hilton, Charice and Michael Buble?

Someone who has been putting together an amazing site for Charice can't figure it out and nor can I.

EYATA: Never mind, my first guess, based merely on ONE YT video I saw of her with David and Charice, was correct .... but I wasn't sure. I thought it was the GF of Parker Aiken's famous uncle and that's who it is, although I didn't know her name was Yolanda Hadid.

A Touch of Class-was that with George Segal and Glenda Jackson? I loved that movie, haven't thought about it for years.

I tend to like films that I discovered on my own. That thrill of discovery. Breaking Away, Blade Runner, Topsy Turvy, Go, Swingers, are just a few that I stumbled upon and really loved. Another film i still treasure is Crossing Delancy. And Strictly Ballroom. And Hannah and Her Sisters. I like talky films cause I am kinda talky. Oh, and Last Days of Disco, fantastic and very talky.

I love opera. I grew up with it though and I think that makes a diffence. My mother played opera all the time at our house. I didn't like it as a child but in my twenties I grew to really enjoy it and love seeing them live, especially with my mom. I listen every Saturday on NPR when they broadcast live from the met. A terrific movie is Diva from the 80s. It is about a young man obsessed with an opera singer who will not allow her voice to be recorded. He brings recording equipment illegally to a concert (sounds familiar?) and mayhem ensues. it is really a good thriller. If you rent it, get it subtitled. After seeing it in the theatres i rented the dubbed version, really, really bad acting. There was the most beautiful aria in there from an opera called Martha, I believe. What I love best about opera are the harmonies.

oooo true confessions?

My daughter and I hated Phantom of the Opera.

H.a.t.e.d.

:lilredani:

Me too!!!!

I saw it on Broadway on one of my rare "nights off" ie without children and DH and while I thought it was OK, I wasn't blown away by it.

I was in the mood to enjoy anything, being out on the town by myself in NY freaking City and seeing shows on Broadway. It was along-held dream of mine so I should have loved it yet I found myself thinking that I wished I had Given Spam another go....

Claytonic but of course, everyone views new posts. Right people? :cryingwlaughter::cryingwlaughter:

Always Couchie, always

I draw the line at people not liking Clay.

Batshit assholes.

You are indeed a woman of discernment Wanda.

But I agree that things affect us different ways at different times. I know I'm that way with books. I know I wouldn't always like the same books if I read them at the different times.

ITA jamar. Sometimes a movie will hit a bit too close to home about some worry in RL and then every time that movie is seen or mentioned it brings it all back up again. Or if a song is played constantly when I am going through a rough patch it reminds me and then I dislike that song.

Generally ( barring the above examples) I love musicals and romantic comedies. I love live performances and am planning to get back to NYC. Sometime, hopefully before age 90. At this stage it is looking like a retirement trip.

Totally OT : Does anyone want a guinea pig? Seems the darling little one month old I got for the kids a couple of months ago was up the duff! :o Total surprise for us all. Yesterday went out to the cage and there were the littluns. I think this makes me a granny? :o

Seriously....I could just pop one in a post bag.....anyone?..........

Guinea pigs bite people, so nuh uh for me.

As for movie/television commentary...yeah, I'm one of those people that if something simply doesn't make sense (and not some sort of fantasy genre) I have to comment. Like people getting shot in the top of the shoulder and still using that arm instead of bleeding out when the subclavian vein gets hit...and don't get me started on that damn ghosthunters show.

Also totally OT, I just found out that almost all of Dylan's new album "Together Through Life," to be released April 28 was co-written with Robert Hunter (see my siggie), who was one of the lyricists for the Grateful Dead (usually wrote with Jerry--not a member of the band). Both Dylan and Hunter are fine poets--can't wait to hear what they came up with together. The album is, according to Dylan, inspired musically by the Chess Blues artists (like Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf). None of which is in the following informative links, LOL. Dylan Records Surprise 'Modern Times' Follow-up and Snap Judgment: Bob Dylan's 'Together Through Life'.

guess no one wants to see Clay in Phantom of the Opera.

I'll watch Clay in anything. :D I have no set opinions about opera.

Of course, this is coming from the person who'd like him to do another "Classics" medley with "I Kissed A Girl" in it...
